Ichat on ipad

I have recently bought an Ipad 2. I can only be impressed with the feel and appearance of it but at that point my admiration stops. WI am more angered by what it WON'T do. Flash of course and video in face book and messenger why won't the camera work with anything. I want to do video calling. Please the ways that I can make use of the web cam fitting to it for social networking and messaging, or, has it been put there just to make the thing into and expensive mirror?
Why oh why do Apple do this to customers. And while I'm on the subject what was the point of putting that totally usless camera on it? It's worse than the one on my £20 mobile phone.

Apple will never put flash into the iPhone or iPad because Steve Jobs firmly believed that flash would be holding back the potential of mobile browsing and media.  And despite all the complaints from shortsighted people craving for what they were comfortable with, he was right all along.  This month Adobe admitted that their mobile Flash player has no future and we will soon see its extinction. There are dozens of articles analyzing this admission.  As for complaining about not being able to utilize the camera, besides the helpful links previously listed, it's also important to keep in mind that Apple might very well not be at fault at all.  Facebook designs the Facebook app, not Apple, so its Facebook and other developrs that haven't gotten around to investing the time and energy to integrate the feature of video calls, which even on the normal OS X laptops/desktops is a relatively new feature in fb.
Apple isn't perfect and every device that comes out is bound to have some growing pains before they get the appropriate feedback and make the necessary adjustments to improve in future software updates, but that's the nature of the beast.  Patience, my friend.  Apple cares a lot more about the customer's experience than most other globally influential companies.

  • How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat.

How do I get messages to go back to an AIM account? It's only seeing the iPad's Facetime email address and not seeing the old AIM account name that is on my desktop. I am using my iMac using iChat to talk to a newer iMac that doesn't have iChat. We had this working using Messages and Facetime (on the new machine) talking to my existing iChat account. One day last week, when Facetime rang, my kids answered on the iPad. Dang! Now it's all fouled up! The new iMac won't see my AIM account name and shows that I'm offline, because the iPad is off. We were able to call using "most recent call" in Facetime, but now I can't go and control that new iMac remotely to help with some email concerns the user is having. I'm trying to not personalize this too much, but it's grandkids talking to Grandma and Mom and Dad trying to solve new machine hiccups. Normally, I could just go in via iChat and control the other machine and troubleshoot, but I can't do it with Facetime only. My buddy list doesn't see  the other computer even though we are connected on Facetime right now. My name is not highlighted for the other computer. What could have gone so wrong?
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Is there a jabber client for iPad that will connect to Apple's iChat/jabber server?

I've just purchased a third gen iPad and I'd like to be able to use the VPN connection in conjunction with an iChat client to communicate with my office's internal iChat/jabber server. However, none of the apps I've tried are able to successfully connect? I've tried Monal, IM+, IMO, munduIM OSE and Talkonaut. No joy.
I use Messages (beta) on the desktop, but there's no way to setup anything other than an Apple ID in Messages on the iPad. I'd love to keep it unified.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I've heard that Beejive is the way to go, but (call me a cheapskate) I don't want to pay for another app just to find out it won't do what I want!

You almost certainly have a misconfigured router/firewall for jabber. I can confirm that OS X Lion Server works with the iPad and iPhone IM apps imo and BeeJiveIM.
To track down your problem, which almost certainly is simply a port getting blocked or not forwarded at some point between your router and server, I'd suggest getting an nmap executable (e.g., get Xcode via app store, then macports, then sudo port install nmap) and download the old feature-rich Airport Utility 5.6 from Apple. First try this:
    $ nmap -p 5222 localhost
    $ nmap -p 5222 server_ip_on_LAN
    $ nmap -p 5222 server_ip_on_INTERNET
This port should be open for each probe. When I first set up my server, Messages beta added a port forwarding entry on my Airport router, but this had a duplicate entry with another port forward, so I had to use Airport Utility 5.6 to track down and delete the superfluous port forward entry. I also had to use Server Admin to open all the iChat ports.
One thing I was hoping for is an iOS app that supports video/voice over jabber, but all the apps I see are strictly IM. Can anyone recommend an app for this?

  • Why doesn't iChat synch between my iPhone and iPad and iMac ?

I am using iChat on my iMac but the messages won't synch between my iPhone and iPad even though I am signed into my iCloud account on all three devices

    HI,
It seems that in Messages Beta you could create a "Start Date" if all old messages were removed from the iOS devices.
It seems no different in Messages.  (I used this Method during the Beta period)
Others have reported that turning the Phone Off and On again also creates a "Start Point"
(The two methods are mutually exclusive if you do the above first).

You can't -  but you can use FaceTime on the iPad and FaceTime on the Mac running Lion.

Why does the smiley images in iChat on my Macbook Pro come across as symbols to my iPad and iPhone recipients? example:  <3 comes across instead of a "Heart" image

Those chat images only work with iOS based devices.  If they're being sent to someone without an iOS device, it will go through as an ASCII character.

  • How do i get ichat to work with my ipad

I cant seem to get my family iphones and my ipad to work with ichat, i get an offline message when i try to send one?

It depends upon the model. It's wifi-enabled ? And is it listed on this page as supporting AirPrint : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4356 ?
If not then do Lexmark have their own app in your country's store that supports that model ? If they don't then there are a number of third-party printer apps such as Print n Share and PrintCentral Pro which might work with it.

  • Ichat from a mac to a mobile phone or iPad

    Hi,
Just recently got a MacBook Pro and only just started using all the features..
I was wondering how to add a mobile phone number?
    And an ipad contact??

    Hi,
The Question has ended up being Posted in the iChat Community.
There is little (none in fact) info as to it actually being about iChat.
    However.
iChat will make SMS connections to phone numbers if several factors come together.
    1) The Mac needs to be set up as if it is in the Untied States.
This allows the SMS items in the iChat Menus.
    2) Add a Buddy to the AIM Buddy list (i.e any screen name that logs in to AIM).
It should be in the format of +1 followed by the phone number (as in +19876543210)
    3) the "receiving" phone needs to be on a US carrier that also supports the SMS forwarding by AIM
The Phone Number as Buddy can be added to the Buddy list as if it were the Screen Name.
IF adding it to the Address Book it has to be added there as an IM Name.
A later Address Book in Edit mode
An iPad contact could have been added to the Message Beta which does iMessages as well iChat style chats.
iMessages can be sent to phone Number or Apple IDs on those devices that support either.
(Messages beta was pulled from the Download pages at the beginning of this week  (About the 11th) )
However if you are talking about Messages beta the phone Number is added to the Address Book in it's usual place and Messages can see that for iMessages.

  • IChat stopped working last night on iPads and Mac

Last night, while using iChat (beta) on my MBP to a friend's iPad, it studdenly stopped sending.  She called me to tell me that she suddenly couldn't send from her iPad, so I tried from mine.  She can't use iChat on her iPad, I can't on mine, I can't send to iPads or iPhones through iChat on my MBP, but I can use it and chat fine to a PC with a google account.  It stopped working, then briefly, it worked, then it stopped again, and hasn't worked for any of us since.  iPhone to iPhone works fine.  I've gone all through the forums here and haven't seen any buzz about something being down.   Any clues?

    HI,
    iPhoto  - Photo Stream.
I had a dial up email account that has been my Apple ID for a long time.
Last year I used this to create an iCloud ID for my iPhone as it went to iOS 5
This gives me two "names" to access the account if I use iTunes or the App Store.
They work as individual Names for iMessages and FaceTime.
I am the person in our house that inherits the old  phones at update time
I gained a second iPhone 3GS and I did have the two names split between the two phones.
With iOS 6 I did get the offer to include the Apple ID (iCloud version) to be added to Messages on the Mac (along with the second iPhone Number) I thought I had declined but it does actually appear in the Messages Accounts for the iMessages account although Unticked.
This led me to check which iPhone was using which part of the Apple ID's "Names" and I found one phone was not syncing iPhoto's Photo Stream.
I had thought it was because I had messed up the name somewhere.
I have checked whilst writing this and have had to time Machine some folders back that went missing in iPhoto (only my Daughter's wedding !!!).
Seems it is something I did on my Mac ??
I thought I was on to something that was going to be more helpful.

  • My question is that if I am using Mac and another friend of mine is using Ipad mini and her skpe isnt working and we want to share screens how can we do it through Ichat? Since on facetime screens cant be shared!

My question is that if I am using Mac and another friend of mine is using Ipad mini and her skpe isnt working and we want to share screens how can we do it through Ichat? Since on facetime screens cant be shared!

    Hi,
    You can't.
Messages - the replacement for iChat in Mountain Lion and beyond will  do Screen Sharing  but only to the accounts it did in iChat 5 and 6  (actually it includes iChat 4 as well)
That is to say in earlier version of iChat you could login to AIM and Jabber servers as well as enabling the Bonjour option to chat on your LAN.
All these will do Video and Audio only chats which in turn means they will Screen Share.
At iChat 6 an Yahoo option was added but it can only Text chat (it can't even send Files or Pics)
This means only the Internet able accounts that login in to AIM or to a Jabber server  can Video and therefore Screen Share.
The iMessages account will Invoke FaceTime if you use the Video icon during text chat.  (I.e. it is not Video inside the app like the AIM or Jabber accounts can do)
    NOTE.
AIM includes Apple Issued Apple ID as Valid AIM Screen Names.
Google Mail ID s can be used and Google Talk IDs with Messages as they run a Jabber server.
Facebook allow you to create a Chat ID (Facebook Chat ID) which is also a Jabber server.

  • HT2020 Can you install an iChat app on an iPad?

Can you download an iPad app for iChat?

    Hi,
Expanded version of what mende1 said
iChat on Macs up to the Lion (OS X 10.7.x) Install  can do AIM and Jabber chats.
At the OS X 10.7.x and the iChat 6 version you can also do Yahoo Text chats.
While the iPad will not be able to use Video (In these chats) there are various Apps for "Mobile" devices that will be able to help.
In addition you can login to AIM Express  and text chat from a Browser.
The same can be done by logging in to Google and Facebook and chatting via their Jabber services.
Enabling "Talk" on your Google Account enables Googletalk which is a Jabber server.
It is the same for the Facebook "Chat" option that needs to be Enabled as the run a Jabber server as well.
I presume there is a Yahoo Mobile version or a web Browser login that you can use.
Chats are essentially AIM to AIM or Jabber to Jabber (Yahoo to Yahoo).
The Messages App on the iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch needs to have a user on another iOS device or using an iMessages account set up in Messages in Mountain Lion (OS X 10.8.x)

  • FaceTime and iChat?..how to start chat from my iPad to a Mac on iChat?

how to start chat from my iPad to a Mac on iChat?

Yes, that is exactly what I mean.
The iPad can only do FaceTime and FaceTime is NOT linked (compatible) with iChat.
If your parents have an older Mac, or are only on Leopard, Tiger or such, you could use Skype.
It's free. The video quality isn't quite as good, but it does work. Your parents would need the Skype program installed on their Mac. You can download the free Skype for iPad.
