Ichat help, i want to keep chat window open

hi all:
this is what i'd like to do. Is it possible?
with ichat, if someone sends me a message, i would like the message to pop up on the upper left of the screen, for example. as things stand now, the ichat icon pops up and i need to click on the icon to bring the window up.
If i am chatting there is no problem of course, but often i am multitasking and it is a pain to keep clicking on the icon
I had a powerbook and ibook which i thought automatically did this.
I hope my question is clear.

When Restore/Move/Size are clicked, the pointer just goes to the upper left corner of the screen with all combinations of clicking/dragging having no success. What causes this, and what can be done to move it back?

If a window disappear then using the system menu can make it reappear or make it possible to move that window in view. I don't know what causes it to make the window disappear in your case if it does work correctly if you start Firefox.
You can check the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page if you want to open all links in tabs in the current window.

Using any application, I want to have 2 windows open at the same time - 1 excel sheet & 1 Word document, or 2 diff pages from Blackboard, or email & Blackboard. How do I do this. Multiple tabs show, but only one will display

Are you saying that you can't open a new window using {Ctrl + N} or with File > New Window?
If so, something added to Firefox is blocking the opening of new windows, and you need to do a little troubleshooting to discover what is causing that fault.
Try the Firefox SafeMode. <br />

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. <br />

Todays update! After todays update I can no longer send Safari or Spotify to the task bar without it cutting out (dropping audio in and out). Streams normally if I keep the window open on my desktop. This needs to be fixed immediately.

if you hold down a Command key and press the Tab key, it will show a set of icons representing your currently opened programs. Press Tab until you arrive at the program you’d like to switch to, and then release the Command key.

Upgraded from 3.6 to 7 - changed nothing else - now takes 50-60 seconds to for the browser to start - works OK after that as long as I keep a window open. I then diabled all plug ins and extenstions - still 60 seconds to load browser.

Using Firefox to access facebook chat Button or online friiend chat button generates a Black screen with CANNOT LOAD IMAGES and no chat window opens.

Since the last upgrade, FF no longer runs on my laptop! I get the crash report box but it never restarts upon pressing that option. I can't try the safe mode or the other self-help options because no FF browser window opens.

FF worked fine before I accepted the latest update just a few days ago. My friend who lives far away said that she also has problems since the upgrade. When I click on the thumbnail to open FF no window opens, all I see is the crash report. Without the window I can't try the self-helps or give a crash ID (from what I understand from reading the options). None of the options in the crash report restore the browser. When I click on one, the box just pops right back up.
Other than general slowness of my system and some possible hacking which got someone into my paypal account this week, I've had no other computer issues. (I've changed my email address with PP & changed my email passwords in case someone is accessing my machine through my email...I'm not very computer literate...I don't believe this can happen, yet no other options were presented).
Because my friend also experienced this crash issue I think this is totally related to the upgrade & what ever it did to my computer such that FF no longer loads.
Please give me steps to fix this issue without FF running--all the self-help techniques seem to assume that I can run FF, get a browser window, utilize the links therein. I can't get a window open at all!

New firefoxis great. i keep many windows open. in ur earlier ver. I used to close it, it would ask for save and shut down as one of the three option,but in this new version it close all my window, how do i save my window tab?

Just purchased a new Macbook Pro and when I open an application, any other open application minimizes to the dock. On my previous Mac, whenever I opened an application, all applications would remain open in the same window so I could click back and forth. Now if I want to go back to another open application, I have to select it in the dock.
If I option + select an application, then all will remain open in the same window. Where is the setting that needs to be changed so that whenever I click on a new application, all other applications that are open, remain open in the same window and are not minimized to the dock?

Can I Have Mini Video Chat Window Open While Full ...

When I'm Skyping someone and browsing at the same time I can see the mini video fine but is it possible to browse on Safari or use other programs on full screen and still see the mini video chat? It would help a lot because I'm always having a series of programs on and it means less movement of tabs, which is a huge annoyance.

This question must have gotten buried. Nevertheless, I determined the issue was with IE8, not Captivate. I did the following:
Open IE8.
Right-click a link and open the page in a new window.
Close the original window, leaving the new one open.
Grab the edges of the new window with your mouse and maximize it that way. Do not use the Maximize button.
Close the new window.
Repeat 1-2, and the new window should open full size.

[SOLVED] keeping terminal window open for scrot keyboard shortcut

Hey,
Im trying to bind a keyboard shortcut to scrot with the -s command (for selecting window). Normal scrot command works fine straight away, but with the -s command a terminal window needs to be open that waits for the selection. i have created a file called lscrot with the following code:

/usr/bin/terminal --working-directory=$HOME/dump/ --geometry 0x0-0-0 -e "/usr/bin/scrot -s"
i have put the file in /usr/bin folder with 755 permissions.
if i right click the file and choose "execute", the new terminal window will stay open and i can select an area to take a screenshot of, but when i bind it to a shortcut key (using xfce) the new terminal window will close immediately rendering the shortcut useless.
how does one fix this?

hmmm, ok. binding keys to /usr/bin/scrot works fine, but /usr/bin/scrot -s does not. dont really know where to begin searching for a fix...
EDIT: im assuming there is something elementary i am missing. after further testing, launching for example scrot ~/dump/test.png from console works fine, but not when i bind it to a keyboard shortcut. however, scrot test.png works to bind. does anyone know anything more about XFCe and binding keyboard shortcuts?
EDIT2: ok so im honing in a little bit, i realised that the first times i use the keyboard shortcut it works. forcing the terminal window to stay open after command has been executed i see following error:
giblib error: couldn't grab keyboard:Resource temporarily unavailable
Searching the net i found old bug that was closed without (seemingly) being solved.

EDIT3: ok so found a solution, "sleep". Adding sleep 0.1 to the top of the screenshot script seemed to help. seems you need to give sometime to release the keyboard for scrot to use. would still be great if anyone knew how to get it to work by using a direct command in the keyboard shortcut bindings. ie binding in straight to "scrot -s". using Alt+F2 then typing in scrot -s works fine, so i really dont see why i cant bind a keyboard command straight to that.
NOTE: how do i see xsession errors? I find no .xsession-errors file in my home directory. been searching for months.

Keep child window open while Parent window got focus

In my applet i invoke the window using the JPanel.it's my parents window.
to do some other task i m opening the other window called it "Child window".
my problem is that when i m click on the parent window.the child window is invisible. i want my child window is still open while parent window is activated.
just like when we open find dialog in eclipse editor,it show that find dialog untill we manually close it.
can any one give me the solution on how to visible the child window while parents window is activated.
child window is open through JDialog.

You can click and drag on a tab to "tear" it out into a new window. Or you can open a new window by pressing Control+N, or by hovering over "New Tab" in the Firefox menu and then choosing "New Window" from the sub-menu that appears.
