IChat window typing

The type in some of my open windows is very, very light, specifically iChat.
How do I get it darker so I can read it. It gets a little darker when someone
is on, but otherwise, I can barely see it.
Shirley

I am referring to the buddy list window. Thank you for your reply.
I didn't remember that they were so light. I will accept that they are light
and not fret any more. When I type a message everythiing seems OK.
However, sometimes when I drop down from the menu bar in finder, the lists are light gray also and sort of hard to read.
Thanks again for your reply.

  • IChat Windows Does Not Open

    Hey all!
Well, so I've got an issue with iChat. You see, once I click on iChat, the iChat menu on the top bar appears, but the iChat window does not show up, ever..
    ..Any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!

Do you mean the Buddy List ?
If no windows show up go the the Window menu of iChat and use the Keystrokes or select the item there.
It is possible to hide the Buddy List by using the Red Button and iChat will remember this next time you open the app.

  • IChat window dragging problem

Did anyone noticed that you cannot drag an iChat window by its upper right corner? The last 1/4" is dead for me, you try to grab the window from there and it just slips. Everywhere else you can grab it normally. I don't have this problem with any other window in any other application.
It's not a big deal but I was just wondering if I am alone and why so?

    An Ahh Ha! Moment.
On most other apps that space is for the white/grey/non coloured oblong button that can reveal/hide the toolbar.
See it at the top of Safari or Firefox ?
iChat does not have this on Any window.
It makes it a pain when the Preferences decide to lose their Toolbar of iCons for the different panes as then the only way to get them back is delete the com.apple.ichat.plist
I would guess this is "Dead Space" for the missing button.
(Of course I cant' find another apps to test this theory out right now).

  • Ichat window in time machine switches to finder window

Try to open iChat window, version 4.0.8. in Time Machine. The TM window changes to a finder window. Is this normal for an application like TM? Trying to get back an open chat. not recorded. Thanks.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Time Machine is a backup file storage and retrieval system, hence the reason you end up in Finder (file system) when you select a prior date.
I think you'd have a better chance of retrieving a recent chat link directly from iChat, File, Recent Items as shown below.
I'm on iChat 5.0.3 (OS X Snow Leopard 10.6), so your screen might look different, but as I recall the same option exists in the Leopard version. (Full chat names are intentionally obscured for confidentiality, so only E's appear in this screen capture.)

  • IChat window always showing I'm Offline.

My status is always showing Offine, even after I change it. My buddies can see my status change and contact me, but I'm unable to contact them because my iChat window always thinks I'm offline and won't show me my buddie list.
I have deleted all the iChat preferences....no luck. Not sure what else to try.

    Ok,
When you Add a Buddy it is normal to enter in the First Name, Last Name details.
This adds them to the Address Book.
In Leopard and Snow Leopard iChat did not tell you that there was an Error if you tried to Add someone that was already in the Address Book  (It just did not add them to the Buddy List, Offline or otherwise)
You don't seem to be add new people which makes me think you do not have Permissions to Write (Save) to the Address Book.
This may also be true of the /plist that holds the Status Settings
I would go to your Home Folder and highlight the Library Folder there.
Then use the File Menu > Get Info (Or the Keystrokes) to see the Info panel.
The Last section is on Permissions and Ownership
It should list your account name and Me in Brackets (me)
Then that entry should have Read and Write Access.
If that Folder is OK check the Preferences Folder inside that.

  • MSN & Googletalk in the same iChat window

    Hi
I have Googletalk set up through iChat. I also have MSN accessed through jabber (PSI - jaim.at). Unfortunately it appears I can only log into one account at a time in iChat - I would like to be able to see both MSN & Googletalk buddies & availability in the one iChat window.
Is this possible (and if so how)?
I assume I need to add another transport type to my MSN jabber account - but I don't know what to use!
    Any help appreciated - thanks

  • IChat window moves

This is a minor annoyance but still bugging me... I keep my iChat windows in a certain part of my screen, which has always worked fine: new message pops up in the corner, and that's where I do my chatting. However, since upgrading to Lion, it insists on moving the new windows to a different location.
    Movie example here: http://fishbucket.com/movies/ichat-window-moves.mov
Has anyone else seen this? Any ideas?

    Hi,
I can explain this in terms of Leopard and Snow Leopard which may explain some of this.
With Incoming Invites these windows always pop up in prescribed places.
Text Chats, as you say is Top Right
Audio ones are fraction below this
Video Chat Invite are always Top Centre.
With all the Chats, the actual window for the chat will tend to Stay in that place.
    Outgoing ones are different.
Double Clicking a Buddy to launch a Text chat will move the window to where the Last outgoing Chat Window was.
This may be different if you had two or three different text Chat going on and only one was an outgoing one.
The same applies to Audio Only and Video Chat Windows.
Now for Chat on computers that have the Camera at the top of the screen it makes some sense as then your eye line is at least somewhat directed towards the camera
The behaviour may be different in Lion, as in different places.
However they may have finally linked all Chat Windows to be remembered as to Last positions and to that end iChat has somewhat "Learnt" since you first started using iChat 6.
You may find that these may move when you close the app with  a window still open that is in a different place to where you normally have it.
You may have enough info now to prove or disprove this or at least test what it will do.

  • I start iChat, the iChat bar appears atop the screen BUT no iChat window??

    Greetings!
Just started to occur... i am sure I am forgetting something. BUT, still no iChat opening window on the screen.
    Any quick. obvious remedy??
    Thanks!
    - Roger T

    Same attempt here, last night.
I had not messed with iChat or with chatting in general to begin with.
My MBP/iChat >>> Windows Visa machine/AIM (NOT the Pro version I assume). Seems that we were soon enough able to IM between the two machines, but video/no audio took a while longer: and even then rather uncertain. We briefly got video between the two machines ONCE (I have no idea if we did something different though), and the rest of the time had "buddy authentification" issues. Seems that the two machines were acknowledging one another easily enough in the meantine.
i have checked around about iChat and learn somewhere that file sharing should be suspended while doing video/audio chatting.
But, in the end, what caught my attention is the following link:
    http://robrohan.com/2007/11/30/trying-to-video-chat-between-mac-and-windows/
Seems explanatory enough. I have and use skype. I'll hae to have by Windows/Vista buddy install it and then we;ll try again!

  • Any way to keep iChat window in front?

I was wondering if there is a setting that can be used that would keep the iChat window in front, rather than let other opening windows cover parts of it.

    Hi,
What setting does your daughter use to do this with then ?

  • No Ichat window

I closed my ichat window with command w and now when i try to open ichat from application or dock it shows that the application is running but no window pops up....HELP

    NOTE,
In iChat 4 you can go to iChat Menu > Preferences > Accounts and drag the List of Screen Names/Account you use in to any order.
    See here for More
This then has an Effect in the Window Menu of iChat where the Keystrokes Defcom suggested are listed.
With One Buddy List CMD + 1 will bring up that one Buddy list.
If you have more it will depend which Buddy List is at the top so to speak as to whether it will the "right" one
    See here
They (AIM or Jabber) if you have only one each of each type will say AIM or Jabber otherwise they will show the Screen/Account Name.

  • IChat window does not open - I did search

    Hello -
I searched and found many people have this issue, however I did not find someone with exactly the same issue as me, although I am sure someone has.
I can open iChat, my light opens underneath and my computer makes a sound that it is open. I go into accounts and see that I am logged in and the check mark is present.
My friends see me as online and can send me video chat requests, which iChat then notifies me by showing me a red number on the iChat icon in my doc. My camera comes on as well.
However, absolutely no windows ever open. Just yesterday it was working fine. I cannot see my buddy list, even though I go into window and select aim. It gives me the option to send SMS however when I try, again no window pops up.
I am currently downloading a trial version of iWork, but do not think that should affect it? I am waiting for that to finish and then will restart, but in the meantime any suggestions?
As an fyi, my camera works fine when I open up photo booth.

Restarting my computer did the trick. I would have tried this earlier but did not want to interrupt my iwork install.

  • I bought a new router - Netgear WNR3500L. I had a dlink. The problem is now my iChat window keeps quitting. I have a G5, running Snow Leopard.

I bought a new router - Netgear WNR3500L. I had a dlink. The problem is now when I click to open iChat, I don't see any of my Buddies in the window and shortly thereafter, my iChat quits. I have a G5, running Snow Leopard.  My firewall is off.  I'm not savvy to how the settings should be. Help please!

Try logging on to AIM on port 443 rather than port 5190.
Go to IChat in the menu bar > Preferences > Accounts.
Log out of AIM and then use the Server Settings tab
Set the port to 443(press return/enter(you might have to tick and untick SSL for 443 to stick)).
    Log back in again.
And turn your Mac's firewll on and add iChat.

  • IChat windows loose data after restart

    Hello,
If one keeps a series of ichats open and shuts down ichat and restarts the computer, after restarting ichat the windows are still open but know have a question bubble with the name of the person previously ichated with.
    using 10.6
under a previous version (10.5?), after a restart the windows reopened but with the ichats still showing. How do we get back this behavior?

    Hi,
In iChat 4 you had "Remember Open Chats across Launch" which displayed the last chats you had.
In IChat 5 you have a different setting linked to Save Transcripts.
Save Transcripts has to be On.
You can then set to Display a certain number of Chats.
This does not replicate the Remember Open Chats.
Last Chat when a Buddy is also clicked in the Buddy List will display the last chat you had with them.
The Last 25 Chats option (as with other of the numbers) will display the last chosen number of IMs from that chat (Or the last chat of another selected Buddy)
(Returning to Last Chat then only displays the Last IM).
Now as iChat 5 is a new version the .plist is rewritten the first time.
This has a direct effect on the Last Chat options.
The .plist is now missing some info about the Last Chats although it can search and display the Last Chat with a Buddy if a Buddy is clicked.
It seems to get better as time goes on about displaying Open chats on Quit like the previous version if left at Show Last Chat rather than one of the numbered choices.
    Another way to explain it.
In the File Menu of iChat you have Recent Items.
This lists the last Text Chats and Video or Audio chats you had and Saved Chats
(The Number of items displayed here is set in System Preferences > Appearance > Number of Documents)
It seems that there is a correlation between th Recent Items and the Saved Chats and the Last Chat has to be in both to replicate the "Remember Open Chats across Launch"
It is not a perfect match for the previous setting.
    It does seem to improve.
Having said that I played and tweaked mine running though all the option I could think off and then left it for a while.
Now mine seems to remember the Last Open Chat properly. (I may have beaten it in to submission)

  • Ichat windows messenger works for ?????

i have an account the windows messenger, but it does not work in ichat ???

    Hi,
It is working for me.  Not sure what your set up is.  My N97 firmware is v20.  The app is installed at the E: Mass Memory.  Yes, it took a very long time to install.  And a very long time to initiate.  But nothing like 5 hours.  I suppose you are also running v20 and the app is installed at E:?  Another thing I can think of is perhaps the location you are from?  Microsoft seems to say that some locations are now free and some may still be not.  Sorry, can't be of more help.  Best of luck.
Or use Nimbuzz.  That is a good option.

  • How to set position of iChat window

Every time I begin a chat, the chat window opens in the middle of the screen and I move it to the corner where I like to put it so I can have others windows open and not block each other. How can I get the iChat program to remember the position of the chat window so that when I open it each time it goes to my preferred position on the screen? Thanks.
