IChat Not Adding Buddies in Google Talk account

Hi Ralph-
I recently upgraded to 10.5.8. I use Spanning Sync to sync iCal and Address Book with Google. I recently had to reset to my Google account information--delete all contacts and events and reload them to Google using Spanning Sync. I knew that I would have to re-add my Google Talk buddies in iChat. However, iChat will not add buddies. They appear, blink a few times, then disappear. Normally, Google Talk buddies appear, blink a few times, then say "Waiting for Authorization" under status. No dice. They just disappear.
Even if I invite my friends using the chat feature in Gmail through my browser, I cannot add buddies! However, my friends can add me without issue. I've done a great amount of research into the issue. I'm fairly confident its not a Feedbag 10 error and am trying to establish whether its a server issue rather than iChat.
Any input/suggestions are well appreciated.

Hi,
If they have Full names and appear in the Address Book drag them from the Address Book to iChat.
iChat checks that the First Name Last Name info is not already in the Address Book
When iChat was an AIM only client this used to be Called Feedbag (yes FeedBag) Error 10
http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page13.html#feedbag
The Same thing can happen in Jabber ID (including Google)
Previously added Buddies should be Authorized

  • Ichat can't communicate with google talk account

hey there, I keep getting the following error from my ichat; "Ichat can't communicate with google talk account Gmail." Not sure why I am getting this. My ichat has worked fine in the past. Anyone have any idea what's going on? I've already gone into settings and deleted the ichat account and re-installed it. that didn't work...
    please and thank you!

    HI,
Did you change the password at Google and forget to do it in iChat ?
Is Talk still Enabled at your Google Account Settings ?
In re-adding the account you ar using the "right"  ending (@gmail.com or @googlemail.com) ?
    Try deleting com.apple.ichat.Jabber.com
You will need to do this in the Finder
    Use the Go Menu.
Hold th ALT key and select th Library
    Open Preferences
Find the .plist and Drag to Trash
    Restart iChat.

  • Messages is not displaying avatars from google talk account

I'm newer to using messages on my macbook pro. I've just recently upgraded to Mountain Lion and am loving the integration with imessage and my other chat client (google talk). Unfortunately, I'm not seeing all the nice avatars that are on my google talk account in messages. How can I get those to pull into the app? Or, if I have to, how do I add them manually?

I too had the the same problem, but i solved it by the followin method.
    Step 1 : Enable 2 setp verification from gmail.com (https://www.google.com/settings/security)
Step 2 : Go to Manage in Connected applications and sites tab
Step 3 : Generate application specific password.
Step 4 : Now go to system preferences > Mail, Contacts & Calenders > Google tab (If already) > details> enter your username and then the application specific password
Step 5 : In iChat preferences , you'll now see the google acc with greyed out username and password and a single option of Enable this account.
Step 6 : Now it should work

  • Ovi chat with Google talk account not seamless..

With a little bit of seraching related to the above topic i didn't find many threads related to this, so its worth starting a new one.
Everytime i open Software Update application on my 5800 i see this 'Ovi contacts 1.20' so updated to it few days back all went well and to my surprise it had an option to invite Google talk accounts too, i like somthing which comes along with the device so that we dont rely on third parties too much. I found that chatting is not that seamless, when i chat with someone the message i send is not reaching them instantly nor the one coming from the other end appears on my 5800(v40), suddenly 3 to 4 chat messages pop up, this is sort of annoying the entire purpose of Instant chat or messaging is defeated, even i did one more test , opended Nimbuzz and Ovi chat and initaited a chat, message i send from Ovi to Nimbuzz comes instantly and the reverse doesn't and suddenly 3 to 4 messages pop up.
So has anyone, using Ovi contacts, facing this and found anything please reply. I haven't tested with OVI-OVI conatcts hope atleast that works instantly.
    Thanks........

  • How to enable usage of Jabber (& Google Talk) accounts w/Parental Controls

    Hello all,
As someone who just spent a few hours trying to figure out how to get iChat in a Parental Controlled account to work with Jabber (and Google Talk) accounts, and seeing that there were no good solutions posted on these boards earlier, I just wanted to share a workaround which could potentially work for some people.
You can find the solution posted on my wiki: http://wiki.lensovet.net/EnableJabber_accounts_in_iChat_with_Parental_Controlledaccounts
Of course, the usual caveats apply: make sure you have a backup of all your data before you proceed, and I take no responsibility if things go awry. If you have any questions, please post them as replies to this thread.
Good luck! Hope you find this helpful.

    Hi,
The reason I ask is that in Snow Leopard you can Add the Jabber/Google account's Buddies to the Allow List and they will work.
In Leopard this cannot be done (The Parental Controls vary in this extent).
In either case Bonjour also does not work.
Can you confirm you can Enable your Bonjour Buddy List (even if you have no other Macs) ?
Some people may find it useful to use to call kids, via Bonjour, for Tea or Dinner but still use other features of the Parental Controls.

  • In Messages, is it possible to see when a person is typing for Google Talk account?

In Adium, when in a Google Talk account you can see when a person is typing with a little ... indicator, so you know to wait.
In Messages, that's also how it works with AIM chats - you see a chat bubble indicating the person on the other end is typing.
But in Messages, when in a Google Talk account I'm not seeing any such indicator, so I don't know whether to wait or if the person has simply gone away. Is it possible to get such an indicator in Google Talk inside Messages? If not, I'll just switch back to Adium.
    Thanks,
    doug

  • IChat can't connect to Google Talk

I can't get iChat to connect to Google Talk. I'm using iChat 5.0.3 (Snow Leopard, 10.6.8). I have a google account, but it is not a gmail account. My jabber id is my e-mail address (because that's what my google account is). The server is set to "talk.google.com", port is 5223, "Use SSL" is on. I get the following message "iChat can't log in to talk.google.com because your login ID or password is incorrect". I know they're both correct.
If I turn on "automatically find server and port", then the status goes to "connecting..." for quite a while and then says: "the operation couldn't be completed. Operation timed out"
So, if I had to guess, I'd say that a gmail account is required and this won't work with just a google account. Has anyone ever seen it work without a gmail account?

    Hi,
The Info at Google says it has to be a Gmail account (with Talk Enabled) to use in another client.
Other type of Google Accounts can do Talk on Google but have to do it on one of their Web pages.
The confusion seems to come from the fact this used to be possible (You changed the Server name in iChat to google.com after setting up a Jabber ID)

  • I keep getting a notification that says "Google Talk authentication failed"...does anyone know how to get rid of this?  I tried looking for it in the apps but not really sure what google talk is or how to get rid of this message that keeps popping up.

How do i get rid of the message that keeps popping up that says "google talk authentication failed"????

    funwidowlady,
Good afternoon!  I'm glad I can be here to help with this error. In the device this application is identified only as 'Talk', so that be more familiar to you. First I recommend opening the 'Market' app on your phone, then Menu>My Apps to see if this application requires an update. It will display a list on top of all applications that need to be updated. If nothing exists, tap 'Home' and go into 'Settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Talk, then tap 'Clear Cache' and 'Clear Data' to remove the history of that application and stop the notifications.  The app will remain on your phone for future use, if you desire to take advantage of it. Read more about Google Talk here
    Thank you!

  • My google talk account will not work with Jabber on iChat.

I have an iBook G4, I know I know. But when I try using my google account in iChat it just doesn't work. I have tried deleting it from the panel and re-entering it but I get the same result: 'Connection not connect to host xmpp.l.google.com'. Everything is on default. I have a feeling that it may be my wireless connection with my wireless modem, but that is just a hunch.
Any info that you need to help I will try to provide, just please help!

    Hi,
    The Host is "wrong".
In OS x 10.5.8 you should have iChat 4.0.8 or 4.0.9 (it depends if you have done a particular Security Update and also where you look up the iChat details)
This means that in Adding a new Account In iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts and clicking the + icon you should see several choices in the Drop down at the top item in the new pane that appears.
Above the line should be AIM, MobileMe and @mac.com
Below the line should be GoogleTalk and Jabber.
The reason GoogleTalk is separated like this is because Google do not conform to the Jabber Server naming method.
With all other Jabber server you create an [email protected]
So you would have [email protected] for example at Jabber Australia.
Your google ID could be [email protected] or username @gmail.com
Technically this could be two servers using the regular Jabber method.
    GoogleTalk's server is talk.google.com
In iChat 3 when Jabber was added to iChat you had to set this manually.
From iChat 4 onwards the software sorted it for you.
Go to iChat menu > Preferences > Accounts
Highlight the Jabber/Google ID and then click the Server Settings tab
If you are logged out the text should be dark and editable.
Change the Server name  to talk.google.com
Make sure SSL is enable and the port reads 5223
If in Doubt delete the Account (highlight and use the minus Button) and the re-add the account as GoogleTalk.

  • IChat using a Google Talk account shows XMPPErrorDomain error 6 when displaying buddy on iChat Server

My brother uses iChat with a GMail account. I run my own iChat Server (OS X 10.6.7) with XMPP federation (cachain entry in s2s.xml commented out so that Google federation works when a self-signed certificate for iChat Server). This worked fine in the past, but I had to reset a lot of things after a migration. One of those is that I now use a different domain for my iChat Server and iChat accounts.
After some initial problems, we can chat, video, everything. But his Buddy line for me shows "XMPPErrorDomain error 6" instead of my status. Any suggestions on what to do?

    Hi,
iChat Server is a bit outside what I known.
Luckily I know a man that does.
    https://discussions.apple.com/community/servers_enterprise_software/mac_os_x_ser ver_v10.6_snow_leopard
If you use the "Refine this List" option you will see that the "old" forum of "Collaboration services" is still there.
That will allow you to hone down to the iChat Server stuff (and some other things).
If you post a new Question you can tag it with iChat and "Collaboration Services'
This will make sure that Tim Harris sees it.

  • IChat can't connect to my google talk account anymore!

I have used iChat with my gtalk account for the better part of a year without any problems. My gmail password changed and now ichat won't connect. I try to login, and it starts to connect, and then a box pops up asking for my password. I enter the correct password, but it continues to say that it is incorrect. I have changed it multiple times now but it will not work. Help!

I'm having the same problem this morning--was able to connect to my gmail iChat yesterday, today it keeps insisting my credentials are incorrect even though I can access my gmail account directly with no problem.  What does "create application specific passwords through gmail" mean?

  • Ichat not adding AIM buddy - says server refused the request

    Hi,
I have problems adding an AIM buddy to ichat (v 4.0.8). I have tried several times and have the correct name but a window keeps popping up saying - AIM Error....server has refused this request. I have also tried this with the test appleu3test01 which also is AIM and it too comes up with this error message.
I have added a mac.com address with no problems at all.
I have tried deleting the .plist files mentioned in other ichat discussions and after re-starting ichat I still have the same problems.
    Can anyone help please?

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
In iChat 4 and earlier you have to specify the type of Buddy you are adding.
This mean choosing AIM to add AIM Buddies (@mac.com for @mac.com Buddies and MobileMe fo @Me.com Buddies)
There is not normally a Suffix (@anything) for AIM names - although their registration page is now allowing email Addresses as Screen Names (someone could have registered [email protected] for instance)
    See pic
It could be this contact is already in your Address Book
You can not Add someone who is already there. This does not seem likely for the Apple Test Account though.

    Hi acsmith4840,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you want to sign into the iTunes Store with another Apple ID. The article linked below will walk you through signing into the iTunes Store and App Store on your devices with a different Apple ID.

  • Cross AIM/Google Talk/.mac Chats?

With iChat, can someone with a Google Talk account chat to someone with a .mac account, and vice-versa? Or can you only chat to people using the same type of account as you?
For example, I have a Google Talk account. Can I add and chat with someone on AIM to my Buddy List?

The answer is really yes and no.
As a first option of Buddy List to Buddy List the answer is NO.
However the Jabber system that GoogleTalk uses can use what are called transports which allow the Jabber/Google Buddy list add names from other services.
In this way you could organise a AIM transport and then add @mac and AIM names to the Jabber Buddy list.
You would be able to Video chat to those Buddies that were on AIM or using a Google Screen name on iChat.
You can add MSN or Yahoo Buddies with a transport for those but you can not Video to them as the protocols used are different.
See the three links in this section
    http://ralphjohns.co.uk/page5.html#_jabber
This is how to set up the Jabber side, how to make transport work and a list of server that have transports.
