IChat Screen Sharing Kills Macbook -- Black Screen & Reboot

So this is kind of new. Yesterday I was screen sharing just fine, that's sharing my screen to another person.
Today I get an invite from a friend, asking for my screen, and I accept. I hear audio from his end for about a second then my macbook crashes and begins the boot sequence by itself.
I thought it was a small bug of some sort, I invited him to see my screen after I was all booted up.
Same thing. The screen went to black with strange color bars on it. I was going to get a picture but it started booting by itself again after 10 seconds or so.
Uhh.. any ideas?

Hi,
If there are two Mac Users on the computer they should be able to make the same changes to any iChat setting.
There are exceptions but these involve the Second account being subject to Parental Controls.
This, if the iChat Limit is set, stops a Person Adding Buddies without approval - depending on settings- and not using some Buddy lists (Bonjour in all versions and Jabber as well in 10.5.x) and possibly excluding some Buddies.
I must admit to have not tried Screen Sharing in an Mac User account with Parental Controls ON.
There is another Thread currently where the users is finding that Blue Tooth just being On is stopping Screen Sharing.
I have tested this and I can Screen Share with Blue Tooth on.
They are using a Apple Track pad that I don't have to compare with though.
Hope that gives you some clues.

  • Screen Sharing not working - Black Screen

    Hi
I run a Mac Mini (2010) with Snow Leopard as a media server.  The MM is headless so I rely on screen sharing to control it.  I connect to it using Screen Sharing on my MacBookPro (also Snow Leopard) as well as LogMeIn when at work.
I have the MM scheduled to shutdown at night and come back on in the morning.  Recently after starting up I get a black screen on Screen Sharing.  I've tried a lot of the tips given and none have worked.  Bizarrely the screen is black on LogMeIn as well so I don't believe it's a Screen Sharing issue.
If I force a shutdown (pressing power button) then restart, Screen Sharing works fine.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi Guys,
Thanks for getting back to me.
    Hironmay
I noticed the problem once I updated to Adobe Flash Player version 10.1.102.64 Universal Binary for Macs | 7.60
I am not sure what my development team in India has done and if they upgraded to the 1.3 SDK. I will check with them, and make sure that they do and see if that fixes the problem
I am not sure if I am getting a RTE, no messages or errors are popping up it is just staying a black screen.
I will pass along the suggestions you made to my development team in India, and hopefully it helps.
    I will keep you updated.
Quick question, I was looking for the notification of the latest update on the collabritive methods blog and I did not see anything there.. is there another place I should be looking for the latest news about LCCS ?
As always thanks for the help.
    Best,
    Dan

  • ICHAT Screen sharing with "Share My Screen"

I am able to screen share when I "Ask to share" my father's screen, and he is able to "Ask to share" my screen. Both work successfully. However, when either of us select "Share My Screen" with the other, the audio kicks in but the window that says "Starting Screen Sharing with" username just keeps spinning, never switching over to sharing the screen.
    I have a MacBook Pro running 10.5.2. He has a MacBook 1gb 2ghz Intel Core 2 Duo running 10.5.2.

I am talking about this page/pane on the Airport Admin Utility info
Where it says "Share AN IP" at the bottom, in the drop down
This is where it does DHCP to your LAN (And therefore computers)
If you do mean this pane then we need to know what IP is shown where the 75 is shown.
Is it one starting 192.168.x.xxx (or 10.something or 172.something) ?
If it does list an IP in one of those Groups and the SHare an IP is ON then you have two DHCP servers.
As for accessing the DSL modem it is normally a question of using a Web browser
You need the IP from the place where the 75 is showing as the "Router" IP This would be the one to use in a web browser if it is one of those groups.
After that use this page http://portforward.com/routers.htm
If you device shows then click on it.
In the Next page click on iChat.
The Page that comes up should be used for reference only.
It should contain the default IP and the User ID and Password if it uses one.
Once you get here check all the Settings and look to see what is active in UPnP if you have it, Port Forwarding, Port Triggering and DMZ.
Lets us know what you find.
Telling us the make and model will provide a bit of a check of other issues.

  • PLEASE HELP, SOMEONE REMOTELY VIEWING/SCREEN SHARING MY MACBOOK?

Hi - I urgently need help from anyone who knows about this issue - I am a very basic macbook user, and don't really know about all the different programmes etc. I believe someone ( the guy who sold me the macbook, who told me he was a mac repair person and programmer) has been hacking into the computer, using the remote access - there is a programmed called SCREEN SHARING but I cannot access it - and a bunch of other files such as odsagent etc - not sure if these indicate he is using the screen sharing/ remote access to my mac.
The reason that I believe he is accessing the mac, is that he downloaded all the files, so would clearly have access to passwords etc, there were loads of his old files, that showed pictures of people saying " target", and old files showing he was studying comuter/ mac programming. The first time I went online all of a sudden the computer froze, and two green lights showed on the num lock key and the shift key I think, the two keys were frozen, and the keyboard basically wouldnt respond, but the activity continued on the screen. This has happened a number of times since then, usually just randomly the keyboard freezes, and if you wait a while it goes back to normal - the mouse works fine, then one day it keep sort of freezing/ getting stuck/ pausing for no reason - the next day its fine again. He put in a load of software, which he has obviously been able to get round the need of liscening numbers, as he did not provide me with them. one day I saw a name "macbook pro" suddenly appear, and that it was tryin to connect/ share or something - this has never happened to me before with my old mac- it was like another computer was connecting/ sharing with my computer without my permission - this was when I was online. This has not happened since.
I am scared he is accessing the computer, because these things that happened, and because there is loads and loads of files and programmes, which sound suspicious, i dont know what they do, and I just have this dogey feeling about this guy, and the fact that there is screen viewing/ remote management files etc which I cant access, but I am not sure if they are being accessed.
PLEASE HELP - I FEEL LIKE MY PRIVACY IS BEING INVADED - I was speaking to my family on Skype and the green lights came on/ it froze, I continued with the conversation, but later I felt like he might have been watching.
If anyone can recommend an expert in the London area, that can check the mac to see there is nothing on there that is being used to remotely control/ screen share my mac, I would be very grateful - its just horrible using your computer, and always being worried someone is invading your privacy, and and downloading your files etc.
Sorry if I sould paranoid, but I have a strong feeling something is not right here.
Many thanks for your help in advance.

Since you don't know much about computers, disconnect your internet (wireless or wired) to prevent future unwanted access. While it is smart to contact Apple Communities, this is a criminal matter and you should consider taking the matter to the police. People like this will not stop with you. You need to list the private data that may be stolen and take action (cancel credit cards, change passwords, bank accounts, phone numbers, whatever you have cause to be worried about). If you can afford it, buy a new hard drive, remove the old one, and install OS X from scratch. Give your old hard drive to the cops. Make sure you turn the Firewall on (click the Apple up on the toolbar top left > System Preferences > Security) and uncheck any "Sharing" options (System Prefernces > Sharing). This event you are experiencing is unfortunate, and rare, but with a pro-active attitude you will come through it fine - and wiser.
    EDIT
dgambler is right in that by purchasing a Snow Leopard disk (presuming you don't already have one) and performing a fresh install (it is easy) is a sure way to "take back" the controls of your Mac. You will need to study online tutorials for "wiping the drive" rather than a simple install. But you should let the police look at the hard drive before you do that - they will be able to see exactly what this person did.

  • Screen Sharing issues MacBook Pro Retina

Loving my brand spanking new MacBook Pro Retina 15" running Mavericks. Display set to 1900x1200. The only thing it doesn't do, is play full screen YouTube video from my Mac Mini (2011), as soon as I put that in full screen mode on the Mini. Mouse and keyboard no longer respond, the only option is to wait untill it is finished or use the controls on the Mini. My screen sharing is set to all adaptive settings.
What I have done to do checks:
    remote control MacBook Pro Retina from Mini (same settings for screen sharing, resolution on Mini is 1080p) and play full screen HD YouTube video: no issues, scaling works flawlessly;
    check all network settings on both computer - no issues, both connecting full speed (400mpbs), wireless file exchange proves this;
    reinstalled Mavericks both on the macbook and Mini;
    removed all plists and preferences on both machines;
saved files to external HD, emptied harddrives, and clean installed Mavericks on both(!) computers
Installed all updates to december 12th 2013 (including the december screen sharing update).
All to no avail. So I figured to draw some new variables in the equasion and do some control testing.
I have done a test from an older MacBook Pro 17" (2010), display set to 1900x1200 as well. No problem at all controlling either computer. Scaling works flawlessly. Dito from an older iMac 21" running Mountain Lion. Like a charm, correctly scaling to meet the screen and network confitions.
So I figured shrinking the size of the application window on the MacBook to about 1/4 of the surface, and guess what: there she flies. Enlarging the application window on the MacBook Pro has a linear effect on the responsiveness of the screen sharing application, trying to view full screen video the Mini.
Verified this by controlling the older MacBook Pro 17" (1920x1200) from the MacBook Pro Retina 15". Confirmed that the above problems persist. Shrinking the screen again smoothens things out.
This quite definite to me, it is the screen sharing application that is not able to handle scaling on the hardware or interact with the software drivers of the Intel Iris Pro/NVidia GeForce GT750M combo. I hope this gets fixed soon!!

Setting Low Res on the apps didn't seem to help, however (as has been mentioned elsewhere) changing the display settings to non-HDPI does fix it, for GoToMeeting at least.  (Also it let's you appreciate how nice the retina display is, in case you've already gotten used to it!)
You need an app for that however.  SetResX from http://www.sendspace.com/file/mef6sk works well for me.  To return to nice Retina/HDPI mode you have to go back to Display Preferences (and the "Show in Menu Bar" option for Display Preferences is sadly AWOL in Retina/Lion so you have to navigate through System Preferences.)

  • Problems screen sharing w/ MacBook

I'm new to networking, so I hope someone can lead me in the right direction. I have a new iMac Intel running Leopard. I also have a MacBook2,1 running Tiger. They both are on my Airport Extreme network.
I can screen share from my iMac to my MacBook, but not the other way around. When I try to access my iMac from my MacBook I get the dreaded beachball for about a minute then it won't connect. I have "file sharing" and "screen sharing" enabled in my system prefs on my iMac.
    Am I missing something here?

I've got it answered, you just can't screen share from Tiger to Leopard. You can do it the other way though. Check out this thread:

  • I have a Macbook buyed in New York, Central Park store in january/2009. The screen in start show double screen and then nothing, black screen. I checked the system and is OK, the diagnostic is the screen. Have apple a spare screen???

I have a Macbook buyed in january/2009 in New York in Apple Central Park Store.
When I start the computer appears a double scren, then a few of background and then black screen, ilumitated but black screen.
Perhaps that is a screen fail. Could you please tell me if Apple have spare screen? Can I get a screen, perhaps with some program to assit to customer from Apple?
    Thank you
    Ivan Betancourt

    Ivan,
This may not be a failure of the screen.
Try a SMC reset, as described here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Please post back if this does not help. Are you located close to an Apple Store?

  • Macbook black screen, white light, no chime and more problems

When I completely shut down my Macbook (regular starting 2009) and turn it back on I see the white light only and black screen. Nothing works! this has happened two times and I pressed the power button for 10 seconds to do a PMC reset and it actually turned on and past this week I've been pressing SHIFT+PWR button to turn on my Macbook.
Also, when my macbook wakes up from sleep it takes a while to get back up and sometimes the sound dosen't work although I see the devices in the Audio MIDI.
Does this mean my logic board is going bad or is it a NVRAM problem? I tried resetting the NVRAM but it didn't work!

Have you tried running the Apple hardware test?  Run the extended test, which can take over an hour.

  • Lync 2013 desktop sharing is giving Black screen when using virtual machine

    Hello,
We have a user who is connecting our network through VPN and connecting to a virtual machine. He is able to login to lync but when he start desktop sharing or some one sharing the desktop to him, he is getting black screen. He is using windows 7 and Lync
    2013 client. Please advice

    Hi,
Did he receive any error message?
Please double check the ports for VPN traffic.
Please also enable logging on Lync client for further troubleshooting.
What’s more, when users connect to the corporate network using a VPN client, Lync media traffic is sent through the VPN tunnel. This configuration can create additional latency and jitter because media traffic must pass through an additional layer of encryption
and decryption. The issue is compounded when the VPN concentrator is busy.
    You can configuration like this:
Lync client connect to the Access Edge Server for all signaling connections when on the corporate VPN. However, Media sessions routed through the A/V Edge Server interface instead of establishing connectivity through the VPN tunnel.

  • Touchpad screen unresponsive and also black screen

Today, I updated my touchpad to the latest version. So during installation, I let it run and left it plugged into an outlet. However, when I came back to it an hour later, I just saw a black screen. I was able to reboot and see the HP logo again. But after booting, and seeing the lock screen logo, the screen would go blank after a few seconds. I did the USB recovery mode as well but I was presented with the PIN entry screen and I couldn't enter my PIN as well.
Any ideas on how to resolve this?
This is a brand new Touchpad and the only thing done here was update from the original firmware to a newer update and then now to the latest update.
I searched online and can't find anybody with a similar issue as this.
Also, tried using WebOS doctor but am stuck at the part where it is suppose to detect the Touchpad and cannot press "Next" to continue.
Post relates to: HP TouchPad (WiFi)

When you said "USB recovery mode", do you mean you tried to use the webOS doctor to restore it?
I'd try a simple reboot again (press and hold both the center button and the power switch together for over 15 seconds), and if this doesn't work, then the webOS doctor.
If the doctor doesn't work, and the device is still unresponsive, then call HP for a repair/replacement.
See my post at the top of this section on "How to doctor a TouchPad" for instructions.

  • Screen sharing goes to white screen

When using ichat and asking to share screen, the screen goes white on the other person's computer and they cannot see my screen.  In short the screen sharing feature only seems to work one way.  I can see their screen they cannot see mine.  Thank you in advance to anyone who can help me out.
    Ken

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iPod fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - If still not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • G575 Screen/booting problem - black screen on monitor until windows is fully loaded

    Hi
I have searched online but can't find a similar thread. My laptop went blue the other day (as all pcs/laptops seem to do eventually) and I unplugged the power and rebooted.
The problem I have had since is that on my laptop, it's just a black screen (no windows logo or anything, or boot screen) until windows loads fully. So my laptop is working - it's just that there's no display until it's loaded.
I have my laptop connected to a tv also, as a secondary monitor. On there, the windows logo appears, everything works fine. I can see the boot screen and the windows is loading display. But not on my laptop - just black until windows has loaded. I have windows 7.
I restored my system to it's intial state using one key recovery but it has not solved the problem. It is worrying because I'm scared that soon my monitor will not even display anything even when windows has loaded.
    Any ideas/advice?
