IChat not seeing Camera

Hello,
I need some help here please, I just picked up a new Canon ZR400 Camera and it works great with yahoo as it sees it as a DV cam iMovie sees the cam but iChat does not,
IS there something that i need to do? or is the cam not supported, or do I need to upgrade to Tiger I'm only running a iBook G3 700 Mhz with 640 of Ram and OS 10.3.9.

Hi Beaker,
I am not sure on how fast your G3 is.
The min is G3/600 for 1-1 video chats.
Also despite being a firewire connection not all cameras actually send out out DV signals. I can get my DV converter to send Analogue (PAL TV) signals to the computer.
(Might pay to check any options on the cam)

Essentially she needs to do the Tuning and the Firewall for the XP computer.
On the AIM application the pic can not be made bigger.
There is Trillian which cost $25 for the Pro version to do Video chats but it will allow for bigger pic s and will do full screen.

Capture / FCP does not see camera

I just upgraded to Final Cut Pro 4.0 from Final Cut Express 2.0. and Upgraded to Tiger. The program does not see my camera attached via firewire, though it is seen in system settings. The program crashes when I chose file/capture. I deleted preferences and capture still won't work. Any ideas?

You can't just upgrade to QT7 for some reason..you have to do some other trickery to get it to recognize your camera.
Again, found by simple search:
1. Navigate to Library -> Receipts on your main drive (not from your personal folder).
2. Remove all files of the form QuickTime*.pkg, where "*" is a version number. E.g. QuickTime600.pkg, QuickTime650.pkg, Quicktime700.pkg and QuickTime701.pkg. This simply tells your system that those packages are not installed.
3. Go to http://www.apple.com/quicktime/downloads and click on the "download Quicktime" link. DO NOT USE THE AUTOMATIC UPDATE UTILITY. Download QuickTimeInstallerX.dmg. Double click this file (probably on your desktop) and then invoke the installer by double clicking QuickTime701.pkg.
4. After your computer reboots, you should be able to restart FCE and see your camera.

Skype does not see camera

Skype does not see the camera any more. I think it was working before - camera works fine with facetime, etc.
I installed recently ESET - could that be it?

Understood. That is what i do whenever I can. In fact, I always use Apple apps if they can do the job.

IPhoto not seeing camera, only in my account

Hello all, I had recently started having a problem with our old Sony camera where when I plugged it in it would launch iPhoto, and that was it. It did show up as a mass storage device, but iPhoto wouldn't import unless I did it manually. I figured it was the camera, as it had other issues from being dropped.
So today I bought a new Canon PowerShot A590. So I plug that in and... same thing. So I try Image capture, and that doesn't see it either. So I install the Canon software, and that works.
Then I tried my wife's iBook running Tiger, and both iPhoto and Image Capture saw the camera. So then I went back to my G4 and logged in as root, which I only use for trouble shooting. iPhoto launched and saw thew camera and asked to import the photos. I tried repairing permission, deleting pref files, etc, to no avail. Also, since the Canon doesn't mount, I can't do a manual import.
Anyone have any ideas?

First off, I have four apple computers; three running 10.4.11 and one, a new 2.8ghz MacBook Pro, running 10.5.5. The Canon 750 Elph is two months old. From the beginning it has connected to my desktop DP 2.5ghz G5 PPc, my 12" 1.5ghz G4 Powerbook (both running 10.4.11) and now the MacBook Pro. It would not connect to my wife's 17" 1.33ghz G4 Powerbook running 10.4.11. System Prefs identified the Elph connected to the usb high speed bus so I knew that the usb ports were operational. Image Capture stated; No camera connected. As always, all updates had been performed and permissions run. I trashed iPhoto '08 along with its prefs and all iPhoto receipts. I then reinstalled iPhoto '08 and ran permissions. Still no connection. It was time for Apple Discussions. I followed a thread from some weeks ago to try rebuilding the iPhoto library. I saved and rebuilt. No connection. My apologies for not remembering the user in the thread who stated that a reinstall of the last OSX combo update might do the trick. He was speaking of the 10.5.5 combo update so I figured it should be the same for the 10.4.11 combo. I did not know that you could install an update over the existing OS which has already been updated. I am always learning. BINGO! The Elph connected immediately. Thanks to APPLE DISCUSSIONS, I still have a bit of hair left and a wife who loves me. I hope maybe this post will save the hair of someone else.

HT4101 Mini i-pad does not see camera

My camera connects successfully to my i-pad but my mini i-pad does not appear to recognise when I attach the same camera. Any suggestions?

If your device is not recognized, verify it is configured correctly:
iPad Camera Connector supports Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) and Mass Storage Device protocol. Try both settings.

IPhoto not seeing camera pictures

When hooking up my camera to my computer, iPhoto recognizes it but on the import screen displays "no photos to import." However the Sd card in the camera does in fact have pictures on it (413 to be exact). I've even tried importing the pictures via image capture but the "no pictures to import" prompt appears. Any ideas to help with offloading the pictures would be greatly appreciated.

Iphoto does not see camera

I recently ran updates on all iLife suite. When a camera is connected now iPhoto starts up but does not recognize that there are photos on the camera to be uploaded. To make matters worse I cannot find a way within the software to tell it to go look at the camera (import).
I've tried a couple different cameras (low and high end) and a couple different machines, same outcome.

It's 6.0.6. I mention the upgrades as we installed all all Apple software updates that were issued since last fall over the summer. We re-image the labs once a year, as as long as everything is running OK do not run updates during the school year.
I've been tinkering and the Adminstrative log in group sees the camera in iPhoto. It's the student groups that have trouble so it has something to do with privileges.
Perhaps I need to post in another forum to get help with that?

Iphoto not seeing iPhone4S

iPhoto not seeing camera roll on iphone 4S. Have turned on Photo Stream because when iPhone is plugged into iMac, it no longer shows up as a device in iPhoto. How do I get the pics from phone to iPhoto. It will show any pictures taken after enabling PhotoStream on my phone, but not pictures on "camera roll."

If you have iCloud enabled there's no need to connect the iPhone to the iMac. Photos, apps, music, etc syncs via your Wi-Fi network.
Try switching Photo Stream off then back on in Settings > iCloud then reset your iPhone.
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
And restart your iMac.

Aperture does not recognize camera card.

Aperture does not see camera card iin card reader connected to a USB port, although I can see the card both in iPhoto and with Finder. When I plug it in it shows very briefly in Aperture and then dissapears. This is something new as I have used the software, card and card reader for a couple years and had no porblems. Aperture sees all the other components of the system, including external drives, but only briefly (1 second) the card reader.

If after reformatting the card you still have problems to see your camera in in Aperture you may have a problem with the "Preferences" file.
Remove the file "com.apple.Aperture.plist" from the "Preferences" folder in your User Library, as described in Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3805; don't delete the file, just remove it to the Desktop, so you can put it back, if it does not help, for after removing the Preference file all settings will be reset to their default setting.

P.S. How do you delete the images from the card, if you do not format the card to erase them? It is not save to let any imaging software on your computer do that, that may corrupt the file system on the card. Your camera knows best how to delete the images.

Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?

Ok, the issue seem to be solved. The problem was this:
The many hundred files (raw and xmp per image) have been downloaded by ftp in no specific order. Means - a couple of files in the download queue - both raw and xmps. Most of the time, the small xmp files have been finished loading first and hence the "last change date" of these xmp files was OLDER than the "last change date" of the raw file - Lightroom then seem to ignore the existence of the xmp file and does not read it during import.(a minute is enough to run into the problem)
By simply using the ftp client in a way that all large raw files get downloaded first followed by the xmp files, we achieved that all "last changed dates" of the xmp files are NEWER than the related raw files. (at least not older)
And then LR is reading them and all metadata information has been set / read correctly.
So this is solved.

HT4101 I have a NIKON COOLPIX P500 but am unable to download photos through the IPad camera connection kit. I have tried to use the Sandisk card also - no result. Any suggestions? The Ipad does not "see" the card or camera?

I have a Nikon Coolpix P500 but am unable to download photos from it to my iPad2 via the iPad Camera Connection kit. The iPad does not see either the Sandisk 8GB card or the Nikon camera. I have turned the camera on, but it seems that the camera just want to recharge its battery through the iPad as the iPad states that the devices draws too much power?? Anybodu solved this problem yet? Advise please?

One thing to check is the format that the camera is saving pics to the card in. Many are selectable and, in most cases, if PTP is one of the options then you need to have that one selected for the files to be visible to iOS and the CCK (connection kit).
Another thing which sometimes comes up, especially with older cameras and therefore probably not with yours, is the filenaming conventions used by the camera. iOS is quite strict about what it expects to see and if files are being stored with unsupported name formats then they simply won't be seen at all.
