IChat will not sign in after installing Lion

iChat was working just fine with my aol IM address on snow leopard.  now, with Lion, it won't let me log in, BUT, apparently to the rest of the world I am online and people can still initiate chats with me.. I just can't respond to them or see my buddy list.  I've tried reentering my password and even creating a new account with the same username and password.  Still doesn't work.
Whats going on????

After Power Electric crash, when my iMac on Lion go up, i have the same problem, impossible to change connection status. Refuse to change from Offline to Online.
I tried different solution and finaly the solution found here, works for me :
Go to Activity Monitor (under Utilities) and quit the imagent process.
Then all is Ok now.
I don't know why it happens.
Thanks for help found here.

    Hi TMSlattery,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  Based on the description of the issue, it sounds like your computer isn't able to reach the Mac App Store (iTunes Store) or iCloud servers.  I would recommend the troubleshooting here:
Can't connect to the iTunes Store
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts1368
    Troubleshoot issues on a Mac
If you haven't been able to connect to the iTunes Store, a software conflict or your Internet service provider (ISP) may be blocking your access.
Update iTunes and Safari to the latest version.
If you have a firewall, your settings may be preventing you from connecting to the iTunes Store. Follow these steps to configure your firewall.
You may need to reset your keychain. Connection issues are occasionally caused by keychain issues. Learn how to use Keychain First Aid to resolve any issues with your keychain.
If you're receiving a specific error message, follow these steps.
If the issue still persists, contact your Internet service provider and confirm that these ports and servers are enabled over your network.

Light will not turn off after new cyano cartridge installed

I suspect that the ones that say they will work with Windows 8 on the box.  If it does not say that, check the maunfacturer's website.  They eventually will have to give Windows 8 support for the new cards or loose out to the competitors cards.

  • App Store, Pages 5.0, Evernote, and other Apps will not fully function after installing Mavericks. What is the issue and how can this be solved?

Hello all, I could use some serious help on some major issues I have been having after installing Mavericks on my system (specs stated below). Never has a mac felt ever so rebelious and broken before in my lifelong period of using these systems. Anyway, after installing system 10.9, I had opened the mac App Store upon seeing that applications such as my iWork suite all had free updates. However, when I would attempt to navigate to the updates window, it would not respond to my various attempts. I then tried to get there by the system's menu bar and to my dismay, nothing would work when I clicked on it, not even the apple logo menu. I later quit the application using Command-Q and opened up the App Store by the apple menu option 'Software Update...' instead. Though it looked promising since the updates window did open, all update buttons or even '...more' info buttons were unresponsive.  These same problems persisted even after restarting my computer. I had also attempted to see if repairing definitions would help by booting from the recovery start-disk and using disk utility but the repairs it carried out apparently had nothing to do with my issue. Finally, I was able to update to the new iWorks suite (which interestingly did not replace the iWorks '09 suite) by following the notification that asked about allowing automatic updates which I did.
Once trying to use Pages 5.0, I soon noticed that all I could do was merely type in a new document and change various options via key commands. Neither the inspector or top bar menus would respond to any place I click. Similarly, Evernote only starts up on the last used note and merely allows me to scroll through it. The top bar menus, the note select pane, and even clicking inside the note to input text are all not functioning and uninfluenced by any mouse clicks.
I have noticed other apps that will not respond to any sort of input, but I still have not explored all applications to know what the issues of each may be. However there are some applications that work such as Safari, Google Chrome, dolphin, iWork '09 including Pages '09, and others.
I do hope that I can avoid rolling back my system, but in the meantime, it has been quite the obticle course to use my computer for all of my school purposes.
Any help is very much appreciated,
    Thank you!

  • Mac Pro will not sleep properly after installing new SATA BD-CD-DVD drive.

Hello and thank you in advance for time reading this.
I have been using a Mac Pro for 4 years and it never happened to me before.
This started almost immediately after installing a new SATA BD-CD-DVD Drive.
When the Mac is ordered to sleep, It shuts down 3 out of 4 Hard Drives
(I guess the one that doesn't is the OSX Drive) and It will not shut down the fans
and the display has no signal.
During that (when it won't sleep completely) the Mac is completely paralysed and it's unable to wake up.
Now, I've tried being patient and giving the Mac a ton of time to sleep.
In some cases it actually worked and the Mac did sleep completely and it was able to wake up,
but that defeats the purpose (being able to sleep and wake up in an in a few seconds).
In these few cases, the Mac took about 30 min to sleep.
In the rest of the cases the Mac never slept and I had to emergency shut it off from the power button.
In simply words, Mac falls into a "coma", not asleep but not awake at the same time.
As I said, this started exactly when I installed an SATA LG CH10LS20 optical Drive.
You may say that the Mac Pro does not support SATA for optical Drives.
This is why you should know that there is a SATA port on the motherboard of a Mac,
and with the correct method you can connect a SATA Drive AND be able to use it with out additional drivers.
    http://www.tomorrowland.com/guides/mac-pro-optical-drive-install-part-1/
Now, you may say that If I'm so sure that it's the new drive causing the problem, why don't I disconnect it?
Well, please try to understand me, it's an all new drive and it cost a good load of money...
and other users of the same drive do not have that problem... yet...
Is there a way for the drive (which otherwise works fine) and the Mac to coexist and work properly?
Do you really think it's the new Drive?
Is the motherboard bothered somehow by the new drive and wont go to sleep properly?
Any kind of help is welcome and
I thank you in advance if you can help me.

Thanks for taking the time to respond RedBaron, I don't have a USB aircard in this system but I do have numerous firewire drives. I haven't unplugged everything yet and restarted. That's a good tip. I think I will try that to see if that is the problem.
    Thanks again

  • G4 will not boot up after installing latest update

Just installed latest OS 10 update (10.4.8 or 9?) Mac will not boot up. The ring sounds on start up and the apple shows on video but it never gets to the rotating circle. It has been over an hour. I have restarted twice to no avail. I have also disconnect all peripheral. Do you have any suggestions as to what to do next?

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
Try a boot in safe mode (startup holding"shift" key after chime). This will help determine if you have conflicting drivers, fonts, etc. present, and helps bypass damaged software components:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107393
If successful, run Disk Utility. If not, try a single user boot, and run fsck:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Alternatively, boot from your OS install disk, and run Disk Utility.
Post back with your results, please!

  • Not installing 2.0 upgrade. 1.41 will not open either after install

I had successfully loaded 2.0 on another machine.  upon installing 2.0 on a 2nd computer which also housed 1.4.1, the installation went through what seemed successfull also but....when trying to open 2.0 through the shortcut icon, or .exe file in the folder, or Program>open, nothing would happen....My 1.4.1 version would also NOT open.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled both 1.4.1 and tried loading 2.0 unsuccessfully.
One thing that I did note was the fact that NO serial number display window came up as did my other installation upgrade to 2.0.  Would this be computer related?  I also did note that after copying files,  that 2.0 install did NOT remove old files?  Once 2.0 was uninstalled,  1.4.1 continued to work properly but not vice versa.
No error messages, not a glitch on install....Just NOTHING will open in either application once upgrade is installed.....  Once the icon/exe file is clicked...the application seems like it wants to open and then just doesn't do a thing!!
Once again....this worked on another computer without issue.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Could NOT find this problem in search mode.
    Regards,

    Check the following.
LR by default creates a catalog file in your pictures folder. e.g. .....>pictures>Lightroom>Lightroom Catalog.lrcat. While LR is open it also creates a file .lrcatlock file which prevents the catalog file for being accessed by any other user. The lock file is deleted when LR is shut down. If LR closes abnormally the lock file remains and will prevent the program from booting.
With LR off check the sub folder in your pictures folder and see if there is a "Lightroom Catalog.lrcatlock" file present and delete it. Then try and boot the program.

  • Macbook pro will not start up after installing anti virus program.

Cannot back up - is there anyway to go back to prior to installation of software (last sunday)?  I took this to the apple store yesterday and they told me I must back up my data so I do not lose it but i cannot get it to start up to do so.  It started several times yesterday but will not today.
This macbook was purchsed on amazon.com last october in germany and the warranty (per the apple store) started in June when amazon bought this machine from them so nothing is covered.  I am a foreign exchange student (from germany) in michigan for the year and really need to get the computer going and am willing to lose my data if I cannot get it to back up.
What steps can I take to either get computer up (is there a "safe" mose like a windows product) or is there anything I can so short of wiping system clean myself?
    Please advise and thank you

Interesting attitude.  Whether they get infected or not is not the point, they will not be very happy to have received it in the first place.
Safe mode will not work.  I am not sure what to do from here - can I just wipe out the system and reinstall since I cant get the system to start up in safe OR back up my files??
By "Safe mode will not work" do you mean it crashed in Safe Mode too or do you mean you couldn't get it to go into Safe Mode?
Try pressing Cmd R during boot. This will boot you into Lion Recovery. You might be able to reinstall Lion without affecting your files.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1533
You should have your old OS X disk, the one that came with your computer.  You can boot from that disk and perhaps copy your files from the hard drive before you try anything else.  Recovering files this way is not something I've had to do so I can't give much advice.

  • My Mail is not working properly after installing Lion

I just installed Lion and my mail is not working.  It keeps asking me for the password and says it can not go online.  All my mail folders have disapeard and with them my saved emails!  Also the Back to Mac is not able to take my password either.

    Ouch...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

Over the last week I have installed all of the suggested patches, but now I find that my MacBook will not shut down! To shut it down I have to hold the power switch for 10+ seconds to force it.
Is this a known issue? if so, what is the solution?
Sorry if this has already been posted, I am at work on a really slow WinTel box.

    Hello Terry,
Your problem might be some internet connection issue. If the pathes were not fully downloaded, the mac will not let you shut down or some error there etc. This will not happened frequently.

  • Black ink cartridge will not print even after installing a new cartridge

my black ink cartridge is brand new and will not produce any print.    The other 3 color cartridges are also new and they print fine.  The set up cartridge is out of ink.  Is it needed once the printer has been set up?

    Hello rhergnal,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having some issues with printing in black.
Just so you are aware, you do not need to keep the starter ink cartridge once it has been used.  It will not be needed again.

  • PowerBook G4 will not shut down after installing Leopard

Hi - has anyone found shut down problems (or restart for that matter) after installing Leopard. I've got 30Gb of hard drive free on a Powerbook G4 (3 years old).

    No I don't.
Looking around for answers to this one it seems it is a fairly common problem with new Leopard users. One solution (apparently from Apple) was to delete the cache folders in both the user's home folder and in the top-level system folder. I have tried that but no luck yet.

    Hi JDP86,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If your printer is wireless-capable, you should first add the printer to your network. Use the printer's control panel, or temporarily connect the printer to your Mac via USB.
