IChat Long Loading Problem

Hi Everyone,
When I open iChat, it takes a long time for it to load. It eventually loads, but it just takes a long time. Should I be worried about this? Or is it not even a problem?

Hi Coy_Mc,
What do you mean by a long time ?
Does it take longer than other Applications that connect to the internet ?
How many bounces in the DOCK does the icon take ?
The tiem will depend on the processor you have and what other applications are already open or opening at the same time.

I've been using Elements 10 on my windows 7 machine editing RAW/NEF picture files taken with a Nikon D40X camera with no problems. I upgraded my camera to a Nikon DX7100 and can no longer load my RAW/NEF into elements 10. Is there a compatability problem with my new camera? Will upgrading elements to a newqer version solve the problem?

NEF's for the D7100 should work with the latest version PSE13

I found a fix for this, not only firefox but several other networking programs were broken as well (Outlook and IE were ok for some reason) so I reasoned that the Norton uninstall was incomplete somehow - I had done it from the add/remove programs in the control panel. Sure enough that's not enough to release Norton's tentacles in your system, there's an uninstall tool on their website (a whole set of them actually) that managed to carve it out completely and after a restart everything was back to normal. My machines will definitely be Norton-free from now on ... N

  • Problem of long loading and processing file in outlook 2010 of domain user

    Dear all,
I have a problem on long loading and processing file when every open outlook 2010
This problem occur when I join my computer to domain (window server 2008 r2) and set outlook of domain user to use shared .pst file, owner by administrator of that computer. Every time when log in to domain user and I open the outlook, it will take very
long time to loading and processing the file, moreover it always ask password of the email I have set. However, when I finish input password and it is finish send/receive the email, the program work normally.
I also try with another user account which is the administrator of that computer, the program run very fast and work normally.
I am not sure the problem is caused from, or is it the wrong way to share .pst file with another user? Any suggestions please give to me.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Long Load Times on Graphic Intensive Games

I'm experiencing some absurdly long load times (1-3 hours) with many games (SPORE, Portal, X:3, etc...) that I believe may be related to how graphically intensive they are. Older games with lower graphics quality (WoW, Civ 4, etc...) load up fine.
When I load any newer game the icon appears in the tray and the computer does nothing else for at least an hour, whereupon the program loads and begins playing immediately--often without any further delays or issues.
I also use Boot Camp to run Windows Vista (Ultimate 32) and experience no delays when running SPORE on Windows.

  • Long loading time if no internet connection available (VS 2005 Redist)

    Hallo forum members!
I've been searching for a solution for my problem for a while - without success. It isn't really a critical issue, but quite annoying anyways.
Here's the problem i'm dealing with: I've developed an .NET application using Visual Studio 2005 and the included Crystal Report classes. When deploying my module everything works  as expected, offering a decent performance when loading the Crystal Report assemblies provided by the redistributable package - if an internet connection is available. If the system doesn't offer such a connection (e.g. not properly configured proxy settings) the module takes a huge amount of time to be loaded. An examination (using ProcMon) leaded to the conclusion that the Crystal Report assemblies try to retrieve the system connection settings from the registry in order to establish a connection to the internet. This is done only once when loading for the first time.
Has anyone experienced the same problem? What is this connection used for? Is there a way to suppress this behaviour on systems without a valid internet connection in order to avoid this annoying long loading time?
Thanks on advance for your help.
    Greetings,
    L.F.

Nothing like a good vacation. And I got your christmas present early :). While you were away we (actually one other customer) figured it out. I have written a note re. the resolution that was supposed to be published yesterday, but it's still not out there, so here it is as I submitted it:
    Symptom
When a report is loaded is takes between 150 - 180 seconds to display
This is only reproducible on computers with no internet connection
There are no error messages and the report comes up eventually
    Reproducing the Issue
Create a Windows application with the following function calls:
              new Report()
             report.SetDataSource(dataSet)
The function SetDataSource takes 2 plus minutes to execute
    Cause
On SetDataSource() an attempt is made to connect to crl.verisign.com
SetDataSource() uses the framework and as per the Microsoft Knowledge Base specified under "Resolution", it is actually the framework that is attempting the connection
    Resolution
Solution is described in this Microsoft Knowlege Base:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936707
The following Microsoft article also discusses the issue:
    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb629393.aspx
An alternative workaround to the above is as follows:
Open IE and go to the Tools menu and select Internet Options...
    Go to the Advanced tab
    Find the Security heading
Under the Security heading find "Check for publisher's certificate revocation"
    Uncheck this option
    Keywords
long time load crl.verisign.com certificate revoked internet
The note will be published here:
    https://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/businessobjects-notes
and the number will be 1270414

In the case you aren't trolling, here's some alternative mapping services.
Apple is constantly working on improving their new Maps service, but until it reaches the level of finesse necessary to be usable, take a look at some alternatives.
If you would like to send a suggestion to Apple, please go to http://www.apple.com/feedback or you can Report a Problem via the Maps app by tapping the bottom right.
Bing Maps offers a very good maps service with Bird's Eye, a feature similar to Flyover. It's arguably better than Google Maps.

  • IPHOTO NO LONGER LOADS AFTER INSTALLING 10.4.10 on G4

After installing 10.4.10 on a G4 desktop, iPhoto no longer loads. When I try to rebuild library, the applications quits at the last instant. Any suggestions on how to fix or how to uninstall and get back to earlier system?

    Hello young:
Hopefully you had a backup of your system prior to updating. Going "back" will probably not help as it it unlikely that OS X 10.4.10 caused the problem (it has been ouut for awhile, and no similar problems have been noted, as far as I know).
I suggest that you do several things:
Run repair disk from your software install DVD.
Run repair permissions from your internal HD.
If those do not help, download the combo OS X 10.4.10 and reinstall it.

  • I can no longer load certain games on face book after updating to 4.0.1

after updating to 4.0.1 I can no longer load the game farmville or frontierville on facebook. i first tried to send a feed back and it indicated that I had the wrong version. I went through reseting the useragent as per your instructions but not all of your useragents you indicated were listed. I then tried again to send a feedback this time it went through but after entering my comments it would not send them. So do I uninstall firefox and start over? If I do what happens to my bookmarks?

It went a little farther this time after disabling AVG. The problem still exists it will not continue loading the app. It just goes dead there is no traffic on the sat modem, also it does not show any friends when I try to send gifts. All of this worked with the previous version of FireFox. I tried it with Google Chrome and everything worked just fine.
Thanks for the input - any other ideas?

  • IChat randomly loads and wakes my machine from sleep.

iChat has been randomly loading and waking my machine from sleep. I can even be sitting in front of it and suddenly it will load and log me in AIM. Seems very virus like, but not sure it is. Anyone know what's going on?

Here's a more detailed description of what's happening.
After upgrading to 10.5.1, my iChat will load automatically at random times. It will even wake the computer out of sleep to load it. I was really frustrated that this was happening, and believing it was from having upgraded from 10.4, I decided to format my computer. After a clean wipe and updating to 10.5.1, iChat again is loading by itself randomly. I can quit iChat and go away for 30 minutes, come back, and it's launched again.
I have noticed on occasion when my iPhone is connected via the USB port that when it receives an e-mail it has been prone to launching iTunes and iChat, so this problem might be inter-related. However, I can have my iPhone disconnected and iChat will still load by itself. In fact, I quit out of iChat this morning, came to work and loaded iChat here at the office and it said I was logged in at another location. It must have logged in again at home. It's never done this in any other OS version for me.

  • Iwl3945 module loading problem (with workaround)

I've been experiencing problems with my intel wireless card (iwl3945) not loading at boot time. The problem arose after a fresh install from a Chakra (kdemod) live CD after I got a new harddrive for my notebook. It worked fine from the live CD and immediately post-install but when I upgraded the system with "pacman -Syu" (the kernel was upgraded as part of this) the card no longer loaded during boot (i.e. wlan0 would not show up under "ifconfig -a").
I checked some threads on the iwl3945 (e.g. http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php? … 18#p638618 and http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=73876) but couldn't find quite the same behaviour so decided to start a new thread.
It's also similar to this thread (http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=82357), but this is not for the iwl3945.

I read somewhere that there was an issue with kill switches and that rfkill may help so I installed it from AUR. However, there didn't seem to be any block:
    $ rfkill list
    1: hci0: Bluetooth
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: no
    2: dell-wifi: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no

    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: no
I also tried creating a modprobe.conf file as suggested in some quarters (/etc/modprobe.d/iwl3945.conf):
    alias wlan0 iwl3945
    options iwl3945 disable_hw_scan=1
Sadly still no luck on a reboot.
After much pulling of hair the following workaround finally did it for me. Basically even though the module doesn't load during boot I can remove it and then modprobe it manually and it then works so that I can bring up the interface:
    # rmmod iwl3945
    # modprobe iw3945
    # ifconfig wlan0 up
    # ifconfig -a
    eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:15:C5:46:C6:6A
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1

    RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
    Interrupt:17
    lo Link encap:Local Loopback
    inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
    inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
    UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:16436 Metric:1
    RX packets:24 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:24 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
    RX bytes:1240 (1.2 Kb) TX bytes:1240 (1.2 Kb)
    wlan0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:18:DE:1E:7B:46
    UP BROADCAST MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
    RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
    wmaster0 Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-18-DE-1E-7B-46-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
    UP RUNNING MTU:0 Metric:1
    RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
    TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
    collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
    RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)
I can then use wicd to connect to my router at home (networkmanager doesn't seem to work for me with the same settings).
Hopefully this may be of some use to someone with the same issue and to any kernel gurus that may be scanning this section of the forum.

I tinkered with the rfkill module as suggested.
First checked what the default behaviour was
    $ lsmod | grep rfkill
    rfkill 19728 3 bluetooth,dell_laptop,cfg80211
Then blacklisted rfkill in rc.conf using "!rfkill" in the modules line
    $ lsmod | grep rfkill
    rfkill 19728 1 cfg80211
Unfortunately I still had to manually remove and reload iwl3945 as before.
I tried inserting the options in modprobe.conf suggested by you in your other post
    # /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
    options bluetooth rfkill=0
    options dell_laptop rfkill=0
After a reboot still no wireless activity and checking rfkill module gives same as for blacklisting in rc.conf, i.e. ...
    $ lsmod | grep rfkill
    rfkill 19728 1 cfg80211
So still manually un/reloading as before. At least the workaround is not too labour intensive.
