Ichat Help Needed: Connection Problem

I purchased a new imac about 2 months ago. I have been having problems with my ichat ever since the beginning. When ever I open my ichat to login it says: Lost connection with AIM, the connection to the host was unexpectedly lost, Almost immediately upon login. I have never infact been able to access ichat because I can never login. My internet connection is fine, I have been using the internet with no problems what so ever. I have been using AIM express in the time being and it has worked fine. I have tried updating my software and creating a new AIM screen name but it hasent helped. I would greatly appreciate if someone could tell me how to solve this problem.
Thank You.
iMac Mac OS X (10.4.10)

hi Olivier,
In that case do two things
1) Download and Instll the Combo version of the Update
See this list http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/
2) reboot the Modem and or router.

  • IChat help needed (I know, wrong forum)...

    ...but I didn't get much response when I posted to the designated iChat forum. You all are so knowledgeable here, just thought I'd try. Forgive me for breaking etiquette.
    I'm running ichat 4.0.7 on my iMac with Leopard 10.5.6. Last night my brother and I were able to successfully text, audio, and video chat. He was using ichat 3.1.9 on his mac book pro laptop running Tiger 10.4.11.
    Today, we were unable to audio or video chat. He was using his iMac at work running ichat 4.0.7 and Leopard 10.5.6. Every time we tried to video/audio chat, we got a message saying that "there was a communication error during your chat" and that I "did not receive a response from XXXXX (my brother)". He, of course, was indeed responding and accepting my invitations to video/audio chat. I got this exact same message regardless of who initiated the invitation (i.e., the message said that my brother was not responding whether he invited me or whether I invited him).
    We had a few of these same messages yesterday, but after a few tries we were able to connect without problem. But not today, no matter how many times we tried. Also, he originally tried with his iMac at work today but then eventually pulled out his laptop (the same one he used yesterday) and neither computer was successful for him.
    Finally, I had the same messages last night with another friend who I was trying to audio and video chat with.......we were never successful. Through all of this, however, the text chat feature has worked just fine. The only thing Ic an think of involves internet connection speed, although that seems to be fairly consistent.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

    allthings --
    I think Ralph was trying to give you a good response.
    If you didn't understand something he said, please don't
    hesitate to go back in there and ask.
    one thing I always do when having connection problems with
    iChat -- Both parties quit everything and restart your Macs.
    If it still isn't working, it could be a problem with one of you ISP's.

    This example can be run without specifying a TNSNAME connection string, as the oci8 jdbc driver will default to the localhost. OR - Specifying the only the TNSNAME is required, i.e. edit %ORACLE_HOME%\network\ADMIN\TNSNAMES.ORA file and locate the XXXXX.WORLD entry in the file. This is the TNSNAME entry referred to.
    Try re-running this as follows (with no TNSNAME entry at all):
    %ORACLE_HOME%\jdbc\demo\samples\oci8\basic-samples> java JdbcCheckup

  • Help needed connecting 2 routers

    Hello, I've been scratching around looking for a solution to my problem for a couple of weeks now.
    I have 2 routers (connected as per the pic below) - I have configured it so that I can collect access logs (this is one of the few routers I've found than can log internet URLs) for anyone who connects via wifi on the BEF router, however I can only get an internet connection if I use a LAN port (as per the red line). I've read that in order to log activity I need to connect via the internet port (yellow dotted line), but I can't get it to work and it's frustrating the heck out of me now
    Does anyone have any solutions for this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you for your help, re-instating the DHCP did the trick (after a power cycle).
    Just in case anyone else needs to do this, here is my final config;
    WAG160N is set to 192.168.1.1 with DHCP enabled.
    BEFW11S4 is set to 192.168.2.1 with DHCP enabled and auto select IP address.
    Thanks for all the suggestions everyone - just need a Wireless N ADSL router (to replace the two I've got hooked up) that can log all internet traffic now

  • Urgent Help needed : Connecting Access 2000 with forms 6i

    Dear friends,
    I am really struggling to solve this connection issue. I am working with forms 6i, oracle 8i, in Windows XP pro environment. Developing programs using oracle 8i tables is ok, but there are tables in Access 2000, which I have to add the program that I am developing. The things I have done are
    - I have already tables in MS Access databse.
    - I Installed ODBC for microsoft and for Oracle as well(which . I added the MS Access Database there and I can perfom SQL from Oracle ODBC.
    - I also installed OCA for developer from the CD.
    From this point I followed the instructions in Developer Help menu and I was not able to connect and still trying, I will appreciate if anyone provide me sometips. Thanks in advance
    Best Regards

    Hi,
    I know the bad solution. But anyway, I'll tell you in any kind of help. I also had an AccessControlException when I started a RMI client program using JFileChooser. I rewrote policy files again and agin, but in vain. The last and ultimate method I did was remove the RMISecurityManager. This is obviously dangerous in the Internet, but if you use your application in the intranet or in some kind of safe environment. There would be no problem.
    Hope this could be any kind of your help.

    By "exponential number, do you mean one in scientific notation (eg. -1.55743e21) or what?
    What do your files look like?
    What problem are you encountering? Is an exception being thrown? If so, give us the exact message (copy/paste). Is the results simply not what was expected? If so, give us the input, the expected results and the actual results for us to compare and consider.

  • Help needed connecting PC to AirportExpress

    I have a desktop connected wirelessly to my router which I was hoping to tap into to pipe music into my living room to play off of some speakers via airport express. However...
    I plugged in the AirPort Express, and it just keeps blinking yellow. I ran the install and opened up the Setup Assistant and it tells me that "An error occured trying to use the wireless networking system". I'm am using that very same wireless system to write and submit this post...so I know it works. But how can I get the two to communicate the way they need to?
    I should also mention that no base stations show up in either the Setup Assistant or the Admin Utility.

    Welcome to the discussions
    Check a couple of things.

    I am having trouble connecting in a video conference. I get to starting connection then it just hangs, or it will say that I did not respond. I have a netgear router which I know causes problems but i opened up every possible port that iChat uses. I am using a webcam supported by ichat, my video comes up fine

    Hi,
    This page is for how to Access and to view only.
    It shows UPnP.
    Make sure it is enabled and the setting saved.
    Repeat. (Enable it again and save) as setting it twice on some firmware seems to make a difference.
    This will allow the ports to be open when the Application wants them.
    Make sure there si nothing set in the Port Forwarding section.

  • Help Needed: Serialization Problem

    I've got a problem with serialization, which is better illustrated with an example (slightly modified version of example in Tech Tips, February 29, 2000, Serialization in the Real World. The problem is that comparing serialized static final fields doesn't return correct result. Any help on how to fix this problem would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. Here is the code:
    ====================
    import java.io.*;
    class Gender implements Serializable {
    String val;
    private Gender(String v) {
    val = v;
    public static final Gender male = new Gender("male");
    public static final Gender female = new Gender("female");
    public String toString() {
    return val;

    public String firstName;
    public String lastName;

    String password,
    Gender gender) {
    this.firstName = firstName;
    this.lastName = lastName;
    this.password = password;
    this.gender = gender;
    public boolean isMale() {
    return gender == Gender.male;
    public boolean isFemale() {
    return gender == Gender.female;
    public String toString() {
    return new String(firstName + " " + lastName);
    public static void main(String [] args) {
    Person p = new Person("Fred", "Wesley", "cantguessthis", Gender.male);
    //-NOTE: there ia no problem with this check
    if (p.isMale()) {
    System.out.println("a male: " + p);
    } else if (p.isFemale()) {
    System.out.println("a female: " + p);
    } else System.out.println("strange");
    class WritePerson {

    ObjectOutputStream oos = null;
    try {

    new FileOutputStream(
    "Person.ser"));
    oos.writeObject(p);
    catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    finally {
    if (oos != null) {
    try {oos.flush();}
    catch (IOException ioe) {}
    try {oos.close();}
    catch (IOException ioe) {}
    class ReadPerson {
    public static void main(String [] args) {
    ObjectInputStream ois = null;
    try {
    ois = new ObjectInputStream(
    new FileInputStream(
    "Person.ser"));
    Person p = (Person)ois.readObject();
    //-NOTE: this is the problem: the check returns false
    if (p.isMale()) {
    System.out.println("a male: " + p);
    } else if (p.isFemale()) {
    System.out.println("a female " + p);
    } else System.out.println("strange");
    catch (Exception e) {
    e.printStackTrace();
    finally {
    if (ois != null) {
    try {ois.close();}
    catch (IOException ioe) {}
    }

    The Gender class implements a type-safe enumeration, but its implementation needs to be improved to ensure that re-creating a Gender object via deserialization doesn't create new objects but uses the existing objects. See this article for details on how that's done:

  • Help needed - DEP problem

    Hi.
    I need help with the installation of Flash Player ActiveX.
    I have Win 7 Home Premium Edition, 64 Bit.
    Everything worked perfectly on my laptop, and I could saw flash objects both on the 32bit explorer and the 64bit explorer version.
    Until recently I've clicked on the 'Restore Default' button in the Explorer menu.
    Since then - when I try to broswe with the 32bit Explorer edition - I keep getting messages like the following:
    "Internet Explorer has stopped working"
    And then - "
    Windows Data Execution Prevention detected an add-on trying to use system memory incorrectly. This can be caused by a malfunction or a malicious add-on.
    Other things you can do:
    Go online to learn about the Data Execution Prevention (DEP) security feature"
    When I disable the "Shockwave Flash Object" from the adds-on menu - everything's good, just I can't see the flash objects, of course.
    I'm tring to install the Flash Player ver. 10.2.159.1 through the DLM or through the manual installation - each time leading to the same result - "Internet Explorer has stopped working".
    With the 64bit Explorer edition - I get no error message - but no flash displayed as well.
    Any help will be much appriciate.

    Ok, I tried to lower it to the minimum - problem still exist.
    And of course I've uninstalled it before. I know a little about computers, just not enough, apparently..
    Keep on trying!
    (Oh, BTW - I've successfully installed flash on the 64Bit version of explorer. ver. 13 something... is there is something like this?
    Anyway, now I need my 32bit version to work...)
    TY.

  • Please help! connection problems

    ok I've been working on this for several hours now and can't figure it out.  I just moved back home and my connection was working some yesterday but I can't get it to work anymore.
    It says I'm connected but it won't receive any packets.  I changed the SSID name and removed the old SSID's.  I reinstalled my wireless pci card drivers and switched pci slots.  I updated the router's firmware (it's WRT54G).  I changed Advanced Wireless Settings as suggested: Beacon Interval: 50; lowered Fragmentation and RTS threshholds by 40 each.  I switched the router to channel 11.
    I've tried repairing the connection many times (some times it works, most times it won't renew IP address); I've also reset the router many times.
    My computer skills are intermediate but certainly not advanced.  I can't directly connect it to the modem via cable b/c I don't have the necessary hardware (modem card?).  I talked to tech support and I was able to "ping yahoo.com," google, etc successfully but it just won't receive packets...Please help!

    The best thing to do at this point is to go back over setting up the wireless security settings again and make sure that while you are setting up these settings that you connect an Ethernet cable from that computer to the router then perform a power cycle
    You need to remove the power cable from the Linksys router, then remove the power cable from the modem, wait about 60 seconds, then plug in the modem, then plug in the Linksys router. Wait about 3 minutes while the modem and router sync back up. Once all light are back on,disconnect the ethernet cable and now try to connect.
    Here are instructions to follow if you need them
    Setting up your wireless connection in your router.
    *** Step #5 = you can choose the type of encryption that fits your set-up, the example I give is: WPA/TKIP+AES
    ***Also Pay close attention to the security and security key information and make sure it matches. (What is entered in the router must be entered in the computer.
    1.Open Internet Explorer and type 192.168.1.1 into the address bar.
    2.You will now get a sign-in box, User Name = (Leave Blank)
                                                           Password = admin (all lower case letters)
    3.Once the set-up page opens, click on the Wireless Tab as youwill need to change the settings. A) Wireless Network Mode = Mixed
                  B) Wireless Network Name (SSID) = Choose any name and do not use Linksys.
                  C) Wireless Channel = 1, 6 or 11 is best, so see which work best for you.
                  D) Wireless SSID Broadcast = Enabled.
    4. Now go to the bottom of the page and click on save settings.
    5. Click on the Wireless Security Sub tab.
                  A) Security Mode: WPA
                  B) WPA Algorithms: TKIP + AES
                  C) WPA Shared Key:  Type 24 letters, and numbers using lower and upper case letters
                  D) Group Key Renewal: 3600
    6. Once again go to the bottom of the page and click on Save Settings.
    7. Now you can close out of this page.
    8. You will now need to enter the security info into your computer. I will now give you 2 links, depending which operating system you have, Vista or XP you will follow the one you have.
    Vista = http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-adapter-configuration-in-vista.html
    XP = http://www.home-network-help.com/wireless-adapter.html
    Now try to make a wireless connection.
    Good Luck,
    Ttech

    220 emachines   Windows XP

    I recently had the same problem following the 10.4.4 update, and was told by DW tech support that there were a number of reported issues with the DW 8.0.1 update. If you're using that you might try rolling back to 8.0. Also, watch out when deleting the DW8 files before reinstalling. There were prefs all over the place: /Library/Preferences, /Library/Application Support, ~/Library/Preferences and ~/Library/Application Support, possibly others. FWIW my problem ultimately was traced to an illegal (for DW, not OSX) character in a recently renamed HD. It was weird, 'cause I had no trouble with DW7, Transmit or Fetch, just DW8.

  • Help Needed connecting a second Airport Express

    I have a perfectly functioning Airport Express. It is connected to a Router and I have DSL. I have encryption and it is password protected. We have 5 Macs that blissfully use this A.E. You would think I would be happy, right?
    My (ahem) wife, then wanted a printer connected in our bedroom (which is quite 2 rooms down from the terminus of the router/1st A.E.) My problem is that I purchased a second Airport Express so that I could plug the printer into the 2nd A.E. Now, I cannot get the second A.E. to become part of the network. It continually blinks green and yellow. I cannot get it to see the 1st A.E. that is connected to my router. The 1st A.E. still chugs along great without problems. Any ideas available to get the 2nd to communicate with the first? My wife is ready to disown me and I need the tax deduction

    Set up the second AirPort Express (AX) as a wireless client. (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302153)

  • Help Needed - Connecting a new Router

    Hi,
    I have just bought an asus rt-ac68u router to replace my old BT home hub 3. I have connected it to the existing BT openreach modem
    I have configured the new router. The WAN settings are PPoE. The router is showing as connected to the Internet.
    However the problem is my computer shows the network is not connecting to the Internet despite the router saying it is connected. When I run a windows network diagnostics test it says there may be a problem with your Domain Name Server configuration
    Has anybody got any ideas what I have done wrong. I've left the dns field to set themselves automatically.
    Appreciate any help you can give. I don't know much about networks, the instructions made it look like it would be pretty much plug and play
    Thanks

    I don't have this router but going by the instructions here
    http://www.asus.com/uk/Networking/RTAC68U/HelpDesk_Manual/
    it should be fairly straight forward to set up. All the setting should be populated automatically when you connect with the exception of the setting I gave you.
    If you have changed or put in any settings other than the PPPoE and account name etc I gave you I would carry out a factory reset of the router and start again following the instructions to the letter.
    Make sure you are connecting by Ethernet before trying to connect by wireless.
