IChat Version 4.0.8 (619

My iChat has been a little glitchy. You know when you get new messages, on the dock it tells you the number of new messages in a red circle? This number does not go away when I check my new messages and the number keeps adding up. How do I fix this problem?
Thanks.

Hi,
Welcome to the    Discussions
It seems to be an issue when you have or had a Chat that is stored as a "Remember Open Chats Across Launch item that is hidden.
Remember Open Chats is a setting in the iChat Menu > Preferences > Messages section.
Try turning this Off if it is On
Shut down iChat and relaunch it. (this should write the info to the .plist Preferences file).
If the issue persists you may need to delete com.apple.ichat.plist
(In your Home Folder/Library/Preferences)
This does not lose your Buddy list but is somewhat destructive in other ways as it loses your Font, Colour, Save Transcripts option amongst other in the iCHat Preferences and any Saved Status Messages.

  • IChat Version 4.0.8 (619) Can't Screenshare

Hello all, I'm running Version 4.0.8 (619) and I used to be able to screenshare with my friend no probs. But now I cant.
I can screenshare with my fathers iChat account/computer (both computers wireless internet in the same house)
and my friend can also screenshare between his iMac and Macbook (same internet connection in the same house)
But we cant screenshare from mine to his anymore. We both have firewalls set to all incoming.
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Have you both set the Quicktime streaming setting, goto sys prefs/quicktime/streaming/streaming speed, set to 1.5mbps
In ichats prefs click on video and change bandwidth limit to none.
    Restart iChat.
Go to sys prefs/security/firewall and check the 3rd one down and then click on the + and add iChat.
    Restart iChat.

  • IChat Version 4.0.6 (613)

Apparently there is an iChat Version 4.0.6 (613) included in a Combo Update. When setting up a Mac Computer for the first time you seem to get Version 4.0.6 (613) which is not compatible in regards to Screen Sharing with Version 4.0.5 (608). Is that a mistake? Someone should check the latest Combo Updates to see if the right iChat Version is included. Or is there any way for me to upgrade to Version 4.0.6 (613) as well? When will it be officially released?

At least now I know I'm not the only person who's dealing with this. I convinced my unlce to buy a MacBook instead of a going with Vista. I told him I'd be ablt to help him through Screen Sharing anytime since it's his first Mac so I could explain everything and help if needed. When he first went online in iChat without having installed any of the updates Screen Sharing works great! But after updating he's stuck with Version 4.0.6
He lives in Germany btw and I am in California.
So I'd really appreciate it if anyone knows and is willing to tell me how to whether downgrade his iChat somehow or upgrade to this unknown 4.0.6 Version.
I talked to Apple on the phone they say 4.0.5 is the latest Version.
They also told me to try downgrading by using the Install Disc. Go to Optional Installs Folder and in the Install Menu only click iChat. It didn't work for my uncle though. He still has 4.0.6.
The only thing I can think of now is... to backup all my data on my external HD and start from the beginning even not using Time Machine. And hopefully then get 4.0.6 through this new Combo Update.
This will mean a lot of work and time wasted and I don't even know if it will work or even if I get 4.0.6 if Screen Sharing will work since it seems not to be an offically approved Version from Apple but more like a mistake someone made!!
    Anyone any other ideas please?
    Thanks

  • I need help with my ichat (version 2.0 I believe)

I have an ibook G4 with Mac 10.3.9. I accidentally deleted my ichat application (version 2.0) I believe and now can't find a download for that, nor can I download the new version 2.1 since there is no 2.0 found in my applications. What can I do? Is there a 2.0 download out there?

    Hi Chad,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages
You need this FAQ Ryan M., "I've deleted iChatAV 2.x - Can I get it back?", 05:36pm Dec 1, 2004 CDT
For this you will need your Panther install Disks (and the download of Pacifist).
There is no download of iChat 2.0 The iChat 2.1 is an update of this to download and install.

  • Encryption between ichat versions

Hi, excuse any mistakes, I am new to the forum business. Can anyone tell me if you can do an encrypted videoconference between macs using ichat 3(OS 10.4.5) and a ibook using ichat 2,1 (OS 10.3.9). I am able to videoconference ok but don't know if it is encrypted since the older version of ichat doesn't have the encryption setting.
    Thanks

    Hi Sreinm,
Welcome To The Apple Discussion Pages.
Not with the .mac based encryption.

  • IChat (version 3.1) continue to log off AIM - typical fix not working!

I've noticed that others have this problem as well, and the common suggestion for fixing the issue is the following:
First off, try changing the log-in port:
1 Log out of AIM (in iChat menu), then
    2 iChat > preferences > accounts > server settings
    3 Change 5190 to 443
    4 Log back into AIM
This isn't fixing the problem... Any other ideas?
    Thanks!

Usually happens when I'm not using the app (minimized or simly not chatting).
Currently using a Motorola modem and a Linksys wireless router (leftover from PC days). Never had this kind of problem with AIM on my PC, so it's kind of weird.
In fact, even though I was online with iChat earlier, my wife (on her PC) said that it showed I hadn't been online for a couple of hours or so...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

  • Unable To Connect iChat Version 4

All of a sudden i can not connect on my iChat it just says connecting and then nothing happens. The iChat times out, has anybody had this problem before?

I'm having the same problem. It worked fine this afternoon, when I was on my laptop using the wireless network at my office. I got home, tried to log in, and all of a sudden it's coming up with the same "connecting" for about 3-4 minutes, then "connection timed out"
I've never had any problems logging onto ichat at my house before.
I've gone several pages back into the discussions, and tried every fix suggested, and nothing works. what can I do? I rely on ichat for work so I'm desperate to get it to work (btw, I've tried logging on through meebo, and I connect just fine, so it's not my account)

  • Ichat version 5.0.3 (745)

    please help
i've used my email address and password, set the server as talk.google.com, port 5223, using SSL, and my location is set to iChat. However, when I try to connect, I get an error telling me that I can't log in to talk.google.com because my login ID or password is incorrect. I've checked it multiple times, and my ID and password should be correct. I'm not sure what's causing the error...

    Hi,
I answer Emails notifications of new posts in threads I am already in.
Then I answer new threads starting with the one furthest down the list first.
This means I have just asked you the same questions again
Re 5) Routing issues (ports and stuff)
    A) do you use a Cable Modem with a router (Two devices) ?
Do you use a DSL modem ?
Is there a separate router as well ?
Most Routing devices (DSL Modem and/or routers) have some ports open by default.
There are 65535 ports in all (think of them like TV channels).
The threshold of open ports is up to port 1024.
Web Browsing and Mail ports are below this figure so those apps work "out-of-the-box"
iChat, other IM apps and games tend to use ports above this threshold and so the ports need to be allowed or opened in the device.
If your device has it set it up to use UPnP (Universal Plug and Play).
This effectively gives control to the App to tell the routing device which ports to allow.
If you have more than one computer it also allows multiple computers to use the same ports (some other methods do Not).
In the case of iChat it is needed to do Screen Sharing.
The reason I asked if you have two devices that route is because this creates it's own set of problems for iChat.

  • Where can I download the most recent ichat version?

HELP!!  I deleted ichat a few months ago and wanted to redownload the program but everytime I search for the ichat software download it takes me to the OS X LION upgrade page. After reading some comments maybe I don't want it back but this is very frustrating not even being able to find it!
Thanks in advance for any help.

    Hi,
Check the key used to Eject is not stuck down.
On My Microsoft Wireless keyboard it is a Specific key that does nothing else.
On my Mac Pro Keyboard ( a Keyboard called the Mac Pro  from around 2002/3) also has a specific key
If nothing is in my MacBook Pro Drive then the key for that does not make the drive do anything. (It would only get triggered when a Disk was inserted).
Seems all Mac Keyboards may have a specific key but I was not sure.

  • If you can't chat, check the iChat version first

Finally after dozens of hours fiddling with firewall & airport settings, reconfiguring my ADSL modem (including having to borrow a PC laptop), scouring the forums, learning Ralph Johns's pages off by heart, establishing jabber accounts, etc, etc, I discovered the problem: for some unknown reason iChat had never been updated by Software Update and was still on 3.0. A quick download and install of the 10.4.3 update combo and all was solved.
If by any chance some other poor sufferer has been victim of the same anomaly, please let me know - it would be some compensation.
Apple - please make **** sure in future that updates can't be confused...

    Hi Andrew,
The problem I have had with SIP and port 5060 is that I had a small group of people that I could get to when it was still bound and a a similar sized group of intermittent contacts and a larger group that I could not contact at all.
ibosie on another dicussion board help me find the then 4.2.3 firmware that gave me UPnP AND the instructions for unbinding SIP from port 5060. I did not use UPnP at that stage because I was the only computer using the modem. The Unbinding of Port 5060 ws the key.
I have seen posts here where people with a small number of succesful Buddies have been using iChat 2. in Panther then found they can not get iChat to work until they have done the unbinding when they upgrade to Tiger and iChat 3
IF he does not do the unbinding it is likely he will have some successful contacts and some that are not.
Yes UPnP should work ...it does on mine... If all the other things are sorted.
At no point have Defcom and I suggested that he change from using UPnP. What we have said is that this modem is SIP aware (which is an Internet protocol standard on port 5060) and that it will need SIP to be unbound for the greatest succsss.

  • Screen Sharing - Unable to use with some users - Version 4.0.8 (619)

    Hello,
I got my mom, who is disabled, a year ago an iMac especially because we're not living on the same city and I wanted to be able to help here when problems occurs.
iChat was a great solution but I could never work it out. With some of my friends Screen sharing is working fine, with some not and I could never find a reason why.
I contact apple long time ago, no one answered.
I've don all Port forwarding on our both computer following the instructions here:
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Edimax/BR-6104K/iChat.htm
I thought if I can connect to others, than that means all my setting are correct.
Still, even though my mom got the same setting and can chat+video with her, I'm unable to do the screen sharing.
I find it very very frustrating.
    thank you very much
    shlomit

    Hi,
The Port Forwarding shown on the Port Forwarding site does include all the ports iChat 3 uses as listed here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1507
These include port 5060 that iChat 4 does not use and an extended range of A/V ports (20 as opposed to 10 by iChat 4).
However the iChat 4 range of A/V Ports is inside the ichat 3 range so they will work.
What this second Article does not tell you is the iChat Sharing port.
Testing has shown us that this port (which runs along side an Audio Chat) is random.
It seems that for most people this means using UPnP.
I see from the pica at the link you posted your Device has UPnP
I would use that (Disable the Port Forwarding).
Depending on the speed of your Internet Connection you may have to turn Off the DoS setting particularly if your Buddies are on a fast connection and can send you lots of data in Video Chat.
It may also pay to set your Mom's modem/router to do UPnP

  • Ichat Version 4.0.8

how do i make my buddy list as just one group/list?
    thanks!

    Hi,
One Buddy list is, as you put it, one list
In the View Menu you can choose to Show Groups or Not.
If you meant Buddy List (Plural) then Andrew's answer is the one.
