"iChat Icons" folder

I apologize if this is a silly question.
I installed Mac OS X Leopard. I accidentally moved the +iChat Icons+ folder to the trash - it is not deleted.
There's an +iChat Icons alias+ in the Pictures folder. When I click it, the original +iChat Icons+ folder doesn't show up because I had it in the trash. Well I don't want to "fix alias," I just want to move the folder (from trash) back to its original spot.
The problem I have is I don't know what folder iChat Icons was originally at?
Can somebody tell me the destination like folder/folder/folder?
Thanks in advance!

  • Should I delete iChat Icons folder after upgrading to Mountain Lion?

I just upgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. I see an IChat Icons folder alias in my Pictures folder.
Is the original file folder that it references used for anything in Mountain Lion? For example, can Messages access it?
Should I delete the alias and the original now that I have upgraded to Mountain Lion?
    thanks,

    Hi,
I am booted into Yosemite and the version there called Messages 8 (It is also Messages 8 in Mavericks but they are significantly different)
I see this and I think the labelling has changed
This is the lower end of Defaults.
At the top of the Apple User account selection. (see below)
That is followed by the iChat Icons selection. That is the Flags, Flowers and Fruits, guitars, planets and masks plus the Pokemon like ones and the gems
I have always found it defaults to the Recents "folder".
I am struggling to remember how it was in Messages 7 in Mountain Lion.

I have downloaded the new iChat icons offered by .Mac members. When I Have tried to drag these new iChat icons next to my name in the Buddy List as suggested by Mac It does not succeed. Perhaps there is an other way to do it!!!

    Gredoda,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
You must drop them in the Icon Field of the Buddy List window.
If you want to use the iChat interface, quit iChat, and drop all the icon folders which were downloaded from .Mac into your Macintosh HD/Library/Application Support/Apple/iChat Icons Folder. Restart iChat, then click on the Buddy List window Icon Field>Edit>Choose>iChat Icons...and navigate the selection window to choose and "Set" the icon that you want to use.

  • What does this mean? iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone because you do not have write access to the folder "iChat Icons"

Can anyone help me please? My iphone originally was linked to my PC. I downloaded over 3,000 pictures from my PC to my iphone. Since then my PC broke and now I have a macbook pro and the macbook doesn't recognize all the pictures from my pc. I get the following message.
-iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone "Daniel's iPhone" because you do not have write access to the folder "iChat Icons".

    Hi,
I picked up on this Post as I was searching for "iChat" in non iChat places.
A Mac will contain a Folder for "iChat Icons"
It is kept in Hard Drive/System/Library/Application Support/iChat icons
There are about 9 sub folders here including Planets, Guitars, Feng Shui and so on.
They are normally accessed in iChat to be your Own Buddy pic.
They way you have phrased your posts suggests you have a folder on your phone called "iChat icons" which may have been created by the PC.
For people who know more about iTunes than I do to help will need to know where this Folder is exactly.

  • Why do I have a question mark on top of Ichat Icon

why do I have a question mark on top of Ichat Icon ?

    Hi,
If this is in the DOCK it because that icon (and the links it has) have lost contact with the original app.
    Open th Applications folder.
Drag iChat to the DOCK (Creates the icon and links)
If his displays properly drag the old one Off the DOCK and let go (Puff of smoke animation)
IF it is in the Applications folder that you see this then iChat is most probably broken in some way and you will have to reinstall it  (I will needs to know which version for a more complete answer on that)

my ichat wont open when clicking the ichat icon.

    Hi,
For that to work the  App has to have opened in the first place.
I did consider that the poster meant the account/Buddy list was not on view (but that iChat was in the menu bar) but it seemed safer to try launching iChat from the applications folder.

  • IPhoto moved my iChat icons

When I first ran iPhoto (not knowing it was going to want exclusive control of my photos), it imported my iChat icons into the photo library, and I believe it removed them from the original location as I cannot find them outside of the iPhoto library (I did browse inside the iChat package and did a Finder search for the name of one of the GIFs).
Now, iPhoto is not working for me at all and I am planning to manually copy the masters folder to a location outside of iPhoto Library (I prefer Picasa anyway). As part of this process, I discovered the iChat icon issue and would like to know where in the folder tree I need to restore all of these icons to.  Do they all go in the same folders, are there subfolders, or is iChat even picky about the syntax of the folder tree (I'm thinking not since it's apparently worked fine in the interim except for logging me out prematurely at times).

    HI,
Some (called iChat Icons) should be here
    Uploaded with Skitch!
If you click the current pic for your Own Buddy Pic is will show "Recents"
    These are here
    Uploaded with Skitch!
Messages in Mountain Lion Can also see the User Account pics and I am not sure if iChat 6 can.
    But they are here:-
    Uploaded with Skitch!
Most of these places are not in places Spotlight Searches.
There are also the pics from your Buddies.
They are in Hard Drive/Users/(Your Account)/Library/Caches/com.apple.ichat/Pictures

i checked the "TRASH" and it's not in there!
i normally use this as a tool for my job as a freelance producer/publicist and i'm out of touch!
    what should i do?
a friend suggested running "pacifist" while having my install dvd in my computer, but disk one is missing since a recent move. not sure where it went.
any suggestions? is it possible to get a replacement install disk?
    thanks!

    Hi sarinmaul,
Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
This means the icon in the Dock has lost contact with th e Actual application.
Go to the Applications folder and launch IChat form there.
IF it works Drag the ? off the DOck and let go.
Drag the current app to the DOCK to renew the icon and link.
You should not need to Reinstall the app unless there is another proble.

  • The iChat icon won't stop bouncing?!?!?!?

When I had Snow Leopard, I went to iChat preferences and set it so that the iChat icon wouldn't bounce when i got a message. That didn't work.
When I upgraded to Lion yesterday, I went to iChat preferences and set it so that the icon wouldn't bounce, but it still didn't work.
    *** is wrong with this icon-bouncing ?????

You don't need to worry about the system disk icon appearing on the desktop in order to boot from the CD. Just insert the CD, and then restart your Mac while holding down the "C" key until you see the splash screen, then you can release the "C" key and let if finish booting.
Once you have done this you can run the disk utility as per the instructions in the FAQ I referenced.
One other thing that I can think of could be causing this problem. It could be that your desktop preference file is corrupted. What you could try is to navigate to your home/library/preferences folder and look for a file called com.apple.desktop.plist. Take that file and move it out of the library/preferences folder to some other location and then restart your computer and see if CD's will show on the desktop again.
If you do this you will have to reset all of the desktop preferences again. If it does not work you can move the file that you took out back in to the preferences folder and just have it replace the newer file.

  • IChat icons disappeared after SL install

I just upgraded to Snow Leopard and have noticed that some of my ichat icons have disappeared. Has the upgrade wiped them out or have they been placed in a disabled folder ? I can't find them. Can anyone answer this question ? Thanks.

    Hi,
Do you mean that your Buddy list no longer displays Video or Audio iCons whenthe Show Video Status (and Audio one) are ticked in the View menu and they are Both Enabled in the Video menu ?
If so I have seen one other thread on this so far and a Reinstall of the app the support folders coupled with a deletion of the .plists has not seemed to have helped.

  • My iChat icon will not open when I click on it.... what should I do?

I've tried clicking the iChat icon on my Doc many times, and on my top toolbar on the top of the screen, it says iChat, as if the program is open.... yet there are no windows open....... BIT OF A PICKLE.

    Hi,
You can get to this state two ways.
    1) On starting iChat the first time you click through the Start Up Screen with entering any Screen Name or ID info and not turning on the Bonjour Option.
    2) Having set up an Screen Name in ichat (Or just Enabled the Bonjour option) you have then used the red button which has closed the Window but not quit iChat
You have then Quit iChat.  iChat remembers where the Buddy List windows were when you Quit even if they are "Hidden"
    Lets start with 2)
In the iChat Menu go to the accounts sub item
Is anything listed here ?  (Bonjour at least should be)
Un-ticked items are Not Logged in and so Buddy Lists will not show.
Selecting an Item will toggle the Tick and Log the Account In (Selecting it again removes the tick and logs out)
If an Item is Tick but there is no Window then it is "Hidden"
Now go to the Window Menu.
Any Logged in accounts also get listed here with Keystrokes next to them (CMD/Apple key plus a number)
Either select the item or use the Keystrokes
Clicking and Holding the DOCK icon should also give you an option to reveal any Logged in Buddy List.
    Re 1)
If you did not set up an account you should be able to go to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
The Bonjour item is always there in the list and can be Enabled (Use this account) on the right (Account Info tab)
The Bonjour Buddy List will only show Buddies if other iChat Users are on your LAN with iChat On and Bonjour Enabled.
You cannot add Buddies to this list (It will display their Name as they appear in their Address Book on their Computer
At the bottom of the list are two buttons. A Plus one to Add An Account/Screen name and a Minus one to Delete Accounts  (You cannot delete the Bonjour one)
Clicking the add Button opens an new pane
The top item of this is a drop down to select either AIM, @Mac.com or MobileMe (All log in to AIM) and below the line the Jabber options of a Jabber server or GoogleTalk
Selecting either MobileMe or @mad.com and then pressing the "Get an iChat Account" button will take you to a web page (In  Browser) to Register for an @mac.com name
(In iChat 5 the AIM option points to the previous AIM page for Registration but this has moved)
With Jabber or Google Talk you will have to have a Name first
You can of course get your AIM based name first and just fill in the details.
Once you have a name and filled it in with a password you can click Done.
    NOTES
Registering an @mac.com name is applying for an Apple ID (Automatic)
The Password Strength indicator should be ignored as the AIM Servers can only cope with password up to 16 characters long.
Part of the process means you have to list an existing Email address.
This cannot be one already associated with an Apple ID you may already have (Such as using an ISP Email to register to post in Communities)
In Setting up an Account/Screen name in iChat you don't have to enter the password
If you do not iChat will ask you each time.
This at least stops people who get access to your computer logging in to your details.
These iChat 4 How Tos offer a longer explanation (Use the lower menu under the iChat 4 How to title: Work left to right)

  • "iPhoto Library" icon/folder deleted by mistake, how do i recover it?

Fist off i am not a iMac genius, so bear with me as you read .  I Just bought an Imac (21.5 monitor and 1TB with OS X Lion 2012 version).  After transferring all my photos in the "Picture" folder (click, drag and drop into the "finder" then into the "picture" folder (not iPhoto yet) I then selected all the photos (dozens of folders and over 8,000 photos) click and drag then into iPhoto and they all successfully transferred (which took several minutes).  I noticed when transferring most of the photos over it gave me the option to either transfer or discard duplicates, i chose to not import the duplicates.  Since i had ALL my photos in iPhoto i decided to delete the old file that i copied earlier and empty the trash.  In the deleting frenzy i accidentally deleted the "iPhoto Library" icon/folder )or whatever that picture is) and every time I open up iPhoto now it asked to either locate "iPhoto Album 1" (which can not be found) or start another album (which would be "iphoto Library 2" which opens up with none of my pictures.)  Sooooo, after freaking out i downloaded 2 file recovery software program which seems to have found most if not all the pics (still need to pay to get a key code to get them back), however since i delted the photos that transferred into the finder>picture folder and did not delete any photos form iPhoto itself is there a way to get back the "iPhoto Library" that housed all my pictures?  In theory all my pics are still in the hard drive but i do not know where to look for that little "iPhoto Library" icon/folder.  What is the best Apple/Mac recovery software to purchase to get them back?  Or are they all the same?  Or is there a file buried deep in the hard drive that are hiding all my photos that tech support can guide me to?  And if there is, how to i search for that?  Any help would be great!

however since i delted the photos that transferred into the finder>picture folder and did not delete any photos form iPhoto itself is there a way to get back the "iPhoto Library" that housed all my pictures?
    No.
Inside that package are thouands of files - your photos, thumbnails, face thumbnails, database, metadata, cache and other files. To reconstruct the Library you would need to get all of these in exactly all the correct locations. That's not going to happen.
Best you can hope for is to recover the actual photos and then start over from scratch.
Unless you have a back up of course...
    Do you?

  • I click on iChat icon and nothing happens

I first got my Mac and clicked on the iChat icon and I didn't set up any accounts.
I clicked on it again the next day and nothing pops up. I don't know how to set up any accounts because no window pops up or anything.
I don't know how to work iChat because I click on it and nothing happens. What do I do?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
    To Expand on Defcom's answer
It is possible when starting ichat for the First time to Click through the Start Up Screens and not enter any info. (no Accounts).
When you restart iChat it has no Accounts and therefore no Buddy Lists to Display and "Nothing" appears to be the result.
However the Menu Bar should show (until you click the Screen or another icon in the Dock) iChat in the Menu Bar.
If this is the case, click on the word iChat (Menu will drop)
    Chose Preferences then Accounts.
You can then set up Accounts (Screen Names by pressing the + button at the bottom of the Left hand side (which should always List Bonjour whether you use it or not).
