IChat Timing out 10 minutes

I hav seen numerous threads about this - all archived.
iChat is timing out for me with an error message 'no activity for 10 minutes.' during a video chat or a text conversation.
I'm quite certain this is not my dsl modem, or Airport Express network, or firewall, but it really seems like an iChat bug.
Tiger, 10..4.6., iMac one year old 512 Ram, etc. Restarting iChat every ten minutes is a bit of a pain.
Any fixes?

Hi Scott,
Is your computer set to sleep at this time ?
There is a 10 sec error meesage that pops up when there is no percieved data coming in.

  • Ichat "timed out" error

I'm having an issue with ichat at the moment, it seems that i cannot log into AIM via Ichat, but only under my screen name. I can log in just fine under another persons screenname that is in my account list, but whenever i try to log into my screen name, it just gives me a timed out error.
does anyone know what is causing this? or has anyone experienced this? i restarted, and the situation has remained the same.

    Hi Austin,
You can have two sorts of name that will log into AIM
A @mac account name with a password under the AIM limit of 16 characters (@mac accounts can have longer passwords) or
    and AIM account name.

  • IChat timed out?

Hi, I've had my Macbook since mid-December. iChat has worked fine up until about two weeks ago. every time I try to log in I get an error message telling me that my iChat session has timed out, and to try again later. I read the boards and changed the port to 443, but still no results. I've been trying this for a few hours. My internet and everything else is working fine. Help!??!! please and thank you.

    Hi Ali Rae,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
Go to your Home Folder (Little House icon)/Library/Preferences
Drag the item com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist to the trash and restart iChat
This file will be recreated afresh from defaults stored in iChat and will correct any problems with the old one.

  • Outlook webmail times out every minute or two

Hi, we use Outlook at work and use webmail for Outlook Express at home. After signing in at home, I am timed out every minute or two, and I have to copy and paste every email because it won't send when I click send, it just sends me back to the login. I am clicking the option for "private computer" and am definitely not inactive at any point before being logged out.  Any suggestions?!

    Jon,
    1. Since your computer "crashed" updating software use Disk Utility as specified in the Try Disk Utility paragraph of Mac OS X 10.4: About the utilities available on the Mac OS X 10.4 Install DVD. When you get a clean bill of health, restart from your Hard Drive and run "Repair Disk Permissions" from the Disk Utility application which is in your Utility Folder.
    2. If those procedures do not solve your problem, find the com.apple.finder.plist file in your ~Library/Preferences Folder, drag it to the Desktop and then log out/in or restart.
    3. If that is unsuccessful reapply the Mac OS X Update 10.4.5 Combo.
    Let us know what happens.
    ;~)

  • Why does my session keep timing out, yet I've been on my account info less than a minute?

I switched computers and have authorized my new computer to use itunes and transfer my purchases, all that good stuff.
I had to change my e-mails because the old e-mail was no longer being used, so I changed that information and I'm wondering if that's why I'm encountering this problem:
When I try to check my account information it takes 3-7 times before it will take me to the page.
When I logged out and then back in it brings up a message saying:
    "Verification is required
Before you can make purchases, you must click OK, the verify your payment information."
    So then I click OK.
Then I put in my password and press Billing Info. After around 10 entries of my password it finally takes me to the page and then I press done after but then it says my session has timed out.
So I was given a gift card and put it into my account, which also took a million times to get to work because of my password confirmation prompt. Now when I go to download an album it asks me the basic "Are you sure?" and I say yes and then I have to add my password another million times, then it takes me to answer my security answers then I answer and once again it says my session has timed out. After not even a MINUTE of being on the page.
I'm just so frustrated! I haven't been on itunes because I haven't been using my ipod as often. Now there's this album I can finally buy and now I can't buy it because itunes is screwing up! I can't help but think it's because I changed my e-mail on the account, but I verified everything. And I'm pretty sure I did everything.
Anyway, anyone have an answer to this problem?

The update is several hundred megs
Which means it can't be done over 3G if you're trying it that way. And if your other internet connection isn't fast enough it will time out.
People have also had issues with their firewalls or anti virus software....the software detects the update file as a virus or malware (incorrectly of course) and blocks it. So you can also try disabling your firewall or anti virus and give it a try and see if that helps.

  • Help! When I try to purchase a song from iTunes and have agreed to the terms and conditions, it then tells me that my session has timed out... but I've only been trying for a few minutes. I can't buy songs if it keeps doing this!

Help! When I try to purchase a song from iTunes and have agreed to the terms and conditions, it then tells me that my session has timed out... but I've only been trying for a few minutes. I can't buy songs if it keeps doing this! Does anyone know why it's doing this and how to fix it? Thanks!

Hi mterry1723, one solution that might be worth trying is this:
    - Close iTunes, if it's open
    - Open Safari and got to 'Preferences'
    - Select 'Security' on the top
    - Untick all the security options in the menu
    - Click the 'Show Cookies' button and look for all the 'apple' entries in the left-hand column.
    - Highlight them (select them collectively) and press 'Remove'
    - Now open iTunes and buy the song as usual.
    - You may be asked to do the same security process as before, so do as asked.
    - Hopefully, the security check will now have accepted your answers and start downloading the song as normal.
Remember to re-tick all the required security options you had just un-ticked in Safari preferences. You don't need to bother about opening the cookies again.
I hope this has worked for you and my profoundest apologies if it has not. Worth a go, though!

I have manage to update. You need to disable windows firewall and
You have any other anti virus (I have kaspersky) you need to disable that as well

  • IChat is timed out, can't log in

Whenever I try to load iChat, it takes a while and then comes up with a message that says Could not connect to AIM The connection could not be completed because it timed out. Try again. but i try again but it won't log on. does anyone have a solution?

    Delete com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist
You will have to go manually (not Spotlight) to
    Home Folder/Library/Preferences to find it.

  • My pages in Firefox are timing out after 10 minutes, and a grey overlay appears on the entire page. Why is this happening and how I can I stop this?

Ever since upgrading to Firefox 25.0.1 yesterday, my open pages are timing out after exactly 10 minutes and being covered by a grey overlay. I cannot use the page until I refresh it. This is extremely annoying and doesn't seem to be caused by an extension or add-on. Please tell me how to stop this inconvenient and obnoxious problem!

After trial and error - the culprit turned out to be the Firefox Ginger (spell check and grammar checker) add-on. Disabling that stopped the problem. Thanks for your help! :)

  • Popup to download firefox 4 timed out after install ran about a minute and now will not load or let me download FF 4 or remove FF3.6 (Message: checking for existing installation)

I got a popup balloon to update to Firefox 4. I clicked it and after running the install for about a minute, it quit and I got a message saying it had timed out. It gave me the website to go to to manually install it. I downloaded the manual install for FF 4, but when I tried to run it, the Firefox Setup Wizard said it was "checking existing installation" and then brought up a window saying Firefox must be closed to run the install. Firefox was not open. I tried to open it and it won't open. I then tried to delete it in my "Add/Remove Programs" (Windows XP Home Edition). I got the same messages: that it was checking the existing installation and that I had to close all firefox programs before I could delete it. I'm out of ideas.

  • So i locked myself out the ipod and i followed the steps to restore. it was restoring,,in the last eight minutes my ipod went back on and it said ipod disabled..but there was still restoring and then it said the connectioned timed out i need help

i locked myself out of my ipod and i tryed unlocking it and then the "ipod is disabled" remark shoowed up. I knew what to do to restores it but in the last one minute of restoring a message popped up and said something about it cant finish it and the connectioned timed out. I tried this at my buddies house and it did the same. Ieven my freind (whos very good in electronics and computers) couldnt do it, i need help is there anyway possible?

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
    - Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
Place the iPod in recovery mode after the firmware download is complete and then restore using the instructions in the article. Sometimes recovery mode timeouts and returns to disabled before the firmware download is complete.
