Ichat Help, Can't view buddies
I've mad my mac for just under a year now, and I've always used ichat. Not more then 3 days ago, whenever i logged into ichat on my Aim screen name, my buddy list simply appeared blank. Not even any of the groups like "offline" or "family" appeared, it is just blank. I'd really appreciate some help... thank you!

Can you access the Preferences > the iChat Menu ?

If you can access the Preferences start with deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist
This is found in your Home Folder/Library/Preferences (You will have to go there manually).
Relaunch iChat

IChat AIM - Can add new buddies, but won't show up as online
I've tried adding 4 or 5 buddies, some of whom are ichat users, some are not. I've had them IM me, i've deleted there name and re-added it, i changed their address from home to other to work in the address book. I checked the security. I need help.

Welcome to the Apple Discussions
There can be several reasons for this.
1) You added the screen name as a .mac one when they were and AIM one
2) The reverse of 1)
3) you spelt the name wrong.
4) they are blocking you.
5) They have not added you to their Buddy list and are set to Allow Buddies only
6) Somehow you are Blocking them.
7) The AIM servers are out of synch and not accepting the names properly. (if they do show up at restart this is the problem)
8) you have not got port 5190 open on the UDP protocol.
This lat one will also prevent you from Group chatting and sending files/pics

HELP- can't view contact info in address book
i've got the address book in 'book' view (left contacts - right contact detail)... i click on a contact and the details do not show up to right- it's 'stuck' on my 1st contact detail.
the only way to view contact detail is by double clicking contact on left side list and a new window pops up with info... AND, i can't search for a contact- HELP!

Then go to Preferences/com.apple.addressbook.plist And delete that file, now relaunch AB. -
Help - can't view clips in monitor
I'm running iMovie4 and suddenly can't see any of my clips in the monitor. Just get a black screen. consequently can't edit or play them at all. What's happened?

Most common origin to this is:
• Running low on free space on the Start-up hard disk
less 5Gb - nothing should work OK
5 - 10Gb might work slow and instable
25Gb free space - my goal after importing material to my movie
else
There are several different origins to this. I would.
• delete the iMovie pref file
• run: Repair permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
• start from another hard disk or CD/DVD then
run: Repair hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool)
• start a new account and log into this and re-try
• remove third party plug-ins if any new is added
• remove resently added new fonts.
Try one at a time and see if it works.
Q:
• How much free space is there on Your int hard disk
• Is there any ext devices connected
• Mac OS X.4.?, iMovie v. 6.0.3 ? and QuickTime version ?
• Did You put in any third party plug-ins to iMovie or into QT ?
• is you Mac as "factory delivered"?
• or did you install a new iLife version?
• or did you de-install any files/apps, e.g. using "Multilingual" etc. pp

• I finally copied the iMovie folder in the other user's library to my library
and I dont know why, but it fixed it! (skcomp123)
1. Sequre that there are at least 20Gb free space on the internal hard disk.
2. Try not using any external hard disk
3. Versions I would use: Mac OS X.4.? + iMovie 5.0.2 + QT 7.0.4 (I think)
QT v 7.1.6 I guess can give problems - MY personal opinion
4. Delete iMovie pref file
iMovie
-->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie.plist
and
-->/Users/YourName**/Library/Preferences/com.apple.iMovie3.plist
5. Run: Repair permissions (Apple Disk Util tool)
6. Start from another hard disk or CD/DVD then run: Repair hard disk (Apple Disk Util tool)

IChat: Can't view "Available" Buddies or their messages
I can't view "Available" Buddies on my AIM Buddy List. I have also messaged Buddies that I know are online, and even though they can view my messages, I cannot see their messages.

So when you message people you have Chat window on the Desktop that you can see ?
Or does it appear to zoom out of sight ?
Does the Window Menu list a open Chat (Should be at the bottom) ?
In the View Menu of iChat are you choosing to "Show Buddy Pics" ?
Is the Off Line Buddies option Ticked ?
I am trying to work out if ot is a windowing issue (Chat placed on a "Second Display" that is no longer attached) or some other issue.

After years of owning all things Mac, I am finally trying to use iChat, and can't get it to work. I am using gmail, and I see my buddy (no camera icon next to her name), but all I can do is send a message--the video and audio chat icons are gray, as is inviting to a video chat under Buddies. My buddy has the same problem as I. We are able to do video chat through gmail, but I had hoped to use iChat. I am using OS 10.6.8, iChat v. 5.0.3. What am I missing?

iChat will Video chat to another iChat in a Jabber Buddy List (Google run a Jabber server for GoogleTalk)
However it will not Video to the Web Page login to iGoogle or the Web Mail Page login. (where people can Google Chat as it were in a Web Browser).
Nor does it video to the Google Talk Stand alone app for PCs or any other Jabber apps on any platform.
iChat uses a connection Process called SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) which is also used by other VoIP devices.
Jabber/XMPP invited the Jingle Protocol for Jabber Applications.
Google have included this in their Standalone app and the Plug-in for Web Browsers on both PCs and Mac (you can get this as a Standalone Plug-in or as part of Chrome)
More on this here This article has been changed several time in the recent months. It now claims a greater involvement by Google in writing the Jingle Library (Although now Google's version does not work with the others)
This tends to mean that using the web Login to Google to Chat also cannot video chat to other Jabber apps that are using Jingle.
If your Buddy is using iChat then check the Video Menu has two items to Enable Camera/Video chat and Microphone/Audio chats are ticked.
In the View Menu the Show Status Items should be ticked (Selecting them toggles the tick and the function On or Off)
It could be Internet speed but at this stage I would doubt this at this stage.

I can not view ANY videos on Vimeo, I have 'reset' the Ipad, original IOS 5, cleared the history and cookies, I haves changed the DNs number to 8.8.8.8, I have worked on this for 3 days now, HELP!!!!
Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps BEFORE doing the reset.

a number of site say done and we see a blank page. on-line calculus class, last week could view more than 1 video at a time now only 1 can be viewed. this course need to be completed by may 3. career builders some of the drop downs aren't working. need to find a job. these are serious errors that we did not experience before. we haven't updated to 4.0. now i see the one's who have are having these problems. daughter can't gt to e-mail. wish i could talk to someone. i'm going to try the live session at 2 but i'm not a techy. can take care of most problems, but this seems beyond me. sIf you are wondering why you are not getting any responses, it is because you have vented a complaint without any details that make any sense or give anyone something to work on.
If you want help, I suggest actually detailing what has happened, with versions of software etc. Anything that would let us assist.
As a start I am guessing that you have not really got the hang of "How it all works". Firstly download the Pages09_UserGuide.pdf from under the Help menu. Read that and view the Video Tutorials in the same place. A good addition would be the iWork 09 Missing manual book and something to help you learn how to use your Mac.

Since i upgraded my iphone 4s to iOS 6.0, i can no longer watch or view my Movies or Video's in my Music Playlist. I can still view them in my Videos which is not in orderly manner or arragement like i wanted unlike in the Playlist. There is some sort of restrictions i guess. I already checked the Allow All Movies but still the videos does'nt appear. What should I do?

Thank you very much.Similar problem here. My Ical refuses to edit or delete events. Viewing is possible, though sometimes the whole screen turns grey. Adding new events from mail is still possible. The task-pane completely disappeared. My local apple technic-centre messed about with disk utility for a bit and than told me to reinstall leopard. I could of course do that, but it seems to me that reinstalling Leopard just to fix iCal events is a bit invasive.
I tried also tried removing everything, installing a new copy of iCal from the leopard-cd, software updates, all to no avail.
At the moment I'm open to all suggestions that do not include a complete leopard reinstall. -

I have an old file with an .A4P video from 1999. I don't own any Adobe products (and don't really want to buy any). I just want to be able to convert the file to something that I can actually view. Any help?
I was a kid when I made a documentary for a school project. I've been trying to figure out how to retrieve the file. 4 years ago, I was able to get the files off the Iomega Zip drive (finally), but I now see the file is saved as a .A4P. There is also a file saved as a .PKG as well, but I don't know how to open this with my Windows 8 COmputer..a4p is an Authorware v.4 (Windows) project.
Interesting you have it as a .pkg...usually that's a published-on-a- Mac extension, if I recall.
At any rate, can you put the file up on a Box, Dropbox, FTP, etc...and send me a URL?
I should be able to published it so you can view the project (it would be an .exe).
It can't be converted to anything though - not without manual effort. -
Since I have Yosemite on my iMac I can't view PDF files in Safari anymore. It keeps telling me to upgrade my Adobe Reader, but it is the latest version. Please help? I don't have this problem on my Macbook that does not have Yosemite installed.
Back up all data before making any changes. Please take each of the following steps until the problem is resolved.
Step 1
If Adobe Reader or Acrobat is installed, and the problem is just that you can't print or save PDF's displayed in Safari, you may be able to do so by moving the cursor to the the bottom edge of the page, somewhere near the middle. A black toolbar should appear under the cursor. Click the printer or disk icon.
Step 2
There should be a setting in its preferences of the Adobe application such as Display PDF in Browser. I don't use those applications myself, so I can't be more precise. Deselect that setting, if it's selected.
Step 3
If you get a message such as ""Adobe Reader blocked for this website," then from the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
and check the box marked
Allow Plug-ins
Then click
Manage Website Settings...
and make any required changes to the security settings for the Adobe PDF plugin.
Step 4
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it, the copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
/Library/Internet Plug-ins
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder
from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-G. Paste into the text box that opens by pressing command-V, then press return.
From the folder that opens, move to the Trash any items that have "Adobe" or “PDF” in the name. You may be prompted for your login password. Then quit and relaunch Safari.
Step 5
The "Silverlight" web plugin distributed by Microsoft can interfere with PDF display in Safari, so you may need to remove it, if it's present. The same goes for a plugin called "iGetter," and perhaps others—I don't have a complete list. Don't remove Silverlight if you use the "Netflix" video-streaming service.
Step 6
Do as in Step 4 with this line:
~/Library/Internet Plug-ins
If you don’t like the results of this procedure, restore the items from the backup you made before you started. Relaunch Safari. -
I have CS6 and I just got a new Leica D-LUX and can not view my RAW (.RWL) images in Bridge what do I do? I already tried updating Bridge from the Help menu.
Did you use the Migration Assistant to help set up the new iMac using some of the files in the older PC? Some likely won't mean much, unless you have applications that can use or convert them. There's also a way to use the software Time Machine to import data files from an external or another computer, so you may have used that, too.
Hopefully someone with experience in a similar issue will reply...

I can't view old iphoto libraries. It wants me to use a new version of iphoto but from all the commits here, no one likes it. Help! how do i get to my old libraries???
With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution. We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see when iPhoto opens?
what fixes have you tried?
where is you library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
