IChat stuck offline

I can open iChat but i cannot set it to available. It stays offline. I have OS X 10.7 and iChat 6.0.1 with an AIM and a gmail account in it. It was working fine until recently it just started not signing on.

Hi,
If you have a simple set up then simple Fixes will work.
If you are more security concious and use Little Snitch or other packet sniffers then you will need to make sure those are not the problem.
In reallity it should not be IMAgent either.
As the Home Library is now Invisible (A Change of Permissions in effect) checking Ownership of the Key keyand and the Read and Write Permissions should be looked at.
(Repairing Permissions does not touch anything in the Home Folder)

    Hi,
Also try turning Off Face Time
    Open Face Time
    Go to the Preferences
    Set it to Off.
Also make sure your router has the Time and Date/Time Zone set as this upsets Face Time which in turn upsets IChat

  • IChat Goes Offline Randomly

iChat + .mac account (encryption turned on)
iChat goes offline (and back online) every 30 minutes approx...

    Hi
Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

  • I'm Stuck Offline.

I have a complaint about Skype and it's **bleep** help page. I looked for an answer to my little problem. I am stuck offline and it wont change. So I looked at your little websites help page and found that there was nothing on how to fix this so if you get this and read it I would like an immediate response.

When you say stuck offline, do you mean that your Skype status is stuck at offline setting and you cannot change it back (by rightclicking the Skype icon in sytray and choose another online status)?
Or are you not able to log in, eg a swirling arrow icon in systray.
Please state your OS (winkey+r > winver) and Skype version (help > about Skype, if Skype is'nt available rightclick the desktop shortcut > properties, the version is listed behind target).
Be aware that versions below 6.14 (6.3 is lower) are retired and cannot log in anymore.
If you are not running the latest version please download the latest version (7.1):

  • 3.2 Server Stuck Offline & Wake on LAN issues

Got through installation and getting started guide running 1 VM Server and a separate VM Manager   I was able to shutdown the Server from the Manager GUI; however, when trying to restart the Server from the Manager I received an error: OVMAPI_4005E No worker server found to perform operation on: ovmserv1.  I was able to restart the Server by pressing the power button and the Manager was able to recognize the Server as on after it booted.  The Manager reports the Server as having Wake-on-LAN 'Yes'.    I'm using onboard NIC on Supermicro server, BIOS has a wake on modem feature, nothing for wake on LAN or PCI device.  I checked the Server with ethtool and it reported Wake-on-Lan was enabled on both eth0 and eth1.  There is an optional IPMI card available for the server but my understanding is that IPMI is only needed if trying to wake from a different network, while everything here is on the same LAN and ping-able.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Last night I added an Openfiler iSCSI SAN with 3 SCSI targets, one for the pool file , one for the repository and an extra one.  Setup server pool, pool file and repository in the Manager.  Everything seemed great and I was looking forward to importing some appliances the next day and I shutdown for the night.  Today I was trying to setup an FTP server and was messing with LDAP on the Openfiler server, unable to get that going I tried to setup an FTP server on my laptop which is also on the LAN.   Later when firing everything up, somehow the NIC on the Manager had been disabled and the Manager was booted without network connectivity.  After shutting down the Manager, re-enabling it's NIC and booting up again, the network connectivity was good. The problem is the Manager reports the Server as either Offline when the Server is on, or Stopped(Error) when the Server is off.  Using the Manager trying to start the Server fails with 'already on' and trying to stop Server fails with 'not running'.  I shutdown and rebooted all 3 servers a couple of times in different orders and the problem persists with the Server still stuck in Offline status.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
I uninstalled Mozy a long time ago just because it did prevent my iMac i7 to go to sleep.
I don't know if they have fixed the problem since with an update, or if they'll do it but yes for me back then Mozy = no sleep.
Wake on lan should stay unchecked if you don't need it, this is also known to be a frequent cause of sleep issues.
EDIT : sorry... I didn't read properly your message... My problem was the opposite... Sorry again for my mistake...

  • IChat online/offline problem

I have just set up my ichat account and have only one buddy but with my status set at available, and i can see her as online in my list I am offline on her list. She can't call me but when I try calling her nothing comes up on her screen. I looked at different threads and about changing the port to 443, but everytime i go to change the port when i click away it automatically changes back to 5190. Am i missing something here, or is this a common problem? PLEASE HELP!

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
To Change the port you have to be Logged out (deselect the "Use This Account" in the Account Info tab)
In iChat 5 when adding a Buddy you type the name in full as in [email protected] or [email protected] or an AIM username (no suffix in most cases)
In iChat 4 and earlier you have to Select the type of Buddy someone is before adding their Name. The software then add the Suffix for @Mac.com and MobileMe (@me.com) Names
Also the person at the other ends needs to Check their iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security tab settings.
They may have you in the Block List (If set to Block Specific People)
They may Not have you in the Allow List if using Allow Specific People.
(There would be more options/variations/Combinations if you could not see her as well)
Are you sure you are not set to Invisible (Any AIM login Buddy list only - Not Jabber) ?
Has she got her Mac Firewall ON ?
System Preferences > Security > Firewall
    If On is iChat Allowed
In Snow Leopard this in in the Advanced Button where "Allow Signed Apps" has to be Enabled - AND - iChat added to the List.
Realistically it looks like two things here
    1) a Naming/permission thing for your name at her computer
    2) A Port/Firewall issue with allowing incoming connections.

  • IChat is offline between different time periods

Updated on OS X Lion feels good, but I noticed a bag, in iChat to include allaccounts, everything is fine is connected, but at different time intervals all accounts go offline in iChat although the status is "presence" on account of the new status to press the "presence" or what else would that all the accounts againjoined. And even after rebooting the OS slips some settings such as iChatcontacts showing offline, display as a group. In OS X Snow Leopard was not like this. Maybe someone knows how to fix it?

    Hi,
It is hard to say without knowing the specific timings.
However if they WiFi connection was losing connection now and then it may effect the Buddy Lists in turn.
That is to say that the AIM Logins are more "Always On" that the Jabber connections and that will mean that they will "fail" first.
As Google run a Jabber server it will just depend whether  the Google or other Jabber list loses contact first.
I would look fro possible interference from other nearby Wifi Devices and change the channel on yours

  • Ichat-everyone offline

    Hello
I'm have trouble with my ichat on my MacBook Pro. It seems that everytime I log onto ichat everyone is offline. After a while, it will try and log on multiple times very fast and then says: "You have attempted to login too often..."
When I tried AIM however, it showed that people were in fact online.
Does anyone know why ichat isn't working but regular AIM is?

    Hi All,
    2 possible "Fixes"
Check the App in the actual Applications folder by doing a Get Info on the app (Apple Key and i togther)
Once you see the Info sheet check it does say iChat is set to "Open With Rosetta"
I have seen one post where this was the problem.
Second as suggested go to iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Security Settings and change the setting to Anything else and then to Allow All.
For those like Binkysdad who can not see this pane as dark text they should go to Users/(your account)/Library/Preferences and delete com.apple.iChat.Subnet.plist as this hold the Block and Allow list details.
You are likely to have to re-do your Sort Order afterwards as well

  • IChat showing OFFLINE

I chat is showing me as offline. It has a little lightning symbol next to it. I guess that's an error symbol?
I try to make myself available. It works again if I re-boot but defaults back to offline again in a while.
It was working fine till a few days ago. I have internet access and email is all working.
I'm at a bit of a loss as what to try.
    Any suggestions?
    Phil

    Hi,
The iCon that looks like a cross between Lightening and the tilde symbol means that the account is Off Line.
Try going to the iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts
In the Account Info tab Untick the "Enable this Account" box to  make it go fully Off line.
Now reselect that box and make it log in again.
    Have things improved ?

  • IChat buddies offline and Im showing offline to buddies

I noticed for about a week now that my ichat is showing me offline to my buddies (when I chat has me logged in) and my buddies are never online (when they are). Been working fine until about a week ago.

    Hi,
    Did you delete com.apple.imagent.plist ?
If you do this you will need to restart iChat.

  • IChat starts offline

When I open iChat, it always opens as "Offline", whereas Tiger would show me as available. Is there a setting for this? I couldn't find one, so just curious.

Geez, my eyes must be going really bad, I searched all over for that setting. Thanks. I love the easy problems.

  • IChat stuck in connect/disconnect loop!

    Hi everyone,
My iChat program has all of a sudden started acting really strange. Everytime I launch the program, it will constantly connect, then disconnect, then reconnect until I have used my maximum amount of tries before the AOL server will not let me attempt to login again. Anybody know how to fix this?
    Thanks!
    Chris

    Hi
Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
    Set the port to 443.
    Log back in again.

  • IChat offline/Aim password user name incorrect

I have iChat version 3.1.9 (v446) on a macbook pro. While attempting an AVChat we get the AIM user name / password incorrect. I have gone online to create another aim account. Again the password was incorrect (even though the new account and password had just been created. I have changed the password with AIM - same password error message.
The buddy list icon says that iChat is offline and most of the drop down menus on ichat are greyed out.
About 6 weeks ago I cancelled a repeat subscription to mobileme .mac account - not sure whether this has any relevance ??
    Any help really appreciated !!

I am having this same problem. I just installed a new hard drive in my iMac today so I had to reinstall the OS (obviously.) When I opened iChat I put my username and password in. When it tried to connect a window popped up asking me for my password. I put in what I remembered to be my password (it had been stored in my keychain for so long I thought I had forgotten it) and it seemed that it was incorrect as it asked me for it again.
I then went to my MacBook at home and checked the password in the keychain and I DID have it correct.
It will not let me connect and then locks me out for a bit after I try too many times.
I even went online to their browser version and tried it with my username and (correct) password and it still wouldn't let me log on.
Could my Mac have corrupted the password with AOL?
Is there a way to uninstall iChat an start all over?
Is anyone else having this problem that found an answer?

  • IChat constantly logging out/losing connection to host, fix

This worked for me. After trashing every iChat pref file Spotlight would show me and restarting, continually renew my DHCP lease on every quit. sometimes every 5 minutes, posting to this forum and getting some honest help, and Archiving and Installing, the problem persisted. I have never been wireless before so I was frustrated, with this going on for weeks. I have an EH100 (eHome). I went to Network settings>DHCP Server settings. Unchecked Enable DHCP Server. iChat went Offline. I then Rechecked Enable DHCP Server and have been running for 48 hours without an disconnect. I hope this helps someone. I know I have been totally frustrated by this problem, as many here have.

    Hi ekryss,
    Ahh the simple things.
It can be frustrating trying to find these little things.
Glad you have found a solution and thanks for sharing it with us.

  • Buddy list not showing

When I open my iChat, the offline buddies appear but will not display as online. I know that people are online and using their chat, but I cannot seem to get Chat to display available contacts. Have I done something wrong?

    Hi,
GO to iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Server settings tab and change the port to 443
This is for the TCP login.
iChat also uses this port on the UDP protocol to get feedback for the Buddy list so this port needs to be open on UDP in the Mac Firewall IF ON and in any routing device.
