IChat signs off when I am away

Hello, this is minor problem with iChat, and really doesn't affect the overall performance of the program, but it is kind of annoying considering I can't stay online when I am away from the computer.
Here is the senario:
I put my away message on and then get up and leave the computer. The screensaver then comes on followed by 'sleep' mode. When the computer goes into 'sleep' mode, iChat signs off. It only does this when I physically leave the computer. If I am sitting at my computer with the away message on, then I have no problem staying online.
Sometimes it does this and oddly at other times it stays online without any problems. It is a problem that bugs me, but isn't too big of a deal. If the problem persists I'm considering downloading a version of AOL Instant Messanger for Mac. Does anyone have any suggestions or comments?
Thank you, I appreciate your responses.

Issue or symptom
After upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.8, some Intel-based computers may not auto-connect to remembered networks that use WPA2 or WEP security. This article explains how to correct this behavior.
Products affected
Macs with Intel Core Duo-based processors:
MacBook
MacBook Pro (all models)
Mac mini (Early 2006)
iMac (Early 2006)
Mac OS X 10.4.8
Solution
To restore the auto-connect feature:
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
Select the Network pane.
From the "Show:" drop-down menu, choose "AirPort".
Make sure the "By default, join:" pop-up menu is set to "Preferred networks." (If it was set to "Automatic networks", you can set it back to Automatic after the next step.)
Select any network that shows WPA2 security and use the minus button to remove those networks from the list.
Once all WPA2 networks have been removed from the list, use the plus button to add them back. (You will need the appropriate passwords for the wireless network.) If it's more convenient, you can wait to re-add the networks until you use them—when you use a network, it will be added to the list automatically.
If in step 3, your default was Automatic rather than Preferred, go ahead and change your default back to Automatic.

  • IChat signs off when screen saver comes on

If I ever leave my computer for the 10 minutes or so that it takes for the screen saver to come on, I'm kicked offline. When I get back to the regular screen it automatically signs me back on, but I want to stay online the entire time, not sign off and sign back on. Even if I change my screen saver settings to a longer period of time before it comes on, my computer still goes into some energy saving mode after only a few minutes, kicking me offline.
Is there a way to prevent this?

My Screen saver on my XP (BootCamp) nor my MacBook Pro in OS 10.5.1 do not do this.
I see nothing in Screen Savers or Energy Saver that would cause this.
It is almost like your computer is thinking it is Asleep whilst still displaying the Screen Saver. (Macs always cut Network connections on Sleep)

  • IChat signs off when I log on

    Hi All,
When I sign onto iChat, it will pop up fine, but within 10 seconds it will sign me off. Any ideas on how to get it to quit? I am running 3.0.1 and Tiger and I have iProfile installed.
    Best Regards,
    Michael

    HI Michael,
iProfile is not needed in iChat 3 as it has it's own profile part.
I would start by delelting this Add-on.

  • IChat signs off/on sporadically, one SN doesn't sign on

    Hello,
For the past several months, whenever I open my iChat it seems to affect my airport connections; iChat will sign off and on at least five times in a minute, and at the same time my connection to other internet applications is lost. I know this isn't a problem with my wireless because it has occurred every where I have taken my MacBook, and it seems that whenever I do not open iChat at all after starting my macbook, I don't lose connection at all.
In preferences, I do not have the "Connect using proxy" option checked, but the server and port bars above that are filled (port: 443, server: login.oscar.aol.com).
How do I solve this continuous signing off/on, internet disruption problem...?
ALSO, iChat won't allow me to sign on to one of my screen names, but it will let me sign on to others. The message I get when I try to sign on to this particular screen name is this: "LOST CONNECTION WITH AIM: The connection to the host was unexpectedly lost." I can sign on to this screen name on AIM on my other PC just fine....
Any offered solutions/suggestions to these two problems would be appreciated very much!

  • TS1398 Wifi turns off when I get away from router

    Hi all,
I've had an Iphone for about 2 1/2 years now. Working real good until recently... it will only recognized a wi-fi connection when I'm close to any router. As soon as I walk away, back to 3G, and that happens everywhere there is a wi-fi.
    I need your help, please!

If you are having WiFi problems it is necessary to isolate whether the problem is with your network or your iPad. Note: Do NOT consider your network to be blameless if some other devices can connect to it.
First, test your iPad on some other WiFi networks: a friends, Starbucks, Barnes & Noble, etc.
If it works well there then the problem is probably with your network. Try restarting your WiFi router by removing power for 30 seconds. If that does not help check for a firmware update for your router. If none exists which corrects the problem consider replacing the router.
If your iPad does not function well on other networks it possibly has a hardware problem. You could try Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings to see if that corrects the problem. If not, contact Apple Support or visit an Apple store for evaluation. They can provide a replacement if your iPad is bad.
If you need more help please give the make, model, and version of your WiFi router and how you have it configured.

  • IChat Signs off of AIM all the time.

I am constantly getting kicked off of AIM through iChat. I have tried downloading AIM for mac through their site and with there software I still get kicked off constantly. My roommate has the same MacBook as I do and he never gets kicked off AIM through either application. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, I still get disconnected. Anyone know why this is happening and how to fix it?
    thank you,
    Vito

    Hi,
Ok Software Updates are only the bits that are different between the last update and the one you are doing (referred to as Deltas).
Now if you have to do a Reinstall back to your Install Disks then You get offered a Combo install to take you straight to the latest level.
You can also get them without using Software Update from the Apple Downloads page.
Reinstalling iChat from the Install Disks takes you back to the level that Install disk was. Possibly are far back as 10.4.0 at the start of Tiger.
All but tow of the iChat updates have been in the OS updates so your iChat could be out of step so to speak.
    See list here http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/
Get the Combo for your type of Mac.
In the Case of an Intel that is the Combo 10.4.10v1 which includes the Audio correction.

  • Iphone 4s-when wifi is off and I am away from my home connection can I receive and send texts and text messages?  I want to keep my wifi off to limit data (email etc) to when I want to check it.  Cellular is roaming"voice only" it says. Can I get texts?

When my wifi is off and I'm away from my home connection - it shows wifi off (unless I turn it on to check my email etc.) - and in the settings cellular it shows "voice only". Will I be able to receive and send texts in those settings?  Or check voicemail.  I had wanted to keep my email from coming in all the time and only want to check it periodically - so I turn ON my wifi when I want to check my email.  But when my wifi was off away from home- I hadn't seemed to be getting my texts.  So- do I need to keep wifi roaming connected when away from home to receive and send my texts in real time.  (which is what I want) or am I still able to send and receive texts with my wifi off when I'm away from home.  (When I'm home I am connected to my home data plan automatically through wifi and I get texts when I'm home - but I'm thinking I'm not getting texts in real time - is it because my wifi is off when I'm away from home?  My cellular shows voice only when my wifi is off away from home.  Am I doing it right to receive and send texts away from home?  Or do I need to open up the wifi in order to receive and send text messages.  I know that I would need to turn on wifi roaming - which will use data - for email checking or sending - as well as to use browsing apps and now I'm guessing to receive voice messages I may have missed?  So do I need wifi on to receive texts too?  Thank you - GregorySC

    Hello GregorySC,
In order to send and receive SMS or MMS messages, you will need to have an active cellular data or Wi-Fi connection.
You will need these to send and receive iMessages:
An iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    iOS 5.0 or later
A cellular data connection or a Wi-Fi connection
A phone number or Apple ID registered with iMessage in Settings > Messages

  • Ichat signs me off when ive been idle for a while

if i walk away from my computer for a while, my screensaver will go on, and then sometimes the screen might even go black & ''sleep'', & when i come back, ichat has signed me off.
is there any way i can change my settings to fix this?

    Hi,
Sorry about the delay in any response.
iChat 4 will set you to Away as the Screen Saver starts.
If the Computer goes to sleep all network connections on a Mac are cut.
You mac may be able to restart from sleep faster than iChat can restart.
It may be that it will then consider the connection Dropped and you will have to Log in to AIM again.
Setting Energy Saver (System Preferences) to not let the computer Sleep may be the way around this.

i was updating to ios7 and my phone turned off and now it wont turn back on. it shows the apple sign but it slowly fades away and so on. Help!

    Hello there, RFJA2211.
The following Knowledge Base article offers up some great troubleshooting steps for unexpected power off of your iOS device:
    iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts2802
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Why the sign-off page Not Displayed when I do SSO Logout ?

    Hi All,
I am using Oracle SSO 10.1.4.1 and OID 10.1.4.1 and registering our ADF application to participate in the SSO.
When I call SSO Logout from the web application with this URL :
    http://myserver:port/pls/orasso/orasso.wwsso_app_admin.ls_logout?p_done_url=http://myserver:port/portal/page/portal/myPORTAL
It just do the Logout "Silently" and then redirect to http://myserver:port/portal/page/portal/myPORTAL.
Doesn't it should firstly display a page that shows the list of all application that will be logged-Off ?
Why that sign-off page does not get displayed ?
    Thank you for your help,
    xtanto

Looking at the product version you mentioned, I assume you are referring to Oracle Access Manager. When you configure a Logout URL, it will just end the session by killing ObSSOCookie and take you to the Logout URL as specified by the Administrator. OOTB, it wont be able to display the list of the applications you will be logged off from. This needs custom development to achieve what you are expecting. First you need to find out what all applications the user is logged in or to what all applications the ObSSOCookie session is passed and then display them on the Logout URL.

  • Ichat times out when trying to sign in

I am in Europe for the year and haven't been able to get my ichat to sign on in my new apartment. I am not good with computers and do not know where to begin with trouble shooting this problem. I have done a lot of reading on sign in problems, but I don't know enough about my internet/computer configuration to make changes. iChat does work when I try to sign on at a different location (university), so I don't think the problem is with the program itself.
    This is what I know:
I am using built-in Ethernet TCP/IP that I have configured manually. Other than iChat (or my apple mail which also times out before succesfully signing in), my internet works without problems. Following iChat help, I tried to ports on my firewall, but the firewall wasn't activated.
Any help you can give me is most appreciated. This is really driving me crazy.
    Thanks!

    Hi!
Thank you so much for your help! Changing the port on iChat did the trick. Perhaps that is the problem that is happening with my mail as well. You don't happen to have another suggestion about which port I should use to correct that problem, do you? Thanks again for the help, it is much appreciated!

  • Using 3.6.12, when I enter a bid on eBay, FF immediately signs off eBay. Never had that problem with earlier versions. I do not have this problem with Internet Explorer.

Using FF 3.6.12, I can log onto eBay, view my account, rate a purchase or win, and search for items. In other words, pretty much do anything normally on eBay.
But if I try to enter a bid on an item, the program exits eBay.com and I get the "You've Signed Off. See You Again Soon!" screen. This happens every time I try to enter or re-enter a bid.
I've been using Firefox for a few years to bid on eBay without any problems. This started as soon as I upgraded to 3.6.12 a month or so ago. Any suggestions?
I've been forced to use Internet Explorer just to get on eBay and bid now. Not nearly as fast and elegant as Firefox. Help!

To re-install Lightroom 5.4, there's no need to go back to the original full version and systematically re-install every upgrade you've ever purchased in order to re-install the latest version. All you need to do is re-install your most recent version (in this case 5.4), enter your Lightroom 5 serial number then enter your Lightroom 4 serial number when prompted. That's it.
How did you first license the Lightroom 5 upgrade on your computer? Since it's not a subscription version, you must have received a version 5 serial number somewhere in the purchasing process. Without a record of that, Adobe Customer Care may struggle with your case.
If you're running Windows, you can try running the free Belarc Advisor which often successfully retrieves your full serial number from inside your computer.

  • When I sign in to yahoo I have a custom security sign in seal that lets me know that I'm actually on yahoo and not some phoney site. Since I upgraded my firefox to the newest edition, whenever I sign off of yahoo my security sign seal disappears
