IChat Webcam

I just bought a Mac Pro and I am using a LCD TV as the monitor. I plan on using iChat frequently and I'm unsure of what type of camera is the best option. I'm pretty clueless about the whole situation so any advice and opinions about types/brands/compatibility/software are welcomed. Thanks.

Also a X-box 360 cam if you have one.

  • IChat/Webcam Baby Monitor

I am looking for an inexpensive webcam that works in low/no light situations. I want to use iChat and my computer monitor as a baby monitor. We had a baby monitor, but it broke and I would rather spend the money on something that I will be able to use even after I don't need a baby monitor. I think I could use my camcorder in the "nightshot" mode provided it would work with a long 12-15' firewire cable (if that is even available). The computer and the babies room share a common wall so I can just go through the heat vent with the cord. I don't really want to use this big/expensive camcorder for this if I could get a webcam (with sound) that would work as well, then when we don't need to monitor the baby, I could use the camera for it's real intention of iChat/webcam. Any thoughts/ideas would be a big help.

    Hi Richard,
Any USB Web cam (with Mac Drivers) and at least the iChatUSBCam utility
iGlasses from the same people would then be useful.
The link above does have a link to popular cameras that are known to work (it is not an exclusive list though).

  • Fuji E550 as an iChat webcam?

Wondering if anyone has a link to open source code (or other idea) for turning my Fuji FinePix E550 into a webcam? User manuel says it's only Windows compatible. Any thoughts, leads, suggestions greatly appreciated. Would like to iChat with it and not have to buy a new camera.

people have not had any sucess with that.
    Sorry!
    Thanks,

I got this message back from a tech support guy (Ken) about iChatUSBCam. I installed the software, then saw the camera icon on iChat, but when I clicked on it the "working" mouse icon came up and never did anything. I eveantually had to force quit iChat. Help?
    Thanks.

  • New to IChat & webcam is not always recognized

Hi. I have an ichat and AIM account and just got an Ezonics mac-compatible webcam. On either account, it almost always will not recognize that the camera is plugged in. Its okay with an audio chat, but not a video. My image appears in the monitor, the camera is working and listed in the USB plug-ins. It has worked once, only when someone requested a videochat with me. Everything is downloaded as well. Any ideas out there about this? Is firewall or netbarrier the cause of this do you think?
    Thanks for your help!

  • IChat webcam for G3?

    Happy New Year all,
Just wondering if anyone uses their G3 iMac for iChat with a webcam? I was thinking of trying an iSight camera, but since Apple only build these into new Macs and Amazon advertise the old cameras at £600 a pop (!!! gold dust!!!) I haven't a clue what to do. Any other firewire cameras used or success with USB cameras on USB1.1???
As usual, many thanks in advance for any experiences shared…
    Simon

    Hello Simon
For Firewire alternatives to external iSight, take a look at Unibrain, iSweet, Fire-i, or others that claim compatibility with your version of Mac OS X and the apps you want to use with your webcam. Remember to check for microphone capability if you need that.

  • Ichat webcam icon.

people who i know who have webcams, have the icons. other people, have the webcam icon, and say they don't have one. is this possible, or just bs? lol. just seeking a little clarification on this topic. thanks.
    macbook   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Hi Steven,
It is possible to use an Add-On utility called iChatUSBCam and not have a camera.
It provides a workaround fro starting One-way video chats when you are not the one with the camera.
Having said that I would think this would only apply in very few cases and is probably not what this is about.
The AIM servers send info to iChat about the capabilities of your Buddies.
You can see these if you click once on a Buddy to highlight an then press the Apple key and i together (Get Info).
Then from the drop down at the top of the window that appears you can select the buddies screen name.
This is where to look up their profile (if they have set one) and keep notes about them.
Also on this page is what they can do in terms of Chats and file sending and so on.
Does the listing of capabilities match what you see or what they are telling you ?
If it matches what you see then try deleting com.apple.ichat.AIM.plist
This is in Users/(your account)/Library/Preferences and restart iChat
It may ask you to confirm your details in the Start Up Screens.

  • IChat webcam with non webcam user

I want to set up iChat video conference with my family back in Georgia. They all have Google Talk log ons and I have successfully text chatted with them but I never see where I can invite them to video chat with me. They don't have web cams but I wanted them to be able to see my daughter (1 year old) specifically so they could log on and watch her play and what not.
What would be the best way of accomplishing this? Having them be able to log in and watch my daughter and I through our iSight camera?

    Hi,
You will better off using a Web Browser option such as this in items 9 to 12 (you will need to scroll from the entry point)
The List includes the GoogleMail Video chat option

  • IChat webcam effects question!!!

    hey everyone
i downloaded the extra effects that ichat has
i see that you can add your own pictures as a custom background on one of the effects pages
    i was wondering...
is there anyway to add your own cut outs of pictures to add inFRONT of you? (like the clown one or statue of liberty)
if i can add my own pictures i made cut out that can go in front instead of behin please let me kno!

To add to the discussion, I have come a bit further in the troubleshooting. I set up my old 10.5 server on an additional machine and used it as slave dns server. The new DNS server in 10.6 can not resolve home.wiederhol.de. The 10.5.8 server can resolve it using the same DNS database:
    home:~ admin$ nslookup
    home.wiederhol.de
    Server: 192.168.1.200
    Address: 192.168.1.200#53
    ** server can't find home.wiederhol.de.home.wiederhol.de: SERVFAIL
    ^C
    home:~ admin$ nslookup - 192.168.1.201
    home.wiederhol.de
    Server: 192.168.1.201
    Address: 192.168.1.201#53
    Name: home.wiederhol.de
    Address: 192.168.1.200
I assume that this is the problem.
    Best regards,
    Thomas.

  • USB Webcam MSI StarCam Clip & Skype

I've just tested a MSI StarCam Clip Webcam on a G4 Mac Mini 1.25Ghz running Mac OS X 10.4.8. Cannot use the webcam's built in mic & video together because a loud ringing noise is produced. I have a usb mic and use that for sound input and the webcam only for video.
Supplied Webcam Monitor App & Quicktime:
Used the webcam monitor app that came with the driver to set the webcam resolution to 640x480. The picture is good (almost MacBook iSight quality) but the picture tears up quite a bit.
    Skype:
Picture is good (confirmed with sister running Skype on a MacBook) and there is no tearing. Skype developers have probably developed their own code for video.
    iChat:
    Webcam is not recognised.

Sorry for being a little denser this morning than usual. I sense that perhaps you are attempting to provide information, but since this is a help forum I am just trying to make absolutely sure.
Do you need to fix the loud ringing noise? Is there another issue with getting the rig to work that you would like for us to contemplate?

  • Webcam hd

I have a 27 inch iMac only one year old (July 2012).. and when I use the iChat WebCam HD... it gives me a pink tint to my face could anybody give me some help with this please.. when I use the video on my iPhone -five there is no pink tint......
the answers will be appreciated thank you

I also purchased this webcam earlier this year, after installation I had all sorts of problems and Windows 7 self diagnostics asked if I had recently installed any new hardware - if so I should remove it as it had a compatbility problem and would not work properly with Windows 7. I uninstalled it and all was OK. I have never bothered with it since. Maybe there is a problem needing HP to sort out by issuing a new driver.

  • Sanyo Xacti VPC C5 works with iChat AV

In case anyone else is trying to figure out how to use a Sanyo Xacti VPC-C5 as a iChat webcam:
    1. Get and install iChatUSBCam
    2. Plug the camera into the factory USB base with the LCD display open
    3. With the Infra-red remote press the Menu button
    4. Select the 3rd option down - "PC Camera"
(using the down arrow button on the remote, and the set button once the "PC Camera" is highlighted)
    5. The LED on top of the unit will go steady Green
    6. Open up iChat AV
    7. Select the "Video" pull down menu and pick "Select Video Source"
    8. Choose the Sanyo Camera; you only need to do this once
    A couple of notes:
First, you need to have a separate microphone because the built-in camera mic does not pass through the USB.
Second, if you only see the "Audio" pull down menu in iChat AV, it means that it did not connect up with the camera. You need to close the application and repeat steps 2 through 6.
I use a iMic with a inexpensive LabTec microphone and it works well. Feel free to ask questions if you need help.

    Hi Too Many Apples,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
    Nice info.
Do you need to take the tape out to avoid the tape Anti-Stretch feature ?
This is a common problem with other DV Cam-Corders.
What other options does this cam usaully have ?
(Stills, memory Stick, any Demo modes that can get in the way)
That should make it a round ten items.

  • Add  video and video recorder to iWeb like facebook?

First, how do you add video to iWeb similar to facebook, simple click record from MAC and add to page?
Possible to add recorder on the website? What about if you have your own website domain and use iWeb and or Dreamweaver? Is this possible?
    Thanks

You are talking about some thorough web programming knowledge here. For the average iWeb user, If you get it working, I assure you; I will give YOU credit
Alternatively I would suggest having an iChat webcam link on your page and record the webcam where the user leaves a comment which saves a file on your computer. You can then take that file and upload it to your host and have the video displayed on your webpage. This takes little-to-no programming knowledge but comes with limitations of you being present on your computer with iChat logged on then manually enabling screen recording upon video conversation and then manually managing file in terms of compression, upload, embed. So one end you have to learn a lot but afterwards it's all automated where the other end you don't have to know much but you have to be around doing a +lot of work+ to get it to work.
setup ichat account and add highlighted code into iweb snippet to create ichat link. when someone initiates chat with your ichat account logged on and both parties have webcam connected, video chat can be enabled where video chat can then be captured as video file to your computer and uploaded/embedded back into your site as video comment.

  • Webcam recording on Mac but NOT thru iChat!

Is it actually possible to record from a hi-spec and expensive webcam using Leopard on my Mac, to record video onto your hard drive WITHOUT having to subscribe to iChat and sodding well pay through the nose again for something that is relatively simple using the new gadget hardware I've just bought? It's great to chat with my relatives in the states, but sometimes I would like to just record some of the touching moments I have with these relatives whom I may never see again alive? Not too much to ask is it? My webcam is a Logitech Quick Cam Pro 9000. Plug and play and it's amazing! But I would just like to record some moments of our video conversations. There must be some plug-in or software that is available somewhere without costing an arm and a leg...

    Yes.

    Yes.

Other than sodding well meeting iChat 4 System Requirements, there is no cost for a Leopard user to "subscribe" to iChat.
You can use a FREE @mac.com name, a FREE AIM name, or some of each. You do NOT need to add ANY other software or pay for ANYTHING. Merely register as many free names as you need and use them with the iChat that comes with your Leopard Mac OS X.
... for something that is relatively simple using the new gadget hardware I've just bought?
Some of the apps shown here offer simple ways to record video with your camera:
      http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/EZJim/EZJimpage7.html
However, some of the apps listed there are not free, and some are full-featured apps that offer professional power (and the associated complexities.) Others may not be compatible with your system, so be aware of all these facts while you are considering which may offer capabilities that you want.
The easiest free way for a Leopard user to record video chats/conferences is to use iChat:
      http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=iChat/4.0/en/11881.html
If you are specifically looking for ways to record video chat NOT using iChat, it can be done with Skype and some for-fee add-on software as explained here:
      http://share.skype.com/sites/mac/2007/03/recordskype_videocalls.html

Your topic seems very angry about something. However, I cannot tell about what. If I did not provide the info you need here, please let us know the specifics of *_what you want to do_* other than what has already been offered. Someone will likely be able to give you specific suggestions once we have a clearer understanding of your requirements.
