IChat Pro

As a company we informally converse through iChat between our offices in Salt Lake, Denver and Baltimore. Professionally, we use WireCast from Vara Software to typically capture to disk, then compress and post the video for clients to view......or we use a dual computer scenario (explained below). We wish that there was an iChat Pro version that had WireCast's functionality within the iChat interface because it would allow us to utilize the best of both worlds on one computer and actually use iChat for "Professional" live presentations to our clients. Currently we achieve it by using two computers....the first computer has WireCast on it (to handle the switching between the three iSight cameras, the graphics and the audio). That computer is then feed into the computer which has iChat and we select the feed from the first as the source. It works great but lacks the portability and simplicity that a "joined at the hip version" with iChat Pro would......
Our 2 cents.......

Are you saying you wish to capture Bonjour Chats (in video) and post them from one computer ?
Or are you saying that at the moment one computer acts like a TV studio to provide a Video feed that is effectively one end of an iChat Video (Bonjour or otherwise).

With the Developer Tools on the Install DVD you get Quartz Composer that are the files that provide the Video Effects.
A study of these could provide the means to work it on one computer and with possibly the Links above.
The Second Link may get it on one computer anyway

  • IChat Buggy not loading

Hello there. These past two days my iChat has not been working. About a year ago I installed a program called iChat Pro that modified my iChat to look different. It worked fine and such but two days ago I decided to reinstall iChat from the Snow Leopard disc in hopes of getting rid of the mod. It did not work. When I open the program I can see that I am logged in to AIM and my buddy icon, but no contacts are shown. I can move the window around but clicking on any buttons like the status changer of add a buddy icon cause the window to flicker.
I ran repair permissions with disk utility and many iChat errors came up and were fixed relieving me. After it was over I opened iChat and bam it worked. A few minutes ago though I opened iChat and it was back to being bugged. I tried disk utility again but no luck. My guess is that there is some file iChat is trying to read that is not in the right place.
Here is a copy of my console log.

I have read other posts and deleted the plist files for AIM in the Library>Preferences.
Another thing is that if I set up my .Mac account, that window functions normal and everything.
Thank you for reading and I hope someone can help me fix this nasty problem.

    Umm,
Most likely if you have not Uninstalled the Mod (and/or removed the files) then the com.apple.ichat.plist may still list where to find them.
Most Ecamm mods (iGlasses, Conference Recorder, iUSBCam) and others that I have used in the past put a file in the Hard Drive/Library/Input Managers folder and sometimes add a folder called SIMBL and have their bits in there.
This particular Library is for All Users on your Mac. Also check your Home Folder/Library/input Managers if the folder has been created.
Once any references to the Mod have been removed then delete the com.apple.ichat.plist (Again if you did it before).
When iChat is restarted it should call things form the default place (A Resources folder inside the app).
(Go to the Applications Folder and Right Click iChat.
    Choose Show Package Contents
Navigate that Content Folder to Resources.
This has all the pics iChat uses, (Smileys, Video and Audio iCons, Snap Shot count down, Status Shapes and translucent blobs) except for Buddy Pics)
Hopefully this mod has not added extra pics or deleted the Proper ones.

  • IChat Video Chat Invite Issues

On iChat i will send and invitation it will not show i sent one and my friends dont get them. I also cannot receive the invites. PLEASE HELP ME!!!

All i could find about uninstalling iChat pro.
"You see where in the installer it has a warning notice to the effect of, "Make a backup of iChat.app first. This will be the only way to restore the default contact list."? Yeah. So if you didn't, have fun digging out your Mac OS X DVD. Pacifist will help you extract just the iChat installer, I suspect."
    To reinstall iChat.
Put in your install disk 1(the disk that came with your mac or the Leopard install DVD) then after the disk has opened double click on "Optional installs" then double click on the "Optional installs.mpkg".
Then when you get to "Custom install......." click on the triangle by appications and then tick iChat and then continue with the install.
When done download and install the 10.6.2 combo to bring iChat back up to date.

  • Video yes - audio+video NO!? in i-chat

I have been able to successfully videoconference mac to pc but not audio and video - why? I have even tried to hook up an external mic, but the audio option is still grayed out when videoconferencing. My friend with the PC tries to send a 'talk' option and is met with an error that says that my computer 'is not accepting talk'.
I looked through the support pages and tried checking out the sound settings in preferences - no mute and the internal mic is picking up audio just fine.
I am aware of the 'no audio chat only' option when using AIM (as we both are) Mac to PC, however - it was my understanding that audio was avaliable when using the videoconference option.
Has anyone had success audio chatting Mac to PC using AIM via i-chat?
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Leigh-Ann --
Sorry to hear of your iChat woes. I wish I could offer more substantive advice here, but sometimes the best advice someone can give is to ask someone else. In this case, I'm thinking that you're problem sounds more like an iChat issue than a PowerBook-related one, so you might try reposting your inquiry where the iChat experts can have at it, here -- http://discussions.apple.com/forum.jspa?forumID=902 -- in the iChat AV 3 forum.
Tell the iChat pros there what's been going on, give them as much specifics as possible with regard to what you've been trying to do, how you've gone about trying to do it and what the results have been (include the specifics of the camera, mic, and computers involved) and (imo) you'll be giving yourself the best possible odds of figuring out what the problem is.
    Good luck.

Hi...my I-Chat, using voice only chat...works sometimes and sometimes I can not hear the other person at all...I've tested with internal and with external speakers...Klipsch 5.1

  • Blank IMs - PLEASE HELP!

I tried out iChat Pro, and I didn't like it. It didn't have an uninstaller, so I just deleted iChat and reinstalled it with the Leopard disk. Now, not only is my iChat behind in updates, but now whenever I IM a buddy it appears as blank. When I right click and choose to start a chat/Instant Message, nothing happens.
The combo update won't work for me(it says my volume doesn't meet the requirements), and I cannot find the ichat plist. Will someone please help me? Thanks so much.

You need to do this in stages and the right order.
    1) reinstalling the app is part of the first stage.
This is finished off by running the Combo Installer to bring iChat up-to-date with the OS
    2) then you need to apply this FAQ http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1462798 and pick the symptom and fix level required.
Unfortunately it looks at this stage if Apple have Updated the OS with the Time Machine and Airport Update v1 to a point where it is not really 10.5.2 anymore and is in fact 10.5.2+
The clue to this is in the System Profiler when you look at at the Software line
and the bit in Brackets after 10.5.2 is Listed.
System Profiler can be accessed from the Apple icon menu top left of your screen > About this Mac > More Info Button
    or from the Applications/Utilities folder.

  • External iSight on MacBook Pro - but not in iChat!

    Hello all,
I'm considering the purchase of an iSight camera on ebay to use on my MacBook pro.
Does the Mac fully recognize the camera across all applications? For example, Yahoo Messenger, Skype, QuickTime Pro, etc., etc., etc.
Does it recognize it along with the built in one for everything? Is there a way to set it in the preferences as the default in case a given application only recognizes a default camera rather than giving me an option?
    Cheers,
    Aaron
    Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada

    Welcome to Apple Discussions, Aaron
I'm considering the purchase of an iSight camera on ebay to use on my MacBook pro.
Even if the iSight you are buying through an internet auction site is a NOS (new, old stock) iSight, it may not be covered by Apple Warranty. If the seller is not providing you service guarantees or warranty, you may be interested in considering Apple's iSight Service: Frequently Asked Questions.
Moreover, if the one you buy is used, you may also want to be certain whether the connectors, cables, and mounts that meet your needs are included.
Does the Mac fully recognize the camera across all applications?
It does for Skype and the apps (caveats as listed) in this list of Some Applications You Can Use With iSight. The only way to really know whether an app will work with iSight is to check the System Requirements for each application you contemplate using with a webcam.
Does it recognize it along with the built in one for everything? Is there a way to set it in the preferences as the default in case a given application only recognizes a default camera rather than giving me an option?
Some applications allow you to switch between multiple cameras when you have more than one connected. Such apps would let you select between your built-in iSight and an external. iMovie and iChat AV are two that do this. See the documentation for other apps to determine whether they have the ability to select between multiple connected cameras.
I know of no way (or need) to set the preferences for a default camera. Applications that will not allow switching between multiple cameras will recognize only the one their software expects. Apps that do allow switching will let you choose which you want.

  • IIcannot invite my buddies to video chat. The option is greyed out.  I have ichat 6.0.1.  What's weird is that I was able to connect to the same users (who all have macs) when I first got my mac six months ago. I have a macbook pro. I am running Lion.

The video icon does not appear next to the users' names, and it is greyed out in the menu screen.  What is weird is that I was able to chat with the same buddies successfully in the past?  And sporadically, they are able to invite me.  But otherwise, it doesn't work.  I can't invite them to video chat.  They are all mac users with built in cameras, so why won't this work?  The video chat option was a huge reason for my getting a mac to keep in touch with my family.  Can you help me out?
    Thanks

    Hi,
So the Bandwidth Limit was set at None and is now set at 500kbps
This should smooth out any variances that high speed interent connections have.
    The Speed test results.
The Ping thing is measured in microseconds.
It is the time taken for one single packet of data to get to the server is question and get back info that it got there.
    Smaller numbers are better.
You then have Download speed. The Headline speed that the ISPs tell you about (They may even tell you have fast a movie of music file will download)
The Upload speed is the most important here as iChat is Sending (uploading) your Picture and Sound to your Buddy.
The results you post are in Mbps (Megabits per sec) or part of.
The Minimum for iChat is measured in kbps (kilobits per sec)
For 1-1 video chats this is about 128kbps  - So you have an upload about 6 times this.
The Min for 3 and 4 way Video Chats is 384kbps and you have about twice this speed (0.69Mbps = About 690kbps - more than enough)
    NOTE:
The math used here is rough - using based 10 whereas in fact it is actually base 8
    Some other Checks
iChat will Video to any Buddy using iChat form any type of Buddy List
This means it will Video to  Google Buddy using a Jabber Buddy List as long as the Buddy is also using iChat
The same is true in iChat 6 of the Yahoo option.
With AIM Names it should (I stress Should) also video chat to PC users using AIM for PC or the Trillian App with the Pro extension (which Costs) - people seem to get better result with Trillian than with AIM.
iChat will NOT video to anyone (PC or Mac) logged in to the Google Mail web Chat (either on iGoogle or and Google Mail page for their Account).
Nor to the Standalone PC app called GoogleTalk.
If you are using a Yahoo Buddy list it will not Video to a PC user using the PC Yahoo App nor to a Mac user using the Yahoo for Mac Beta 3 (not matter what build).
Any in this section will not show Video or Audio icons.

  • IChat screen sharing and video not working on MacBook but works on Mac pro

I have a MacBook and MacBook pro. Both have the lion os 10.7.2. I can use iChat on the MacBook pro for screen sharing, video chat, and text chatting, with others remote to me. However, I can only do texting with the MacBook.  I can do screen sharing via Finder between my MacBook and MacBook pro. I can do FaceTime between both systems. I can also do FaceTime between the MacBook and anyone remotely.
I also tried installing teamviewer on the MacBook, and on a remote MacBook..... And I get the same results where I cannot share the screen, from the one that has not been working.
I have checked the settings under system preference and made sure screen sharing was enabled. I have checked under iChat under video to make sure screen sharing was checked.
The macbook that is having this problem is configured for AIM for iChat
I have run out of ideas. Any suggestions on what I might try?
    Thanks

    Ok,
I will list the ports in greater detail and point out when iChat uses them.
AIM Login and 1-1 Text Chatting
iChat version 1  through 5 will Log in to the AIM server on port 5190 (TCP Protocol) by default.
Since iChat 2 we have been posting here that the AIM servers allow a Login on almost any port and have been suggesting port 443.
This is used by both Web Browsers for secure Login to some sites and by the Mail app with some mail servers.
It is also below port 1024  (most domestic routers have the ports above this figure closed)  In some campus situations using port 443 will normally allow at least Login and Text chatting.
iChat 6 uses port 443 by default.
    File Transfers (AIM)
When doing File Transfers with AIM Buddies iChat will move to using Port 5190 on the UDP Protocol.
This cannot be changed.  (This invokes the little Message about Starting Direct IM in an open Chat)
It also uses this port for Pics-in-chats, dropping Files on a Buddy's name with out a Chat or sending other files that are not pics.
In the case of Port Forwarding some devices don't like port 5190 being forwarded "twice" which is another reason for moving the login and Text chat port.
    Jabber Logins
No matter what Jabber server you use ichat will use one of two ports (5222 and 5223)
Which one it uses is dependent on whether it needs and is using an SSL Login or not.
SSL Logins use port 5223 and NON SSL one use 5222 (ticking or Unticking the SSL box on a Jabber account will automatically change the port).
Google Talk is the exception in that it allow a Login on port 443 as well.
The First Apple Doc I linked you to says iChat uses port 5220 in Jabber.
I run Little Snitch and have never seen any version of iChat use this port at any time.
    Bonjour
Any Mac to Mac Connection or Mac to any Bonjour able peripheral will be on port 5353.
This is normally opened (Preset) in the Mac Firewall for the Finder/System side of Sharing.
iChat needs and uses two other ports  (5297 UDP and 5298 on both TCP and UDP)
As they an LAN Side connections the router would normally pass them.
At iChat 3 there were issues with the Mac Firewall (it included UDP set up and the preset in the firewall only listed them and TCP so we had people add all the iChat ports  (you had to manually enter them in Tiger)
    A/V Chats
No matter which Buddy List you start from iChat will do A/V chats the same way.
The Visible Invite you or your Buddy sends is on port 5678 (UDP)
In iChat 3 and earlier iChat then moves to port 5060 to send the SIP Connection Process invite behind the scenes  (SIP = Session Initiation Protocol)
Port 5060 is one of 4 ports internationally agreed for SIP (How VoIP phones connect) (5060-5063).
Although ISPs were not supposed to block Through traffic many started blocking End users  and then Charging them to open these ports (Many ISP were telecom companies that were losing long distant Telephone calls monies).
The SIP process then in iChat 3 contacts a server run by Apple for this purpose (Snatmap.mac.com to give it it's full name).
This acts like a old fashioned telephone operator connecting the call.
SIP is a text based process.
    Your end "Calls" the operator.
    The Operator "Calls" Buddy.
    Buddy Accepts
iChat then negotiates the ports to be used.
In iChat 2 and 3 it uses 4 ports (vid in Vid out, Audio In and Audio Out) from "the group of 20" starting at the bottom (16384 to 16387 normally)
Three and 4 way chats uses more ports (which is why 20 are set aside)
In iChat 4 Apple realised the issue with the 5060 port and changed the way iChat worked
Since then it has Sent the invite on Port 5678 but then moved to port 16402 (it starts at the top of a smaller group of 20)
All Video and Audio traffic is also now on one port  (so no need for 20 ports and iChat now lists 10).
    NOTES so Far.
File Sharing during a Chat converts the Chat to Direct IM for AIM Logins
    This is Peer-to-Peer in AIM
A/V Chats are Peer-To-Peer and you can actually log out of the Buddy list and continue the chat. (The exception is using iChat 6's  AIM Video relay option)
    Screen Sharing
Screen Sharing is an Audio Chat with a VNC connection along side.
Both bits have to wok to avoid the Pop-up to send to Apple and the Log that contains.
The Audio part is on port 16402 and the VNC part is random. (So random it is different every time you do it)
The reason it is classed as an Audio Chat+ is so the AppleScript for Auto Accept can  filter out Screen Sharing connection and Not Auto Accept them.
This does have a knock on effect as far as your Router is concerned as already mentioned earlier.
You cannot Forward or Trigger the random Port so you have to use UPnP in your router to open the ports.
    NOTES
Jabber File sharing may possibly be on port 1080 as listed in the Server Article I linked you to (I have also seen it written about in other stuff I have come across)
However Little Snitch does not seem to confirm this either.
Most time it will be peer-to-peer like the AIM connections for this.
However some Jabber servers do not seem to allow this and have this Jabber65 Proxy set up which passes things Server to Server in between it leaving your end and arriving at a Buddy.
This on  Port 7777 but you do not need to open this port (unless you are running a Jabber server)
I have yet to test File Transfers using a Yahoo Buddy List in iChat 6.
    AppleCare and Geniuses.
Previously I have been contacted by Geniuses in Stores asking to test customer's iChat.
They and the Applecare people have details about Apple wants an designed the App to work.
What they don't have is the knowledge about what it takes to set it up in the "real world".
There are literally thousands of Makes and Models of routers.
Some like the Thomson-Alcatel brand state they are SIP/VoIP ready but this means the router strips out all SIP Data trying to send it to a Phone.
Early models of Alcatels can get around this with a tweak. Later models can't.
Motorola devices tend not to have UPnP.
Apple Base Stations have Port Mapping Protocol instead of UPnP and this needs setting up.
The Zyxel range definitely does not like the dual use of port 5190 and does much better using UPnP (You almost certainly have to do your AIM login on port 443 with these).
    1. I have two computers (MacPro and MacBook Pro) that are both running Lion 10.7.2 and both running iChat 6.0.1.  <<-- Fine
    2. The Netgear router model is: WNDR3700.    <<<<---  With any Brand there are exceptions and I do wonder about this one
    3. The firewall for both Macs is turned on and in the advanced area iChat is listed as being "allowed."  <<<<---- Fine
    4. In iChat, under the video options, "Screen Sharing Allowed" is checked.                                        <<<<<---- Fine
    5. In System Preferences, "Screen Sharing" is checked and this is for "All Users" at present.               <<<<<---- Not Required
    6. There are two separate AIM accounts being used for iChat purposes.                                            <<<<<----  OK
    7. In iChat preferences, each AIM account is "Enabled" under "Account Information" and the "Server Settings" show the Server as "api.oscar.aol.com" and the Port is "443" and "Use SSL" is checked.                                <<<<---- As it should be
From this and the other info in the first port it was only the router set up that seem to throw some light on a possible cause (Port Forwarding and UPnP conflict)
If just doing Port Forwarding the ports listed would have covered things (Except the Screen Sharing's random port)
    Regarding your latest post.
I have  table similar to that on my Sagem 2504Fast Modem/router combined device and it too seems to list a different port on the external side on occasions.
I would try the router with the Disable SIP ALG unticked (so it is not disabled). If the Help info on the right gives any info about what this Netgear version does it would be helpful.
Some are like the Thomson-Alcatels I was talking about in that it points the SIP data to a specific place (Possibly a Phone socket on the device)
Others seem to provide an "boost"  to enable SIP to work and don't seem to get in the way of iChat.
Try adding the Names in Table 1 from this page and see if you can Video to those.
There are 6 names in total (I am actually only seeing one on Line as I type)

    HI,
    Messages is iChat+
iChat "Stopped" at version 6 in Lion and Messages in Mountain Lion is version 7
It will do everything iChat did/does and it does the iMessages bit as well.
Upgrading form Lion normally has your Jabber and AIM valid IDs and Names in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars and enabled for Messages
They should also appear in Message Menu > Preferences > Accounts and have their "Enable this Account " box ticked.
Buddy lists are brought to the Front (and on view) from the Window Menu > Buddies  (By Default a combined list)
In the Preferences > General Section you can unlink them by Unticking "Show all Accounts in One List".
The iMessages account takes an Apple ID and does not have a Buddy List
The Messages Window is a interface and tabbed Chat window.
Click the New Message icon top left
Then the Blue + icon top right that appears
    Select Contacts
Select "Contact" that has either Apple ID or iPhone Number  (they need to have registered with iMessages as well).

  • I am running OSX 10.7.5 on my Macbook Pro. I have iChat but not Messages. IS there some way to upgrade or download an app for Messages? Thank you!

Would like to get Messages on Macbook Pro OSX 10.7.5 so that I can sync with iMessages from my iPhone 3GS. Not sure if this is possible though. Or do you  have to have Mountain Lion to get Messages? It seems that I only have iChat on my Macbook.
    Thank you!!

You need to have Mountain Lion to get it.

  • IChat screen sharing does not work on my Mac Pro

I have a weird iChat screen sharing problem that i can't seem to resolve on my Mac Pro. Ever since i got my Mac Pro in early 2008, using the screen sharing feature in iChat has always been flaky. I have never gotten to the point of getting it consistently working. Lately, i have not been able to get it to work at all.
Most of the time, when i choose to share my chat target's screen (or when i share my screen), i would be able to see my chat target's screen and use the mouse for several seconds before the shared screen session is ended. The errors that i am getting are:
    +"Disconnected from Screen Sharing because:+
+No data has been received for the last 10 s..."+
+"There was a communication error during your chat.+
+No data has been received for the last 10 seconds. You can send+
+details about this problem to Apple to help improve future versions of+
    iChat."
On other occasions (mostly when i am trying to troubleshoot this issue by testing in the same network with my Powerbook, which is on 10.5.6 as well), i get this error:
    +"Disconnected from Screen Sharing because:+
+Screen sharing could not be established."+
I have tried to do screen sharing via iChat with other Macs in the same network and also on the internet but with the same problems.
Initially, i thought this may be router related. But the fact that iChat screen sharing on my Powerbook works perfectly both in intranet and internet eliminates my router as the culprit.
I have also tried disabling the OSX Firewall but the outcome was the same.
I read some posts that there may be issue with using the external iSight web cam. I unplugged it, cleaning up all the iChat-related caches and preferences and tried again but with the same result.
I have also tried connecting to iChat using several different account types (mobileme, .mac and AIM) but the end result is the same.
I run a Ubuntu VMWare fusion VM on my Mac Pro as my webserver. I thought that may be the problem. Shutting down the Ubuntu VM also does not help.
Applecare support personnel also instructed me to re-install iChat but that did not help as well.
One interesting error i noticed in the system.log (seen via the Console app) that is generated everytime iChat screen sharing fails on my Mac Pro:
    +12/23/08 12:32:00 AM /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat[507] error getting server version+
I am really running out of ideas on what else i can do to get this resolved.
Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

The audio and video chat portions of iChat work fine.

I managed to make some headway in my attempts to troubleshoot this problem. I did a fresh Leopard install on one of the drives in my Mac Pro. I then proceeded to update it to 10.5.6. After that, i launched iChat and attempted screen sharing with my Powerbook. The first few attempts failed, with the following symptoms:
    - i would be able to see and control the Powerbook's screen
    - after 5 seconds, my screen sharing session is disconnected
I then unplugged my external iSight. After i relaunched iChat, i managed do screen sharing in iChat without being disconnected!!! When i connected the iSight back into the ACD, with iSight off, i attempted to screen share again. This time, it failed after about 5 seconds, just like earlier. I then turned iSight on. This time round, the screen sharing session was not disconnected!!
So in addition to the iSight issue, something in my original Leopard startup disk is causing iChat screen sharing to fail because even when screen sharing was failing on my fresh Leopard install, i do not see this error:
    /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat(507) error getting server version
So if i can figure out what is causing this error to show up in system.log, then i can manage the iSight issue.

  • Mac Pro Running Windows XP in Bootcamp with AIM 6.5 Can't Connect to iChat

I'm running Windows XP on my Mac Pro under Bootcamp. The Windows firewall is turned off (I'm running McAfee, and using it's firewall).
I am trying to talk to a friend who is using iChat on a Mac - I am using AIM 6.5 on my Mac running Windows. The connection fails as soon as iChat attempts to answer.
    Mac OS 10.4.10
    Bootcamp 1.4 (beta)
    Windows XP
    McAfee 7.2
    iChat 3.1.8
    Airport Express
I have set up McAfee to allow TCP and UDP connections over ports 2869 (TCP) and 1900 (UDP).
I have also disabled McAfee, and tried to use the Windows firewall settings discussed frequently in this forum (with appropriate exceptions). This also fails.
I have also tried to doing this under my Mac OS X bootup running PARALLELS. This worked once, but I have not been able to repeat it (McAfee was running when it worked).
iChat works great on my Mac under OS X. This is only a problem in Windows XP under Bootcamp.
I cannot connect to appleu3test01 either (under Bootcamp with XP). I can connect to appleu3test01 no problem running iChat on my Mac.
Might this be a Bootcamp related problem? Can anyone else test this for me (i.e. can someone try to use AIM 6.5 from Windows XP under Bootcamp)???
    Thanks!

    Hi Ralph,
{quote}If the Firewall was On I would ask if you had set it up as an Exception
    http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page12.html#_Service{quote}
Yes, this is what I meant by,
    {quote}I have also disabled McAfee, and tried to use the Windows firewall settings discussed frequently in this forum (with appropriate exceptions). This also fails.{quote}
I've noticed that you've posted solutions frequently in this forum. I read your posts, and visited your website. Its great information ... thanks for posting it! However, it didn't help me to resolve this particular problem.
    You asked,
    {quote}The question now becomes have you allowed it through McAfee ?{quote}
I tried resolving the problem with McAfee "ON" and "OFF". When it was "OFF" I Set the Windows firewall up per your instructions. Unfortunately, it didn't help. And yes, this includes setting up the "exceptions."
I don't think the problem is with McAfee.
    You stated,
    {quote}Having said that and seeing you have tried combos around this issue I would have to point out the AIM site says AIM 6.5 will only Video with other AIM applications. It has been reported here though that it does work with iChat{quote}
Yes, I have read that AIM 6.5 will communicate with iChat on several forums. Lots of people appear to have this working. I wish to use iChat on my Mac to communicate with friends running Windows XP (or Vista) using AIM 6.5. I like iChat.
    Finally, you asked,
    {quote}Next I would have to ask if the modem or router is allowing the AIM application ?{quote}
This is a very good question. I have not been able to test this. I couldn't find an AIM "test" address to use (like Apple's appleu3test01). Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help Ralph. This configuration is a little bit unusual, but it should work. I think the problem might be with the AIM configuration as you've suggested. I will continue to troubleshoot and report any findings here.

  • Macbook Pro iChat brings down network with Video

So, I have a brand new Macbook Pro and my buddy in Georgia has a brand new Intel iMac and we tried to hook them up via the cameras and iChat, and every time I try to initiate a connection, my DSL connection drops (this is consistent) and the laptop totally locks up.
His end says something like "Cannot get video from the camera" and iChat crashes on him too. This is consistent, happens every time, no matter which end initiates the connection.
    Anyone else had this problem?

    Hi jama999,
Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
I have had someone do this to me.
(say that everyone he contacted, he could crash their iChat).
This was before there were Intel Macs.
It turned out to be his router. Everything was fine after he replaced it.
I would start by cycling the power on yours.
