Ichat Port Settings

Hi,
I work in an office with about 26 people who all use iChat, I have been trying to open the iChat Incoming Ports on our Router as outlined in the Apple Doc #93208. But when I contacted Netgear the Manufacturer of our Router, they said that you can only open up the Ports for one IP Address and that IP Address couldn't be the router.
Is it possible to open the iChat Ports so that everyone in the building can access them or do I really have to specifically Open the Ports for each Machine that uses iChat.
It seems like there should be a way to open the iChat Ports so everyone in the office can benefit, without having to open each Port for every machine.
Any thoughts would be great.
Thanks
Kalagan

Hi Kalagan,
If it has UPnP it is normally shown as an item on the left hand menu near the bottom of the list.
Your device is not mentioned here http://portforward.com/routers.htm
There are other FVS models that might provide some help.
On some Netgears the Services item is where Port Forwarding is normally done. On some this specifies the IP the port is forwarded to. On My DG834GUK this IP specifying is not done and it appears that the port is open to anyone's IP.
Other devices have specific places for Port Triggering.
Again this is table like in formulation.
It can specify the Trigger port, the Protocol that is going to be on and then the port or ports triggered.
At this point there can be some variance. On some the ports can be listed with commas or dashes separating them such as: -
Port 5678 on UDP triggers ports 5060,16384-16403 on UDP
On others only the dash is allowed.
So we end up with a table that looks like this for the single ports
5190 (Both or Any for the Protocol or add tow entries) to trigger port 5190 (Again Both/Any or two entries)
For the Bonjour side.
5297 UDP to trigger 5297 on UDP
5298 (Both/Any) to trigger 5298 (Both/Any)
5353 UDP to trigger port 5353
For Jabber.
5220 on TCP to trigger 5220 on TCP
5222 TCP to trigger 5222 TCP
5223 TCP to trigger 5223 TCP
The AV ports are different in that they are the ones where one port opens others.
On those that allow commas and dashes then like this
5678 on UDP to Trigger ports 5060,5678,16384-16403 (Note the lack of Spaces) On UDP (Some will not like the 5678 restated although it seems to work for single ports)
On those that will not mix single ports and groups then it takes two lines: -
port 5678 on UDP to trigger port 5060 on UDP
Port 5606 to Trigger ports 16384-16403 (All on UDP)
I hope this gives you enough info to work your device out.

  • Ichat port forwarding settings

Can someone point me to the open port settings for ichat? I cannot find them on the web and the hints and tips section above this forum says I do not have permission to read.
There used to be a document with the UPD and TCP settings, they are the ones I want.
    Cheers

See also my reply to Greg's post.
Apple has two Articles on the subject both are shwon as the two first hits in a Google Search (iChat Ports)
This was the 9th item http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/iChatPicsFolder/6%20iChat%20Ports/index.html But I am baised.
I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link.

  • Linksys WRT54G, iChat & port forwarding...

I changed a lot of the port forwarding settings on my router so that iChat AV would work nicely. Problem is, these commands took up all of the room in the list, and I'm hoping to play around with these settings a little more to get some extra juice out of some online gaming... Can I condense the iChat port forwarding commands into one command, opening all those ports for both instead of just TCP or UDP? Say, from 5060 to 5678, all open for 'both'?
Thanks for your help, in advance. I realise the better solution would be to buy a router that doesn't make me want to throw it out of a window...

    Hi rodstrout,
If you do not use Bonjour as you do not have another Mac take out 5297, 5298 and 5353 for the TCP AND UDP settings they have (save four lines)
If not using Jabber delete 5220, 5222 and 5223 on the TCP setting (or change this to 5220-5223 as it is only 4 ports)
Setting UPnP if you have it does change it to a Once only ON/Off setting without any typing of ports.
If you do not have this look for Port Triggering (Special Applications) as this can open the ports in less lines.
Depending how the ports can be listed the main iChat AV ports can be done in one or two lines.
    On some it can be:
Trigger port 5678 on UDP to open 5060,5678,16384-16403 (no spaces) on UDP
ON others it is two lines
trigger 5678 on UDP to trigger 5060 on UDP
Trigger 5060 on UDP to trigger 16384-16403 on UDP
In both cases the Login port of 5190 needs to be a TCP trigger to Both protocols (UDP and TCP) but still on port 5190.
The Jabber and Bonjour ports are also added as single ports.

  • How to Change Port settings on Satellite L25-S2161

I'm working on this system for a friend. System runs XP Home Edition, SP2. There are 4 user profiles-all administrators. The family recently moved to Verizon/FIOS as their internet provider.
With two users I can log on, connect to the network wirelessly, and surf the net using IE or FF. When I log onto the system with the son's profile, the network shows connected, but I can't connect to the internet with any browser. When I run wireless repair, the message states that the http port (80), https port (443), or FTP port (21) settings might be blocked.
When I go to Device Manager to check the port settings, Ports is not shown, and it isn't shown on any of the entries.
There is no restore point set on the machine. The son is the only user with a large body of files, iTunes settings, and more, so I haven't wanted to delete his profile and start over. The same results happen when I take the system home and log onto my linksys network.
Anyone have recommendations for next steps?

I haven't wanted to delete his profile and start over.
    Do it this way.

Be sure to import the email messages and addresses before deleting the old profile.

Since the last AppleTV update I can no longer use home sharing. I have checked all IDs, re-booted iTunes, my router, and AppleTV, and checked the port settings in my firewall. nothing works. Is it me or did this last update really scew things up?

    Hi,
I tried everythink, but same as before!
    - droppings ot the main screen
    - loosing Home Share
    now even on iPads !
    Frustrating!
I'm now more than convinced that this is caused by the latest iTunes version.
As some others stated in other threads .... it seems that Apple doesn't really take care of this problem. So what if, if we could make them feeling the same pain as we do. ... Just by dropping them a mail as soon as we have the problem again. Not more often, we don't want to be unfair, but everytime it happens.
I found this feedback site http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html
I will start now with this.... maybe this will help to rise a little bit of attention
    Tweety
This is the mailbody I always use
    Hello all,
Since the last update to iTunes Version 10.6.1 (7) streaming content (Movies and TV shows) to Apple TVs and iPads has two major problems:
    - Home Sharing is lost during streaming (streaming stops even if a large portion of the content is already preloaded)
    - streaming stops and the main screen pops up (Home Sharing still available)
This happens sometime after some minutes, sometimes after several hours, but it surely happens.
I followed every advice I could found on this support website. There are now a lot of threads following this issue.
Sometimes it seems getting better, but hours later the same isues occured again. Watching content on this enviroment is a real pain and very frustrating.
As many others I'm now convinced that the latest update of iTunes caused this problem.
Our family enviroment contains the following Apple products:
    - iTunes on a Win7 32 bit Noname PC (all content)
    - second iTunes on a iMac with OS 10.6.8 (all content)
    - third iTunes on a MacBook Pro with OS 10.6.8 (daughter, only selected content)
    - fourth iTunes on a Win7 32 Samsung Notebook (son, only selected content)
    - all iTunes sharing the same Home Sharing ID
    - 2 Apple TV second generation
    - 1 Apple TV first generation
    - 2 iPod touch (bought last year)
    - 2 iPads (second generation)
all firmware or software are on latest available patchlevel.
At this moment, I can not recomend to others to buy this products.
I will drop this feedback everytime my famiily and I facing this problem... just to help you to get a better feeling of the urgency of this issue.
Thanks for every effort in advanced.

  • Instrument I/O Assistant refuses to save serial port settings

    (I'm using Labview 7.1 on
    Windows XP)
I have a problem communicating with a device over a serial port using my lab
computer. The serial port is the only port on the device.
I have successfully communicated with the device on this computer using
    windows HyperTerminal.
I have successfully communicated with the device through Labview on another
    computer.
I am using the Instrument I/O assistant to get things up and running, this
worked fine on the other computer, but on this computer there are problems.
When I click on COM1port "properties"  in the "select
device" pane I get the "Edit vesa resource" dialog, but it comes
up with a "port settings conflict", it says:
"The Vesa port settings are different from the Windows port settings. Select the
    settings you want to keep."
Whichever settings I choose, when I hit save I get a dialog box with the
message "could not write specified port settings to the operating
system." So it won't save the settings and so it won't work when I run the
vi. (I know the right settings and they work in HyperTerminal, Labview just
    won't accept them.
    Can anyone help?
    thanks,
    Luke
    Luke_A_P

    I have solved the problem!
It seems that admin rights are needed to save the settings, this seemed odd to me since HyperTerminal did not need them and I could change settings in device manager (which didn't help in itself). But, trying Labview with an admin logged in allowed the settings to be saved.

  • Why does the port settings on my iPad change every time I sync with my computer. After syncing I have to go in and change the port settings so I can send and receive emails on my iPad.

Every time iSync my iPad 2 with my computer it changes the port settings. Has anyone else had this issue?

When you sync the iPad, do you have mail settings configured to sync to the iPad? You could have different settings on your computer that might be affecting the email set up on the iPad when you sync.

  • Mail port settings not sticking

I'm having trouble with port settings not sticking in mac mail.  When I start Mac Mail (v5.1, running in Lion) the program won't read mail in my iCloud account because the port settings are incorrect (port 143).  I click on the "Use SSL" box, which changes the port setting to 993.  I save the changes and everything works fine until I quit and restart the program.  The port settings revert to 143 and the SSL box is unchecked.  The issue, obviously, is that the changed settings are not being saved.  I deleted the iCloud IMAP account and reinstalled.  It reinstalled with the correct 993 SSL setting, but as soon as I quit the program and restarted, it reverted to 143, no SSL.  Anyone have an idea what is going on?

To solve the problem of mail port seetings not sticking required deleting the Accounts.plist in this mail directory:
    ~/Library/Mail/V2/MailData/Accounts.plist

    Hi TomG101,
It seems that there is a configuration conflict on the virtual switch port .
Also I tested the command on my lab , it works .
For troubleshooting please  create a new virtual switch then try to configure again .
Any further information please feel free to let us know .

  • Can't update with new network port settings in airport extreme

I had 3 device settings under the Network tab in AirPort Utility. 3 in DHCP Reservations and 3 in Port Settings. They worked fine for a year or two. I just added a new device and added it's settings in both panels. I added the Public and Private TCP Port settings and saved. (When re-opened, they were still there). Clicked Update and the router rebooted, but when I re-opened the Port Settings for the new device both TCP Port fields were empty. After many more attempts, including changes to the port number, I tried removing and re-entering the settings for an existing device that had been working. Now, it's settings would also not survive an update and would also disappear. I reinstalled AirPort Utility and trashed Airport prefs, but nothing works. I tried through my laptop, but same problem, so not software. I'm about to do a hard reset of the router. Does anyone have a clue as to what might be going on???

I think you need to provide more information about what you've done and what you're trying to do.
Did you assign a static LAN IP address to the NAS, what are your port forwarding entries, etc?

  • Losing Port Settings

I have the newest version of the time capsule.  Having a couple of on going issues with it, slow internet speeds if I get to far away from it (I am being told it is interference from too many wifi signals around me) it seems to help if I put the network on channel 11 manually but still in the master bed room I am only getting 11 mbps and our internet is 50 mbps....   But anyways my real question is this.  When I change any settings on the time capsule I lose all of my port settings for my server and I have to manually add them each time.  Is anyone having this issue?  Any one now of a fix?

When I change any settings on the time capsule I lose all of my port settings for my server and I have to manually add them each time.  Is anyone having this issue?  Any one now of a fix?
Any time a router loses one set of configuration when saving another something is wrong either because you are using a browser that has issues.. cannot be the case with the TC since apple use a utility specifically for the job. Or it is actually a hardware fault.
I would arrange to take it into an apple store and demonstrate the problem. If the problem is repeatable I think they will simply replace it.
Not a problem I have run into but I haven't purchased the latest hardware because I just think it is too buggy.
How are you setting the IP of the server?
Even if you set a static IP on the box, I would still setup a dhcp reservation in the TC as it helps keep the router tables updated.

  • Outgoing email port settings

I am having trouble sending email throught my insightbb account via my iPhone as it keeps telling me to check my outgoing server settings. Insight tells me that it is because the outgoing server port must be set to 460, however I cannot find any way to edit the port settings on the account. Any ideas?

Not sure this falls into same message category, but hope you can help. I can't set up two mail accounts.
I have attempted to set up two Mail Accounts so that I have two different smtp out going options. At home I use smtp.west.cox.net which worked no matter where I was located outside my home, including in San Francisco when I purchased the phone, until last Thursday when my outbound emails stop sending when located away from home. The cox.net still works while I'm in range of my wireless server at home.
Problem 1: No matter what attitional account i attempt to set up last, it replaces whatever account is already set up with the new server info and the account name as well.
iPhone support told me to set up the account - smtp1.attglobal.net - to use when I'm away from home to solve the problem. It didn't work. And replaced my cox.net account on the iPhone.
Genius bar told me to set up cwmx.com. And it replaced my cox.net account on the iPhone. It didn't even work in their store.
Problem 2: After a combined 2.5 hours, the Genius bar finally told to set up another email account on Yahoo so I'd have different settings.
I now have no confidence in iPhone support or the Genius bar as the answer was more of an 'I don't know try this', than 'this is the solution.' Is there a solution that doesn't involved setting up yet another email account with another provider?
