Ichat static issue

OK so I have been using ichat for a little over a year now and with me being in the Navy it is a great way to keep in touch with my wife and parents. I have an imac at home and a brand spankin new macbook. I talk with many different people through ichat but when i talk to my parents it does some weird things. They have the identical imac that i have but when we chat the audio comes and gos. It will work perfectly fine for like 5-10 min and then it will make like a popping sound and all i hear is static. Then it may or may not come back and forth with the static. Some days (if we are really really lucky) we get no static but then other days we get nothing but. Both of our imac's are running 10.4.11. My macbook is running leopard but and it keeps giving me that error 8 message i have read about in some of the other posts. It only gives me that error with my parents though, no one else. If anyone has any ideas please help!

Go to System Preferences > Quicktime > Streaming tab and se the speed to 1.5Mb on both computers

  • IOS 4.2.1: Intermittent Playback and Static Issue Resolution - JVC KD-AVX77

Hey guys, it appears that iOS 4.2.1 fixes the issue with the intermittent playback and static issues that I was having in my car. I just played two songs continuously with no issues.
I have the JVC KD-AVX77, and with iOS 4.1, I was having nothing but problems with music playback. It had got to the point that it was intolerable to use my iPhone in my car.
I am extremely pleased that it seems like Apple took everyone's feedback about this issue, and came up with a fix to it. Too bad that I've already stored my car for the winter.
Please post your own findings. I know this issue was across multiple head units and car manufacturers.

Same problem here. I have a 3gs and this intermitent static/hiss/lag happens when i connect through the usb on my toyota prius. This problem did not happen before the latest software upgrade. I have switched out the cables. Also tested on an ipod touch without the software upgrade and had no problem. It's a crazy annoying problem! Sounds a bit like listening to vinyl. I have also tried switching to airplane mode, but that didn't do anything. I have also reset the iphone while connected to the usb (the same way i frequently have to because of an earlier problem i've had with the usb failing to work in the car at all...) and that has not fixed it. I'm going to try connecting via bluetooth today and see what happens - i'm guessing that will be fine, but i don't like to listen via bluetooth.

  • 7940 phones ; static issues on line

    Hello,
I have a customer that has 7940 phones and about 3 out of 7 users are having static issues all of a sudden.
First thing I checked was the line cord, swapped out with known working and seemed to resolve problem - get anew line cord. Customer says still happening, can't see anything on 3550 or 3640 VG that would point anywhere. CallManager is registering phones.
Any idea where to look in either VG or 3550 for potential source?
    3550 = c3550-i9q3l2-mz.121-13.EA1a
    3640 = c3640-is-mz.123-5.bin
    Thanks.

Yes, we have a vlan for voice and one for data, the switch is set for 100/full on all ports.
    ex of a user:
    interface FastEthernet0/3
    description IP Phone
    switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
    switchport trunk native vlan 79
    switchport mode trunk
    switchport voice vlan 80
    no ip address
    duplex full
    speed 100
    spanning-tree portfast
How do you set it on the phone, looked in CCM and couldn't see any settings. I have a 7940 on my desk and couldn't see how to change it.
did --> "settings", "Network Configuration", scroll down to item40-SW Port Config" but no way to change it.
My phone display shows "AUTO" just like the user having issues bu my phone has always been OK..
Thanks for your help on this....

  • X-fi extremegamer and 5.1 headset, static issues

0X-fi extremegamer and 5. headset, static issues? Hi,
? Ive had this issue for about a year now and havent acted on it. I have a x-fi extremegamer and a LTB ac97 5. headset. I am running the latest driver for my x-fi. The issue is, whenever there is a loud sound or even if the master volume is turned up to high I get this horrible static sound. I can happen for a windows sound or explosions in a game or movie. An example of how it sounds is like (an example of an explosion in a game).....BO(PSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH). I have tried a new amp for my headset. I have sat for hours trying to find the cause. Of course the lower the volume the less likely the chance of the sound. ?I called LTB tech support and the tech said it may be that the x-fi is overdriving the speakers. Would there be a setting that would help me out. Could it be my x-fi card is shot? It happens in both xp sp3 and Vista Ultimate 32bit. Here's my rig specs.
    Abit At8
    AMD Athlon x2 4600
    4gb gskill ddr 3200
    ATI Radeon 4850
    320gb sata hd
    Creative X-fi extremegamer
Dual boot XP sp3 and Vista Ultimate 32
    Thanks for the help.

That post is totally missing the point. It directs stereo to all 6 speakers, which works with any soundcard.
The point is, ALSA can't use the other 4 speakers, with this particular soundcard, because the configuration required is Creative's secret and hasn't been discovered yet.

  • Ichat server issue

I got a macbook and everything works great except ichat. I can't for the life of me figure out how to get it to run aim, and the aim i downloaded for the mac just isn't cutting it, cause it has too many errors.
When I try to log in to aim on ichat, it says "account name or server is not valid" so I'm pretty sure this is just an issue of me not having the server configured correctly but I'm not sure how to do that either.
So if you could help that'd be great, cause I really miss having aim.

  • IChat / Keychain issue

After the most recent updated to 10.6.3, my iChat would continually prompt for my password for AIM/GoogleTalk each time I opened iChat and/or tried to connect. Even though I had selected that I wanted the password to be saved, I was still prompted each time I connected.
After reading on another board about similar issues, I decided that the iChat code must have been corrupted. Following the instructions on that thread, I did the following:
    Unstalled iChat
Re-installed iChat from Snow Leopard installation DVD
    Downloaded 10.6.2 Combo Update
In attempting to install the combo update, I was advised the it was not possible as my current drive was not compatible (which makes sense given that I'm on 10.6.3). However, each time I attempt to open iChat now, the application crashes.
    HELP!
How can I get iChat to function again (even if it means having to enter my password each time for each service)?

    Update:
Apparently, Apple likes to hide its 10.6.3 v1.1 update. I'm downloading and installing now. I have a feeling this will resolve the issue with iChat crashing.

  • Ichat Video issues after update

Hello, this is my first post so apologies if i mess anything up. My iChat has suddenly lost video chat capabilities. After perusing the forums i was unable to find a solution to my problem so i'm hopeful that someone can help me out. So far what i've been able to determine is that its saying "This computer does not support video chats" and "Slow Network" I found this odd since i had been using video chats just 24 hours earlier. I still have audio chat capabilities though. I did install a new update on my mac in that time so i didn't know if that was the cause of the issues. I am now running iChat 5.0.3 (745) and OS X 10.6.7. I have checked my download and upload speed. DL= 25.15 Mbps and UL=11.94 Mbps which i've gleaned should be more than enough. If anyone has any idea's why this is happening or how to fix it i'd welcome them.

    Hi,
At iChat Launch it will check the hardware configuration and what Internet speed is available.
The speed is written to the com.apple.ichat.plist and is used as the basis for all iChat version after that (During the time iChat is still Open)
Starting up iChat whilst the computer is doing a download will effect this.
Same if another computer on the same router is using the internet heavily (Consider On-line games on Game Consoles).
Also getting iChat to Launch On Login to the Mac may get the app to start faster than it can Establish an Internet Connection (waking form sleep is prone to this) but maybe influenced by other apps starting and using the 'Net for Update checks.
Upload speed is the crucial one.
This should not be below 128kbps ("Real World" consider 256kbps)
A restart of iChat will most likely sort this.
If it persists delete com.apple.ichat.plist form your Home Folder/Library/Preferences (Drag to Trash)
Restart iChat after this and the .plist will be recreated from defaults.
This will mean that all your changes to anything but the accounts section of the iChat Preferences will be back to Defaults (Saved Transcripts, Font, Colour IM Colour etc.)

  • IChat domain issue

I am having an issue with iChat where I can't clients to login with (username)@(domain name) when the user name is a Open Directory user account. It works fine if local account. I can get Open Dir user to login if I use a fqdn (ichat.domain name.org). I do have the domain name listed in the Host Domain's list via Server Admin tool. DNS is hosted internally off the server and Externally by a hosting provider. Seeing that the local account works just fine externally and internally, I wondering if there is something other than DNS that is causing the issue. The only error I is: ODKVerifyClientRequestFixed: Unable to authenticate.
I have search the forum and not been able to find anyone having this kind of issue. Does anyone have any ideas what could cause this issue?

    Hi,
The problem is DNS related. You need to log in with a FQDN.
[This |http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2298811&tstart=-1] is probably the most extensive thread that talks about the problem.
If you still need help after reading that - please post real details from *sudo serveradmin settings jabber*, and *sudo changeip -checkhostname*

  • 10.6.2 still hasn't solved iChat video issues

I was hoping the 10.6.2 update would help iChat to work as it should but video pixellation remains as well as audio distortion. It's disappointing that Apple can't get the basics right.

    Hi!
I´m having the exact same issue since I´ve upgraded to SL. I even upgraded from a first gen macbook air to Macbook Pro to getter performace. Instead I ended up with a iChat that pixelates and audio is totally chopped, almost useless.
I have never had any issues with this before.
I did the speed test and I had.
    6mbit Up
    5.4 mbit down.
    ping 5ms
I hope apple take this seriously and release a fix for it.

  • IChat 4 issues but i really need answers, please help

iChat in leopard works fine except when i send/receive a video chat my camera tuns on (green light), yet no window appears and i am left puzzled and only way to cancel is to quit ichat. I am left trying to guess who sent me the video chat invitation and when i ask them they are still waiting for me to accept. *Also i have 10.4.11 on same computer and video chat works fine there which leads me to believe that it's not a networking issue. Please give me some ideas....

  • Leopard iChat 4 Issues - Breaks Apple Extreme Base Station Connection

I recently upgraded to Leopard (now running 10.5.1) and I'm having major issues with iChat 4. iChat worked fine using Tiger. I can successfully audio chat, screen share, text and use all other functionality of iChat, but video chatting always locks up.
When starting a video chat, it usually lasts anywhere from 2 to 12 seconds and then locks completely. Not only does the chat stop working, but my Airport Extreme Base Station stops working as well. I lose all internet connectivity. I still get the green light like everything is fine with the router, but my network connection is completely broken. I can't even log into the base station using the airport utility. I have to unplug it to get it working again. In iChat I always get the error that says something like "there was no traffic for 10 seconds".
I have tried changing bandwidth settings in iChat and Quicktime. I have tried deleting cache files. I have tried deleting plist files and nothing corrects the issue.
I see that other folks have had similar problems, but noone else is using Airport Base Station as far as I can tell and noone seems to have issues the their router not working after iChat locks.
When I upgraded to Leopard, I did a clean install and then imported settings and files from tiger on a backup drive. Any help would be appreciated!

    Hi,
I would make sure the Mac Firewall is On and iChat allowed.
    iChatAgent should appear later.
If it was set before the 10.5.1 update I would set it to Allow All then reset the Specific apps after deleting the ones there already.

  • IChat connection issue, kind of complicated

OK, Here's my issue. I'm on a PowerMac at work and I'm trying to chat with my home computer which is a MacBook Pro. I can't connect directly to it for some reason, it always errors out. But what I can do is call another individual in my office on his iMac, and once he is connected, I'm able to three-way connect with my home computer. The individual at my office will then log off, and I'm still able to chat with the home MacBook. Any ideas on why I can't call the home computer directly?
    Thanks,
    Jesse

    Hi Jesse,
This is most likely related to the way the port are opened in the Modem at home.

  • Lion Ichat client issues with logging into SL Ichat server

We run the iChat server on our OD master running 10.6.8. We have about 250 users and it's working great for everyone on Leopard or SL (the majority of our users).
We just started upgrading people to Lion, as well as getting some new lion machines.  The people who are on Lion Pre-Configured machines seem ok, but the people who we upgrade are having issues with logging into it.  Sometimes it will work just fine, and other times they just can't log in.  They get the ~ symbol by their status and can't connect to the server.
The only fix seems to be trashing their prefs AND rebooting, just trashing them or just rebooting don't seem to be enough to fix this. Anyone seen or have a better fix for this? It has happened more than once for the same user.

    Same problem here [https://discussions.apple.com/message/23114338#23114338].
Were you ever able to troubleshoot or fix this? File a bug report?

  • Static issues

My wife has a Samsung Droid Charge that I got her for Christmas last year. There have been issues as of late with her receiving static on her calls. I have looked at her phone and it is running the latest updates and firmware. Hard resets don't work and I've turned off 4G and that doesn't work either. I've looked at other discussion threads and this seems like a major issue with this phone. Even after people have gotten replacement phones. Does anyone know where Verizon or Samsung is on fixing this issue. It's great having a "smartphone", but lets remember that it is a phone first and foremost. If she can't have conversations on it because of the static then it's worthless. I'd rather not have to go to Verizon and get "ugly" with them for not having a product that works. I've been with them for years and have been satisfied with there service. This is the first phone that I've purchased that has not lived up to expectations.

I'm experiencing this same problem. I call cus service and they had me dial 832 after every call it happened on for 5 days. Supposedly they have issued a ticket for the issue but I have yet to hear anything from them. It's very annoying and frustrating to have a phone that you can't talk on.

  • IChat imagent issues

Has anyone found a real fix to iChat on Lion - the imagent thing?
Everytime I want to use iChat I have to open Activity Monitor and force quick imagent, then re-open ichat and click the squggle to connect.
    It's really annoying.
This is happening on my 2011 MacBook Pro and 2008 Mac Pro, both were upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Lion. A wipeout and reinstall is not an option, and really shouldn't be required. I have followed all steps I have found to check permissions and delete plist files and stuff.
Any permanent fixes or help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My sister has been having the same issue for about 10 days.  Today I helped her solve her problem.
"In iChat Preferences>Accounts>YourAimAccount?Server settings, is the server...
    login.oscar.aol.com
    Port: 5190?"
I had her change her settings to the following and immediately she was able to reconnect:
    api.oscar.aol.com
    Port 443
Also, I heard that as of June 30, ichat was being upgraded. Perhaps this is the cause of the problem. My sister and I are both running 10.8.5. My settings (which were never disconnected) were what I told her to change to (from the settings "login.oscar.aol.com port 5190). There is a support website here:
OS X: Using me.com or mac.com IDs with AIM in iChat requires OS X v10.7.2 or later
    Hope this helps.
