ICHAT on the iPHONE???

I held and iPHONE in my hands for the first time this week-end at the Nashville Apple store. WOW!!! What an awesome device. The iPHONE is more than hype. It is real. This question is for Apple HQ (I know you monitor these forums). Will we see iCHAT on the iPHONE. Placing the camera near the LCD screen (similar to my MACBOOK PRO) will allow video conferencing via AIM or Yahoo Messenger (.MAC Messenger???). An excellent way to gain more customers....

Let Apple know what you think...

  • Messenger and ichat on the iphone. It is happening right now!!!!

I was very impressed by the fact that I can use my hotmail messenger and ichat on my iphone and chat away with my friends. It is completely perfect and I really think it was what was missing on the iphone.
For anyone who do not think is true go to:
http://www.meebo.com on the iphone and go to MSN for messenger or AIM for ichat.
    You will love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes meebi works for a web based chat type service. It's still not true native iChat support on the iPhone. Which means the user has to go to Safari first rather than opening iChat right on the home screen. It's a nice "workaround" again for the iPhone.

  • IChat and the iPhone

Will the next iPhone update include iChat?

I wouldn't call it hugely unstable, but I have come across several bugs. Some are intermittent whereas some happen every time:
1 - Playing music and browsing the web at the same time, the iPod crashes after a while. (every time)
It does this to save memory when opening a large data page on Safari.
2 - When you're loading a webpage and lose connection to EDGE, the phone will automatically start to load the web page when it regains connection. When it does this, it crashes. (every time)
Um.. maybe for yours but not for mine (and not for many other users)
3 - Safari sometimes crashes when changing between portrait/landscape orientation. (intermittent)
    Not for mine
4 - Possibly not a bug but just a result of such advanced software and not enough processing power: the phone often freezes when scrolling if a webpage is loading.
    Not for mine either
I would suggest taking your iPhone in, these problems seem to be for your iPhone since many of ours have not experienced this (from what people have complained about).

    Hi Reneadu,
Go to Settings>Messages, turn iMessage to ON, and then set up your Send and Receive information. Here's a link that should help:

  • What does this mean? iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone because you do not have write access to the folder "iChat Icons"

Can anyone help me please? My iphone originally was linked to my PC. I downloaded over 3,000 pictures from my PC to my iphone. Since then my PC broke and now I have a macbook pro and the macbook doesn't recognize all the pictures from my pc. I get the following message.
-iTunes cannot sync photos to the iPhone "Daniel's iPhone" because you do not have write access to the folder "iChat Icons".

    Hi,
I picked up on this Post as I was searching for "iChat" in non iChat places.
A Mac will contain a Folder for "iChat Icons"
It is kept in Hard Drive/System/Library/Application Support/iChat icons
There are about 9 sub folders here including Planets, Guitars, Feng Shui and so on.
They are normally accessed in iChat to be your Own Buddy pic.
They way you have phrased your posts suggests you have a folder on your phone called "iChat icons" which may have been created by the PC.
For people who know more about iTunes than I do to help will need to know where this Folder is exactly.

  • Syncing iChat on the mac to the iPhone

im just curious if this feature is available
what i would like to do if possible is to send messages from iChat on the mac to a iPhone and the reciever would get the text as if i sent it from my iphone
im not sure if the two "ichat and iphone to iphone messaging" are using the same system so im sorry if my question doesnt make sense im just wondering if it would be possible to do it cuz it seems like a conveiniant feature, especially when abroad so that i dont have to deal with international texting charges

I'm afraid I don't have access to iChat anymore as I'm using Messages which replaces it.  If you don't want to use Messages (which probably involves upgrading your OS, though I do think it provides the solution you're looking for) then it would be better for me to bow out and hope that someone steps in who can answer your iChat specific queries.  Sorry!

  • Could iChat for the next iPhone be like news videoconferencing?

Now that we know the next version of the iPhone will have a camera in the front, it is possible to do iVideoconferencing the way the news does it -- showing both people speaking at the same time. (News videoconferencing) allows you to see what you look like while showing the other person simultaneously. Having fancy borders around the two videoconferencers is a nice to have, and will definitely sell.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
If an iChat app gets included I would think it will look similar to the current iChat.
But realistically only Apple knows and they will not be saying.

  • When i make several enquires on the iPhone 6 purchase and I don't understand why Apple locked my ichat now ?

    Need answer to my question????
When i make several enquires on the iPhone 6 purchase and I don’t understand why Apple locked my ichat now ?

How can I make unpleased remark as I am an Apple supporter, my family own 2 macbook, 3 iPhone 5S and 2 iPad. What I did asked Apple during the last online chat was why can’t I buy the iPhone 6 till now, next was, why some re-seller Apple store in Singapore can reserve the iPhone 6 and some can’t. Today what I wished to asked was why China Apple site still can purchased iPhone 6 after few days of launch as for Singapore site only few hours of launch and till now nearly a month I still can’t purchased it? So is my enquire offensive to Apple online chat that they have to LOCKED my online chat??? The problem was Apple not even reply my past enquires.

  • Is there any way to receive Google Talk messages in the iPhone Messages (meaning the text messaging app)?

I want to know if there's any way to receive incoming Google Talk messages in the iPhone Messages app? What I mean by this is the app your receive text messages in. The reason I ask is because in the new "Messages" app for the Mac, you can include your Google Talk account.

If I recall correctly, it's possible to send a Google Talk message out as an SMS (though there are apparently limits on how many in a given time period in order to prevent spam). That would be the only way as far as I know. Messages on the Mac seems to have folded some of iChat's features into it, so it works a bit differently.
    Best of luck.

    Hi,
In Messages or iChat go to the App Menu > Preferences > Accounts
On the left is the list of  Accounts that are set up.
Everyone gets Bonjour (Although by default it is not Active).
    Highlight the Bonjour Account
On the right there is a Box that says "Enable this Account" which probably has a tick in it.
Select it to remove the tick.
This will turn Off the Bonjour Account.
The List may also contain any @me.com name you have set up.
This can be used in Messages as the ID for iMessages
It is also a Valid AIM screen Name.
It would helps if we knew which version of iChat and the OS you are using as there are some changes that occur
An iCloud @me.com name will not work in iChat 5 or earlier due to the checks Apple has in iChat 6 (and Messages) which iChat 5 does not do.
To also work as a Valid Screen Name the password for your @Me.com name has to be 16 characters or less (AIM server limit)

  • HT2008 Does anyone know how to save an ichat from my iphone to my mac laptop?

A dear friend of mine passed away, and I want to save an important ichat of ours to my Mac laptop. (I believe part of the ichat an SMS text and part is an ichat but it shows up as one long text over several months). Does anyone know how to do this? I'm running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4. Thank you very much!

    HI,
So this is a conversation that is on the iPhone that has taken place over a period of time and has involved SMS  and iChat type Messages.
I did this on my phone
    Go to Messages
Go to the conversation you want to "Save"
    Use the Edit top right.
Scroll the Conversation to the top
Tap each line you want to send (somewhere)
Each will get a red tick and the Forward  and Delete option at the bottom become Active.
Once I had several lines ready I chose the Forward Option and sent them to my Apple ID I use in Messages Beta  (i.e I sent is as an iMessage)
The result is a single iMessage with all the lines (selected) justified to the left  (it does not separate you and your Buddy's parts)
    Picture
If your iPhone is in the United States and the Carrier support AIM SMS forwarding you may be able to send it to yourself, in iChat, via that method.
You may have some luck with http://www.apple.com/itunes/inside-itunes/2010/04/how-to-grab-screenshots-on-iph one-ipad-and-ipod-touch.html
I have yet to find a way to email the Messages/Conversation.

  • Anything wrong with the iPhone

im thinking about getting an iphone, maybe around christmas but not now, but does anyone have any problems with it? bad internet connections? bad service from AT&T? is the phone lacking anything that would make it better? should i wait until a second iphone comes out or should i go ahead and get this one? any problems you have would help with my decision.

Yes Nicole, that is right.... there are many Web 2.0 apps popping up on the internet, and daily. Some of them are useful (IM apps that allow iChat functionality), some are wacky and amusing, some are fun (games).
I also don't send MMS picture txt messages. I'd rather email, personally
It's difficult to say exactly how Apple will handle software updates, but yes, they will be free (they don't charge for these).
Software updates may (i say 'may') bring functionality to the iPhone such as iChat or a new widget....or perhaps add featuers like cut/copy/paste or file storage or editing.
3G is the latest FAST wireless network used by most cell carriers (or starting to be used by most carriers) for cell phones. The reason why Apple choose not to use 3G right now (Smart move, by the way), is because of power drain on the batter, design issues and the lack of 3G everywhere.
Right now, the slower (yet perfectly usable) EDGE network, (sometimes referred to as 2.5G) is available just about anywhere you have AT&T (Cingular) coverage.
I live in a big city and i have perfect coverage just about everwhere i go. If i'm stuck in traffic, i can pull up Google Maps/Traffic or open Safari and go to: sigalert.com and find a new route.
If i need to lookup a business, i can use google maps and get the phone, address, web info and connect the phone call very easily.
These are just a couple of the nice features
Remember, do some homework and find out if you have good AT&T coverage in the areas you'll be using the iPhone, such as work, home, school, friends, public, highways, towns, etc.

Yes it is done through iTunes. The iPhone will never show up in Finder as a device. The following is general information on iTunes sync: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386 and the following is a previous discussion where the post by Andreas Junge helped others that had a problem syncing audiobooks: https://discussions.apple.com/message/20052732#20052732

  • How can I stop the sharing on the iPhones that are in the same account because its sharing every thing even text messages

How can I stop the sharing on the iPhones that are on my account because its sharing everything even text messages and its driving everybody crazy

An icloud account is designed to be used by one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
If you have muitiple family members or friends using the same account as yours, then have them get their own Apple IDs and icloud accounts.
If you mean you want to stop the sharing between all your devices, then on any one device, go to Settings>icloud and turn off the services you don't want that device to share/sync.  Or turn off icloud altogether if that's what you want.
