IChat is beta software right?

Its amazing that Skype and sightspeed can perform video chats flawlessly but people have to jump through hoops to maybe get ichat video to work. I can't believe this is an Apple forum with talk about routers and setting modem ports. Skype (which is a beta) and sightspeed worked first time for me and they keep working. Apple software is supposed to be like that, install it and use it.
Is iChat the flakiest Apple software ever?
I'm a Mac user since the Mac Plus days and I've never seen anything like this trash called iChat/video.

ichatav3 works exactly as promised and perhaps even
better than promised in my own situation since I can
also host a 3 way video chat on a G4 733 PowerMac.
(Thanx to a small app called PowerBoost which adds a
significant performance bump to ichatav).
Is Powerboost going to help me connect? I'm glad you have found iChat works eaxctly as promised but judging by this discussion board there are many people for whom iChat AV most certainly does not work, at all! I had to laugh at Steve jobs giving a demo of the next version of iChat today. he is obviously blissfully unaware that this particular Apple software is flaky, intermittant and they are its good points. I don't want pretty backgrounds I just want the **** software to work as advertised! How come Skype can bring out software that works well but Apple's video chat software is a joke for some of us? Doesn't anyone from Apple read these boards?

If you are going to be making a lot of brochures, with photos, you probably want both. Photoshop to edit the photos, and InDesign to assemble and layout images with text.

Download the trial versions and then you will have a better idea what you need.

You could try Handbrake, it works quite well.

Yes Sun will re-issue a correct version of 5.2patch5 as soon as possible.
Meanwhile, Sun customers can get in touch with the support organization and get a hot-fix immediately.
And, yes Sun support is not free... As far as I remember Sun is a commercial company and needs to pay my salary every months :-)

HP 6180: Bug in v9.7 Beta software

I just wanted to report a repeatable problem I've had with the 6100 series, v9.7 beta drivers when used with my MacBook Pro and my HP 6180 All-in-One in hopes Andrew from HP will take note.
The drivers and software were working fine on my MacBook (and my wife's Powerbook G4). However, after I repaired permissions on my MacBook (which indicted numerous changes to HP pinter software), portions of Print pane became non-functional.
Specifically, selecting "Paper Type/Quality", "Boarderless Printing", "HP Real Life Technologies" or "Printer Driver Information" from the drop-down menu has no effect. That is, the Print pane does not change to show these options.
I was able to regain functionality by uninstalling the software, re-installing the drivers from the Leopard install disc and then re-installing the v9.7 software. I then repaired permissions and the above described functionally was lost again.

Final Cut Pro X is beta software

It's been out a week or so and I've been able to spend some time with the software. Without mentioning the missing features that are well reported elsewhere, I am rapidly coming to the conclusion that Final Cut Pro X is pretty unusable. I've done a fair bit of beta testing in my time and in my opinion the software has a very definite beta feel to it.
Crashes are disconcertingly regular, some features plain do not work (have you tried importing iMovie events, for example?), and there are frequent application slowdowns that suggest memory leaks. I really want this software to be good, I really do. But as is stands the software, in my opinion, is incapable of performing the function for which it was written. You have to wonder why Apple released this, why they did not delay the release until the software was considerably more polished? You have to wonder why the development team must have ignored their own beta testers' concerns.
Maybe in a year's time we'll all look back at this and laugh. But as it stands Apple have a monumental task ahead of them if they are to repair the damage caused by this unprecedented premature release.

Have been using FCPx since about 2 hours after its first release and despite some head scratching I've not had a single crash... just imported an iMovie project from my SO and its fine!

IChat Audio out of right speaker only

Not sure what is going on but iChat only sends chat audio only to the right speaker on my MacBook Pro. When in iChat I can launch other programs with sound and it comes out both speakers. My output in preferences is set to the middle also so it should come out both speakers right?

Thats normal in iChat as the mic is close to the left hand speaker, its so you dont get feedback going on.

Better software recommendations for WVC54GCA?

I have had a Cisco WVC54GCA for over a year now and I have never been able to get it to do what I want. I used to have a D-Link camera. The D-Link viewer software was able to record video to the computer's hard drive when ever the motion detection was triggered. Looking at the settings on the cisco it looks like motion detection doesn't do this? It just wants to send an email alert? And when I'm in the viewer software whenever I try to turn on motion detection it crashes the program.
Does anyone know any good free software out there that works better than the Cisco software that came with my camera?

This is a bit different as the Camera utility must be working as expected, just in case, if it is not giving you the desired results, as you have mentioned that its motion detection it crashes the program, then what you can try is downloading the camera setup from the Official website and that should make it to work....

Secondly if you want to save the motion detection to be saved on the hard drive then follow the Steps:
# Open the utility of the Camera…
# Click on Setup --> Preferences.. A window will appear..
# There you will be able to see the ‘Browse’ button from there you can select the location where you want to save the motion detection when triggered…

Better software than Stickies (go with iCal and Omni Focus and Dropbox)

I love iCal and I am digging Omni Focus.
I use Dropbox.
Is there something a little better than Stickies to go with this suite?

Boot Camp is DEFINATELY! a very buggy beta software

When boot camp launched, i burned the disc containing drivers as instructed and anytime i insert this CD into ANY machine intel or not. The CD renders my system unusable....i get the spinning beach ball of death, finder freezes, disk utility freezes so i cant even erase the disk.
Have i totally lost a good CD or is there a way i can wipe it out?. Right now i have to restart my system and force eject so i can remove this thing from my system.
PS i no longer own a MBP just a PowerBook, but the CD was made using my MBP while i still had it.

You do realize that the disk you burned of windows drivers, is intended to be inserted when you are booted into windows? Beach-balls, finder issues, etc would only occur if you're in OSX, and the CD contains windows drivers (and an install util to automate the installation). So, it really shouldn't work under OSX, the fact that it potentially freezes your machine is likely (i'm not an osx guru) a result of the auto-run settings. I'm sure you could get windows to freeze in a similar way w/ autorun. Also, as others have mentioned, your disk could also be bad.
