IChat shuts down when attempting video chat or preferences...

When I invite someone to video chat, or someone invites me, the green iSight light comes on and then chat shuts down completely. This also happens when I try to go to my chat preferences. I get this message:
Application Specific Information:
* Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSInternalInconsistencyException', reason: 'Failed creating colorspace for index (9)'
Has anyone else had this problem? I have tried restarting and software updating, but I can't do too much more without even being able to get in my preferences.......

Yes I saw that kellyRAWR mentioned that they were using AIM.
And Tony explained about the AIM 5.9 issue.
I was merely offering another option that she may not know about, since the AIM->iChat is flaky at best.

I have a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard v 10.6.8 and have put on all the security updates.
I bought this machine just days after the newest MBP's were released with Lion because I wanted to stay with Snow Leopard
From the very beginning I would have occasional "gray screens" with a message that I'd encounterd a problem and needed to shut down. It always occured while I was watching a streaming video online (Flash?) but it didn't always happen. I updated my Flash plugin and that seemed to help. I use both Safari and FireFox and both are now updated to the latest versions.
I had also noticed via iCleanMemory that my memory availability was very low .....I always have many tabs open in my browsers and have backup software that backs up to online storage running and when I watched a video, it dropped to almost 0 and everything ran slow. I had 4 GB Ram.
So, I ordered new ram and put that in and now have 8 GB. Machine runs fast. Love it....except it keeps giving me that veil of gray and the message to shut down. It happens several times a day now and while usually in conjunction with watching a video clip, it's not always the case. But I have lots of available memory. That wasn't the issue.
I found an Apple Support paper relative to needing a video update on some mid 2010 MBP's and downloaded it. It won't install and says it won't run on my system so that didn't help.
I'm at my wits' end trying to keep this thing running. Everytime I have to shut it down it means a minimum of 8 min...sometimes more.....before it will restart. If I try to restart sooner than that, it begins to boot and then just has lines and lines of numbers and code running across it....and often continuous beeping sounds and I have to hold the button down to shut it off again. If I wait long enough, it does boot back up and sometimes runs fine as long as I'm not watching video clips, a streaming tv show or clicking on a lot of links in web pages.
I don't believe it has shut down when I was doing anything that wasn't web related....i.e. on a browser. And, when I was running with only 4 gb ram, it rarely shut down, just ran very, very slowly. Now with 8 gb ram it is speedy but doesn't seem to want to keep working!
Anyone have any ideas what I should try next?

Thanks for your reply.
I have been closing iCleanMemory but the shut down (kernel panic) was still happening. Not sure how to go about uninstalling it as it's one that runs at start-up and dragging it to the trash might not get rid of it completely. I"ll find it's web site and see if they have any info.
Haven't checked your web link yet (it's late and gotta get to bed) but will do so tomorrow.
I also run Backblaze and DropBox that begin at startup and are constantly updating in the background, iStatMenus and Sharpshooter.
The kernel panics were happening....tho much less frequently.....before i put iClean Memory on. If I remember right, I installed it just because I had those periodic shut downs and wondered if it was a lack of memory. Because I then saw that memory was very low all the time, I decided I must need to put more memory in. And that seems to have made the issue worse while also making the machine work faster for the time it is running.
Now, I've been working on here for a couple of hours and had no problem at all......but I haven't asked it to play any kind of video. Before I quit for the night, I'll try to watch the last one I tried that caused it to shut down and see if it does it again.
I do appreciate your help as I have just enough knowledge about these things to be dangerous.

MacBook shuts down when streaming video

I use safari, so my assumption is the problem lies there. I did a software update in January along with upgrading to snow leopard but this problem has been happening since before then.
Its only a few years old and the only thig that's wrong with it is the battery is dead and needs replaced but I have my charger plugged in 24/7. would that have anything to do with streaming video?
Has this ever happened to anyone?

I've found that the computer only shuts down when streaming netflix.
I can play videos on youtube or vimeo long periods of time without the computer crashing.
When streaming netflix, the computer turns off within 5 minutes or less usually.
I have the newest version of silverlight installed and older versions deleted from my hd.
Does this information point to another or more specific problem?
Have others experienced a similar issue with regard to netflix or silverlight?

N200 shuts down when attempting to encode tra

I've got a Muvo N200 with which I have a problem.
When I try to encode tracks using the line-in it just shuts down when I try to choose that option. I go into the menu, use the jog wheel to scroll to the encoding option and the I press the jog wheel. Result: the player shuts off. I tried just scrolling to the option and pressing the play/pause button, but then it just exits the menu.
I have not upgraded the firmware on the player since I bought it, so it's fresh out of the box.
Anyone who's got a solution? Will upgrading the firmware do the trick?

Where can I find that firmware version? I can only find .6.02. And also, I tried updating to that firmware, but I don't know if it actually had any effect. When I ran that firmware update, the only way I got the New Hardware Guide-dialog to come up was if I removed the battery from the unit before I did the hold-play-button-and-then-connect-to-PC routine. Then it ran the Player Recovery stuff and then I unplugged it and it turned on just fine. However none of the tracks I had on it previously were delted. They were all intact after the upgrade. So the question is if the upgrade actually took effect.
Anyway, the encode option doesn't work now either. The reason I want to use this option is I want to be able to use the player for recording interviews using an external mic.
Also, in Explorer in WinXP the Creative Media Explorer says that the player isn't connected, while it obviously is as it shows up as a removable disk.

ITunes Shuts Down when Loading Videos

I have a 120 gig iPod Classic, and just recently I started having problems with it. Now whenever I try to load a movie from iTunes to my iPod, iTunes shuts down right when the video is almost done loading onto my iPod. I have no problems with music, or even when I load videos from another computer. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Are you trying to sync them from the photos tab?
If so, try importing the videos into itunes and then syncing them from the movies tab.
You'll also want to uncheck 'Sync Videos' in the photos tab.

ITunes shuts down when attempting to sync iPod nano (4th gen)

Ever since I upgraded to iTunes8, I haven't been able to sync my iPod nano.
When I plug the nano into my laptop, iTunes pops up as usual, but then immediately stops working. A box reading: itunes has stopped working pops up, then the program closes automatically.
I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling, resetting the iPod and trying to restore the iPod to get new stuff on it, but iTunes just shut down again as it was starting to restore the iPod.
SO- I have lost everything on my iPod-- I can't use it for anything! It's really frustrating, and I'm not sure what to do at this point!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!

ITunes shuts down when attempting to use Visualizer

Just downloaded Windows 7. Having compatibility issues. Keep getting message to turn off compatibility mode, but have no idea how to do that in Win 7.
Also, as subject line indicates, when I turn on Visualizer the iTunes program immediately shuts down.

IE shutting down when streaming video

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting so please be kind. I only have a basic knowledge of computers so please don't lose patience with me for not being a techie or understanding the language. I recently purchased a Satellite C855d-S5320 and I'm having a problem streaming video. I like to watch Shameless and in order to do so I had to download Widevine. After about 30 to 40 mins the video becomes lagged and then a window pops up stating that the program isn't responding and has to shut down. After restarting, it happens again but only after 5 to 10 min. By this time I'm so frustrated that I give up and hope it works the next day. Which of course it doesn't. I don't understand what is going on as this is a new laptop and I haven't junked it up with anything. It runs Windows 8 and IE 10. Can someone please help me so I can catch up on this season of Shameless? Thank you for any help you can offer.

I'm sorry I should have mentioned that I tried that already. I even uninstalled Widevine and reinstalled it thinking that perhaps that was the problem, but IE keeps shutting down. I've been to MS and I must admit they weren't much help. I guess I was just hoping that someone else had this problem and could offer a solution. Thank you for your reply, I greatly appreciate it.

MBP shuts down when watching videos or playing games..

The infamous first post - I know.
So I've been having this problem with my Macbook Pro that I received from my college for my Advertising program. When I am watching videos or even playing simple online games, after awhile the screen darkens from top to bottom and then the multi-language message comes up and tells me to restart my computer.
I decided to post this here to find out if this is a common problem, or if I should seek some kind of support help. I'm a little weary of IT here at my college because one of my professors informed my class that they are a bit reimage-crazy.
Anyways, I would really appreciate anyone's input..

Powermac G4 shuts down when attempting to intall retail version of OSXTiger

Hello everyone!
I just bought a retail version of Max OS 10.4 Tiger/Family Pack and am having difficulty installing it on a PowerMac G4/PCI graphic model currently running OS10.1.
Every time I try to install, it prompts me to restart. I proceed to so and then the computer goes through the thinking grey screen and then the blue screen and then just turns off. I have tried restarting with the C key and I get the same result.
I did upgrade the optical drive to a CD_RW taken from a newer mac. Don't know if this has something to do with it. I checked for firmware updates on the apple website which indicates that this model does not need it. I am at a loss!
I would greatly appreciate any help in this matter.

hmmm...
weird.
the fact that you booted from the restore disc fine suggests that it's a problem with the tiger install dvd. but the fact that you've already used that successfully twice says it's not.
basically there's only so many thing that can go wrong with an installation:
1. installer disc (defect) (rare)
2. processor (not too common really)
3. RAM (pretty common, os x is really picky with RAM which is why apple is too)
4. hard disk drive (really common)
and the obscure #5. optical drive (pretty rare, cause usually you would know if this was busted.
1.so we can assume that your dvd is fine
2. and your processor as well if you're running 10.1 on it already but
3. it's definitely worth tracking down the appropriate apple hard ware test to test the RAM 'and' the processor. there are some third party options for this but the machine in question is pretty old (we'll have to look into that)
4. we can assume that the hdd is ok since verification was successful (did you check the s.m.a.r.t. status too.
5. and the fact that you were able to boot from the original says the optical drive is fine.
how much space is free on the 10gig drive (which is where tiger is going right?) because the thing to try would be to copy the whole disc to the hard drive, could take a few minutes : )
this is a way to check the disc/dvd, the optical drive, and the destination all in one.
i'll look into the hardware test,

Debug unknow error message followed by shut down when attempting to render nested timeline

Premiere Pro CS3 using AspectHd v5.0 build 88
My PP3 gives me an unkonwn error message in a debug window everytime I try to render my timeline that has one 2 seconds clip of another nested sequence...!?!
It occurs at about a fifth of the 1st of 2 audio preview render that it has to do.
I usualy did have problem rendering file with PP2 cause of Premiere's system memory bug, but never I've add trouble before in PP3...until well now.
What is the problem? Anybody experiencing that bug also?

The project in which this problem occurs is about 1 TB of footage in AspectHD Low HD; there's 37 tape captured in batch and recomposed on a different sequence for each tape to compensate for the lost of timecode when digitazing with CINEFORM (so 37 nested time line).
I use those nested timelines as if I was picking shots from a huge clip that captured the whole tape.
Of course Premiere ask me the render the sequences nested in addition to the main one in which I edit footage...
I'm currently editing a trailer and wanted to render 2 clip that were sampled from 2 different sequences, but PP3 has the bug windows at 10,51% and closes. The text in the debug window is that "Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 has encountered a problem and needs to close. Sorry about..."
If you need anymore info please ask what specificaly, cause I would be at a lost to add more...:)

ITunes shuts down when trying to play video

My iTunes software shuts down when I try to play a video from my iTunes Library or from the iTunes Store site. I have backed up the library and have tried to reinstall iTunes, but when I did the entire library reappeared and the same problem exists. My Quicktime does work and iDVD, too, with home movies, other online streaming and DVDs, So I'm sure that the problem is with iTunes.
