IChat starts and then quits right away...

The title pretty much says it all....
I start iChat/Tiger up and and I see the iChat window briefly (say, 2 seconds or so) and then the application disappears. It does not give an error message and it's process is most definitely dead when I check Activity Monitor. I should note that the iChat previously worked without any problems.
Interestingly enough, it looks like it does successfully log into AIM, because after trying to start the app 10 or so times, I got an AIM message saying that I've attempted to login too many times in too short a period of time.
Any idea what's going on? The only event I can correlate is the fact that I downloaded the newest Tiger security update this past Monday...I believe that is the only change to my computer since it was last working.
Any help is greatly appreciated!

I have the same exact problem on two brand new macs, a mac mini and an ibook g4. I tried reinstalling ichat, which made it worse; my buddy list would no longer open, instead, the little black arrow appeared under the ichat logo, and then disappeared after a few seconds. I then copied and pasted that command into the Terminal app, and here's what I got:

I would reinstall iOS 7.
Open iTunes (11.1 or later) on your computer and plug your iPhone into your computer.
Sync your iPhone with iTunes.
Click on your iPhone device and from the Summary Tab, Back up using iCloud and/or iTunes.
On your iPhone, open Settings/iCloud and turn off Find My Phone.
In iTunes, click on the Restore button on the Summary tab next to Check for Updates.
iTunes will completely wipe your phone and reinstall iOS 7.
Setup your iPhone as new and restore from your back up.
Check to see if the iTunes app is functioning correctly and not closing on you.
I did this last night when setting Limit Ad Tracking kept closing Settings and taking me back to the Home screen. After reinstalling iOS 7, the issue went away.

This is a part of the larger MacBook Pro connectivity issue. There are several related threads dealing with the MBP's networking problems. If your unit is suffering from this type of difficulty, good luck ... (or a long ethernet cable)
(PS Everybody please make noise on this one so apple comes up with a solution.)

Try this:
1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

I also tried manually underlining a few things on the new iPad and when highlighting a paragraph, it would skip a few lines and the line would go through a few as well. Looks like a major iBooks glitch needs to be addressed here.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
Isolating an issue by using another user account
If the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

T61 Fan Turns On And Then Off Right Away

When I try to boot my T61 the lights blink, the fan turns on and then after a 1 or 2 seconds the fan turns off and the laptop does not boot up. Nothing comes up on the screen, no beeps as well. I tried to boot the laptop without the hard drive and cd drive but still got the same problem. I also tried booting it up without the RAM (suggested by someone on a different forum) but on trying to do so I would get many beeps.
I started getting this problem today after my laptop froze on me while I was working so I did a hard reboot on it. It wouldn't reboot after that. I had changed my LCD screen and CPU fan around 2 months ago and the laptop was working perfect since the replacement.
Any help on this issue will be highly appreciated.

Thanks but that was the first thing I try with any issues with the app.
Seems that there was a calendar event from gmail which was an invite from a different email account.
I have 2gmail accounts tied to the calendar. I narrowed it down by removing and adding back email accounts. I then changed views and realized that it was only the today's date was having an issue and closing the app. If you have a month view it looked fine but as soon as you drilled down to that day it closed.
I went on a oral computer to see what event that was on that one gmail account and found that some linkage to the invite was corrupt. Once I removed the gcalendar event. The app worked fine.

Hi Cam,
This suggests that the iChat appliction is not communicating with the two support folders properly.
You will ned to reinstall the Application and InstantMessage.framework at least. (as it seems to know it can Video and Audio chat)
Ryan's FAQ on Reinstalling You will need athe "Hard Way" to reinstall the InstantMessage.framework folder listed in Possible Problems
After this you will certainly have to run the combo installer that mathces your OS to bring the Reinstalled parts up to match the OS.
See this list for the 10.4.2 or 10.4.3 Combos installers.
On rare occassions you have to reinstall all three bits.
App, InstantMessage.framework and VideoConferenc.framework Please be awae that the last two go/in different places in iChat 3/Tiger compared to iChat 2.x/Panther, but the FAQ tells you where.

I had to disable UPnP on my ADSL router. This is something I ma not particulary happy about, but at least I can start iChat now. Reinstalling 10.4.3 Combo did not resove the issue for me.

Whatsapp opens and then closes right away

I downloaded Whatsapp after several tries (at first I had the problem several people describe of payment declined notifications). It worked for a few days and now I can see the indicator showing that I have messages (and friends have told me they sent them) but when I press on the app icon it opens for a second and shuts down again.

The first time an iPhone is connected to iTunes that is used to sync with another iPhone or iOS device, you are prompted to transfer the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device or to set up the iPhone as a new iPhone.
The former does as provided - it transfers the backup for the other iPhone or iOS device to the iPhone replacing all data on the iPhone that is included with the backup being transferred. The latter does nothing allowing you to make your various selections for the iPhone sync preferences with iTunes.
This is designed to be done right away with a new iPhone.
If you don't have a backup for the iPhone with iTunes on your computer and don't have an iCloud backup that hasn't been updated since choosing to transfer the backup for your iPod Touch to the iPhone, the data that was on the iPhone is gone.

Acrobat Pro XI quits right away - help

Using Adobe Acrobat Pro XI Creative Cloud. As soon as I open a PDF, Acrobat quits right away, then the window for Adobe software license agreement pops up, but I can't hit "Accept." I just upgraded to OSX Mountain Lion. Other CC applications are working fine. Please help.

I contacted Adobe tech support. Here's part of my online chat, outlining what finally resolved the problem after screen sharing with the technician:
It was permission related issue.
Application Manager was not updating Acrobat as activated.
However we have deactivated all the application and activated acrobat first .
It worked then re activated photoshop.
Note: we had to deactivate and reactivate several times before it straightened out, and the tech deleted a couple files (sorry, but I don't know what they were). Acrobat is now working, so if you're stuck like I was, you may try the online chat and screen sharing with an Adobe technician.
