IChat not working after leopard install

I installed leopard yesterday and have found yet another problem. Has anyone experienced the following?
I can open iChat. I can view the contact window and check visuals/microphones etc
However i cant:
Add/Delete contacts - and there are no contacts availible so i can talk to anyone
Access toolbar - On every menu in the tool bar every option is faded - such as buddies/format - so i cant select anything from there
I can effectivly sit and stare at myself. Which is only fun for like the first 5 mins.

Hi,
I am going to ask you to recall as clearly as possible what you did at these steps
http://www.siriusaddict.com/ichat.html
These are the Start up Screens.
They tend to presume you are going to set up a AIM or @mac name before setting up a Jabber one.
Did you set up an AIM or @mac name first ?
Did you click through those screens and then do it in iChat > Preferences ?
Please detail as much as you can remember.
In the iChat menu > Accounts is the Jabber account/screen name Logged in ?
In the Address Book doe your My Card now have the Jabber Screen name added to the info ?

  • ISight Camera not working after Leopard install

On my 1st gen Intel 20" iMac, after the Leopard upgrade -- which went very smoothly -- my iSight camera no longer works. I have tried it in Photo Booth and iChat Video and it is the same in each, so it is the camera, apparently, not the application using it.
In the self-viewing screen on my iMac, I see myself for just a second or so, then I fade out quickly and there is nothing to see but black. If I shine a desk lamp in my face, then I can just barely see the outline of my image but the picture is mostly black. It seems like an exposure problem: the camera seems to adjust, shutting down as though I am very brightly lit but since I am not, it produces only a black picture.
I also have a 1st gen Intel white MacBook that I have also upgraded to Leopard. The iSight camera seems to work just fine on that computer. I tried out the video in Photo Booth and it worked great.
    Any ideas?

    Hi,
I too am having the same problem, and I'm using the old school iSight camera and immediately after installing Leopard, it won't work. I can't even power up the camera. It will power up for about 3 seconds then power down as fast as the little green light came on. It was fine about an hour before the 10.5 install. I powered down and unplugged everything for about 10 mins. then plugged it all back in, and still not working. So I am back to the drawing board trying to sort this out. If anyone has anymore thoughts on this, pls. chime in. All the suggestions seem to work for you folks after a little tweak. I even booted into OF mode and reset-nvram and reset-all for kicks to give it an even fresher start.
    thanks!

  • Canon MP 600 Printer not working after Leopard Install

I installed the Leopard OS and now my Canon MP 600 printer that purchased at the MAC store with my Mac in Aug of this year. It was working properly prior to the Leopard install. I tried re-installing the printer drivers, but no change. I can see my MP 600 as the only printer available. I am also unable to even print a 'test' page. When I run the Network Diagnostics everything is fine, but no printing.
    Any suggestions?

I tried this. I also tried updating the CUPS config file as was noted elsewhere. The printer is a total no-show on Leopard.
It is being served by an older G4 whose only job is to serve the printer.
On Tiger it would just *be there* to print to. All the Panther computers see it as a "shared printer" in the printer box.
In Leopard.... not a &^^&% thing.
    Not happy.

Are you using a gimp driver? I had the same issue and gimp was the cause. I went to the Canon website and found the driver I needed. After the install and restart all was well. In fact, when I opened Print Utility, I saw that the system had already defaulted to the new Canon driver. Here's the Canon link...

  • Photo Booth not working after Leopard install

I have a mac mini and a ViewSonic VX2235wmb (LCD with a usb web cam built in). Before installing Leopard, the web cam worked with iChat and Photo Booth, without the need for any additional drivers. After installing Leopard, iChat works, but not Photo Booth. Here's what I get when I open the app:
    http://www.davidsilva.net/photobooth.png
I've tried the 3rd party driver apps, but I get the same results. Any suggestions?

I have the exact same problem with the ViewSonic VX2255wmb (LCD with a usb web cam built in).
On Leopard it works fine with iChat, but does the same squiggly mess as your snapshot when run with Photo Booth.

  • IMac LCD not working after Leopard install

So I have a family pack and installed leopard on three computers so far and they all took forever, so I went to install on my iMac G4 1.25, 1 gig RAM, and I got the install started and when I returned the screen was black. I restarted and nothing. I finally got the computer hooked up to a plasma I have at my house and sure enough the install went just fine. Long story short, my comp is just fine, the LCD just doesn't show anything. The vid card is fine if it shows up on an external monitor, the LCD is connected and functioning because I can adjust the brightness and that still works, just no video
I called AppleCare and was on the phone for, no joke, 1:37:39, WOW, took forever, the guy ended up telling me that it is out of warranty and I need to pay to have it fixed. Anyone have any ideas or what to do?

Anyone have this similar problem? or know what I need to do?

  • Security and privacy system preferences not working after Lion install.  What to do?

Security and privacy system preference not working after Lion install.  Not sure if it happen with Lion installer or after updating. What to do?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then either copy or drag it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
When you launch Terminal, a text window will open with a line already in it, ending either in a dollar sign (“$”) or a percent sign (“%”). If you get the percent sign, enter “sh” (without the quotes) and press return. You should then get a new line ending in a dollar sign.
    Step 1
Copy or drag — do not type — the line below into the Terminal window, then press return:
    kextstat -kl | awk '!/com\.apple/{printf "%s %s\n", $6, $7}'
Post the lines of output (if any) that appear below what you just entered (the text, please, not a screenshot.) You can omit the final line ending in “$”.
    Step 2
    Repeat with this line:
    sudo launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.(apple|openssh|vix)|edu\.mit|org\.(amavis|apache|cups|isc|ntp|postfix|x)/{print $3}'
This time, you'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up. You don't need to post the warning.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
    Step 3
    launchctl list | sed 1d | awk '!/0x|com\.apple|edu\.mit|org\.(x|openbsd)/{print $3}'
    Step 4
    ls -1A /e*/mach* {,/}L*/{Ad,Compon,Ex,Fram,In,Keyb,La,Mail/Bu,P*P,Priv,Qu,Scripti,Servi,Spo,Sta}* L*/Fonts 2> /dev/null
Important: If you synchronize with a MobileMe account, your me.com email address may appear in the output of the above command. If so, anonymize it before posting.
    Step 5
osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to get name of every login item' 2> /dev/null
Remember, steps 1-5 are all drag-and-drop or copy-and-paste, whichever you prefer — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
    You can then quit Terminal.

The App store has stopped working after a clean install of OS X Snow Leopard. The get/install buttons go grey after I've clicked on them then nothing....

  • Remote not working after Leopard update

I've read about, and have the problems reported with Front Row when it comes to viewing content on another (TV) screen, but does anyone share my problem about the remote control not working at all?
This morning before I upgraded to Leopard it worked fine, but since then, no matter which button I press, nothing happens at all.
I've to launch Front Row manually, either by launching the new app, or the CMD Esc command, but the 'Menu' button on the remote doesn't do anything.
It certainly isn't an issue with the remote as my iPod still responds to the commands when it is sat in the iPod Dock that has the remote receiver on it.

To provide closure on this thread, I now have it working!
Got all the ideas from the iSight thread listed above, here's what I did.
Firstly, shut down the computer, disconnected everything from the back of it, gave it a dust around the back of the iMac, blew out the cobwebs so to speak.
Left it ten minutes, made myself a drink.
Returned and restarted the computer, but applying the reset PRAM command, which is after switching on immediately hold down the Command, Option, P and R keys.
You'll hear a second chime, release the keyboard and the computer will boot up.
Once everything had loaded, I launched iSight and lo and behold, there was my ugly mug staring back at me, iSight was once again working.
I then proceeded to the System Preferences to see if I could get the remote working. There was the IR instructions at last including details on how to pair the remote.
Pointing my remote to the screen I held down the Menu and Next/FFWD button until a chain and the remote symbol appeared on the screen.
With my remote paired with my iMac, everything was finally working again after two days of installing Leopard, Tiger and the Leopard again!
Now Apple, how about sorting out Front Row working properly when pictures are DV'd out to a TV!??
