Hello, I was wondering if it was possible to change the sender font size while leaving their font type as it is.

Yes.
In iChat go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Messages
Here you can change your Font Choice, the Font Colour, the Background (Bubble) Colour for yourself and (Over-ride) those of the Incoming Messages.
In Choosing your Font you can change the size.
NOTE:
Your Buddy will only see your Font choice if they have the Font themselves.
It will tend to default to Helvetica if they do not have it.

Font preference problemexpands to show the font

Hi,
First time poster here. I stupidly (not sure how) altered the font size for my messages to some huge size (several inches tall!).
I cannot now change it back because I cannot access the button to reset the font size etc. for the message display. This is because the font preference window is not re-sizeble and window displaying the new huge font is so large that I cannot access the button. Is there a way to reset these preferences another way?

Out of curiosity, what prompted you to choose such a large font? And which font are you talking about changing: the Mailbox font, Message list font, or Message font?

Where are the font preferences in Safari 7.0.3?

I am trying to move to Mavericks after many months of resistance. There are many obstacles still to overcome, but now Safari is seeming strange and I realize it is using different fonts that I am use to How can I adjust the font preferences? Thank you.

IChat privacy preferences??

Hi. I've been using iChat for a couple of years on this computer. I haven't altered any settings (to my knowledge!).
Today I tried to use it but the person was listed as offline - but they were online and on their iChat I was showing up as offline.
I tried to send a text chat - the text chat window opened but when I went to send the text I got the message "Your privacy preferences are set so they prevent you from communicating with this person"
There was no connection problem with my internet as I was able to send emails and connect to web pages.
Really strange. Would appreciate any advice. I haven't changed internet providers. I upgraded my plan the other day but I don't know if this would have changed anything.

Have you checked your Block list ?
It is in iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts > AIM/Apple account > Security Settings
The Allow options can also effect things.
If this appears to be OK and you have managed to access the Preferences go to the Server Settings and change the port to 443 (Some modem and routers do not like the fact iChat uses port 5190 on TCP to login and UDP to get some Buddy List feedback and certain Text chats and File Sending) You have to be Off Line to do this.
If that does not work go to your Home Folder/Library/Preferences (Spotlight does not look in here so you have to click through the folders.
Delete com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist and restart iChat
Let us know how you get on.
A Note:
By default the Apple Discussions set your status to Subscribe to every thread you post in.
You get an Email for every new post that is made.
It is the same for the Original Poster.
But he will now be getting emails about a thread he has marked as Answered.
The Terms of Use do allow for "Me too" posts but also strongly suggest starting your own tread.
As even "Me too" posts can actually be different it also means I can end up having about five conversations in some threads (I struggle after this number) so it is worth checking if a thread Is Finished before posting.

IChat fonts driving me CRAZY!!!

It's probably not such a huge deal but i just can't understand why it's happening.
When I try to change the font in iChat it won't change! I select a different font in the list, the window shows the font, the text in the window changes to the font selected, and then as soon as I start typing another line it reverts back to a font that isn't even listed. So far I've:
- made sure the desired font is in the HD>Library>Fonts
- deleted all iChat preferences
- again reinstalled the desired font.
Nothing works, and what's even weirder is that the desired font works perfectly for incoming text.

This is not a problem I have had. I do not even have this Font to try ad replicate the problem.
Anyone else have this Font or this problem ?
You could try deleting the Font Book .plist and see if that is the problem.

IChat font problems

Can anyone provide a way to get iChat v3.1.7 to respect font selections made within the app?
Here's what I have tried:
1) Changed the font in iChat->Preferences->Messages. The window displays the font I want to be using correctly (implying it is using my selection.)
2) Changed the font within the chat window itself.
3) If I change the font in the chat window itself, all existing messages I have typed show up in the font I want, but all new ones revert back to Helvetica.
Messages I type show up in the font I want as I type them, but when I press Return to enter the message, it displays in Helvetica 12.
I've also tried deleting all the plist files, editing the plist file directly (that seems to get me closer).
Please help!

Yes the spot in the Preferences > Messages is the spot to change it permanently.
You can change individual bit of Text chats from the Show Fonts item. (and Show Colours)
It is kept in com.apple.ichat.plist so deleting this .plist will normally sort any problems out.
Having said this a Mac can be funny if you do not have certain Fonts active in the Font Book.
iChat need Helvetica. It has problems though if you have Helvetica Fractions as an Active Font.
Lucida Grande is another that is needed.

Where are font preferences kept?

I have this weird situation with the font window, the one you bring up in TextEdit when you select "Show fonts". The window that comes up as many invisible entries in my Favorites window. That is, about 5 lines show fonts I have saved as to size and color, etc. However below that are about 10 lines of nothing visible, yet if I have text selected and and click on those empty lines then it formats the text. Obviously there is something wrong since the font name and formatting does not show.
I have tried to find out to reset this by looking for the preferences files that holds my settings but cannot find it.
Does anybody know where it is?

The preference file that contains your font Favorites, as displayed in the Font palette (the "font window" you cited), is the file
com.apple.Favorites.collection
in your Home > Library > FontCollections folder. This folder also contains any font collections or libraries you've defined using Font Book.

IChat font sizes show up too large on other computers

Has anyone else seen an issue with iChat 4's fonts showing up considerably larger on other people's (usually Windows-based) computers? I'm using the default Helvetica 12 and it shows up at least 2px larger on other's screens.
If I make the font closer to 10, it shows up fine on other's screens. Then of course, it seems to small on my end.
Any ideas?

Most likely the differences between a Macs 72pixels per inch and the PC settings default is 96 pixels
No one has complained to me about this.
It may of course be that they are defaulting to a different font because they don't have the one you are sending.

IChat MCX Preferences

Hi,
Can anyone tell me how to auto configure iChat account settings with MCX? I have the managed client core services up in WGM\Preferences\Details which lists iChat-10.6. This allows account settings to be set in the always key. All the clients are 10.6 BTW.
This al works fine and is pushed out to the client, this shows up on the client in the System Profiler perfectly. Only problem is that ichat client ignores it?
If anyone can be of any help it would be very much appreciated as this is driving me round the bend!!!!!
I may be missing something simple as I'm not known for my brains!!

An Update.
I have tried setting the iChat accounts in the often and once MCX. Same problem!
So i re-imaged the server and client back to a fresh install (good job this is a test environment)!
Tried again and it dolled out the account settings to iChat perfectly, apart from having to manually enable the account on the client in iChat preferences.
Then on the client i deleted the account and logged out and back in. No account settings!! No matter what i did it would not reload the settings defined in the MCX. Further to this the MCX was then broken for all new accounts, it would not roll them out at all? This behaviour was replicated on each client i tried it on!!
Now I'm really stumped?

User font preferences don't hold

I see that back in September, another Brooklynite posted about this problem that I have always had for iChat (right now v.429, but has always been a problem for me). http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1024102&#1024102
Basically, my default user settings have the font set to Helvetica 12pt FRACTIONS of all things! So my messages, incoming and outgoing, are complete gobblety-gook. I have managed to set the incoming messages to a different font, which seems to hold (thank god), but the outgoing won't change. MADDENING! Especially when saving transcripts for business is important. Any ideas?

The solution is to disable Helvetica Fractions from the whole system with Font Book.
Helvetica fractions has been a problem for some Apple Applications for a while.
If the Font is not acitve on the MAc then iChat will not be ale to use it for Incoming or Outgoing Text messages.

Mail Font Preferences

When I receive mail with various font colors, I want to forward it to others, but Mail will not allow me to do this. It takes the text and puts it in default black.
I have tried "Make Rich Text" to no avail, and have tried Preferences in Mail.
Would Eudora or MS Entourage be a better choice for mail?

Turn off Safari font preferences

How do I turn off the Safari font size preferences to allow pages to choose their own fonts and font sizes? Like I can in the Firefox preferences.

I am not the original poster, but I am having similar problems with Safari, especially in displaying Greek Fonts.
I have all the necessary Greek fonts installed on my computer (and then some!). Pages with Greek text encoded in their style sheets display fine in Firefox, but Safari only displays the English letters instead of the Greek fonts.
Is there no way to allow pages to select their own fonts in Safari like there is in Firefox?

The Greek letters display fine for me in Firefox with the above link, but, in Safari, nothing but English characters.

Hi,
Some of the more regular Visitors to this Forum may have noticed that above the Topic List is a "Recent Tips" area that has the most recently Updated Users Tips.
There more, (you may wonder where FAQ 1 is for example).
One way to find them is to use the Search feature just above your Profile and My Post an Setting Links in the box on the right.
Many of the Former FAQS and Users tips have had the Search tag kichat added to them.
Using this and changing the date option to All How to Find Users Tips (FAQs) on iChat">brings up 16 Links in this Example Search
One of the Level 4 Posters, Red Dwarf, once spent some time going through the whole of the Users Tips Library and posting them in to two formats.
This link is to the iChat section within his 'by Forum/application' listing.
There is another 'By Author' Version
The Whole Users Tips Library is here. IT has a header item that tells you who can post/Suggest new Contributions with a link to that additional forum.

IChat issue: no idle/privacy preferences

Did Apple do away with privacy/idle preferences? I am running iChat 4.0.8, and when I go away but stay at the computer, or come back after screen saver initiates, I get a barrage of IMs, which leads me to believe my friends who are running AIM can see when I am idle or around.
I remember iChat used to be able to control privacy/idle preferences, but I can't find the option or help topic anywhere in the program or online. I can't be the only one experiencing this issue...

Welcome to the  Discussions
The issue I spoke of that Other Buddies would see you as On-line when you had an Away Message up has been resolved at the AIM Servers some weeks ago.
There is a Setting in the General Section of iChat's Preferences that can be set to NOT show you are Idle. (your Buddies never see the Amber blob next to your Name).
Also in the General Section if you use the Menu Bar Option you can then Set "When I Quit iChat, Set my Status to Off Line"
This stops iChat firing up when it is closed down but you are on the computer when Off Line Messages get sent (You appear to your Buddies as if On line with the last Status you set).
Using the top right of this page http://download.aim.com/client/70 you can login to AIM with an AIM or Apple ID and then go to your account page and set that you do Not get Off Line Messages (I must admit to having an Issue with this in Snow Leopard despite setting it and the General Section Off Line on Quit item).
There has never been an option to set a Non response/non acceptance of IMs whilst your computer is Idle.

Setting font for mail preferences

anybody have this problem?? when i set lucida sans italic as my email font preference it won't italicize it. it will italicize in all areas of preference except when it comes to using it as a default font. i called support and they were stumped and suggested that i post here. help!!! :-):-)

yes, i want to see the message in that font and have the person on the other end view in that font also. you can change the message font in mail preferences. you select the font under message font and it will create all new mail messages in that font. what i find is that any font that will italicize won't do so when you create a new message. i have it set for comic sans right now and that works fine. go into mail preferences, choose message font, select lucida sans from the font list, then on the right select italics and then close and create a new message. the new message should have lucida sans italics as the message font. mine won't do that. you can select other fonts and it will work, but the italics part doesn't take........
