IChat / Keychain issue

After the most recent updated to 10.6.3, my iChat would continually prompt for my password for AIM/GoogleTalk each time I opened iChat and/or tried to connect. Even though I had selected that I wanted the password to be saved, I was still prompted each time I connected.
After reading on another board about similar issues, I decided that the iChat code must have been corrupted. Following the instructions on that thread, I did the following:
Unstalled iChat
Re-installed iChat from Snow Leopard installation DVD
Downloaded 10.6.2 Combo Update
In attempting to install the combo update, I was advised the it was not possible as my current drive was not compatible (which makes sense given that I'm on 10.6.3). However, each time I attempt to open iChat now, the application crashes.
HELP!
How can I get iChat to function again (even if it means having to enter my password each time for each service)?

Update:
Apparently, Apple likes to hide its 10.6.3 v1.1 update. I'm downloading and installing now. I have a feeling this will resolve the issue with iChat crashing.

Help..!!  I'm running OS X 10.9.1 on a MacBook Air.  I had keychain issues with passwords etc and bumbled my way out of it by deleting the current keychain and creating a new one with a new log-in (yes, I wrote it down this time!)  But now these little boxes appear wanting my log-in ie. calendar, Safari, Outlook) and its annoying....entering the login gets rid of the box but what a pain and I know it's not right.....I know I need to enter somekind of automatic logins to these apps but how do I do that....and go easy on me, I'm not computer savvy.

Did you install the latest driver set for the device?  there is a new release on motu.com for mavericks.

  • All my browsers quit upon launch; keychain issue?

Strange problem, possibly a corrupted keychain issue; any browser I open in my main user; quits and goes poof. But I can open a browser in another user. I rebuilt my directory; repaired my disk; repaired perms...same prob. In one user it says login keychain missing but I can open browsers, but my login keychain exists where I can't open browsers... OK, it's very fricked up. Do I need to do a complete archive and install? Any other options? Thanks
ps Just discovered, I can open a page in main user; from a saved html icon; but not when I enter addresses in the url input field. Weird. Then it goes poof. Maybe its a problem with the url input field? A workaround seems to close it and use command L in firefox.
Already tried resetting my ACL from startup disk.

thanks; so in effect; are you saying that theoretically; the conflict ultimately is in one of the .plist files? If so, I could do some educated guesswork and remove suspected ones, one by one...?

  • Keychain Issue for the password for my mac account.

Keychain Issue. Keeps asking for the password for my mac account. When i type it, i keep getting "rejected the password. But it is the correct one. Verified in keychain access. "The .Mac server 'mail.mac.com' rejected the password for user XXXXXXXX. Please reenter your password, or cancel."
    Thanks in advance
    don

But may I ask why you're using separate servers for in & out?
I don't know the answer to that. For many years, it's always been set up like that. I have never changed anything.
Should i delete the .mac mail account & set it up again? If so, What servers should i use for incoming & outgoing?
Keep in mind i'm having the same issue on my desktop & laptop, both running tiger 10.4.11, as far as they will upgrade.
I do have a laptop running Lion, but that shows an icloud account, not a .mac account like the older computers. It also has a bellsouth account with the password that is correct and a gmail account which is working fine.

  • How do I sign back in to iCloud on my Mac after signing out in order to fix a keychain issue?

I signed out of iCloud, following directions on how to fix a keychain issue with all my devices.  I was to sign them all out then sign back in on the one with the most info, which is my Mac.  I opened Preferences, then iCloud, but the button with "Sign Out" which I assumed would be a toggle does not produce an option for signing back in!  Help!

So the iCloud button in System Preferences still says "Sign Out"?
Yes, it is a toggle.  If it says "Sign Out", then you are signed in!  Sign out, then sign back in.

  • Keychain issue (I believe)

    Hi all,
Last week my computer started acting up and rendered two of my most used apps unusable. Currently, iMessage does not work on my computer. Messages sent from my phone do not sync, and when I try and send a message from the app, it says that whoever I'm trying to send to is not registered with iMessage, even though they are. Also, my mail app cannot receive or send message and constantly prompts me for the password, which it always rejects. Keep in mind, both messages and mail are working perfectly fine on my phone. I think it's a Keychain issue because while i'm in Safari, i'm occasionally prompted to enter my admin password to unlock vague, non-descript keychains.
    Any ideas on a remedy?
    Thanks so much!

Update: I was able to fix my issue with mail by repairing the keychain and restarting the app, but I'm still having issues with iMessage.

  • ISync & Keychain issues at startup

    Hi
I'm getting four or five popup Keychain messages when I boot my Macbook. One of them said this:
dmnotifyd wants to use keychain "login".
I'm pretty good at solving keychain issues -- have run Keychain First Aid, etc. (it reported nothing). Have repaired permissions, rebooted, etc.
Also, suddenly I cannot access the "Sync" portion of the .Mac preference pane. Beachball. Fun fun fun.
Any help appreciated. I'm close to moving to Google Calendar.... real close.

My GUESS is that either eDirectory/ndsd/LDAP isn't up and running at the point that nss/nam wants to load since both items depend on them.
You can check two log files:
/var/log/messages (look at the timestamps for when the server boots up and you'll be able to see the lines for where eDirectory loads and then NSS and namcd)
    and
    /var/log/boot.msg
Since it sounds like you can manually load/start them, it sounds like a timing problem to me. Is that correct, that you can manually start NSS and NAMCD?

  • IChat communication issues (i Think...)

    Hello iChat forum,
So, I've been having a lot of trouble with my ichat recently.  Not sure if there's been a recent update or something, but in general things seem to be completely haywire.
I used iChat to connect to my already existing AIM and GTalk accounts.  Some days it works, and other days it doesnt.  Today nothing is working at all.
There are no password issues.  I have been able to log in in the past with no problem.  In fact I was online on both accounts yesterday.  Today the application will not even respond to my request to sign on.
I went ahead and deleted all the accounts in my iChat preferences, and re-added them with the + symbol, to see if that would trigger anything.  Unfortunately not.  I'm going to re-boot now and see if that will do anything, but I'm guessing probably not.
Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening?  My accounts are all there, but when I ask iChat to "Log in to Gmail" or "Log in to AIM," the little grey window with my username, photo, and status simply sits there and does nothing.  I have also tried changing my status on this little grey window to "Available" with the green circle beside it, but no luck there either.  I would really like to be able to log on to gchat and AIM on a regular, reliable basis, as I speak to my developer, friends, and other business associates via these programs.  I don't like to leave the browser windows open all the time, which is currently how I'm accessing GTalk.
Maybe, if iChat is just not doing well, there is another application someone could recommend as a GTalk + AIM client all in one.  I really like that I only have to have one window open and all of my contacts are there for me to chat with in one window.
Thanks for any help or advice!

    Hi,
Open Applications/Utilities and open Keychain Access.
Make sure the Login account is selected at the top left panel.
Select the Password section in the lower left panel.
Check these for your AIM Name.
If you have changed you password they may be two entries.
(As you Deleted and Recreated the iChat Accounts consider typos).
Double click the line to bring up the info panel.
Click the Show Password box (this brings up a dialogue Box for your Account Password and to use the Allow Once Button).
Does the Password show what you expect ?
Old Names/passwords are not deleted or changed but new ones are created which may mean there are several entries for the same "Name" (AIM ID)
You can delete one of multiple entries.
You can also change the password shown and save the result.
It sounds if iChat is either not allowed through the Mac Firewall or possibly not through the routing device.
Also do you have a DNS server listed in System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > DNS tab ? (A local IP like 192.168.0.1 that points to your router does not count).
As you say you are logged in via the Google Web Pages to access the chat option there, then we can presume the Password works for Google.
Have you logged in to AIM Express to find out if the (AIM) password works for AIM ?

  • Wi-Fi not connecting due to keychain issues

Here is an odd issue that has crept up a month or so after upgrading to Mavericks. When I put my MacBookPro8,1 to sleep or reboot the Wi-Fi will not connect automatically. It appears to try but then fails miserably. However, I go to the Wi-Fi menu item and can manually select my network and it will connect. As it is connecting I am displayed with a dialog titled, "Keychain Not Found" with text of "Keychain 'System' cannot be found to store 'HCC.'" HCC is the name of the secured network I am connecting to. The SSID is hidden, but obviously it is not an issue with Mavericks properly identifyng it. This is my office router, but the same issue happens at home with my secured router with the SSID broadcasting.
As I am looking at the dialog and deciding what to do, the Wi-Fi menu item indicates a connection and internet traffic starts to flow. I then click "Cancel" in the dialog and am presented with another dialog indiciating the network could not be joined with options to "Cancel" or "Run Diagnostics." On other occassions I have chosen "Reset to Defaults" in the "Keychain Not Found" dialog, but the secondary window asking for my password acts oddly. It remains shaded as if front most window, no matter what window I activate. Even if no other apps are running and the window appears to be frontmost, I cannot type a password or press return to trigger the "OK" button.
I got the problem to go away for a fe days when I disabled iCloud Keychain, reset my keychain from Keychain Access, and rebooted. However, a few days after turning iCloud Keychain back on the problem persists.
I am pasting in some console messages broken down into the steps I took when waking from sleep and selecting the network from the menu bar. I redacted my mac address and certificate identifiers.

  • Keychain issues - beyond already answered

So I know there are a ton of topics on this.
Out of the blue, I started getting the keychain not found messages. At some point in my troubleshooting, the keychain was deleted.
I've read about the deleting the unique code in terminal, that won't work because the file is deleted.
Apple posts the tip to delete the keychain and recreate that, but I can't do that without the password for the remaining keychains.
I currently have 3 keychains listed:
    -Local items
    -System
    -System Roots
When I start the Mac, or open any Apple program: Safarai, itunes, iphoto, etc. I get the keychain cannot be found error. If I dismiss them they just keep coming back up.
None of the solutions posted have helped me.
I have no idea how to use Terminal, so maybe that can be an issue, but I pretty much copy and pasted the items in the other answers and that hasn't helped because the keychain that went "bad" was deleted.
I cannot delete, run first aid, or rename any item because I do not have a password.
    Any assistance would be appreciated.

It sounds like your problem, at least in part, is that you do not have the password for your user account. If that's the case: How to Reset OS X User Account Passwords – Computer Skills – Tuts+

  • Keychain issues

On my Macbook pro the Login Keychain is missing and I have been unable to fix this issue.
So far I have tried: Keychain First Aid, creating a new profile, manually try to create a new Login Keychain, deleting the keychain plist file but nothing has worked. I keep getting an error that the Keychain cannot be created or fixed. I even took the laptop to the Apple store but they did have any ideas. Can someone please help me?
    Thanks

Did the issue occur with the new account's keychain? If not, then you need to isolate the conflict or corruption. You can proceed in two ways. One is to log into your new account, make a list of the preference files (plists) located in /username/Library/Preferences/, including any in the ByHost subfolder, log back into the original account, move everything on that other account's list from the original account's Preferences folder into a newly created folder on the Desktop, log out and back in, and see if the problem goes away. If so, you can copy the ones in the Desktop folder (one at time) back into /Preferences/, restart, and see if the problem returns. If so, you've identified the corrupt/conflicting one. Continue with all of them until isolating the bad ones. That'll save you the trouble of resetting preferences.
The second way is much more detailed and I'll not burden you with the steps unless the above doesn't fix the issue.

I have Office 2008 installed, I know there are some issues there.
I have tried the Keychain Health Check and also the option to reset the Keychain and nothing seems to make this message stop appearing.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Josh, Try moving the 'com.apple.keychainaccess.plist' file to your desktop (don't trash it).
Restart and see if that helps.
    HD/Users/yourhome/Library/Preferences/ com.apple.keychainaccess.plist
    Good luck,
    Tom

  • Ichat server issue

I got a macbook and everything works great except ichat. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to run aim, and the aim i downloaded for the mac just isn't cutting it, cause it has too many errors.
When I try to log in to aim on ichat, it says "account name or server is not valid" so I'm pretty sure this is just an issue of me not having the server configured correctly but I'm not sure how to do that either.
So if you could help that'd be great, cause I really miss having aim.

  • Keychain Issue...no idea what I'm doing. Help!

    Hey All..
I am having a little trouble with my passwords. I have 2 mail accounts on my MBP. One is my .Mac mail and the other is my POP3 mail. For the past year or so everything has been fine (and the previous 2 years on my PB) But, yesterday I was messing around using "Main Menu" application cleaning up my computer.
I have never used it before so I was just trying to make some space by removing things. Anyway, did the following things:
    Clean User Cache
    Clean System Cache
    Empty Browser Cahe
    Clean Font Cache
    Remove Corrupt Preferences
    Clean All Logs
    Remove Temporary Files
I did all of these and just wondered if any of this would have had an affect on my Mail. I also have MSN Messenger on my laptop and iChat and when I open them I am also now prompted for my password.
I went in to the mail preferences and sure enough on both accounts the password field is blank. So I filled them in the saved them. But on reopening the preferences the passwords are gone again. Please help as it's very frustrating. I started all this after a one-2-one training session in the Apple Store yesterday. Would love some help if anyone can spare the time. I'm not sure what I did but would love to undo it. Is there anyway I can go back?
Another user said that it would be a keychain problem and that I should use first aid. I tried "Verify" forst and it did so...no problem. Then repair but it still doesnt remember my passwords. Anyone got any idea if there is a tutorial online I can check out or indeed how to set my keychain to remember my passwords. I am a fairly useless Mac user even thugh I love them.
    Many thanks..
