IChat not working since Leopard upgrade

Using a 2GHz iMac. Trying to connect to my brother's 2 GHz (running 10.4) Macbook. Used to work fine. Since upgrading to 10.5 earlier this week, I keep getting messages such as "There was a communication error during your chat" "Did not receive a response from........etc.", and never actually get through.
The iMac's on a wireless network, - an airport extreme and an airport express, bridged together to extend the range.
I've had a look at the other similar problems on the discussions board, tried changing the network port settings, turning off internet sharing, changing the Quicktime streaming speed, but no luck.
Anyone have any similar issues, or better, any solutions? Not much point giving me the ability to change the background in iChat, if nobody but me can see it!

Depends on how the Tiger person has ports open in their routing device.

Says it does everything on one port but starts at the top of the range listed in the first Doc and then moves down oly if the others are busy or do not work And this is limited to 10 ports.
Now some devices can only Port Forward. On top of that some of those can only Port Forward 20 ports and the Tiger list is from 29 ports and on two protocols which can mean 31 entries.
These users have been managing 1-1 chats on the lower ports fine by missing out setting certain ports they don't need like Bonjour and /or Jabber and possibly some of the top end of the group of twenty.
Jabber and Bonjour can be a total of 7 entries and therefore is used significantly cut into the group of twenty.
This leaves a potential gap between iChat 3 and iChat 4 in certain circumstances.

    In Previous versions iChat was set up to automatically change the Server Name fro AIM logins when starting or turning Off SSL.  (it tended to look like the leading "s" appeared or disappeared).
    IT Changed from login.oscar.aol.com to slogin.oscar.aol.com
    There are suggestions that this does not happen now.
    It is not known if this is done deliberately for "Security" or an error in the Update file.

  • Dvd player does not work after Leopard upgrade

    I installed Leopard, had to upgrade because my printer died and no printers now work with Tiger.  Since the upgrade, my DVD player does not work.  I have problems burning some cd's too.  Is this a known issue?  What is the fix?

    I have read a couple of complaints like that, but not sure it's widespread.

    After installing, reboot holding down CMD+s, (+s), then when the DOS like prompt shows, type in...
    applejack AUTO
    Then let it do all 6 of it's things.
    At least it'll eliminate some questions if it doesn't fix it.
    The 6 things it does are...
    Correct any Disk problems.
    Repair Permissions.
    Clear out Cache Files.
    Repair/check several plist files.
    Dump the VM files for a fresh start.
    Trash old Log files.
    First reboot will be slower, sometimes 2 or 3 restarts will be required for full benefit... my guess is files relying upon other files relying upon other files! :-)
    Disconnect the USB cable from any Uninterruptible Power Supply so the system doesn't shut down in the middle of the process.
    If that does NOT help, Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
    Then move these files to the Desktop...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    Reboot & test.
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.
    If that does NOT help then I suspect the optical drive or media itself, or possibly just needs a cleaning CD run on it.

  • Full-Text Search has not worked since we upgraded to 2012

    I have a filestream database and table. Our full-text searches have always worked until we upgraded to SQL 2012 in December.  Now, no file that has been uploaded since December is searchable.  What has gone wrong here.  It should have been
    a clean upgrade.  We are not getting any error messages.  We are just not getting any records returned when we search on a word that we know are in the documents we've uploaded since December (for instance, the word 'aluminum'). 
    Filestream is enabled for the instance.
    A full-text catalog exists and contains a full-text index (the same one we've always had).  Full-text indexing is ENABLED.
    I've tried rebuilding the catalog and the index.  I've tried to do a FULL POPULATION on the table.
    We haven't changed our queries nor the way the files are uploaded.
    Nothing works.  I have been a database administrator since the SQL 2005 days and I have never seen anything like this.

    According to your description, in theory , if you can do a full-text search for SQL Server 2008, when upgrading the SQL Server version from 2008 to 2012, the Full text indexing feature should be run well in SQL Server 2012 databases. If not , you can try
    to restore your database from SQL Server 2008 to SQL Server 2012, create an new Full-Text Catalog and Index on the table or view in the database, and then use Full Text Index to search words, phrases and multiple forms of word or phrase via FREETEXT() and
    CANTAINS() with “and” or “or” operators.  check if it is normal that the full-text search feature is enabled in the SQL Server 2012 instance. For more information , see:

    Note:  In SQL Server 2012 SP1 ， the server will report that Full Text Search is not supported in this edition of SQL Server when it clearly is. The workaround is to create the initial catalog by using a T-SQL query:

  • Canon LBP5000 does not work after Leopard Upgrade

    Hi all,
    We have a Canon LBP5000 that is directly connected to one of our iMac's and worked like a charm when we were using Tiger. After upgrading to Leopard, everything went weird. It is still installed but when we tried printing, we get a 'Load Paper' warning from the printer. After checking to make sure that the default paper was all in A4 format it still wouldn't print. We then tried hooking it up to an Airport Express to share and while trying to add it via Bonjour, an Error 9672. We're seriously looking at getting a new clour laser printer that works with Leopard as at this point in time, there is yet to be found a driver from Canon that works with Leopard. Any suggestions of colour laser printers that work with Leopard or solutions to our problems ?

    I did look and googled the drivers but the European site has outdated ones. We were actually using Japanese drivers CAPT (Ver. 1.60) for Tiger but it doesn't work now for Leopard. PJB, thanks for pointing out your post and I had a run through the Japanese site but it's all in Japanese
    Anyway, I basically used common sense and updated the CAPT to (Ver. 1.61) but it still doesn't work after installing it. Every time I try to print or so a test print, the progress went Printing to Stopped.
    When we click Resume it doesn't do anything and after 4 clicks, there was a short 'Fatal: Failed to load module' message pops up in the Print Queue dialog box. Has anyone actually have a Canon LBP 5000 printer that has worked with Leopard ? That is my question really...sigh.

  • Firefox is not working since the upgrade to 6.0.2. Why?

    On thursday sept. 8th, Firefox upgraded to 6.0.2. Since Friday morning when I turned on my computer I have not been able to open Firefox at all. I can use IE with no problem. I went to technical support and followed the instructions on what to do and I still can't connect. The internet connection is working fine. I have Windows Vista. I also went to Add-ons and all the add ons are disabled because they are not compatible with FF 6.0.2. I been a customer of FF for a very long time and I have never had any problems with the upgrades until this newest one. No errors come up it just says Problem Loading Page. Can someone please tell me what is going on and how to fix it. Thank you

    Since upgrading to IO7 on my ipad 4 retnia display, my SD card reader to lightning adpater is not recoginzed.
    no warranty on ipad anymore. 
    would I have to pay for a geinies appointment for this?

  • HDMI output not working since firmware upgrade

    I would appreciate troubleshooting tips for getting the HDMI output to work. I just tried it recently for the first time in a long while, approximately 4 weeks after doing the firmware update to 2.2. When I did it before, plugging in the HDMI cable would automatically start output to my HD TV. Now that is no longer the case. Changing the HDMI output from "Auto" to "720p" does not make a difference either.
    Otherwise, everything works well and I've been satisfied with my Creative 7 to date. I have installed several apps so it could be that there is a conflict and nothing related to the firmware upgrade.
    Any troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated.

    Well I've received my refurbished device for about a week now. The HDMI still doesn't work either with Zii Video or a 3rd party app MoboPlayer. ?I am tempted to reinstall the firmware upgrade again. Is it ok to try this or is it only a one time attempt?
    Perhaps this should be a separate thread but are any of the "Phone 2 SD" apps compatible with the Ziio 7? Whenever I use the "Move to SD card" option, there is still no program moved to the external SD card. ?I have a Ziio 7 with 6 GB of memory as well as a 6GB micro SD card. ?My memory settings are:
    - SD Card: total space - 5.43GB; Available space - 5.43GB
    - Device media storage: Total space - 2.48GB; Available Space - 2.3 GB
    - System storage: Total Space - .97 GB; Available space - .59GB
    In Settings>Applications>Manage Applications, the "On SD Card" tab lists several programs lists several apps but none of them are actually on the external SD card.

    Hi, I installed te ichat update which was sent to my computer a few weeks ago and since then ichat has been failing. one error message is not enough bandwidth. This has never happened before. That was one error message. The other four errors were more general.

    Have you set your Quicktime streaming setting on both ends, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps(dont use automatic)
    In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to NONE.
    Restart iChat.

    Has anyone had trouble with Caller Id on the IOS6 upgrade on and iPhone 4s??

    Upgrading to any version of iOS does not break Caller ID.
    Maybe it would help if you clearly identified what is actually occuring.
    Does the number show up for not the contact name?  If so, sync your contacts back to the device.
    If the number is not showing up and it's not blocked, contact your carrier.

    Try restarting with your drive plugged in. I have a very old 100GB seagate drive and it has been working fine for me so I assume yours would too.

  • 'Fetch' email slow or not working since os4 upgraded

    Having upgraded to the new iphone os4, I have had issues regarding 'fetch' email messages. Simply, I have "fetch' enabled for three email accounts set to 'every 15 mins' but I only get new emails when I go into email and iphone checks for new mail. Eg. I had a colleague send me a message at 14.54 but I manually checked my email at 17.05 and the message only then came through.
    It should have 'fetched' that mail very soon after it was sent and left a red number 1 showing on the mail icon. Did it again later the same day..
    Btw my phone also decided to shut down twice during a phone call at the weekend.
    I use my phone for getting important client mail when I'm out and about so could miss important/urgent info or job requests..
    Anyone had same?
    Is there a fix?

    I had a similar problem, as I wasn't receiving any new emails on my IP4. I would receive new emails at home on my MBP, but not on the iPhone.
    My fix was on the MBP.
    Go to Mail/Preferences/Accounts/Advanced and uncheck the box that states "Remove copy from server after retrieving a message".
    This now allows new emails to be seen at home on my MBP, on my iPhone and on my IPS's email server.
    Hope this helps with your problem.
