IChat "Lost Connection" | iTunes "-50 Unknown Error Occurred" Problems

Hello Everyone!
Since installing a wireless network in my house my MacBook Pro is having problems. Now, iChat won't connect and just says "Lost connection with AIM" as soon as I attempt to connect, although AOL Instant Messenger works perfectly. Also now when I am trying to purchase music through iTunes it says "-50 Unknown Error Occurred" and it recommends for me to check my network connection. The wireless connection is working fine for internet browsing but I am having all of these troubles with other programs. I am extremely confused. My network is WPA2 Personal, and I'm running 10.4.8. Please help!

Thanks for all the help.

  • Itunes: An unknown error occurred (-50): external disk sleeping

    Hi All.
I posted this question about a year ago, but never got a usable answer.  However, now I have more info, and thought I'd give it another try.
I have an external disk that I attach via USB to my iMac running OS X 10.6.8, which is left on almost all the time.  When I don't use the computer for an extended period, despite having the "Put the hard disk(s) to sleep when possible" unchecked in the Energy Saver system preferences, the disk in the external array spin down anyway.
Most of the time, when I return to the computer, the disks spin up just fine and there's no issue.
However, sometimes, when I return, I'll find the disk that was normally read/write is now available, but read only, and messages such as the following are in the console log:
         7/13/11 4:33:42 PM          kernel          disk3s2: I/O error.     7/13/11 4:33:42 PM          kernel      7/13/11 4:33:42 PM          kernel      7/13/11 4:33:42 PM          kernel          jnl: disk3s2: do_jnl_io: strategy err 0x5     7/13/11 4:33:42 PM          kernel          jnl: disk3s2: write_journal_header: error writing the journal header!     7/13/11 4:33:48 PM          kernel          disk3s2: I/O error.     7/13/11 4:33:48 PM          kernel      7/13/11 4:33:48 PM          kernel      7/13/11 4:33:48 PM          kernel          jnl: disk3s2: do_jnl_io: strategy err 0x5     7/13/11 4:33:48 PM          kernel          jnl: disk3s2: end_transaction: only wrote 0 of 12288 bytes to the journal!
The disk has my iTunes library on it, and iTunes complains  "An unknown error occurred (-50)".
If I eject this 3Tb disk from the system and then use either 'Disk Utility' or 'diskutil' to mount it, it comes back up just fine.
My question is, is there a way to use the 'remount option on the mount command to fix this?  If I try, I get
         #  mount -o remount,rw /dev/disk3s2 /Volumes/Audio4TbRaid0     mount: -o remount: option not supported     #
If not the mount command, is there some hidden option to 'diskutil' that will do this without having to unmount the drive first (and cause all the open windows into the drive to go away)?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Just an update to this:  It's definitely a problem with external (USB 2 connected) drives that go into sleep mode.  When they spin up, they sometimes are in read only mode.
Unmouting them and mounting them again restores normal operations.
Annoying?  You bet.  Workaround?  Yeah, I guess...

  • Why can't I log into my iTunes account, Unknown error occurred (-54)

Recently I had my Macbook pro reformatted back to factory conditions. After downloading all the software updates I tried to log into the iTunes store, but everytime I get the message " We could not complete your iTunes Store request. An Unknown error occurred (-54)"
I am able to connect to the iTunes store itself and look around and preview songs. but I can't log in to my account. I have the latest version of iTunes, and I haven't altered any settings in iTunes, so I'm confused as to why I am receiving this error message.
The other discussions and trouble shooting pages referencing the error (-54) seem to all talk about ipod sync issues or not being able to access the store in general. So if anyone has any further insight as to why I'm receiveing it, I would greatly appreciate it. Thank you.

I found the solution to this on another forum. I was able to fix this by manually disabling the firewall on my mac.   From the command line:
    sudo ipfw disable firewall
Match will then run fine until I do the corresponding enable or restart the computer.
I don't understand enough about the internals of the mac to know why changing this using the Terminal is more effective than simply disabling the firewall from settings, but it is. If you run this command line, it will make the -54 error go away.

  • Cannot burn to DVD in iTunes 6 - unknown error occurred [261]

I'm having issues burning a playlist to DVD in iTunes 6 - it rejects the DVD and gives me an error message "The attmept to burn a disc failed. An unknown error occurred [261]." If I try to burn the same playlist to a CD, there is not a problem. In my "burning" preferences within iTunes, I have selected "Data CD or DVD", but when I pull the preferences up again, it only says "Data CD". I click this option again and it gives me "Data CD or DVD", but never seems to keep the "DVD" part of the option.
I have been able to burn to DVD from playlists in the past, but I believe it was before I upgraded to iTunes 6.
    Any suggestions?

Correction: I cannot burn CDs or DVDs of playlists in iTunes 6.0.1. I have no problem burning CDs in other applications and could burn CDs prior to updating to iTunes 6.

  • IPad won't sync to PC iTunes. Unknown error occurred (-50)

I just got a new iPad 2 about a week ago, the first time I tried syncing it, everything worked. However after I've started using it, everytime i try to sync on iTunes again an error message appears: "the iPad "ipad's name" cannot be synced. An unknown error occurred. (-50)"
I use a PC, so I don't have iPhoto or anything like that.
    Please help!!

Have you the latest version of iTunes? Failing that, try Reseting your iPad - hold down the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons together for 15 seconds.

    Hello m295,
The following article contains several troubleshooting steps that can help restore functionality to the iTunes Store on your mac.
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1368
    Troubleshooting on a Mac
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store, a software conflict or your internet service provider (ISP) may be blocking your access.
Update iTunes to the latest version.
If you have a firewall, your settings may be preventing you from connecting to the iTunes Store. To configure your firewall, please refer to the "Blocked by firewall" section in this article.
You may need to reset your keychain. Connection issues are occasionally caused by keychain issues. Click here to find out how to use Keychain First Aid to resolve any issues with your keychain.
If you are receiving a specific error message you may want to see, the "Specific Conditions and Alert Messages" section in this article as needed.
If the issue still persists, contact your internet service provider and confirm that the ports and servers in this article are enabled over your network.
    Additional Information
If the steps above did not resolve your issue, be sure that your specific alert is not listed in iTunes: Possible iTunes Store errors. Then, if your issue is still unresolved, follow steps in iTunes: Advanced iTunes Store troubleshooting.
    Cheers,
    Allen

    help me...

    Hi ashraf_8900,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I know that it can be frustrating when you cannot open iTunes or sign in with your Apple ID. There may be a few different troubleshooting steps I would recommend. I would first recommend that you completely uninstall iTunes and all of its related components in the correct order, however. Please use the attached article for information and instructions on removing iTunes from your computer. Once removed as described in the steps below, please install fresh and test. If the issue continues, please let me know.
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8 - Apple Support
    Steps
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order. Then restart your computer.
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects.
    Happy holidays,
    Joe

  • ITunes Match - Unknown Error Occurred (4010)

    Is iTunes Match down?
I can't connect and keep getting this error message:

I had this problem also and tried a few more troubleshooting steps (none of which worked), but they might help someone.
Sign out of Apple Id in iTunes, then sign back in
Turn on iTunes Match <-- didn't work, still had 4010 error
Turn off/on iTunes Match while holding the Option Key <-- didn't work, still had 4010 error
    Quit iTunes
Go into Finder -> Music and rename the "iTunes" folder to "iTunes Backup"
Hold down Option key while clicking on the iTunes icon to start it (this asks you to create a new iTunes library)
Created a new iTunes folder (Music -> iTunes)
Sign into Apple Id in iTunes, then turn on iTunes Match while holding the Option Key <-- didn't work, still had 4010 error
Physically walk to another iMac and sign into iTunes and turn on iTunes Match while holding the Option Key <-- didn't work, still had 4010 error
At this point, after having tested on multiple iMacs, I figured that the problem was not with my local iTunes, but something larger (on Apple's end).
Apparently, if you can't access iTunes Match on multiple computers, then the problem could be with your account and you will need to contact Apple Support.  I ended up describing my situation on the support page here - https://getsupport.apple.com/, and had them call me.  I spoke to Anastasia and she had to bump me up to another technician, Brandon.  He suggested that I delete the Album from iTunes...but alas, I cannot get access to the album to delete it without iTunes Match working.
Brandon finally spoke with an Engineer and they said that the issue was on my Apple Id Account and that they'd have to place the account into troubleshooting mode (which means giving Apple access to your account) so that they could figure out the problem.  Of course, I wanted this fixed, so I let them.  I'll hear back in 3-4 days what the engineers find.

  • ITunes An unknown error occurred (-45054).  When running OS X Server 10.9

On 10.9 this error message results when iTunes is unable to access '/Users/Shared'.
In a non-server environment the problem is resolved by running Disk Utility and performing "Repair Disk Permissions".
If you are running OS X Server, File Sharing will override the standard permissions.
To resolve this issue, make sure that the user running iTunes has a minimum of "Read Only" access to the Shared Folder "Shared".
Be aware that even if "Everyone Else" has "Read Only", there may be a group that includes the iTunes user that is preventing access. For example "Workgroup" has "Custom" settings that block access.  In this case, delete "Workgroup" access and re-add with the appropriate permissions.
This appears to be a regression with 10.9.  Previously (10.8.5) an error dialog would be displayed and processing would continue.
Note: This error is accompanied by the following Log entry (via Console)
iTunes: BUG in libdispatch client: kevent[EVFILT_WRITE] delete: "No such file or directory" - 0x2
