IChat is set to load at Login -- "iChatAgent" always wants sys password???

Downloaded the "Keychain Update" (but, before that, actually brought the keychain back over manually) . . . So, everytime our iMac G5 w/ Leopard re-boots or re-logs-in . . . we have several app's set to load at login . . . there's a pesky little message:
"iChat Agent wants system password" or something like that. What's the iChat Agent? Is there some little file to delete / modify to make this go away!?!

The username.keychain keychain was the default login keychain in 10.2 (and maybe 10.3?). With Tiger, the default was named login.keychain unless you had the old username.keychain and in that case it would use it. With Leopard, it creates a login.keychain and uses that, no matter what, though it will also unlock and use username.keychain.
Confusing and complex? Yeah, sorta IMO, it's best to just move the old username.keychain aside and maybe just migrate all the relevant keys and certificates to the new login.keychain. An upgrade is a good time for a little system cleanup!

IChat won't fully load

When I tried to open iChat recently (it had been months since I last ran it) it would bounce a few times on the dock and then close. I read that reinstalling ot from the mac install disc might help.
I dragged the old ichat folder from the Applications screen and found the ichat package on the cd and installed it. Now when I open ichat I can get to the screen where I type my aim details and test my video but when I close that window it freezes (pinwheel) and eventually closes. Perhaps I didn't reinstall everythingn that was needed.. either way, here's what the terminal says..

iChat (it would help to know which version) can accept Apple IDs as valid AIM Screen Names.
However if you have iChat 5 or earlier you cannot use ones ending in @me.com or @icloud.com issued by iCloud. (they can be used in iChat 6 or Messages as these versions make a double login to AIM and Apple to allow the use of the password).
In addition if you are using an Apple ID for an AIM Screen Name the password still needs to keep to the 16 character limit that AIM has.
AN @mac.com name can be used on any version of iChat (Until the 30th June 2014)
As it does not need a double check with Apple you can use it to log in to the AIM Web pages
Login here with an AIM Name registered at AIM or and @mac.com name and see if you get any suspended account messages.
Sometimes account can be suspended. Usually because something has triggered the "Unusual Activity" item.
About a year ago many @mac.com users that travelled out of their own country found themselves suspended when they got home.
If the Name checks out of if an Apple ID the password in known to be 16 characters or Less then do this:-
In Lion upwards open a Finder Window and use the Go Menu whilst holding down the ALT key.
Select the Library that appears in the menu list.
Navigate to Preferences.
(If you have version earlier than Lion the just navigate to ~/Library/Preferences (that's the Library in you Home - Little House icon - folder)
Fnd com.apple.ichat.aim.plist (even if you are using Messages)
Drag the file to the Trash and Restart the app.

How do I set up a different login password from my administrator password on the same original admin account?

I need to know how to set up one password for loging into my administrator account and then another for making changes to the account. Basically I want different passwords for login and admin. I already know about the different users accounts and how to set those up. I am not interested in creating a new user account. I want to be able to use one account on the computer and have one password for the login and then a different password for the administative.

Even if you could have two passwords for a single account (which you can't) I'm not sure what advantage would be over just having a normal user account and an administrative account. It's certainly a security best practice on any operating system (Mac, Windows, Linux) to use your computer as an unprivlidged (normal) user account and have a completely separate account with administrative rights that you can use for updates, etc. It's for the same separation of privlidge reasons that normal user accounts are not in the "sudoers" file either.
So, I'd recommend not trying to reinvent the wheel here. Mac OS already does such a great job of automatically prompting you when an administrative privlidge escalation is needed for settings, updates, or installations. If you really need administrative rights all of the time then you might just want to make your normal account an administrator. This is not the best idea but if you are carefull to keep Gatekeeper settings enabled on your Mac, not allow Java in the browser, and just be careful in general on the web, then you can still stay fairly safe on a well updated Mac.
The other benefit to having a separate administrative account is that if your normal user account ever becomes corrupted you can log into the administrative account to solve the issue.
Hope this opinion helps you decide how to proceed.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

Clients running OS 10.4.6 on older iMac (slot loading) cannot login. I get:
“Logging into the account failed because an error occurred. The home folder for the user account is located on an AFP or SMB server. Contact your system administrator for help."
I have eMacs and iBooks on this network running 10.4.6 and they have no problem. Also the iMacs running 10.3.9 have no problem. Since it’s machine and OS specific I’m wondering if it’s an incompatibility problem. The iMacs have the latest firmware on them. The server is a G5 running 10.4.6 server, DNS and DHCP are setup correctly and the share points are setup correctly.

Try resetting the PMU/SMU and PRAM/NVRAM. You'd need to identify the mode of resetting depending on the model of your G5 iMac. The Apple support sites that would help you for this are –

Issues loading the login site of my ISP

When I first power on my modem, I must log into the ISPs page before I can surf the net. This has worked fine for me up until about 2 months ago. Since then, when I get redirected to the login page, it either fails to load, or takes an age to do so (3-5mins).
This happened around the time 3.6.2 was released, but I'm unsure if it was exactly after I upgraded.
Firefox on the mac, and PC, on multiple machines exhibit the issue. Running Safari, Chrome or IE, the page loads instantly. Once logged in I can use Firefox without an issue, even loading the login page again should I choose, it loads the page instantly.
Finally the ISP came back to me, requesting me to disable the validation of certificates (under tools, options, advanced, validation, uncheck all), and re-enabling it after I've logged in.
This does appear to resolve the issue, but I'm wondering why this is the case, and why only Firefox is affected.
It's a right PITA to have to launch another browser to log in, then switch back to FF. It's even worse having to disable the validation check and re-enable it afterwards.
Any ideas what could be causing this behaviour?

Setting External Loaded SWF dimension

i'll be straight to point,well i'm now working on a project using action script 3 now what i'm trying to make is a Main SWF that load whatever other swf into it the tricky thing is that i used 1 xml document read the external swf source and it's setting(such as it's x,y position and it's width and height) and i'm having problem setting the loaded swf width and height btw it's an desktop application and not a website application.,

Strobe was used to verify that the problem was not with my OSMF implementation. Since the results were the same, I am more supsicious of OSMF itself or the underlying AIR framework than the player implementation. Either way, the information I've seen says that progressive download of h.264 video is supported on mobile devices with AIR. It would appear that this is not true in all cases.
The issue has not been observed on not occur on the desktop. It only occurs with StageVideo enabled playback with autoplay on.
In the actual product the videos play one at a time. Once the user has finished with a video, the player clears the references to the media. These are OSMF calls; the media assigned to the player is nulled. If this is not sufficient for garbage collection, then I am at a loss as to how to proceed. My test uses four videos that are roughly 1 MB. If there is a memory use problem, then it would appear something is broken in AIR or OSMF.
I want to be sure I report this correctly. The code involved is more than a snippet, it's a media player designed to be embedded in an app. Do I need to include the complete implementation or will a description be sufficient?

DTP error: Lock NOT set for: Loading master data attributes

Hi,
I have a custom datasource from ECC which loads into 0CUST_SALES. I'm using DTP & transformation which has worked for loading data in the past for this infoobject. The infopackage loads with a green status but when i try to load data, the DTP fails with an error message at "Updating attributes for InfoObject 0CUST_SALES Processing Terminated" & the job log says: "Lock NOT set for: Loading master data attributes". I've tried reactivating everything but it didn't help. Does anyone know what this error means? We're on SP7. Thanks in advance!

I have had this problem in the past (3.0B) --> the reason is that our system was too slow and could not crunch the data fast enough, therefore packets where loacking each other.
The fix: load the data into the PSA only, and then send it in background from the PSA to the info object. By doing this, only a background process will run, therefore locks cannot happen.
Fix#2: by a faster server (by faster, I mean more CPU power)
Now, maybe you have another issue with NW2004s, this was only my 2 cents quick thought

Programmes that load at login

A nice easy one here, hopefully...
I am running Mac OSX 10.5.7 and I have installed some software which loads every time I boot up. I have found the System Preference that allows you to edit the programmes which load at login and I have removed all the unwanted ones, but there is still another programme which loads any way. In the dock, I have right clicked to turn off "Open at Login" but it isn't checked anyway.
So my question is, without having to uninstall this programme, how do I stop it loading every time I turn my mac on?
And in a related way, whenever I run iTunes, it runs the Last.FM programme and I cannot seem to stop it doing that either. Any ideas?

Items that launch on startup are controlled by launchd via launchctl. Items that should start at launch have a plist in either /Library/LaunchDaemons/ or /Library/LaunchAgents/ or in the same folders in your user/Library/ folder. An old method used the StartupItems folder in the /Library folders.
Check in those folders for a file named in reverse domain name based on the company that created Last.FM. It probably has LastFM in the name, but I don't have it so I don't know what it is named.
I just took a look at the program (I think) and it probably installs an iTunes Plugin, so search in those folders in the Library, also.

Since upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion, when I login 1 of 2 disk images I have set to open on login does not mount. It worked under Lion. Stickies opens just fine. The disk images are sparse disk bundles. Are there any suggested remedies? I have already tried repairing permissions. One interesting thing is that previously in LIon, the disk images were just sparse images, not sparse bundles. I switched to bundles after reading that Time Machine backups of sparse bundles would not copy the entire image, only the changed parts. The sprase images are for sharing of photo and iTUnes libraries among multiple family member on the same computer.

If it is working as expected, what do you need with the old backup?
If you want to be able to go back to where you were prior to an upgrade, isolate that backup and don't use it again. As far as Time Machine can tell, the whole drive changed.
The link I posted contains probably everything that anybody knows about Time Machine and how to manipulate it to work as you would like as opposed to how it was designed to work. There are FAQs to continue a backup as opposed to starting fresh, but I wouldn't recommend it for the reasons above. Pondini probably doesn't, either.
If you are going to do a wholesale upgrade of the OS, I would create a bootable clone using something like Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. A bootable clone on an external drive can have you back up and running instantly if the upgrade fails in any way. If the upgrade goes fine, store it away in case you find the current system isn't to your liking.
