IChat shows all of my buddies as offline.

Since I updated my itunes to itunes 8 I've been having issues with ichat/AIM. When I start up iChat (AIM) it shows me as available, yet all of my buddies are listed as offline. I know they are online as I have logged onto a trillian account on a pc and seen all of my usual buddies online. Any help on finding a solution will be much appreciated.

I have the same problem for about a week. Have used iChat for years. At first the buddy list just disappeared. Then, it came back, but grayed out. Buddies can't see me on their end even though I show available. I tried to access my buddy list using Adium, same problem. Then I tried accessing by web based Meebo, same thing. The buddy list is there but appear offline. I don't know of any changes except possibly automatic software update by Apple. Something else I notice, when I attempt to chat, the window displays "Unencrypted Chat" in the top buddy line for about 5 seconds. I don't remember seeing that before, but I could be wrong.

I know for a fact most of my friends are online and Ichat shows they are offline. My buddies have tried to IM me with no avail, even though technically I am online at the time. I have tried EVERYTHING. disabling my name, trying out a new AIM, reopening it, everything. What is up? Every time I try to write to someone, it says there was an error with AIM. So many people seem to have issues with Ichat. it bugs me. Anybody actually know how to fix this?

Hi,
To change the port you have to Log out first (in the Account Info tab there is a "Use this Account" to Deselect)
Then the Text and port info should be dark and editable.
Also try it without the SSL option

IChat shows all my buddies off line but they can still see and message me

So the other day all of my buddies disappeared from my buddy list. This has happened before and I just restarted the program and it was fine. I assumed it was some glitch that appeared after having the program running for a while.
This time I restarted the program and nothing happened.
So all my friends can see and message me, I can change my status, and they can see it. Once I get an IM from them I can have a normal chat. I can log into any service, AIM or even my gmail chat, and I still have this problem.
I haven't changed anything in my preferences or downloaded any new programs.
I updated all software in case that was the problem and restarted. Nothing.
I've been perusing the discussion boards and it was suggested to change the port (to 443). I did this, and again nothing.
Also it suggested deleting com.apple.iChat.AIM.plist and .iChatagent. Both of which I did. And again nothing...
I am going to visit the geniusbar in three days but I would like to fix this before then. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!

Ichat showing all generic AIM running man buddy icon

Hi,
Not sure what happened today but now iChat is only showing the generic yellow AIM icon for all my AIM buddies. I deleted all the cache and pref files and nothing helped.
I installed iChat streaming icon today but it was working fine. Now all of a sudden all my buddies are showing up as the yellow running man>?
Help.

Hi Jungle Juice,
Welcome to the Apple Discussions
Make sure port 5190 is open to the UDP protocol.
This includes the Mac Firewall if On
The Modem and any router you have.
If it is open in the Modem make sure that it points to the IP your computer has if you are using Port Forwarding with DHCP
Go to Users/(your account)/Library/Caches and then com.apple.iChat.pictures This is a folder. Inside delete the .plist there.

Ichat will open but no buddies are shown

Hello,
i have had a mac laptop since june and have been using ichat every single day successfully, today i logged on and it showed my offline buddies but would not show my online buddies. i xed out and restarted ichat numerous times and then it finally disconnected me due to an aim server issue and me ( summer1256) logging in to many times. i then tried my aim account on a pc and it worked fine showing all of my buddies. what do i do! help!

This happened to me the other night. I just restarted my computer and all was well again.

My ichat shows it is logged in but all my buddies say that Iam not online

So I turn my ichat on...it shows all my friends that are online etc but it shows my friends that I am not online. Then when I try to ichat them....it says I need to be logged in...but I am logged in.
Help please:)

More on Klaus' idea.
Do you use another application that can use the AIM service that has an Invisible setting ?
Also check your iChat > Preferences > Accounts section > Security tab and check the Block List and the Allow lists.

IChat 4.0 shows up with no buddies and error message

I can see the AIM buddy list through ichat 4.0 and it says "available" but then shows all my buddies offline when that is incorrect. after a while it gives an error message saying i have tried logging in too many times and to try again later. please help!!!

Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443.
Log back in again.

Also try turning Off Face Time
Open Face Time
Go to the Preferences
Set it to Off.
Also make sure your router has the Time and Date/Time Zone set as this upsets Face Time which in turn upsets IChat

I dont see all my online buddies on iChat

So im using ichat for my aim because when i download aim for mac, it closes unexpectedly. but when i sign onto ichat i dont see all of my buddies thats online.

I need to delete a bookmark to a site that no longer exists. Since it won't load, I don't get the star. Since it's not in a folder, it won't show on the Show All Bookmarks page. grrrr.

When I pull up the Show All Bookmarks window, I only see bookmarks already placed in folders, not the uncategorized ones.
The star option only works when the bookmark can actually be loaded.
How do I delete a bookmark that is now a broken link but not placed into a folder?

A possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

You should see the star even if the bookmark doesn't load. You can try offline mode (File > Work Offline).

Lightning bolt icons next to mailboxes in the Mail sidebar identify accounts that are offline.
To take an account online, click the lightning bolt icon. Or choose Mailbox > Online Status > Take [account name] Online, or Mailbox > Take All Accounts Online.
If you can’t take an account online, make sure you’re connected to the Internet. If a warning icon appears after the account name, click it for more information.

Messenger says my iPhone buddies are offline?

On my Macbook my messages app has not worked for weeks. It always says all my "buddies" are offline when they are not (I end up using my iPad or iPhone). First world problems I know, but it is really starting to annoy me.
I've quit the app multiple times and have restarted my computer with no luck. Any way to solve this problem?

If it's lock, Wi-Fi is switched OFF. The ringing is that the line is trying to connect.
If it's stolen the chance of locating it is very, very small. You can try sending message or totally wipe it so no data can be stolen.
Now, report to the police, carrier and change all your passwords that are used on iPhone.

Outlook Client not showing all emails

Hi,
We have signed up for emails on domains.live.com for the domain name kamtress.com
We setup Outlook clients in our office using IMAP.
But the outlook client does not show all emails and also shows lots of copies of sent emails while we would have sent only one.
Could you please help us out with this issue as to how this can be rectified?
We use Outlook 2013 on Windows 7.

First of all, please make sure your Outlook is fully patched.
Then, please log on your web mail and check if you can see all your emails. If so, please open your Outlook, go to File > Info > Account Settings > Account Settings > Highlight your Imap account and click
Change > in the Change Account wizard, check how you set the 'Mail to keep offline' slider. Change it to
All and then check if you can see all your emails in Outlook now.
If problem persists, please try to create a new mail profile in Control Panel and set up your IMAP account in the new profile to check if it helps. To configure an email account via IMAP, please refer:

IChat showing negative idle times

I also posted in the iChat forums, but am posting here just in case it's an OS issue.
Recently had a machine revert to 1970, changed the time (network now), correct time zone, etc... all is working well, but now my iChat shows idle time as negative. For example Idle (-177 hours).
Does anyone know how to correct this?

Hi Socokid,
The Idle time is one that does not show up in any of the .plists directly.
It will either be com.apple.ichatAgent.plist or com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist
Delete them one at a time and restart iChat.
