  • Communication error, user "did not accept your invitation"

I think need some help. I have read many of the topics, however i have not been able to address my issue. Let me start by saying I am new to Macs (about 3 weeks) and not very technical. I have a Imac and also running time capsule as my wireless connection. As instructed i obtained an AIM account and attempted to do video chat, however when I try i get a communication error, user "did not accept your invitation". I have spent about an hour with apple tech services and have been able to successfully connect to the Apple test buddy. In fact my friend was also able to connect to the Apple test buddy. I have not tested a connection with anyone else.
I would greatly appreciate any help with this issue.

    Hi Thank you for responding,
The message says that there was a communication error - did not receive response from the other person. On the other side they received the same error. Below is the error log
Yes, Time Capsule sits between my modem and my computer. I also have a Voice over Internet phone.
The entire set up is as follows.
Internet modem (make; Ambit) to Voice over Internet Modem to Time Capsule (set as router - share a single IP address using DHCP & NAT)
as for setting up time capsule - i set it to "i don't have a wireless network and wanted to create one"
I have not attempted to reach anyone in table 2 - I will do so and let you know
my error log -- again thanks for your help

  • IChat Error: "Can't get video from the camera"

When I try to Screen Share with iChat on a local network, I receive the error "Can't get video from the camera" when I have an external camera plugged into the FW400 port on my Mac Mini. The Screen Sharing feature works great when the camera is not connected. Anyone know why this is and how to fix it?

Tell us about the Network you created please.
What make and model modem ?
Can it route (issue IPs) ?
    IS there a router ?
Make and model of that please ?
If there are two devices which is doing DHCP if any are ?
IS there any computer that is sharing it's Internet Connection with any other computer ?
I take it from the title and the post that you infer you can Video and Audio chat ?
The Cannot get Video from Camera normally gets and Error Log pop up.
This can be opened with the reveal triangle on the left. The Details shown will have a Error number. Do you know what this log says ? (normally Error 20 or 21)
Old logs are stored in Users/(your account)/Library/Logs/iChatConnectionErrors by date.
IF you post an Error Log stop at the line that Says "Binary Images for iChat" as we don't need the bits below that yet.
As the Screen share in iChat uses an Audio component then the Camera if it is also the Mic needs to be ON.
In your case this may mean that in the ichat Video Menu both Camera Enabled and Mic Enabled should both be ticked.
(I have never seen an iChat error code for not (specifically) being able to get the Mic input so the message might be the only one iChat can pop up)
It does seem very odd that it only effecting Screen Sharing.
I have a Firewire connected DV converter that has two Firewire ports itself so I can input the camera feed to two computers. When this is in place the System also sees it as a Network.
I have also heard of one person with a Firewire Stills camera and I think the Storage space was seen as an External Device and therefore appeared Networked which is why I asked the first set of questions.
iChat does not like being in Two networks (a modem that issues IP address and a router doing the same or Wireless to a neighbour and Ethernet to your Own Internet connection, the Mac being the hub in a Share Internet connection, Wireless and Ethernet to the same router and using Parallels when set to Share the Mac's IP are the most common)
The Screen Sharing option in iChat > Video Menu is ON ? (at both ends ?)
As iChat's Screen Sharing is related to the System Screen Sharing and therefore Apple Remote Desktop you may find that in any routing device you may have to open ports 5900 and 5988 if not using UPnP
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1629?viewlocale=en_US
You said Local Network. Do you mean this is using the Bonjour Buddy List ?

  • "An Internal iChat error occurred"

I can't seem to start up ichat at all and receive the following message when I click on the application:
"An Internal iChat error occurred. iChat couldn't connect to the iChat agent."
I have tried numerous suggestions as mentioned in a few threads:
    - Deleting Library Prefs
    - Rebooting modem and router
    - Repaired Disk Permissions
but still no luck. Can anyone advise me?

    Hi,
I think I would go for a reinstall
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1486891
Use the Hard Way and Possible Issues pacifist method and replace the the relevant .framework folders as well as iChat.
    NOTE.
You will need to download the COMBO version Update of the OS level you are at to Update those files afterwards.

  • IChat AV 4 Menu Bar Buddy List Ordering

On Leopard with iChat AV4, in the windowed Buddy List you can change the ordering under the View->Sort Buddies->(By Availability, By First Name, By Last Name, Manually). However, it appears that the menu bar Buddy List is always sorted by First Name. I don't understand why they don't use the same sort setting, or if it's intentional for that to be distinct, how does one change the sorting on the menu bar list?
    Message was edited by: mpw6

This list in the Menu bar can not be changed.
It would be nice if it sorted by Group as well as by Name.

In most cases, you can't use a Debit card anymore. So, either redeem an iTunes gift card or use a credit card.

  • IChat Error -8 Please Help!!!av

I keep getting this error whenever I try to do an audio chat with my boyfriend. We both have macs and I have been able to chat with other people, and he has been able to chat with other people, but every time we try to chat with each other we get this error message and it will say that he has not responded or that I have not responded. It seems like we have tried everything here. If anyone has anything that can help please please please share your knowledge!

There are all kinds of reasons you can get this error, but I can tell you what solved it on my end. I've been grappling for months with various iChat errors (the -8 error, video freezes, etc) and none of the solutions posted on this board have helped me. Finally, while troubleshooting with my ISP I disconnected my router and plugged my cable modem directly into my Mac. Everything worked fine. That isolated the problem to my Linksys Router (WRT54G Versions 2). I checked for the most current firmware on their website and discovered that my current firmware was ancient. Once I upgraded the firmware, everything worked like a charm.
    Good luck!

  • Declined invites still show on ipad and iphone

If I open and decline an invite on my macbook, it appropriately adds/deletes it from my calendar. However, when I then open my ipad and iphone calendar, ALL the declined invitations are still there. How do I remove them? I cannot simply delete them as I did not creat the original invite. Often things get revised and a new invite sent and then I have multiple versions showing and I have no idea the correct ones.
    Please help???

just checked everything through and this is deffinately the public beta of iCloud as it simlily doesnt come up in the  settings of ipad or iphone. However the current firmware i am using isnt an itunes download, as i have downgraded and all itunes synced apps onto both the iPad and iphone crash when i open them, is this because i have downloaded the firmware from a third party? i have treble checked that the firmware is NOT hacked and is just a host's official apple firmware, so i cannot understand why this problem is occuring?

  • User has declined invite? ichat video help

i have my mac account setup and have done everything i know to do, but when i send a video invite (and i know for a fact that the other person is accepting) it comes back saying "username has declined video invitation"
    how do i fix it?
    thank you kindly,
    //Drew

    Hi Drew,
So iChat can log in to the AIM servers and your Buddy list is populated.
Clicking on his Video icon or one of the other methods of starting a Video chats means you send the Visible invite but it then does not connect and gives this error message.
At this point we need to know what you know to have done as you have not told us.
Have you changed the System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and the drop down in there to read 1.5Mbps T1/Intranet/LAN ?
If you are still at Quicktime 6 this "Streaming tab was/is called Connection Speed.
Do you run your Mac using the Mac Firewall ?
If it is ON have you set the iChat ports ?
They do not come as preset.
In Panther you need to do it like the top pic
There is a table at the Bottom of the Page. You do not/can not list UDP and TCP separately and you do not need the Jabber ports as iChat 2 can not do Jabber connections.
After that we need to know if you have set up ypour router for iChat ?
Do you have a modem that routes ?
Do you have a separate router ?
Can you tell us makes and models and what you have done to set them up ?

  • IChat using a Google Talk account shows XMPPErrorDomain error 6 when displaying buddy on iChat Server

My brother uses iChat with a GMail account. I run my own iChat Server (OS X 10.6.7) with XMPP federation (cachain entry in s2s.xml commented out so that Google federation works when a self-signed certificate for iChat Server). This worked fine in the past, but I had to reset a lot of things after a migration. One of those is that I now use a different domain for my iChat Server and iChat accounts.
After some initial problems, we can chat, video, everything. But his Buddy line for me shows "XMPPErrorDomain error 6" instead of my status. Any suggestions on what to do?

    Hi,
iChat Server is a bit outside what I known.
Luckily I know a man that does.

If you use the "Refine this List" option you will see that the "old" forum of "Collaboration services" is still there.
That will allow you to hone down to the iChat Server stuff (and some other things).
If you post a new Question you can tag it with iChat and "Collaboration Services'

  • Declined Invitation.

I have read over this forum numerous times to try and figure this out, but still no luck with the problem. I am trying to video chat over iChat. My girlfriend uses AIM and a Dell laptop. I can connect to the Apple test buddies just fine but whenever I try to talk to my girlfriend it says she declines. I think it might be a problem on her end as I have tweaked everything on my end. Including the bandwidth and port.
I have a friend who goes to the same school who is an IT guy and I asked him for help today as well. Anything you guys can recommend?

Ok, so now I have the error report:

  • IChat Video chat with AIM Buddy - Possible fix?

This is my first post to the Apple Discussions group. I received my MacBook Pro, my first ever Apple computer, just two days ago, and came upon this group after discovering the problems establishing a video chat with someone using AIM. With the help of "Rjin WI" I was able to verify that I could indeed have video chat Mac-to-Mac. This morning I decided to try something I should have tried on day one-I fired up AIM 5.9 on my PC, and tried to chat with myself.
I disabled all firewalls involved: the Mac firewall, the Windows SP2 firewall, and the SPI firewall on my Linksys router. I chatted with myself between two screen name for a few moments before initialising the video chat from the Mac, but was quite shocked to see on the PC "Unable to complete the connection with your buddy. This may be due to the configuration of the firewall." On the Mac was "Failed to start Video Chat because: (I) did not respond."
I tried a few more times just to be sure, but the error message was persistent. I kept looking for some button to press or question to answer in the invitation, but there was nothing to be found. Except for the "video" button in the AIM chat I had previously overlooked. I initialised the video chat from AIM, and what do you know, I received the invitation on the Mac, accepted, and was connected just fine.
I reenabled all of the firewalls again. And once again, I was able to have a video chat with myself when I sent the invitation from the PC. Trying from the Mac instantly gave me the error on the PC, and after timing out, the same error on the Mac.
Does anyone else have anything they can add to the mystery of iChat?

    Jason-
great post. i'll try and make my situation short and sweet, as I don't have the energy to try and describe every little "error" that my computer runs into. To make it short; just got the brand new macbook (thinking 'now i can actually video chat, unlike the isight which never worked and solutions/helpful advice via appletechs seemed to be non-existent). Low and behold the camera works perfectly...2x. At the time I was using airport for wireless connection, but I have since been using the computer with a linksys. Because the computer worked with the airport and not with the linksys, I thought this was were the problem existed...then the camera worked with a different user (with the linksys) so I scratched that idea. Anyways I have been trying to video chat with another macbook and there is no success whatsoever. We both get the msg " did not respond) when the user accepts, the camera icon goes "shaded" but then goes back to its normal state. Both firewalls were disabled, and both of us are using linksys. I also run vonage in my place if that could somehow play into this scenario. I apologize for such a poor post, but my energy regarding this matter is limited since I am so tired of trying get this video chat working. (first a worthless isight, then a macbook which can't even function with another macbook. in addition, to put it lightly, i am very dissatisfied with applecare regarding this issue.)

  • IChat error -8 with certain buddies

Hello! I have had successful videochat connections at home with buddies in several locations. However, I have not been able to videochat with anyone at my university while I am at home (though these buddies can videochat with others outside the university) and, most recently, I discovered that I cannot connect to another buddy at his home. I have tried several different settings on my modem and router as suggested on these boards, but I have not been successful. Any further suggestions that can be given after I answer the questions below would be greatly appreciated!
    1) Have you done the Quicktime Streaming setting ?
    Yes.
    2) Are you running your Mac with the Firewall On ?
If so have you set up ports for iChat ? (The ports from Apple Doc 93208)
No, the firewall is turned off.
    3) Did you upgrade from Panther ?
Do any of these things effect you ? (list os known issues.)
If they did and you have done them please state so.
    No.
    4) How are you connected to the internet ?
    a) We need to know device make and Model ?
    b) We need how you have opened the ports for iChat ?
    * UPnP ?
    * Port Forwarding
    * Port Triggering
    * DMZ
    c) We need to know if you know if the device is in Bridge Mode ?
(sends your Public IP through to your computer or router).
    d) Do you have a router as well ?
    * Is it doing DHCP ?
    * Is it an Airport device ?
    * Have you opened the ports there ?
    * By which method ? (see above list)
I have a Siemens Speedstream 4200 DSL modem that is connected to a Linksys WRT54G router. My MacBook connects to the network wirelessly via Airport card. The modem also routes.
Yesterday, following the suggestions here http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html#_modemroutersettings, I set the modem to router to static addressing since the modem was acting as a DHCP server along with the router. I then made the appropriate changes to my router settings by setting the internet connection type to static IP. I left the router as a DHCP server and left UPnP enabled there.
Then, I began to change the settings to the modem. Originally, NAPT was enabled along with UPnP ("Enable full Internet Gateway Device (IGD) support" was checked) and no ports forwarded. I was still able to connect to a buddy that I was previously able to connect to, but not to my "problem" buddy.
Next, I disabled NAPT and NAT with UPnP enabled, and was not able to connect to the internet. So, I again enabled NAPT, added port forwarding with the appropriate iChat ports, leaving UPnP enabled. I still couldn't connect to my buddy. Then I tried the same, but with UPnP disabled. Still cannot connect.
So, the current setup for my modem is with DHCP disabled, NAPT enabled with iChat ports forwarded, and UPnP disabled. Unfortunately, none of my other buddies are available for testing, so I don't know if I can videochat at all at this point. Router settings are still as listed above.

From what I understand, this means the ports are blocked, right?

    MacBook 13"   Mac OS X (10.4.9)   2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

The Modem to Router is Static.
i.e. DHCP in the Modem is Off and the Router is set
to Static on the WAN side (Or the bit at the top of
    the Linksys Set Up page)
    The Subnet mask Agrees ?
The Gateway IP is the Modem's IP ?
Yes, all the numbers are correct.
You have tried the ports in the Modem to be UPnP with
    and without NAT and NAPT.
You have tried Port Forwarding to the IP the router
    has.
IS there an setting for SPI, QOS or DOS on this
    device?
    Can it be adjusted ?
It may be that only some Buddies can send data in
large enough/fast enough amounts to cause you a
    problem.
There are not any settings for these in the modem setup that I can find, but as you say, it is overcomplicated!
    So on to the Linksys.
As already said in the Set up page it is Static back
to the Modem. (with the proviso questions of Subnet
    Mask and Gateway IP).
    This is doing UPnP.
    The Port Forward
page on this device says to Unblock Anonymous
    Internet Pings.
It also shows in the Gaming and Applications it has
it's own QOS and it would be worth checking that this
is also Off (I don't think this one is adjustable.
I already unblocked anonymous requests and QOS has been off.
There is a chance that if the SpeedStream can only do
this with NAPT/NAT Enabled then the Certain Buddy
    problem may still pop up
    http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page15.html#_Cer
    tain_Buddy
In this case you may have to see if your Buddies are
using NAT as it maybe the type of NAT that is being
done (There are about 6 main ways and sometimes
devices can get a little fussy).
My problem buddy is, um, sharing an unsecured wireless connection, so I have no idea how the LAN is setup on his end.
At this stage it is a little odd to say why the ports
have moved if I have understood your set up
    correctly.
Yes, that's what I thought. I was hoping that someone else would see an obvious problem with my setup, but alas, that is not the case! Would there be any advantage to setting my modem to bridge mode (setup has a button: set to bridge mode), and if so, how would I configure the router from there?
    Thanks!

  • ICHAT ERROR - Not enough bandwidth.....

I have the latest MINIMAC with ISIGHT. I can use ICHAT perfect with one of my friends who has the same computer. So this means my computer is fine and my bandwidth is enough. Then i recently bought another MINIMAC for my father. We tried connecting in two diffrenent locations and it did not work. The camera works and we are able to invite eachother to a video chat but it keeps giving a message that there is not enough bandwidth. I am quite sure that we both have enough bandwidth. I tested my computer from my side and i have a download speed of about 1961 kbps and a upload speed of 1245 kbps. In Belgium i have used my computer in the same location as my father and i can connect to my other friend. I have had the same error message with another friend in Belgium.
Another problem that i am having is with ONE friend he can see me, invite me and we can videochat. From my side i never see him as available and so i can not invite him since he seems ofline. Viceversa it works.

Thanks Ralph. I will try to find out something more from Fastweb. The other friend of mine who i have video chatted with in Italy is using TIM-It the Italian
telecom provider service for internet. With him it works except that he can invite me and not vice versa. I also used a French provider in France (with a french provider when i was there with my other buddy in Italy (who also uses fastweb)and that worked fine. But Then my father tried to connect with me from France to me in Italy and that gave the bandwidth problem. So my conclusions is that the problem is sporadic. Strange. I got my ICHAT name when registering with Mac but then never renewed the service after the 1 month trial. Could that cause the unstability? Or can i change my ISP port 5060? I'll look around a bit more for answers? Thanks anyway.
