Ichat video hosting and new mac mini

I understand that one cannot host a 3 way video chat with a G4 machine,which I have.
Can one host the 3 way video chat with a new Intel Mac mini?
And does it matter that the other 2 participants would be using G4 machines?
Regards
J

Nobody has answered the question which was whether multi chat would work with the new Intel Mac Minis.
I have one on order so I guess I will be able to give you the definitive answer in a couple of days however I would expect that both the single and dual core Intel minis will have the horsepower to run Multi Chats.
Powerboost is a great workaround for G4 Macs and I can confirm that a G4 1Gig Powerbook is more than capable of running a 3 way multichat with this program installed.

  • No video on brand new mac mini

I am trying to get a brand new mac mini going for the first time, and although it switches on, there is no video on the attached VGA display.
I have connected the same display to my Ibook VGA adapter and it works perfectly, so it is not the display. I have also tried another display which also works on the I book. What else can I do other that take it into a mac store as I am a very long way from one?

  • Problem with USB speakers and new Mac Mini

I have a USB sound system consisting of a pair of Harman Kardon soundsticks and a woofer from probably 10 years ago (bought and used originally with a Mac). I have tried driving it my new Mac Mini. It works fine for about a minute; then the music stops. Here's what I've tried to diagnose the problem:
    1. The problem does not occur when these speakers are driven from my Macbook Air (about 3 years old).
    2. The OS and iTunes software is up to date on both machines (10.9.5 and 12.0.1.26).
    3. It does not depend on which USB port I use on the Mac Mini.
    4. Using a port on a USB extender on the Mac Mini does not solve the problem.
    5. The iTunes Preference settings are the same on both machines.

Sorry, no actual experience with USB Audio devices.
I found this in the Pro forum, but the outlook doesn't seem good:

  • Powerbook and new Mac Mini compatibility

I'm considering purchasing a new intel-powered mac mini with airport express to use as a house server.
In addition, as I can't afford to replace my G4 powerbook just yet, I was hoping that I might be able to use the Macmini as an short-term alternative for intel-enabled software.
So, my question. Could I network my G4 powerbook and new macmini in such a way that I could run intel-enabled software on the mini, via my powerbook screen and keyboard. Effectively using my powerbook as a dumb terminal for the macmini.
Is that possible given the chipsets?

    MacEnstein. Welcome to discussions!
Best to start a new question - many people will stop looking here since it is marked answered. This lets you get the attention you deserve and keeps one problem per thread.
But - we are here - so let's see what happend.
Bonjour will find computers on the same network. That means unless you have gone to pains to set up two DHCP servers and change things substantially - things will work on most home networks.
Open the terminal application on both computers and do a netstat -nr - each should have the same gatway for the default destination and same network destination (look for 192.168.1/24 or similar) under the Gateway column where it says link#4
Most likely you will have IP addresses like 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1/24 - feel free to start a new thread or post your netstat -nr results of it's not clear what I'm doing.
Also - you can simply test this out from the command prompt. Each machine is known by a host name - type hostname -s on each. If Bonjour is going to work - machine "a" should be able to ping machine "b" as follows:
    ping b.local
the .local says use Bonjour to find the machine named b and ping it.

  • HP P1102w and new Mac Mini not talking...

    Hi All,
This is a similar issue to all the other threads involving the P1102w and Lion. It is a little different in that the printer is already on the network and running successfully with 2 other minis, 2 iphone 4s, and 2 ipad2s... it just wont work with the new mini.
I have read over many threads and seen lots of different answers and solutions but I didnt want to just jump in and start messing things up when there is (maybe) a simpler fix.
I know that the printer firmware is up to date, at least to a month ago when I installed it the first time. I do have a windows laptop if the solution is to do the HTML config I saw in another thread.
So, if anyone can point to the solution to this isue I would be forever greatful.
Thank you for your time in this matter.
    Cheers,

  • 64-bit Win 7 and new Mac Mini

I have the newest Mac Mini (HDMI and 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo). Boot Camp's online PDF document says that Mini's can't run Windows 7 64-bit. I am assuming this is wrong now with the even more powerful Minis on the market.
Can you run 64-bit Win 7 on the newest Mini?

Yeah, I wrote this wrong. Its ITunes has stopped working and Windows is trying to solve problem, then shuts down.
I have un-installed , re-installed. Tried earlier version and that wont work any more. Changes firewall, pop-ups whatever...........nothing works. And Apple has been no help. Run test and it says all test are good even to Apple store??

  • New Mac Mini output to S-Video

I'm trying to output to S-Video using a new Mac Mini (2010).
If I use a Mini Display to DVI adapter and then the DVI to S-Video, will that work?
    Mini Display to DVI: http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A
    DVI to S-Video: http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A
Looks like it'll "work", but will it "WORK"?
    Thanks

Adapters won't work. MDP to DVI is digital only and S-Video needs 480i (analog).
You would need an expensive converter like http://www.gefen.com/kvm/dproduct.jsp?prod_id=5280

  • New Mac Mini USB problem

I have a brand new Mac Mini (December, 2011, 10.7.2) as well as an older Mac Mini (circa 2005, 10.6.4).
I bought a new GearHead USB wireless mouse to go with the new mini.
The mouse works fine on the old Mini (and also on a Windows PC).
On the new Mini, the mouse works until the Mini hibernates or powers down. On wake-up, the mouse doesn't work until I unplug and replug the USB transmitter.  This is the case on all USB ports on the Mini, as well as on the keyboard and monitor USB ports. It doesn't matter which port I use or which port I unplug and replug into - I always need to unplug and replug the transmitter to get it to work after power- or hibernate-cycle.
Note that I have also tried a Logitech USB wireless mouse and an Apple Bluetooth mouse and they both work fine on both the new Mini and the old Mini.
The problem is only occurs between the Gearhead brand USB mouse and New Mac Mini (10.7.2).
I assume that the problem is that the mini is powering down the USB port and not refreshing it after power cycle, until I unplug and replug the transmitter. Alternatively, I suppose, the transmitter could be asserting itself early in the boot process before the Mini is awake enough to hear it.  In either case, it seems that the band-aid fix is a command-line to force the OS to refresh the ports, but I can't find any reference to such a command.
Thank you for any help you can provide.

    Hello,
I assume that the problem is that the mini is powering down the USB port and not refreshing it after power cycle,
To me it seems like when the usb is powered down the trnasmitter loses the signal with the mouse, i think your mini is perfectly fine, even though the mouse works fine on the old mini I think its how the transmitter handshakes with the new mouse on the new mac mini. Do you have a new mouse of the same brand that you can test and see if it has the same issue...
If so then it forsure the transmitter... not the mini... else take your mini in for health check.
good luck, let me know how u go...

  • I have a new Mac Mini, and I want to send raw video...

I have a new Mac Mini (Lion), and I want to send raw video to the Internet, using Ustream, Skype or other services. I don't need cameras, microphones, or other periphrals. My video consists of 1 volt composite (from a video switcher), and the audio is full stereo at 600 ohm line level on each channel. What do I need?
I have a video capture card on my Windows machine; but the results have been crappy at best. And the so-called "Geek Squad" at Best Buy (where I bought the Mac Mini) have been less than helpfull. Further, the on-line Apple Store shows nothing. Maybe someone here has an idea.

You are going to need a video capture device of some sort and I believe the following will be suitable.

It is available in the US as well http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/mainmenu/products/Video-Capture/product1.en.html

  • New Mac Mini and Analog TV

I just bought a new March 2009 Mac Mini. I am trying to hook it up to and old analog TV. The TV has SVIDEO and RCA jacks. I purchased the Apple Mini-DVI to Video Adapter only to find out it will not work with the new model. It seems the new model only outputs DVI-D and not DVI-I.
I am trying to hook up the mini-dvi to SVIDEO on the back of my TV and then for the audio connect them to the TV with RCA jacks. Is there any way to get the new mac mini to work with an analog TV?
    Thanks

When you cite "VGA converter to RCA" do you mean a little box that actually converts the signal down to RCA/composite, like this:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=101&cp_id=10114&cs_id=1011407&pid=4724&seq=1&format=2
or simply an adaptor like this one:
    http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?cid=104&cp_id=10401&cs_id=1040113&pid=2509&seq=1&format=2
The crucial thing I'm waiting to find out is whether the new Minis provide ANY analog video signal to either of the video ports at all (which would seem to be the case, since VGA is analog, right?), or if the analog roadblock is simply caused by the currently available adaptors.

  • New Mac Mini and iMovie6, & iDVD

    Hi
I was wondering if someone can answer these questions for me. I have a 12" powerbook and iMac 800mhz power pc G4 (lampshade kind), and I have been editing movies in iMovie and creating DVD with iDVD. But it's getting a bit slow.
I was thinking about getting the new Mac Duo core mini 1.83 GHZ with 2 gig of Ram to use as editing bay (iMovie) and to create DVD using iDVD.
Is the new Mac Mini good enough for that? Has anyone encounter any problem with previous mac mini using iLife? I don't edit a lot, maybe twice a year, 1 1/2 hour or 2 hour project. I already have external monitor (viewsonic) and apple keyboard and mouse.
or is it entirely better to go with iMac 24 inch.?
    Any thoughts?
    Alex

In context, the current $799 Mac mini has very similar overall performance to my G5 2.0 dual processor power mac, bought in October 2003, so while the drive is slower (not all that critical in video editing work since 5400rpm is certainly sufficient) a mini will perform notably better in iMovie, and render to iDVD much faster than your present 800MHz PB. Certainly, comparing the performance of my 800MHz TiBook in iMovie and Final Cut Express against even the older 1.5GHz G4 mini with IGb RAM, the mini was far smoother and more responsive to use.
There's no doubt that a 24" iMac would provide a faster, richer, environment in which to work, and if your budget would extent to that system it would seem a poor choice not to opt for that, but as has been said many, many times in these discussions, it's also worth bearing in mind that the mini's performance and capabilities are not defined by it's size. A Mac mini is far more powerful than merely for basic computing needs!

  • Just got a new Mac Mini with Lion - where is the downloads folder in the Window tab that is at the top of the page in Safari?  I used this a lot and really miss it!

I just got a new Mac Mini with Lion - the Window tab at the top of the Safari Browser used to ahve a downloads folder in it along with Activity etc - but it is not there anymore. Any way to get it back or is there another location it sits in?  I used it when I'd copy video info from the activity folder and then paste into the download folder and presto - I downloaded the video onto my computer.  I really miss this capability!

  • Bluetooth lags on new Mac Mini w/ Wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a new mac mini (the basic model) and attached it via HDMI to a HD TV. I bought the mac wireless keyboard and magic trackpad to go with it. Everything works except that both the keyboard and mouse are consistently slow. Not quite to the point of un-useable, but very noticeable.
I've read that it might be radio interference with the bluetooth signal. To test this, I put my Macbook Pro right next to the new mac mini (while it and the screen were on) and paired the keyboard and mouse to the macbook pro. Everything was super fast, no lag - so that leads me to think the problem is with the Mac Mini. I've tried playing with all the bluetooth options, to no avail.
Anyone have any suggestions? I've also tried attaching a bluetooth magic mouse and had the same slowdown. Nothing seems to affect the lag, it's very consistent and probably around half a second between keystroke or mouse movement and it's reflection on the screen.
    Thanks,
    -Mike

    Hey All,
I've got the same issue with my Mac Book Pro and a new Samsung LED 3D TV. Its connected through a DVI out from the mac to a gold HDMI adaptor, then to HDMI into the TV. I've used this set-up with my last HDTV which was a Sharp LCD, and there was no lag and no issues.
I noticed that for me, the lag appeared on the TV, but not on the laptop, so I thought it might be the connection (If I went right to HDMI instead of an adaptor maybe it'd be better) but I don't think it is given that the last TV worked fine.
I then went to my display settings in the control panel on my mac and changed the refresh rate from 24 Hertz to 60 Hertz (NTSC) on the TV and the issue has pretty much completely dissappeared. Not sure why that was the default, but I imagine certain video and other media will play even smoother as well!
    Woo hoo!
Hope you all figure this out too!

  • Newbie question... Will LE 8.0.2 run alright on a new Mac Mini and SL?

    Hello.
Newbie forum user here, although I have been lurking these forums for a while, and I am pretty good with LE-8.
I am wondering if there are any Mac Mini/ Snow Leopard/ LE-8.0.2 users here?
My 2006 iMac has a screen flicker, and the repair is almost as much as a new Mac Mini with Snow Leopard and 4gb ram.
Does a new Mac Mini w/4gb ram running Snow Leopard have enough computing power and resources to run LE-8 OK?
I have an external Firewire (400) drive, and a FW interface (Alesis IO-26), but I see the new Mini has only Firewire 800.
Alesis has a Snow Leopard driver for the IO-26.
Are there issues using my current Firewire 400 devices, LE-8.0.2, Snow Leopard, on a new Mac Mini?
Any comments and pointers would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I don't use a Mac mini but it should be fine with Logic 8.0.2 + SL
Here's an adapter for your firewire connections:

Probably - it really depends on how you're planning on using it - are your projects mostly audio tracks, or heavy software instruments? A new Mac Mini has greater performance than your current iMac - look it up in MacTracker

Try to get a quote from a component-level repair shop. It sounds like you went to an Apple store, that mostly swaps out major components. It could be a simple fix in the ATI or Intel video circuitry.
