IChat suddenly fails

I can connect to a video conference but only for a few minutes, then my airport signal fails, and obviously my video conference fails too.
although im not entirely sure that airport goes out 1st or if the conference fails 1st and causes the airport to lose its signal.
This only happens in video, i can text and use the phone feature without any disruption.
Also, while my airport signal is down, my router still has a strong signal so its not my service going out.
My aiport only stays down for less than 30 seconds b4 i get a strong signal again.
Does anyone know what could explain this weird phenomenon?
Id like to be able to video chat for more than a few minutes.
thanks

Change the channel on the Airport network.

    Questions:
    1. Does Apple set sleep or lock switch for devices (drives)?

    3. Does Apple have configuration profile for devices, like a registry key?
    4. If so, where is it located?

NOTE: This Update is required when using a OneTouch Drive as a bootable device. Seagate suggests that you dismount and disconnect your FireWire Drive before continuing.
Users have identified issues when connecting OneTouch External Drives to FireWire Ports on their Mac G4 and/or G5 computers. These Problems range from system hangs, kernel panics to slow data transfer rates. The cause of these problems has been traced back to the FireWire Driver. Seagate has resolved these problems through updated FireWire Drivers.
I am using USB and not trying to use drive as a boot device.

  • IChat suddenly stopped working

I'm on an iMac 2.8ghz Intel Duo running OS 10.4.10 connecting via Airport
After 2 years (on my iBook and then my new iMac) the iChat suddenly stopped working properly 2 days ago. It allows me to see the people in my buddy list but when I ring them for a video chat, they can't see my ringing to accept, and when they ring me, I can't see their invitation. Sometimes I can text them, but it's only worked a couple of times and then not for very long.
I thought perhaps there was something wrong with the program on my iMac, but it does the same thing on my laptop.
I called my ISP thinking it may be the modem. We reset the modem and made sure the firewall level was set to OFF, but still no difference.
I tried some of the suggestions I read here in the forum such as changing the Quicktime speed and making sure the bandwith limit was set to None, even downloaded the newest version of Flip4mac.
I'm totally baffled. I can log on, see my buddies and they see me, but we can no longer chat or IM.
    Thanks for any input.

THank you Ogelthorpe. When my wife's computer I went on line to the site that you sent and tried everything But nothing worked. When my son came to visit and his MacBook Pro did exactly the same thing we became suspicious - too much of a coincidence. We took both computers somewhere else, out of our apartment, and they both booted. We ran disk utility on both, but the report in both cases was that there are no issues with the hard drive.  Back in our apartment neither will boot up. My MacBook Pro is a later model with a solid state drive and it seems to work fine here.. I tried an external drive and it works fine. We think that this has something to do with some kind of magnetic interference in our apartment to which the 2009  drives are susceptible.  It is indeed a mystery!

  • Display suddenly failed. How to acquire bulb?

My display suddenly failed. In the right room light, I can see the display working very, very, very faintly. So I'm thinking (hoping) it's just a backlight. If so, where can I get a replacement, how much should it cost, and where can I find installation directions?
If this is too costly or difficult, I would consider buying a screen or entire computer. If I choose this route, is it possible to upgrade my 17" monitor w/ a 20" monitor if I can find one?
    Please advise.
    Thanks in advance.
    -Don!

The part for that one is a 922-5298, and they are easy to replace as they are located in the display assembly along one side of it. You do not have to open the base or disconnect the arm to replace one. They are likely available for $ 49.00 or so: contact me at the electronic mail address in my Public Profile for help in obtaining one.
You cannot swap display assemblies or arms, as the larger displays are cabled and terminated differently, and will not mate with the logic board or one end or the display assembly on the other.

  • My password has suddenly failed to work

A password used for years has suddenly failed to unlock my MacBook. Any suggestions?

You have done exceedingly well to get 4years.. that is about double the normal lifespan.
Apple did have an extended warranty for them but since all TC made in 2008 have now passed 3years the program is finished.. no warranty is offered for product older than 3years.. it is well and truly past its useby (at least so Apple think).. Repair is possible but the price of a new one is perhaps 3x the repair cost unless you DIY. Which I also encourage. The exception of course is where you have vital data.. stored under the erronous idea that the TC was reliable storage.. a full repair to the TC ends up cheaper than any other form of data recovery.. plus you get a working TC out of it you can keep or resell.

  • Out of the box approval workflow suddenly failed on start (retrying)

SharePoint 2010. I've been using out of the box approval workflow for several month now. I did some minor changes to it, like to who and when emails should be send, but that's all.
Then out of a sudden it stopped working. New request status is "Failed on start (retrying)". Sometimes (!) status is "In Progress", but no tasks are created. In both cases there is nothing on workflow history and error report is also empty
(it even cause an error "Report contains no data").
I'm sure that I didn't change anything in a workflow. The only think that I changed was an InfoPath form, but I only added there field "Created By", so I would see in calendar later who created this request. I couldn't see how this might affect workflow
    process.
I'm confused as I don't even know where to start searching for the solution. Why this might happen? Any ideas are very welcome!

In my list I have a multiple choice field which is not required. When it was
blank my workflow was failing on start! This field was not involved in a workflow directly, I included it only in the email to approver. When I deleted it from an email everything was fine.

  • Why did AIM for Ichat suddenly return an error?

I was using AIM for iChat earlier this morning and everything was working fine. Then suddenly, without warning, it logs out of every iChat account and returns the error: "An internal error occured that disconnected you from all iChat services. To resume iChat, log in again to your instant messaging account." I can log into my bonjour and jabber account, but as soon as I try to connect to AIM, it brings them all offline. I went to AIM.com and signed in and have been using the web client since, but apparently this has happened to about half of my friends on iChat. Why would this be and what can I do to fix it?

    Hi,
Now and then the AIM Servers have a blip and many people seems to get kicked Off Line.
I have server accounts/AIM IDs and keep some using SSL and the api.oscar.aol.com server on port 443 and some using the login.oscar.aol.com server on port 5190 without SSL.
Usually it only effects one group of my logins and not all of them.
It can of course be a server local to you that is having issues.

  • Can a bad download cause my spin retry cycle to suddenly fail?

    Hey everyone,
So I recently left for a few days on vacation and my younger sibling was using my macbook pro while I was gone. Well, they were downloading something and all of the sudden application stopped and internet cut out. The Internet wouldnt come back for 6 hours (thats how long it took them to fix it!). He was afraid and stopped using my computer (im guessing he was using utorrent or something equally stupid). Well, when i came back and started to use my macbook, it would not stop screen freezing. I get the beach ball of death CONSTANTLY, and its become a terrible hindrance to my university work.
So after trying everything, I downloaded techtool pro 7. I have used the Smart function, and was astonished to see that everything was perfect except one category. Spin retry cycle is very high, to the point where its almost failing. After smacking my sibling around in anger (kidding), i now come to everyone here for some solutions! I have read that spin retry cycle is a imminent indication to hard drive failure, but I really cant see how this is possible. My macbook was PERFECT before I left. All my sibling did was do the download, have the download suddenly freeze, have the internet cut out for some reason, and then in fear shut down my computer. The freezing started immediately after this "frozen download". Could this spin cycle warning be from something other than hard drive failure? Like I said, this was an overnight thing. Perfect to freezing. Could the download have corrupted a file or fragmented a file to cause this? Is there any possible way other than replacing the whole hard drive to fix this? Will defraging help?
Thank you so much for your time!!

If the Safari reset or Font check doesn't help, the issue is either at the software (OS X) or hardware (hard drive) level. In the IT world it all comes down to how much time you want to spend dealing with/fixing the problem.
This is a shot in the dark, but create a new user account, see how the performance is.
The last thing in my bag of tricks is to re-install the MacOS.
Run a Time Machine backup to an external hard drive first.
Be sure that you have all of your licence keys and installers for any paid software.
Then boot up in recovery and connect to the internet
    Erase the disk
    Run the MacOS installer.
Otherwise, if performance is not better with a fresh Lion installation, get a new disk

  • Time machine suddenly failed to do a backup!

Time Machine has been working fine ever since setting up in 2011. Running Snow Leopard on iMac 10.6.8. Today it has failed to do the last backup, and the error screen as shown came up. It is scheduled to do backups every hour. All fine apart from now. I am using a Western Digital My Passport Studio 1TB, with available 600 GB space left. Has been working fine until today. Anyone out there got any ideas why this has just suddenly stopped working? What can I do to resolve it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

  • Time Machine backups suddenly failing with error 109 (console errors inc.)

I've been using Time Machine over my Airport Extreme Base Station for months without a single error, and all of the sudden it fails constantly with the error:
*The backup disk image “/Volumes/TARDIS-1/Derek’s iMac_001f5bf60eb1.sparsebundle” could not be accessed (error 109).*
I've tried selecting the drive again since it's mounted fine. It's mounted as TARDIS, not TARDIS-1, which I thought was a clue to the problem until I went to the Console to see all of the errors:

I've seen others say that Time Machine quit working after updating to Snow Leopard, but i've been running it since launch and the problems only appeared yesterday. Ideas?

I'm not sure why you call it a "phantom" drive, because I was quite intentionally connected to that network drive. In any case, I did as you recommended, in case that was the issue (though over the months I've often been connected to the network drive). Sadly, no dice.

During the step "Making backup disk available..." in the Time Machine preference pane, looking in Volumes, I have:

    drwx------ 13 root 398 Mar 10 2009 TARDIS
    drwxr-xr-x 1 derek 12288 Mar 5 2009 Untitled
So it's properly connecting to TARDIS, it would seem, as root.

    Hi Andrew,
    Just to be clear.
Somewhere there has to be a modem. Whether this is Cable or DSL or something else.
Now this could be a device that routes but you can also have separate routers.
Now a Cable modem often is set to be in Bridge Mode (Pass through) and allows the Public IP to be sent straight to a router (The modem does not route)
If the Linksys device is just a router and there is a Modem that routes then iChat will need these set up in a very Linear way.
So to do this only one of the devices should be doing DHCP. (if any at all)
Ideally the modem should not do DHCP. The Linksys if it is just a router needs then to be set to get an IP from it Staically.
    See this pic. http://www.flickr.com/photos/90943061@N00/92218331/
This shows at arrow 1 the device set to be Static to the Modem I had at that time.
The lower arrows show the device being Static to the computers.
Providing you or they know the IPs involved, the Subnet Mask, The DNS servers and the "Router"/gateway IPs then you can get on and change this.
Obviously the IPs of the Linksys may vary (unlikely) but the one for the modem from the Linksys (listed as the Gateway in the pic) is not likely to match my pic.
The Linksys is likely to do UPnP (In the Administration tab) and needs it to be switched On. (this means the lower arrows would HAVE to be done).
The ports would have to be opened in the modem either by UPnP or Port Forwarding to the Linksys' IP

  • Connection to Exchange Server Suddenly Failed!!!!!!!

I have had my iPhone for about 3 months with no issues syncing to my work email, contacts or calendar. Suddenly this AM it will not longer sync and I receive this message: "connection to server failed".
I've tried to delete emails from my inbox, reboot my iphone and delete/re-establish my mail account.
    Anyone have any otyher suggestions?
    Thanks
    MG

That is bad news, your Exchange server is not responding, it may be down, or the problem could be at your end. Do you have web access to the Exchange server, there normally is a URL to go to in order to access mail.
It may be (no guarantee here)
mail.rpc.connect.kent.ac.uk/exchange, or mail.rpc.connect.kent.ac.uk/owa, try them both.
