IChat song transfer VERY slow

Sometimes when my friend (who has a 2.0ghz iMac G5) tries to send me a song iChat to iChat (approx. 4Mb in size), the file transfer is very slow (one song would take about an hour). I have a 1.2 Ghz iBook G4. The weird thing is that sometimes it is slow and sometimes it works really well. Also, whenever i send my friend a song, it goes really fast (even at the times when sending songs to me is really slow). Does anybody know ways to make the file transfer speed faster?

The speeds of your machines really have little effect on the time it takes to transfer file. It all depends on the network and the connections between the two computers.
It can be a variety or problems from congestion, to the packets taking a longer router due to congestion, peak hours, etc.
So the question is, where is the file being transferred from and where is it going, as well as what type of connection does each user have? The closer the distance and faster the connection, the faster the file transfer (in most cases).

  • 8900 Bluetooth transfer very slow ?!

Hey there, i hope some1 can help me, few days I got BB 8900 , and i bought Trust Bluetooth Adapter, when I install drivers for bluetooth it was normal sending ( normal speed ) I transfer song (5Mb) in 10 sec .. but now when in try 2 transfer song it took me about 6-7 hours .. is it problem with transfer speed , i saw that somewhere on my BB or my laptop, but i cant find it now can some1 tell me is that because that speed, or something alse.. If its because that, can some1 tell me where can I change that.. 10x

Also a problem with the speed of the bluetooth transfer of BB Bold.
I paired the Bold-9700 with a Nokia XpressMusic to transfer some photos -- very slow transfer.
Tested the speed between Nokia and a PC -- satisfactory fast bluetooth transfer.
Tested the speed between the BB and the PC -- very slow bluetooth transfer.
So I ruled out the problem in the Nokia and in the PC. There might be sometihing I have missed in the settings of the BB bluetooth, that helps it work smootly. Can someone give any ideas on what can fix the problem ?
P.S. I completely rule out the idea that RIM have designed the BB Bold 9700 with such a poor bluetooth capabilities

  • Data transfer very slow on mac pro!! mac H/W unable to fit specifications.

    Hi,
I am installinginternal disks on the quad mac pro and the transfer ratet in the mac are very slow!!!
the disks are: barracuda 7200.10 disks, 500 GB. Sta II 300, max ST3500630AS firmware 3.AAE . throughput:300mb.jumpred off to get the 300.
MAC tells that the QUAD MAC Pro equipment (2x2.66ghz dualcore intel xeon) comes with a 3.Gigabit specification/ 300MB/sec. (Intel ESB2 AHCI, speed: 3.0 Gigabit. AHCI version 1.10 supported)...
And the benchmarks of the disk ST3500630AS show maximum 80MB/sec and a minimin of 37.3MB/sec, average 63.1 MB/sec. (anandtech tests).
According to seagate.com the maximum sustained data transfer rate:78MB/s
but in the mac the reallity is different: I am getting a transfer rate of 22MB/sec!!!!! . with out any application running and only making copy of the files!!!!
that means that the mac is only providing only 1/3 of the expected transfer rate for the disks..
so, is there a way that the MAC Pro gets all the normal transfer rate for those disks???
Is the Quad MAC Pro hardware unable to get the maximum throughput of the disks???
It seems that the mac is unable to get also the average transfer rate of those disks.. how to correct it???
    thanks a lot
    Alberto
ps. just for fun: I am getting a faster transfer rate from an old power pc ,and old pc, and firewire 400 and old ide disks!!! (36MB/seg!!!)

    Yup.
BThe latest Mac Pro are better, so if you have a new or 2 month old unit, Seagate should work, though I think there should be later firmware.
Some would say those drives take the cake or woRSe.

    SEAGATE PUZZLES
+Firmware version 3.AEE or later solves the slow sustained large block write speed issue for a single 7200.10 inside the Mac Pro.+
+The remaining performance issue is slow small random read speeds for one, two, three or four drives. No matter how many drives you configure in RAID 0 sets, the average random read speed for combined block sizes from 64K to 1024K is less than 30MB/s (based on QuickBench 3 testing).+
+Until Seagate fixes this, we can't recommend the 7200.10 series as the ideal boot drive for the Mac Pro (or Power Mac).+

  • File transfer very slow with a SSTP VPN

I have a serer in the office and I connect from my house through a SSTP VPN. In my home computer (client) I add a new network folder, this networkf folder is in the server, that has a shared folder. I can transfer files, but is very slow.
For example, to transfer a folder that contain about 20 files, and in total are 11MB, it takes about 3 minutes. The server has a upload bandwidth of 890kbps. With teamviewer VPN takes about 1minute with 55 seconds.
The problema with the SSTP is that the transfer speed is not stable, bteween 0-200kbps. The problema is that when has to transfer a file, always the same, the speed drop to 0bytes/s and in this state is about 1-15 seconds and continue the transfer. Why?
So the total time at the end it's much more than the time that I need if the connection was stable and used all the bandwith. How I say, teamviewer VPN takes about 1:55 inteado of the 3:00 of SSTP.
    Thank so much.

    Hi ComptonAlvaro,
Please check if we have other program is connecting the Internet when we use the SSTP.
Additionally, we could contact the ISP to check the stability of network.
Regarding the slow SSTP performance issue, we could refer to the following thread similar to this issue.
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/8e8e4220-af25-4627-bed2-47db8c04d318/sstp-and-slow-transfer?forum=winserverNIS
Please take the following steps to fix this issue:
    1. Add new registry key and value “ TcpAckFrequency=1 ” for all NICs on VPN server, so that we can reduce ACK delay.
    2. Disable Windows 2008 SNP feature, and restart VPN server
    3. Disable TCP Checksum offloading on VPN server
    Hope it will be helpful.

  • E3200 USB storage - transfer very slow

    Hello
The E3200 transfer rate I get is approximately 2.5MB/s ,
That seems very slow, especially with the n configuration, the USB3 hard drive I attached
Is there a way to improve this?
    P.S..
I'm using the latest firmware 10.0.03 (build 9)
    Thanks

Sorry, but what you write is inconsistent and confusing.
First you wrote 2.5 MB/s and 6 MB/s which means megabyte per second (which is the rate you usually see in Windows Explorer). That translate into 2.5*8 = 20 Mbit/s or 20 Mbps which is megabit per second. There is no "spare" and no "overhead" in this calculation. Transfer rates only count the contents bytes transferred and don't include overhead or anything else.
It's a fact that with a wireless connection rate of 54 Mbit/s you can expect transfer rates of approx. 20-25 Mbit/s.
I suggest you look at it again:
    1. What is the connection rate shown for your wireless connection?
    2. When transferring files, what is the exact rate shown?
Because I am pretty sure if you carefully look at the units of those rates you'll see exactly what I have posted before:
with wired you get transfer rates of approx. 6-7 megabytes (MB) per second i.e. 48-64 megabit per second (mbps).
with a wireless 54 Mbit/s connection you'll see about 2.5-3 megabytes (MB) per second, i.e. 20-24 megabit per second (mbps) because that's the maximum transfer rate to be expected on a 54 Mbit/s link.
If you had really wired transfers with a rate of 5.4 Mbps, i.e. 5.4 megabit per second that would be very bad in any respect.

  • Time machine file transfer very slow during OSX 10.7 re-install

I am using a macbook pro, and was running 10.7. (not sure exact version, and cannot look now, but should have been up to date)  I tried the free upgrade to Mavericks, but it failed and said I had a disk error.  At this point I could not boot back to 10.7 so I booted with apple-R.  I tried to do a repair from disk utility but that failed so I erased my hard drive.  Then I proceeded with an install of 10.7, which proceeded fine.  I got  to a point where it asked about transferring files, (forget the exact wording) and I said to use my time machine backup (from right before I tried the upgrade - backup was 80GB) and I started that.  It has been 16 hours and it still has not finished.  The external hard drive (Lacie)  clicks / whirs, and I see signs of very slow progress... (seems to be at about 80% now judging by the progress bar) but it can go hours without any noticeable change.  The "time remaining" information is variable -- going up and down -- and is clearly not correct-- has said 1.5 to 2.5 hours for the last 12 hours
Any ideas?  should I just wait a few more days     should I abort and restart the file transfer (if so, what is the best way to do this?)
I cannot provide details on the computer since it is still busily restoring (I hope), but it is roughly 3-4 years old, lots of free space on hard drive (>100GB),

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the word "Starting" (without the quotes.) You should now see log messages with the words "Starting * backup," where * represents any of the words "automatic," "manual," or "standard."
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Note the timestamp of the last "Starting" message that corresponds to the beginning of an an abnormal backup. Now
CLEAR THE WORD "Starting" FROM THE TEXT FIELD
so that all messages are showing, and scroll back in the log to the time you noted. Select the messages timestamped from then until the end of the backup, or the end of the log if that's not clear. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ If all you see are messages that contain the word "Starting," you didn't clear the text field.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.

  • Log and Transfer Very slow

I am just curious if it always takes a VERY long time to log and transfer clips? I moved the files off of my SDHC cards and onto my hard drive. It's about 55GB of 1920x1080/60i footage. From a Sony HXR-NX5U/NX5N. And on average it will take a 5 minute clip about a half-hour to 45 minutes to transfer into FCP. Is this a normal thing?

Not normally, no. But the NXCam cameras employ yet ANOTHER flavor...non-standard flavor...of AVCHD. This makes importing slow and difficult. I had good luck with clips 5 min or less, but longer...and it would take from 2-5 hours!
The solution is to use a third party application...ClipWrap2. www.clipwrap.com
The good thing about that solution is that ClipWrap will import the timecode from the camera...because it does have timecode that it records. But FCP...AVID...they can't find it (Sony likes to hide things apparently). But ClipWrap found it.

  • ITunes only imports half the song+running very slow!

Ok, so I've been reading through these postings and it looks as though many are experiencing the same issues! When I import a song to iTunes only portions of the file are imported, then iTunes skips ahead and downloads the next song. Also, the application runs very slowly and takes a long time to load. Are there any indications that suggest these issues will be resolved with the next update? Does anyone know when to expect the next version of iTunes? Will going to the Apple Store help my cause? I just spent $300 and I want this to work. What should I do? Also, it says I'm running v 6.0.0.18???
    hp laptop   Windows XP

Other people have been having similar problems with songs over the last few days, I assume that there has been a problem with Apple's servers.
Depending upon what country that you are in (music can't be re-downloaded in all countries) then try deleting it from your iTunes library and redownload it via the Purchased link under Quick Links on the right-hand side of the iTunes store home page on your computer's iTunes : re-downloading.
If you aren't in a country where you can re-download music or if it re-downloads in the state then try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : log into your account on your computer's iTunes via Store > View My Account and you should then see a Purchase History section with a 'see all' link to the right of it ; click on that and you should see a list of your purchases ; find that song and use the 'Report a Problem' link.

  • IPad Photo Transfer Very Slow....???

I'm using my IPad as a spare hard drive / memory chip to store all my vacation videos and photos then transfer them all to my PC in one go when I get home - the only (well, the main) problem is that the transfer rate is extremely slow.  Is this normal ?
I'm using a macbook pro with USB2 and a fat iPad cable, and transferring in Win7.  (Tried image capture in osx, it said "there was a problem" and simply stopped the import part-way through)
My other problem is that all the photos & videos are stored on the ipad in many different directories.  If I search for *.jpg or *.mp4 to group-copy all the files, it won't let me copy them.....I have to copy the contents of each directory individually....
There must be a more straightforward / quicker way than this ?

I am not sure where movies shot with camera or video camera go. I am assuming they would all go into the Photos app on the iPad.
Have you tried just syncing your iPad the normal way in OS X?
Normally, if you have photos in the Photos app on iPad, iPhoto in OS X is supposed to open and it will ask you to import the photos to iPhoto from the iPad. I believe the same is true of the video. If video is stored in the Photos App on the iPad, it should sync and copy to the iPhoto app on Mac OS X.
Once imported, you can always access the original by going to your iPhoto library and either copy the data to a new location for editing (if using different photo editor) or for video, copy those to a new location for video editing, say, in iMovie, or some other video editor.
And I agree with the previous poster, leave the images stored on the cards that it writes to so you will always have an additional backup source of photos or videos in case something goes awry when you try to use your iPad.
The iPad is not really meant to be a portable, mass storage HD just to store tons of content for dumping to a computer later.
It's more a light applications/multimedia, ereading type of device. There are new portable HD's and WiFi portable HDs that you can have connected to an iPad for mass storage use.
Look at ones by Hyper Drive, Seagate or Western Digital.
Anyhoo... Try a normal iPad sync to see if it transfers normally instead of using Image Capture.
    See if this works.
And yes, the transfer rate maybe slow, especially if you shot a lot of video and depending on the resolution you shot your photos in.
    Good Luck!

  • Song transfer speed is insanely slow

The speed of which songs are transferred to my iPod via iTunes is very slow.
When I use the iPod function within WinAmp to do basically the same thing iTunes does, load my playlist and then tell it to copy them to the iPod, it transfers my files at the rate of one song in 0-2 seconds depending on file size.
When I do the same in iTunes, it takes between 7-15 seconds per song.
This makes the difference between a sync taking 20 minutes for ~750 songs and taking 2.5 hours. It feels strange because I can dump 3 gigs on a thumb drive in like 5 minutes, so the idea of iTunes taking a few hours to do the same is an unthinkable surprise to me.

I'm doing it directly at the computer, no extension ports or hubs even.
I guess my confusion is that Winamp seemed to transfer WAY faster. The downside though is Winamp seems incompatible with the new iPod Shuffle so I can't use it. It will transfer the songs fast, but the iPod plays a voice message telling me to Sync with iTunes.
So at the moment I'm unsure if it really is a compatibility issue or if its trying to force me to use iTunes.
Either way I'm forced to use iTunes for now, and its super slow.

  • Suddenly slow song transfer to iPod

This appeared fairly suddenly, without any other symptoms; no hard disk noises or freezes or icons on the iPod screen, which are often signs of failing HD.
But now my iPod mini Blue (4G, first gen.) is very slow transferring songs from iTunes 6.0.4 to the iPod, using drag-and-drop from Library window in iTunes. Seems like USB 1.1 speeds - i.e. about same speed as transferring songs onto my Rokr cell phone: e.g., about 1 minute per 4MB song.
I also checked data transfers, using iPod as FW or USB2 hard disk, and the transfer speeds are about the same - so it's not just an iTunes thing.
Slow speeds using either FW or USB2 cables; have also tried different cables, so it's not that.
The iPod works fine: playback is good, no skipping; above all, no grinding or other problematic HD sounds. Battery lasts about 4-5 hours in normal use.
Any idea what it can be?
Tried solutions: I reformatted the HD with Disk Utility. Reformatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), with no OS 9 drivers.
I then used the latest iPod updater to update the iPod.
I also tried to use DiskWarrior 3.0.3 to optimize the HD: when I graphed the iPod HD, DW showed about 50% out of order and needing optimization. But even after optimizing and replacing directory, there was no change in transfer speed.
    Any help or advice appreciated.

Are you USB ports only 1.1 or do you have USB2 (high speed) USB ports?
If you like math, here is a previous post of mine on the subject of USB 1.1 transfer speeds with the iPod...
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=2769205&#2769205
USB1.1 is a top speed of 12 Mbps while USB2 is up to 480 Mbps, so if you have USB2 ports, just do the same math with that number.

  • Play for Sure for the Zen Xtra slow song transf

Since I updated the firmware for the Zen 60gig xtra to support the Play For Sure encryption, it has very slow song transfers. I am trying to transfer about 4500 songs. It does the first 000 normal then it is like 5 mins for each one after that. So it takes like 4 days to transfer. Is there some kind of patch or driver change I need to make?

Just an update, transfer is still goin good, so all of you that are having those hangs and slow downs this 3 hot fixes posted in this forum under the MTP Thread seem to work for me. However, being a Regional IT Manager I know that what works for one computer doesnt always apply. I remember seeing the IMPORTANT Note just before I downloaded the firmware and I thought, naw... I dont need any updates, I do my Microsoft Updates so im cool, but the hotfixes mentioned are not CRITICAL updates so you have to manually apply them. In my opinion this is not really a Creative issue since they are depending on the files from the Play For Sure protocal and those are coming from Microsoft, so they have to kind of rely on whats out there and unfortunately for us poor *******s to update. I am wondering if they can include the hotfixes in their install? SOmething that would detect to see if the hotfix is present and if not, install? Just a thought, or at least prompt you to go get the hotfix first then install.
