IChat Video - Leopard=NO, Tiger=YES.  HELP PLEASE!!!

hi there.
can anyone help?
iChat video messaging is being a right old pain!!!
On my MacBook (Leopard 10.5.2), no joy whatsover....just errors.
it is being totally ok on my MacMini G4 (Tiger 10.4.11).....no errors.
can anyone suggest a fix for my MacBook?
My MacMini is getting it's internet feed from the Ethernet socket on my Macbook, which in turn is getting it's internet via Airprt from the Netgear DG834GT router connected to Sky Broadband here in the UK.
Router and Sky are obviously fine if the Mini will video-conference ok.
this has to be a Leopard/MacBook issue.
any help with resolving this greatly appreciated.

I use it (iChat) from Mac to Mac
Which version Mac were you chatting with? Tiger or Leopard? I can chat all day with Tiger users from my Leopard machine. I fail 19 out of 20 times with another Leopard machine. I can boot into Tiger and it all magically works.
Some folks may need to port map, but I just use UPnP, as do most of the folks I VC with. I use a AEBS N and the Motorola Surfboard cable modem - nothing unusual or weird. Normal firewall stuff, as well.
All that is a waste of time unless you are running Tiger. If you can't get Tiger iChat to run, then you need look into network settings, modems, etc. On Tiger, I never had to adjust anything. No amount of tweaking will get Leopard iChat to talk to another Leopard. I know it isn't Leopard firewall or any other particular setting because it does work very rarely. Then it will fail 5 times in a row with the same settings that worked once after the first set of 9 failures.

  • IChat Video Leopard to Tiger

I'm having trouble getting video chat to work within iChat. Video chatting works fine with people with Leopard, but my friend has Tiger and it won't work.
My iMac(with Leopard) will show her video feed, but she can only see herself. We both can hear each other, and I can see her. But for some reason she can't see me.
    Anybody got any ideas?
P.S. - All ports are fine, firewalls off.

  • Downgrade from Leopard to Tiger? Help please

I just got a new iMac that came with Leopard and I'm planning to use it soley for pro tools and pro tools isn't yet compatible with Leopard so I would like to downgrade to Tiger. How can I do this? I just ordered 10.4.8 for iMac's but am not sure if it will work or how to do it. I heard 10.4.10 disks work but have no way of getting a hold of them. Does anyone know where to get these or any that would work for a new iMac. And especially how to downgrade the operating system.

Well if you dig yourself a hole deep enough by not doing enough research, and then learn how deep you have to dig, do you quit and leave, or do you go all the way if you can afford it? The problem is Protools not following specs with software well enough to allow it to be compatible with Leopard. Maybe even ask the folks who make Protools to give you a discount on Windows because they can't write code fast enough. Or maybe now's the time to sell your Protools license and choose an alternative package like GVox Encore, or one of Apple's audio applications. There are a lot of good music software titles for the Mac if you search http://guide.apple.com/ thoroughly enough.
These are a good lessons to learn whenever buying a new Mac, or a new operating system:
    1. Never expect to be able to downgrade a new Mac out of the box, as it has never been possible.
    2. Research the software you intend to use before buying a new machine or operating system to find out if it is compatible with that machine's minimum operating system and within your budget. If it isn't that's the time to buy used or refurbished.
    3. Buy what you need when you need it, and not before.

    As the article stated
Start up in single-user mode by holding Command-S after restarting the computer.
Execute these commands, each on a single line:
    /sbin/fsck -fy
    /sbin/mount -uw /
Execute this command on a single line. Important: Type the command carefully, misuse of rm may damage other files.
    rm -rf /System/Library/SystemConfiguration/ApplicationEnhancer.bundle
    Restart normally.
If the issue persists, use solution 1 above instead.

  • Running itunes 10.6.1.7. did reorg of lib to new struct. reorg left all video podcasts in old folder. I cannot view video podcasts itunes or download. help please.

I just installed itunes 10.6.1.7. on a new PC connected an external hard drive containing my itunes library and pointed to my library on an external hard drive.
I also did reorganization of my library structure via "organize library" menu option. The reorg left all video podcasts in the old podcast folder and will not let me copy them to the new podcast folder.
From the itunes store I cannot select a new video podcast and download and view it in itunes. The podcast will show up but the file or episode has a "GET" button next to it and never shows it as available to view in itunes. I have attempted to download many time with no success.
I have podcasts that are all video podcasts and some that are mixed audio podcasts and video podcasts. in both cases the video podcasts remained in the original folder location.
The video podcasts are not in movies or in tv shows. All music is present and accounted for that I know.
How can I restore all video podcasts previously downloaded and view them on itunes or an ipod?
Can I create a video podcast option in itunes?
    Please help.

Issue solved - It turns out that the QuickTime version on my PC was 6.5 and I needed to update to version 7.6 or higher to allow videos to play in iTunes. I updated to QuickTime version 7.7 and then added the old podcast folder to iTunes while in podcasts. This found all video podcast content and then the auto reorg moved all folders to the new podcast directory. For the videos I manually moved earlier, I had to move (not copy) them back to the old directory or folder then add that old folder and they were now in the right directory and viewable in iTunes.

  • 1st generation MacBook, battery and Leopard issues; looking for help please

I have a 1st generation MacBook that started having battery problems immediately after installing Leopard. it was the same issue many others have complained about; battery life shortened and shutting down while on battery power with no warning. I have never had that problem while using Tiger. I experienced this with both 10.5.0 and the stand alone upgrade of 10.5.1 using an erase and install method.
(BTW, as a side note: I'm religious about calibrating my battery every month and use a program called "CoconutBattery" to document the results. Prior to Leopard, the battery measured 97-99% capacity. Three days after Leopard was installed it was time for another check, the result was 74% capacity.)
I had a clone backup of Tiger and immediately restored my MacBook, but the problem followed Tiger. I have Applecare and called support. Both myself and the tech found it rather hard to believe that the battery just suddenly failed coincidentally after the Leopard install. We went through the regular things; SMC reset, firmware checks, diagnostics, repair permissions, etc.
We believe it has to do with the Battery Updater package. I had gone between both versions of 1.2 and 1.3, but the problem remained with both Tiger and Leopard. The tech decided to send me a new battery (it's on the way) and I wish to try installing Leopard again. As long as I have my cloned Tiger image, all I have to lose is my time, but hopefully, not another battery! I would honestly like to get Leopard running on this machine.
But... here's my question. In reading through these discussions in both the Leopard and MacBook forum, there doesn't seem to be any consensus of which BatteryUpdater package to use. The Apple tech honestly told me he didn't know. Also, if the BU package "writes" to the battery (which it states it does), can it be downgraded once v1.3 has been installed? I mean, should I leave the battery out, install Leopard, then manually update BU to v1.2 before installing the battery (if possible)? I do plan on testing the new battery with my Tiger install, just to verify it is working as it was before.
There are a lot of people here claiming to be knowledgeable about Leopard, never had any problems with a variety of machines, etc, etc, so I would appreciate your input. Please don't speculate, but if you're using a version of BU that works with Leopard and your 1st Gen MacBook, I would appreciate you telling me about it. I have tried to document and methodically relate everything I've done so far, but if you need additional information, just let me know.
I noticed Leopard had installed BU v1.3 when I checked it, so it must use that as default, since I noticed Tiger had v1.2.
OR, am I way off base on this? Can anyone think of another reason I may have had this problem? Am I barking up the wrong tree by concentrating on the BatteryUpdater package? Is it possible all these batteries are failing under a Leopard install maybe due to some unknown reason?
Any knowledgeable advice or suggestions are welcome, thanks!

Well, Ding Dang y'all... it appears the battery was the culprit. I received my replacement battery from Apple and followed the same steps and everything seems to be working fine.
It sure was strange that the battery started this problem immediately after Leopard was installed... I don't know what to say about that, unless BatteryUpdater v1.3 started the chain of events.
In case it helps someone else, here's exactly what I did (rebooted through each step):
    - Backed up data; unauthorized computer from iTunes
    - Erase and install from the Leopard disc, while keeping the old battery in
    - Installed Leopard, did software updates except for delta 10.5.1 update
    - Applied combo update of 10.5.1 from separately downloaded file
    - Found BatteryUpdater Bundle (BU) of v1.3, moved to trash, rebooted
    - Ran software updates, BU v1.2 was found and installed
    - Then, swapped out battery to new battery
    - Tested unit, seems to be okay now, no shutdown issues, battery runtime seems normal
Thanks to all that had advice and suggestions. It was enough to get me to try it again. Now, I have two more machines to upgrade, since these are production machines, I'll probably wait awhile. But, having this is a real treat.
    Have a great holiday everyone!

  • Can't start video chat Tiger to Leopard; can start video Leopard to Tiger

I've read through the various threads on the board and this is the damnedest thing I've ever seen. I have both computers (one running Leopard and the other Tiger) sitting right next to each other utilizing the same router on the the home network. When I try to begin a video chat initiated from the Tiger computer I get a connection error (same error regardless of whether I'm trying to connect using Bonjour or AIM). When the video chat is initiated from the Leopard computer, no problems (either Bonjour or AIM.
    Any ideas?
    -Ray

As you have Leopard you only have to set Alloow Specifics and put iChat in the list.
As I mentioned in the previous post - you also have to allow or open the ports in the modem and/or router.
Most devices have UPnP nowadays and I would use that.

  • I am trying to upload a video...Need massive help PLEASE!

Ok, I have a Sony video camera with the little mini discs and I am trying to get my video onto my MacBook Pro.
I tried to insert the disc into my Pro and had to go to Apple to get it taken out. Strike one.
I then tried to go to Best Buy to buy the camera USB cords to upload onto my Mac but that didn't work out since the Sony camera is not the version for the cables they have now. Strike two.
Now I have inserted the disc into my PC computer so that I can upload the videos to a file drive and save it on my Mac from there.
I put the file drive into my Mac and it opened with iPhoto and said that it it "unrecognizable" so that did not work. I am now running out of time and patience (which I really ran out of 3 hours ago)
I just do not know what to do now.
    Can someone please help me?!
    Thank you!

Try a new post in the appropriate iPhoto forum.

  • Release Date for Leopard-Compatible ProTools? Help Please!

    Hey,
I think this was the best forum to post this in. :$
I have a Yahama Motif 7 Keyboard ( USB & MIDI Outputs ) connected via MIDI to a Digidesign Driver, which is then connected to my computer via FireWire cable. Logic Studio cannot recognize my Digi002 Driver, and I know this is because I lack ProTools AudioCore Recognition ( or something like that :P ) software.
Does anyone know the expected release date of the version of ProTools that will be compatible with Leopard? Would the hassle to reverting my computer back to Tiger be less than waiting for the new ProTools to come out?
Thanks for any help you can give me.

I have just upgraded in a quantum leap from a Quicksilver Mac to a Quad Core 3ghz Mac Pro, and swapped out my MBox 2 for a Factory 003. Despite promises to the contrary, the Mac Pro came without Tiger install disks, which I knew I would need. Just Leopard disks and the beast pre-installed. Looks great but of course my Pro Tools 7.3 install failed. I tried the tips to install that were on the digidesign and Mac forums, and still no joy. Apple Care... well, cared and I am now waiting for OEM Tiger 10.4.8 to arrive so I can do a clean erase and install. Hopefully this will then leave me able to plug in the 003 and start having a great deal of fun Apple Care has sworn blind and on pain of spam that the install will work, and that the firmware has not changed since they were shipping the Mac Pro with both Tiger and Leopard install disks. Here's hoping, 'cos I hear not a whisper about Leopard-compatible Pro Tools...

  • Lost orig. Tiger booklet - Help please

I just bought a new mac pro laptop. I can't find the Tiger instructional booklet that came with it. I need to read that information. Is there anyplace on line that I can find that booklet info? At this point I don't even know what the Tiger application is for or what it does.
Also, when I loaded the iwork disc, I got little boxes telling me to set up the assistant thing, but I had not yet had the highspeed aol installed so I didn't finish the assistant thing. Now I have the highspeed connection and I don't know how to get back to the application set up box.

  • All Music and Video gone from Ipod classic - help please.

I unplugged my ipod from my work pc yesterday and found that all the music and video have apparently been erased.
I've plugged it back in this morning in the hope that an xml file needs rebuilding somewhere and itunes is showing my ipod as empty, even the pc thinks there is 150gb+ space on there. Sharepod also thinks it's empty.
The strange thing being that some old photos that were on there have remained. I don't use the sync feature and unfortunately my back up external disk which contains my music library is in another country at the moment.
    Have my files gone forever?

Sounds like the directory holding the music has been erased. Odd that it still had some photos. An undelete/unformat software might be able to rebuild most of your files from "free" sections of the disc that haven't yet had anything new written into them. If you can recover the files to the point that they are taking up space on the iPod's drive (or they can be copied to another drive) there are other posts that help with rebuilding them into a library.
There probably are some suitable free tools out there if you can wade through all the "free" recovery tools that are only free up until the point of any actual recovery.... Otherwise shell out a little cash or wait until you can be reunited with your backup.

You might want to make sure that iTunes 7 was
properly installed, (Help > About iTunes) and that
your computer does have USB 2.0 ports.
Older USB ports on the computer can make it really
difficult for the iPod to make a connection.
Is the iPod displaying the Do Not Disconnect screen,
    when it is plugged in?
how can you check to see if ports are older

  • Video deleted from iPad mini - help, please

I took a video on an iPad mini, which was then deleted by accident.  It was not backed up on the Cloud or iTunes.  My understanding is that only a data recovery software will help me retrieve that video...but which one do I trust?  Is there one that does not cost an arm and a leg?  I appreciate any help.

Really?  I was under the impression a third party recovery software would be an option.  If not, I am so, so sad.
    Thanks for your reply.
You're thinking of computers, not iPads.

  • Music videos shows up as movies. help please

Ok, first of I know the "get info" way of switching movies to music videos but I have 170 music videos it's really a hassle doing one by one, so I'm asking if there's any way to batch switch the the videos to music videos.

Yes. Assuming you are using a mac there is an app called "Parsley is atomically delicious" which can batch edit meta data on video files including the music video thing
