Ichat won't accept or send file transfers/freezes

I am running OS X 10.7.5 on my computer here at work, the same as everyone else here. We all use ichat, and we often use file transfers. For the past year or so, if I try to accept a file transfer, ichat freezes. Recently (within the past 2 weeks), even sending images (which used to be fine) causes ichat to freeze, and the image isn't sent. Occasionally it works, but usually not. Larger files never send.
When I go to Window>File Transfers, loading this windows also causes iChat to freeze, and I have to restart. If I restart after doing this, ichat refuses to load, immediately freezing (because it is trying to load that file transfer window), and I end up having to delete the com.apple.iChat.plist file from my preferences in order to get ichat to open at all.
I have googled this issue a lot but have never found a solution. Please help!

You List Lion (OS X 10.7.x) so that mean iChat 6.
Which service are you using ?
Bonjour, AIM or Jabber to do this ?
The AIM account, if you have one, will login to the server on port 443.
However to send Pics-in-Chats or Files then it changes to using port 5190.
It would be unusual for one computer on the LAN network to be blocked for this port.
It is possible to block it on a Mac.
In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to Folder and type /etc as the name of the folder.
This will open the etc folder (which is in Hard Drive Name/Private and is normally hidden)
Navigate to the Hosts files and Open With TextEdit.
It should read like this if unaltered
It would normally be used to block Servers (IP addresses) rather than specific Ports
If it is the Bonjour account try deleting the com.apple.iChat.Subnet.plist (it is in the same folder as the com.apple.ichat.plist one is).

In the Finder use the Go Menu > Go to FOlder and type in ~/Library/keychains
Click the login.keychain once to Highlight and then from the Finder's File Menu do a Get Info (CMD and I Keys together)
In the Info Panel go to the Bottom and see if you Own the File
(Open the Padlock and then the cogwheel icon and your shortname should be there greyed Out about making you the Owner).
In the list above that you should be listed with Read and Write permissions.
If you don't have Read and Write permissions you will not store any new password.

Ichat won't accept buddy invitation

My ichat won't accept buddy invitation, even though I click accept. It still says waiting for authorization. This is from a coworker that I've been buddies with already whose screenname all of a sudden quit working with me only.

This might be to do with your router.
If you used Port Forwarding to open the ports iChat uses you may have had to Point them to an IP address (Computer).
However if you left the router issuing IP addresses via DHCP then the computer may have changed IP, causing the Port Setting not to be pointing to the computer and it's current IP address.
Using UPnP in the router instead or Port Forwarding gets around this (If the device has UPnP)
Don't use both together as they conflict.
If the Mac Firewall Is On also check the Advanced button to see that iChat is Allowed. (In the List)

IChat won't accept file transfers? Missing Plug-in

My iChat recently stopped accepting automatic file tansfers. Instead of a file, a "Missing Plug-In" icon pops up.
How do I fix this?

Reinstall iChat
There is no realistic way of grabbing an individual component.
IF you are using Time Machine to do your backups and are certain when the app was working properly you could try Restoring it from the Backup.
The real issue as you will see reading the Reinstall info is that some of the iChat functions are held in support files and apps. Hence the suggestion to Reinstall.(Start with the App itself (Easy Way))

Premiere won't accept new source files in slightly different formats...

I'm using CS3 (and I installed CS4 and got the same problem). I've created a video using six different source videos that were originally encoded in XVID. I now know that was a bad idea but at the time I didn't know how to convert the video so I went ahead and used them. Now my project crashes to the desktop whenever I open it without any sort of error message.
This is a project that I started over a year ago and I set it aside because I didn't want to deal with the issue, but I really want to finish this project. Now I have a better handle on what sort of codecs work well with premiere and I use Super C to convert the videos to a friendly format and I haven't had any problems with my projects crashing since then.
So now I've revisted the project that is crashing and I have tried converting the original source videos to a more friendly format, but hte problem is, even when I get it to a format that is pretty much exactly the same settings as the original (size, fps, etc) premiere won't accept it. When I open the project and it asks me "Where is the file..." I'll point to the new file and premiere tells me "The selected file cannot be linked because its type (video) does not match original file's type (audio and video)".. I try this after opening the project by right clicking on the asset and choosing "link media..." but of course I get the same error message.
What i've gotten done in the project is like 10 hours worth of work and it would be a shame to lose all of it just because Premiere is too picky about switching from one media type to another .. what are my options in getting this to work?

Yes, Xvid is a delivery-only format for delivery-only, but you know that too.
What I would do would be to Open that original Project, and then Offline the original Video. If you named the converted files the same, except for the extension, you should be able to then Import the replacement files and manually replace those. Make sure that when you choose to Offline the Assets, that you do a Save_As, so that the original Project is NOT overwritten - keep it safe.
You might try to Relink from the Project Panel, before you do the Import. I do not know if that will be allowed, due to the extension difference, but that would be the easiest way, if it works. Try that first. With the material Offline, Rt-click on each AV file, and choose Link Media. If you used the same file names, you should be able to find the converted versions. Let us know if this works, or if you get rejected.

IPod won't accept a WAV file - why??

I have a 4th-gen iPod nano, and I need to copy some WAV files onto it. However, when I sync the iPod, the WAV files don't appear on the iPod (even though I have not received an error message about copying them). The WAV files are ones I recorded myself, and edited in the program GoldWave. They are PCM signed 24 bit mono files. Does the iPod nano not accept WAV files in the PCM signed 24 bit mono format? If not, how do I need to format the files in order to be able to play them back on my iPod? Thanks very much for any help you can give me!!!

I have .wav files on a pc and am trying to transfer them to an ipod classic to either listen to on the device or to transfer into itunes. These are voice recordings. All of the files transfered but they are corrupted. How do I this properly?

When I try to access my iCloud account from my iPhone 4 it will not accept my password, and then freezes the phone. I have to reboot it to get it working again.

File splitter won't accept some text files

sorry, this is in the wrong place is there any way i can move it to general programming?
i'm making a file splitter to split large text files into smaller parts. so far everything works as far as test files that i make, however, sometimes when i copy and paste text off the internet, for example, the splitter does not import any of the text as if it can't recognize it. what might i be able to do to get it to recognize this kind of text. the files were saved as ANSI encoding, if it matters.

Instead of using a Scanner why not use a BufferedReader which will handle files that use either '\n' or '\r' as line terminators. After all, all you are doing is reading the file in line by line and storing into a string with out the newline character.

Im trying to add a ringtone but iTunes 11 won't accept my .m4r file

I have recently made a ringtone in Adobe Audition for my iPhone 4. Apon completion, I saved the file as .mp3, but but later changed it to .m4r. I looked threw a few discussions and tried nearly all that was suggested to me, (such as...) going to "File" "Add to Library" *Select ringtone "Add". Everybody's telling me it will add the "Tones"File but it won't add it, iTunes completely ignores what I am trying to do. I've tried going threw "Finder" and adding it manually... But iTunes still just ignores it. I'm not sure what to do at this point so I shall ask the community...

This is embarassing... Problem solved, I found another page that told me I had to go into iTunes and tell the iPhone to sync tones. I had no knowledge of this step until now, very sorry. Everyone who see's this question, please remember to do that last step. All of my ringtones work now.

Premiere Pro v6.0.3 won't accept drag & dropped files from Sony's XDCAM Browser v2.1

Premiere Pro reports a "generic file import" error when I try to drag & drop my video files (.mxf) from Sony's XDCAM browser directly into Premiere Pro project window. However, I can drag & drop the same file(s) directly from a file folder on my computer and I can also use the "file import" from Premiere Pro drop down menu to import the same files with no problems.
Also, I can successfully drag & drop video files (.m2ts) from Sony's Content Management Utility into Premiere.
But why can't I drag and drop the same files (.mxf) directly from my Sony XDCAM Browser. It appears to me that my issue is related specifically to XDCAM Browser & the .mxf files it supports (note: Sony's Content Management Utility does support .mxf files so I can't simply use that Utility).

You need to use the Media Browser within Premiere
to import these files.
Copy the entire contents of the media card to an internal drive first.

Movie importing problems (won't accept quicktime .mov files)

I have tried to import several movies, three of which are edited off of final cut pro and two which are dowloaded quicktime movies. I get the pop-up which says "Some of the videos in you iTunes library, including the video "Movie", were not copied to the iPod "My iPod" because they cannot be played on this iPod." Every one of the movies has been converted into a quicktime movie and is a .mov file, which accoring to the web-site should be easily played on the iPod? Anyone know what I can do?

Even tho the files are.mov they also have to be a certain fps size (Frame Per Second). here is the exact details on what iPod supports best in the format you have

IChat Won't Accept People From My Address Book

I have been using an AOL screen name for years and today decided to move on and simply use my me.com account from now on.
I entered iChat 4.0.8 on Leopard and removed my AOL username from iChat, and added a new account with my MobileMe username.
Oddly, none of my friends already in my address book showed up in the window that opened. Not even as 'Offline'. Isn't iChat supposed to see those names and list them as Buddies since I took the time to add their screen names to my Address Book?
If I manually drag a name from AddressBook to one of iChat's lists - the name flashes in the list for a moment then disappears?
I tried trashing iChat's prefs and starting from scratch with it, but it hasn't helped...
How do I get Address Book to play nice with iChat like it's supposed to?

Windows Movie Maker won't accept my Quicktime file

can you give me the hints? I tried converting the quicktime file and it's worked, because now it has the windows media thumbnail, BUT it still doesnt work in the movie player..

Windows Movie Maker does not import MOV files as you surmised. Third party software is necessary to convert it for importation to WMM.
One such software(free) that works is: 'RAD Video Tools' from 'Bink and Smacker':

The RAD Video Tools software will allow you to convert MOV files to AVI files, which will import into WMM

It may look intimidating at first but all you really need to do is:
1) Browse to your MOV file, select it, then click 'convert a file' at bottom menu.
2) Then in the new window that pops up, make sure the output file type is .AVI(the default output file type should be AVI), then click on 'convert' at right menu.
3) Import the newly created AVI file into WMM

Trouble sending files through ichat after 10.4.7 update

after the 10.4.7 update (at least it was right around the same time as the update), my ichat stopped being able to send files to my friend. the picture or video would appear to be sending, but the next time i said something, i would be informed that it could not be sent. my friend was still able to send me files, successfuly during this time.
simultaneously, this would happen with EVERYONE on my buddy list. except one difference: they would get the file, and i would be merely informed that it had failed.
a new discovery i made today is that with the first friend i mentioned, after a failed attempt, he can no longer see anything i write.
does anyone have a suggestion as to how to make ichat be able to send files normally again? thanks for your help!
