IChat not Recognizing MCX
I have an ODM running on a 10.6.4 XServe, and 10.6.4 client MacBooks running iChat 5.0.3.
In WGM, I set a Preference Manifest for iChat (com.apple.iChat.Managed) to auto-populate a Jabber account with the username@server info.
The client MacBooks receive the proper com.apple.iChat.Managed.plist file, but it seems to be ignored by the iChat client. When iChat is opened, the user is prompted to set up an account, and the account info specified in the MCX setting is not present.
I used an identical setup with 10.5.x server and clients without issue.
There is a similar thread I'm following here: http://www.afp548.com/forum/viewtopic.php?forum=18&showtopic=27096
Anyone else experiencing this?
In case anyone else is in the same boat, let me save you the trouble...
Yes, the 10.5 clients running iChat 4.0.8 will work just fine with the above listed configuration. The issue is with the iChat client (5.0.3) in OSX 10.6.
No, (afaik) you cannot replace the 5.0.3 client with the 4.0.8 client as a workaround. When you try to launch the application, it kicks back an error saying it cannot be run on 10.6.

Ichat not recognizing available buddy
for some reason one of my "buddies" is not being recognized. Their on my buddy list but remain shadowed. Even though I confirm on the phone that they are on the computer and available, ichat doesn't recognize their status as available. The same for my status on their computer. We have mutual buddies and we can both chat with the other friends but not with each other. Any help would be appreciated, is anyone else having this problem?
Hi,
Welcome to the Discussions.
Buddies can "Appear" Off-line for several Reasons
1) They are Off line (which you have eliminated )
2) You have Spelt their Screen Name incorrectly (AIM has no way of knowing if a Buddy's name is valid)
3) You have Allow Specific Buddies set on iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security and have not added them to the List.
3a) They have this (setting)
4) You have Been Blocked by them (this seems unlikely as you are Off Line to them)
5) One of you is set to Invisible (Again it does not explain both ends)
6) Really a variation on 2 plus 3 in that you have added them as a AIM name when they are MobileMe or @mac.com (Or they have) with the Allow Buddy list or Allow Specific people in use.
I would start with checking as much of this as possible.
Also get a mutual Buddy to start a Group Chat (File Menu > Go to Room and type in a Name for the room) and add bot of you.
You can then use "Show Participants" (View Menu) and drag him from the Participants Drawer to the Buddy List.

IChat not recognizing my built in iSight
I was video chatting with a friend of mine who was on the same wifi network as me, and all of a sudden the chat ended, and iChat said I can only audio chat. I went into the iChat pref. and it said, "This computer does not support video conferencing." This has never happened before, and I have always video chatted. Also, my "Internet Sharing" is not enabled. The FAQs and support discussions have not helped, and I'm hoping you guys might be able to. Thanks
my iMac 24" just did exactly the same thing yesterday....wednesday i used iChat with video just fine, thursday i installed the new software updates, and friday my imac tells me there is no camera in my computer...i attempted to shut it down and unplug every single cable - wait a few minutes - and plug it all back in....does not help. the ichat doesn't now actually log me off - as soon as i turned the computer on this morning (before the unplug attempt), and now tonight, the jabber bubble is dark in the top tool bar, before i even log in. HELP!!!

Isight not recognized by Skype, Google Video Chat, Logitech VID and ichat.
MacBook4,1 Firewire
Leopard 10.5.8
Skype 2.8.0.866
Quicktime Plug in 7.6.9
QUictime player MIA
Here is my story. I will try and make it as brief as possible.
The other day, I put a rented DVD into my dvd drive, and it didn't load. I checked for updates for Mac or quicktime. Nothing available. I did some googlin, and someone suggested I zap pram, repair permissions. I blindly obeyed. That didn't help. Then I messed around with quicktime. Not sure what I did. Finally, I had to download the latest version of VLC to watch my movie. I have no idea of my problems with QT have anything to do with my isight issues with Skype and the like, but I mentioned it just in case.
The next morning, when I went to skype, my video wasn't sending. I'm not sure if my chat partners video was working, we usually only do it one way. Me sending.
I checked to see if my video was working in photobooth. Indeed it was (and still does).
I have to date:
Downloaded the latest version of QT (7.6.9 for Leopard)- the web plug-in for watching QT online is installed and running properly.
After install, the QT player does not show up in applications, or anywhere else on the hard drive.
I Messed around with QT in ways I can't describe. Trying to install older versions, removing who knows what files. Installing again.
zapped PRAM
Cleared preferences for Skype by removing skype plist
download latest version skype
deleted all skype files I could find
reinstall Skype
repaired permissions (FIRST THING I DID)
Put your Mac to sleep
Wake the computer after it has gone to sleep.
Restart your Mac by by choosing the Apple
Shut down your Mac
Start up mac
Shutting down, disconnecting power supply, taking out batter, putting dumte mac together again
changed permissions on skype specifically to make sure all accounts were read/write
tried setting using skype with a new account
tried using skype, google video and logitech using wifi at my work
uninstalled PREY video security app plug in
removed and uninstalled divx
removed and uninstalled perian
Checked Preferences>Video show a black screen that says "No Video Camera Connected" and does not show ANY cameras in the video camera chooser drop down"
NOTE: Google Video Chat does show the isight cam, but a black screen. Logitech just has a black screen and asks "where in the interweb is your cam buddy?
I have searched and failed to find CamCamX5.component
Tested video in Google Chat and Logitech VID chat. built-in isight not recognized
Tested video in iChat - I chat crashed when opening. (i posted the crash report at the end of this post)
I'm sure I'm missing some.......
SOME THINGS I HAVE NOT YET TRIED
ROSETTA - in the Skype info pane, Rosetta is greyed out. I don't know if I have it, don't know where to get it. Don't know if I need.
Installing Skype while playing Stairway to Heaven backwards
Reset SMC or PMU
Done disk repair - I'm not sure how to do that, I used to have a disc for my old mac for that
Deleted iPhotoPhotocast and/or QuartzComposer.
Closing Firefox and starting Skype
install older version of skype

I know this is a lot of info. I hope I didn't miss anything. I use skype with three people. Three very important people. Two of which, meh, the video isn't important. ONe where the video option is paramount.
I'm just a little frustrated. Thanks in advance for any help.Hi,
We will come back to iChat if required.
It does prefer an Screen Name to be added as you go through the Start Up Screens (First Run) but you can click through these and just access the iChat > Preferences > Video Section to view a Preview.
I must admit to not seeing a Crash Log when the known chosen Mic/Audio Input has not been listed.
However if the External Audio was Firewire connected that may explain things.
NOTE:-
mAudio and other Firewire Audio Devices do tend to need the Most up-to-date drivers to work properly.
Sometimes it pays not to do a COMBO or other Software Update until you know the drivers are ready for it.
With any OS update above the 10.x.1 point will also have a COMBO version.
The COMBO then includes all the updated items between the base level OS and the latest Update.
So for 10.6 there is only what is called a Delta for 10.6.1
There is a delta (10.6.1 to 10.6.2 only) and a COMBO (10.6 to 10.6.2) for the next update and this is repeated through 10.6.6
The Deltas only include those things that are Updated on that occasion (As in the 10.6.1 to 10.6.2 example - 10.6.5 to 10.6.6 would not include the stuff in 10.6.4 or earlier)
COMBOs can be installed "Over-the-Top" of what you have already installed.
It is certainly needed when you Re-install something (Apple apps/Files etc) from the Install Disk you have when your OS has been updated beyond that point.
Some apps like iChat Get their Updates in the OS Updates and need to "Match" the progression.
The 10.5.8 COMBO (Your specs say 10.5.8) is Here
For others the 10.6.5 COMBO is here
and 10.6.6 COMBO IS here
<hr>
Quicktime.
The Download and Install should be all the parts of Quicktime.
Internet Plug-ins for Browsers, various System Files to make Quicktime work for other apps, various Components to play various formats and of course the Player itself.
The Player should be in the Applications Folder with this icon:-
The OS 10.6 version (Quicktime X has a big blue X icon)
If you mean it has disappeared from the DOCK you can Drag the Application back to the DOCK to make the icon (and link to app) again (The app stays in the Applications folder the OS just makes an icon and links it for you by doing this)
One of the biggest causes of many apps not working is turning Off/Disabling certain Fonts the apps need.
Follow the Link in this Users Tip by Kurt Lang. Make sure that the Correct System Fonts are ON.

Isght not recognized with ichat AV 3.1 (v417)
HI there,
My mom has an eMac with Tiger OS 10.4.3 and has ichat AV 3.1 (v417)
We have used the ichat AV often before. However, now it is not showing any video icon and we are not able to use the isights.
I went to iChat prefrences and under the video it says "There is no camera attached to this computer"
We haved updated all the software and I checked her isight on my G4 and it worked fine.
I thought that perhaps the firewire connection to her eMac might be damaged. However, I tried the isight in both of her firewire ports and it still was not recognized.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
CarolIf there is nothing in System Profiler - Hardware - firewire (Apple Menu - About this Mac - More Info), you could try a reset

Camera is not recognized after upgrade to Tiger !!!!
Hello,
I recently upgraded to Tiger and until now I had absolutely NO problems with FCE (J1.01). I just finsihed a project before upgrading to Tiger. Then today I was going to start a new project and now the camera (Sony Mini Dv Handycam) is not recognized even if is connected to my Firewire ports. I exchanged the connection between the ports and the same result.
Something more strange is that I though about checking it with the iChat AV application to see if it was a problem with the camera but iChat reports that the camera is being used by "other application". However I have no other application running and I cannot use it even for iChat.
Please, Please any help is greatly appreciatted. If I cannot use FCE then having my iMac makes no sense..
ThanksExcellent!!
your answer was exactly the solution for my problem,
a BIG Thank you, now everything is fine.
P.S. the thing that bothers me is that I searched Apple support site for some answer and I could not find this document !!! -
External webcam not recognized

Do you have a USB 2.0 port on that PowerBook ?

I purchase a webcam for my mac G5 with a usb connector, but the computer is not recognizing the device. If someone has knowledge of what I need to do or any software I can download to fix this issue, please let me know. Your Help will be gladly appreciated.
Thanx
JordanHi, and a Warm Welcome to Apple Discussions and the Power Mac G5 Forum!
Is the webcam recognised at all in Blue Apple menu > About This Mac > More Info > Hardware > USB (System Profiler)? It may be shown as 'USB Device'. If you connect and disconnect the webcam and then hit Command(Apple)-R(efresh), you should see if it is detected or not.
It seems many USB cameras do not have 'drivers' for OS X.
You could try
http://webcam-osx.sourceforge.net/
To use a USB cam with iChat there is
http://www.ecamm.com/mac/ichatusbcam/
which lists compatible cameras

USB Device for IPOD not recognized by Windows, whether ipod connected or no
During the past few days I have received a pop up error message from (I would think) Windows that the USB device is not recognized. I have the USB plug for the ipod connected (as always)but the ipod isn't even connected. It keeps popping up like every few seconds that the usb device is not recognized.
When I attach the ipod itself, the ipod is recognizing it because it powers up. But, it took 10 times just to get the ipod to recognize through itunes. It updated, then immediately upon completion, windows again starting giving repeated error messages that the usb device wasn't recognized.
I have downloaded the newest itunes but I had it on my system for 4 days with no problems whatsoever. I don't think that's it. No other system changes.
I've deleted my temp files and cache. Also did a "disk clean up" and "defrag." It's still doing it.
Any suggestions?I'm having the same problem. Ever since I upgraded to version 7, iTunes & my PC no longer recognise my iPod, and it therefore won't sync.
It's not the USB port (other devices work in it), I rebooted my iPod and re-installed iTunes, I've tried stopping and starting the iPod Service (but can't see my iPod in My Computer). When I run the Diagnostics it says iPod connection failed. I've even bought a new USB cable but that doesn't work either.
This is driving me up the wall. Is there a glitch with iTunes 7?
Can anyone help me out?? Thanks

Aio Remote: PDFs not recognized by Google drive.
Aio Remote on iPad Air2 iOS 8.1.1 - I created a PDF on my iPad from my HP Envy 7640 using Aio remote app. In the files/document section it's there (3 pages) as a PDF. But when I upload a copy from Aio Remote to Google Drive it's not recognized by Google Drive as a PDF even though it has a PDF extention. I have other PDF files stored in Google drive that are perfectly fine. It must be something in your app that is the problem.
More info: if I send it from Aio remote as an email attachment to myself I get a PDF that I can upload to Google drive and Google drive reconizes it as a PDF. again proving it is Aio remote that is doing some thing wrong when uploading to Google Drive.

I recently upgraded to ios7 and now my PC is not recognizing my iphone
I am having several problems. I recently upgraded to ios7 and now my PC (Windows 7) is not recognizing my iphone. 1) I am getting an error message when itunes opens: "Itunes could not connect to the iphone because it is locked with a passcode. You must enter your passcode on the iphone before it can be used with itunes." How did it get locked and how do I unlock it without losing my data? What do they mean by passcode? I don't have a 4-number code to get into my iphone activated. In fact, I've never had a passcode.
2) I cannot download my photos from my iphone onto my computer because my computer doesn't recognize my iphone. In other words, my iphone does not show up on my computer (no iphone icon, no DCIM folder).
3) This is a separate issue but it is also very confusing: I went online to check my iCloud and I cannot see any data (icloud.com). But I know that I set up iCloud when I upgraded to ios7 and it backs up my data every night. What am I doing wrong, am I unable to see my data and photos?
Why is this happening? It was bad enough that when I upgraded to ios7, I lost my Notes - I have no idea why they didn't return. But now essentially my iphone is not recognized when connected to my computer and this is very frustrating. I have read numerous previous postings regarding downloading photos onto the PC and regarding this passcode error and cannot find a resolution, so I would appreciate any help.No problem!
This will make it easy for you:

A new problem with CS5 forced me to download PScc but the problem is still there. I am getting tmp00000001 in photo merge when importing multiple files from inside PS and if trying from bridge I am getting a pop up box telling me I need to select more than 1 file. Photoshop potomerge is not recognizing my selections from bridge..!! please help.. my knowledge of computers is a 3 on a scale of 1-10
if i run this particular code
( SELECT
AccountDetails.CUSTOMERNUMBER, AccountDetails.ACCOUNTNUMBER, CUSTOMERDETAILS.CDTITLE, CUSTOMERDETAILS.CDFIRSTNAME, CUSTOMERDETAILS.CDLASTNAME, AccountDetails.ACCOUNTTYPE,
AccountDetails.ORIGINALCONTRACTENDDATE, AccountDetails.CONTRACTTERM, AccountDetails.CONTRACTENDDATE, AccountDetails.BRANCHAREA, AccountDetails.PRODUCTTYPE,
AccountDetails.HOUSEBANKACCOUNT, AccountDetails.CARMODEL, AccountDetails.CARLICENCE, AccountDetails.ARREARSBALANCE, AccountDetails.CODEBTOR, AccountDetails.GUARANTORNUMBER
FROM AccountDetails

WHERE Dcaaccountallocation.dcaid = 41
AND Dcaaccountallocation.status = 2
AND DebtEpisodes.DCASentDate IS NULL
AND Dcaaccountallocation.ACCOUNTID = AccountDetails.ACCOUNTNUMBER
AND DebtEpisodes.DCAORLAWYER = 'DCA'
This returns 1 row of data
However if i run a small part of the above code...
SELECT *
FROM Dcaaccountallocation
JOIN DebtEpisodes ON DebtEpisodes.ACCOUNTID = Dcaaccountallocation.ACCOUNTID
WHERE Dcaaccountallocation.dcaid = 41
AND Dcaaccountallocation.status = 2
It returns a lot of rows with a status of 2
Now i presume what I am going to do is to ensure that all the fields provide satisfactory requirements, with regards to the above code. Although I have many records in all the stated tables already.

IPod nano does not charge & is not recognized by computer or iTunes
I have a 1st generation nano 1 GIG.
It appears "dead."
It is not recognized by My Computer, iTunes or the Ipod Updater (The updater asks that I connect the iPod, which I do). The iPod diagnostics through iTunes also reports that my iPod is not connected.
I have tried my iPod on 4 different machines, with one of them having USB 2.0.
I tried the following from Jeff Bryan. (I don't know if the links from his post have carried over into this post.) So I will list the things I have tried near the end of this post.
- My iPod won't turn on.
- iPod battery doesn't charge.
- iTunes 7 doesn't recognize the iPod.
- Your Windows PC doesn't recognize iPod.
- iPod appears in Windows Explorer but does not appear in iTunes.
- iPod does not appear in iTunes.
- Fast user switching in Windows XP is not supported.
I tried resetting my iPod by switching the Hold button on and off and then pressing Menu and the Select button for 6-10 seconds. I have done this over and over and over.
I have uninstalled the latest iTunes, reboot, reinstall - same problem.
I have stopped the iPod service, plugged in the iPod, but it isn't recognized by My Computer as stated in the Apple Do-It-Yourself Help. I launched iTunes - same problem.
I used the window cleanup utility, reboot, reinstall iTunes, connect iPod - same problem.
I have used the Windows ipconfig utility to change my boot parameters, but still nothing.
If anyone has any ideas, I would greatly appreciate them.
My iPod is just shy of 6 months.
I do have a replacement contract with Best Buy - but I would like to cover all the bases before I succumb to defeat.
Thanks

Iphone not recognized by windows or itunes
Can anyone please help me figure out how to resolve this issue? My iphone 4 is not recognized by my PC. My OS is by Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2. I tried the various "device not recognized" troubleshooting to no avail. I tunes is up to date. I even turned off my security sw for a bit to see if there was a third party conflict...all to no avail. There has got to be someone out there who has the smarts to show me how to fix this. Please advise and many thanks in advance!
Jason,
I understand why Apple doesn't cover the water damaged phones under the warranty, but do you know why they don't fix them if the customer is paying? Is it just because they want the people to buy another phone so they can make more money? I guess I just don't get it.
The cost to repair a device and all of its components is more than the cost of a new device.
Other than the article I linked above, this is the part of the warranty/legal forms that would apply:
+"US v1.0+
+Apple reserves the right to refuse+
+service on products that have serial numbers altered, defaced or removed or that are damaged due to+
+accident, abuse, neglect, misuse (including faulty installation, repair, or maintenance by anyone other+

+(including extreme temperature or humidity), extreme physical or electrical stress or interference,+
+fluctuation or surges of electrical power, lightning, static electricity, fire, acts of God or other external+

5th Gen Ipod not recognized by windows or itunes. Have tried it all. Any Ideas?
Hello everyone. I have a 5th generation Ipod I recently purchased that I'm having what seems to be an common issue. When I connect the ipod to my computer via USB, the Ipod is not recognized in windows or Itunes. Occasionally the Ipod will charge when connected but not always. Though this is the same for the old wire I used and the new one I purchased today. Even when shown charging the Ipod is not recognized and there is no noise that a device has been connected. I have tried the 4 R's (without Restore) which I can't do, chaninging the drive letter, disabling start up software, uninstalling and reinstalling all Apple Software. I have tried connecting to another computer and have gotten the same result. When I check the diagnostic screen on the ipod it shows that a usb cable is detected. I have upgraded all my driver software, disabled and reenabled them. I'm almost 3 hours from the nearest store so that it out of the question. I'm curious if anyone has any other ideas and will try anything you think might be the issue and fix. Thank you for time.
From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes. Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue. To update or not to update? And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista. My workflow dictates 32b fyi. One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126), 5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day. My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12) Windows mounts it just fine. itunes is not having it. no shirt no shoes no service.
I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano. The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad! Weird huh? I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
I'm at a loss on the thinkpad. Scanned for intruders. Cut the Lenovo bloat. Executed system and reg maintenance. Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail. NO NO NO. Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad. Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update. :|
So in summary for me:
5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^ last working version for me = 11.0.1
5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0 but no way in the world am I updating
4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?
