IChat Won't Recognize My Camera

Hey guys,
A couple of months ago my internet stopped working and i used a cord to make it work. I recently got it fixed from a friend and now it works perfectly. Although, on the same day as it was fixed, I went on iChat and all it recognizes is the microphone not the camera..... I've tried stuff in preferences but it doesn't work. Photo Booth works, though. Does it have to do with what my friend did? PLEASSEE HELP! I just want the camera to work! thanks!

I have no idea about any of these models or anything
Apple/About This Mac/More Information/Hardware - will tell your model computer information
Apple/About This Mac - will tell you which os you have installed.
I've tried stuff in preferences but it doesn't work.
Which "stuff?"
Does it have to do with what my friend did?
What did your friend do?
PLEASSEE HELP!
Nothing no one here can do until you provide all the necessary details asked above. You will need to provide the correct system information in the "My Settings" link.
Once you find out all the necessary information, repost in the iChat forum area. There are 2 iChat forum areas. Once you know which os you have, post in the proper iChat area - http://discussions.apple.com/index.jspa?categoryID=1

  • IMOVIE 6 won't recognize DV camera while IDVD is encoding or burning

I am in the process of encoding and burning a dvd in idvd 6. Given the length of this process, I want to also import some video into an imovie 6 project. However, while idvd is encoding, imovie won't recognize my camera.
I understand I can stop idvd, but then will I lose the encoding that has already occurred?
Will imove recognize the camera if I launch idvd after beginning the import into imovie?
Is there a software fix that will prevent idvd from monopolizing the firewire port when it is just encoding video from an imovie project?
This is a very irritating conflict given the time encoding takes in idvd.
    Thanks,

    Dual 1 GHz PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

As Sue suggests, it's not surprising that iDVD doesn't want you to access the camera with iMovie. It's not unusual for applications that perform FireWire-intensive functions—as both iDVD and iMovie do—to want to control the device. If iDVD can't control the camera, it may not be able to perform a task you want it to do. (Remember, iDVD offers several camcorder-dependent functions, including OneStep DVDs.)
While it may be a bit treacherous, you CAN go behind iDVD's back to get it done. The trick is to grab control of the camera before iDVD does. So Quit iDVD after you create, then save the iDVD project, then grab control of the camera with an iMovie HD project, THEN re-open the iDVD project and start encoding. (I tested exporting the iDVD project to a disk image, which is probably safer than burning a physical DVD. Use Disk Utility later to burn the disk image to a physical DVD.)
The iMovie video looked fine here, but your mileage may vary.

  • 10.8.5 won't recognize my camera for download

My computer won't recognize my camera for picture downloads.  Worked before with older Mac system.

Your Panasonic should work fine under normal circumstances.
Remove the firewire hub from the loop. It will be a trouble maker.
Formatting must be Mac OS Extended. To check it, go to the firewire icon on your Desktop and right click it then select Get Info.
If it's not Mac OS Extended, use the disc utility to re-format, be aware that this will erase all files so BACKUP any imortant files before proceding.
You will need a spare firewire port to plug in the camera. Some externals have two, if yours has two, try it, otherwise you will have to add the suggested card to add the additional port.
    Does the G4 have two?
The card arrangement gives you an additional BUS and is light years ahead of a firewire port for video editing.

  • It won't recognize my camera

Hi. i'm a new mac user. i have nikon coolpix p6000 camera but my macbook won't recognize it.
i bought a card reader and it won't recognize it too. iphoto and image capture are useless in this matter.
by the way, when i look at the usb setting the camera name is actually there.
    Any ideas?

    jenan wrote:
the card reader didn't work at all. but i tried it on a pc and it worked fine.
So you tried the same card in the card reader on a PC and it worked?
Could you view the pics when inserted into the PC?
If so, this tells me that you may have a problem the USB port on your Mac or the card is formatted to something that the Mac does not want to read, unlikely though.
Try a different USB port and make sure that you can view the pics on the camera itself.
Try resetting the SMC and see if that helps ya...

  • X205-sli1 64bit windows 7 won't recognize sony camera anymore and SLI mode flicker

I suspect this is more a windows 7 driver issue than a laptop issue, but does anyone have any ideas?
    background:
so, started with X205-sli1 default a month ago, since then it has gotten... 4gb ram, dual 500gb drives, and a T9500 CPU  (was running at 85c when idle before so as long as I was redoing the heatsink compond I upgraded the CPU, now runs at 40c when idle and faster).... anybody need a T7250 that works? pm me.
afterwards formated and put windows 7 64bit on it...   since then loaded all the drivers from toshiba website and everthing seems to work fine except it won't recognize the sony DSCW90 camera as a mass storage device like it did before.  The camera still works fine on another system running ubuntu, so I know the camera/cable are good.
second problem, even with the latest nvidia driver I get a nasty flicker when I enable the SLI mode, seems to be driver related....
    Thanks,
    Robert
p.s. the instructions lorddethstalker's signature are spot on for how to do the upgrade... thanks.

I long ago learned when I do an OS install I do a clean one with a complete wipe of the drive... read the instructions and seems about right...
I seem to recall something from way back with a similar problem when I first got the camera... I just don't remember the solution...
Clean installs were the way to go in my thinking as well. However, because of some glitches like this, I would mention a couple of things.
Probably the best way to go, would have been to first have done a full system Toshiba Recovery of your Vista 32 OS, drivers, etc, to your system's factory default out-of-the-box setup. Nice and clean no messy software/hardware updates/installs to mess it up. Then, after that to have done an in place upgrade to Windows 7 32bit. I think you would have had the least amount of trouble from everything I've learned on this forum, and from my own personal experience.
Next, while I fully understand the hyped benefits of the Windows 7 64bit version, the reality can be somewhat different. First, though it has a 64bit capability, your system was originally designed as a 32bit system, supplied with the appropriate 32 bit OS, and as such, it can only take a maximum of 4GB or RAM. Despite your percieved benefit of seeing/using the full 4GB of RAM, this is probably, at the very least, un-done by the fact that your old 32bit software actually runs faster on Windows 7 32bit. If your system could handle more than 4GB of RAM, and especially if you were willing to invest in new 64bit software, it would have been worthwhile to install Windows 7 64bit. Otherwise, I sincerely doubt that it was.
The main chipset and its drivers are what handles the USB ports. If you did (re)install those, from the links I gave you before, there's not much else you can do there. While it is not the same problem you are experiencing, the only other suggestions I have is to follow the instructions in Method 3 of this article:
USB port may stop working after you remove or insert a USB device
Did you ever try the system reset I mentioned before?
    Good luck.

  • Final cut won't recognize my camera

Hello. My Final Cut HD 3.0 won't recognize my brand new Sony 1080i HDV camera. I realize my final cut software probably pre-dates the camera. How can I fix it so I can capture video from this camera? I'm sure there's an answer buried someplace right before my eyes-- but I don't see it. Thanks.

  • My iChat won't recognize my password

I set up my iChat account using my google account but it won't recognize my password. I can sign in on google, but iChat just won't take it. How do I fix that? Can I reset my password?? This is very frustrating

    Hi,
With a Google account set up in iChat there are several things to consider
The Account name used should be exactly as it appears when you log in to the Google Web mail page.
Apple's Mail app seems to allow you to use either @gmail or @googlemail.com to retrieve your mail.
But the Google Talk server is fussier than this and it must match.
    Next.
In the Server Setting tab of of iChat's Preferences > Accounts fro the Google Account it should read that the server is talk.google.com
If you selected Google as the option in iChat 4 or 5 then thius will be done for you by the software.
In iChat 3 there is no Google option and you have to added it first as a Jabber Account then change the Server name.
Of course in iChat 4 or 5 if you chose Jabber and not Google you will have to change the server name as well.
iChat uses port 5223 to Login to most Jabber servers.
This port will need to be allowed or open in your Router.

  • Computer won't recognize iPhone camera

I used to have an original iPhone and I used to be able to import my camera roll. It randomly stopped working after a couple of months. I now have a 3GS and it still won't work. I have a Dell Inspiron running Vista. iTunes will still recognize my phone, but my computer won't recognize my phone or the camera. Any ideas about what happened or how I can import pictures again?

In my case, the computer stopped showing images that were on the iphone and only showed blank squares.
You might try this. Open the Image Capture application on your Mac. Open the menu item, Devices > Browse Devices.... If there is a Local Device called Digital Camera rather than the name of your iPhone, see if there is a Connected box that is not checked. Check it and you may find that the device will change to the name of your iPhone and things may begin to work.
If it is checked, you might try unchecking and then rechecking the box.
If your iPhone doesn't show up in the Local Device list, this might point toward the problem. Call iPhone support.

  • Tried to tether my Nikon D3200, but it won't recognize my camera

Does anyone have a clue as to how I can get the software to recognize this camera?

You can't. At this time the D3200 is not supported for tethered shooting. Nikon has software that may support the camera, and you could save your images to a watched folder that Lightroom uses.
Update: Nikon's software is called Camera Control Pro 2. I just checked it for a list of supported cameras and the D3200 isn't included in that list.

  • Software won't recognize SX50 camera

I installed the software, and uninstalled and reinstalled but the software still does not recognize my camera.  I know my computer does because it shows up in image capture.  Help!

Hello -- I had the same problem and just about 2 minutes ago, received the following info from support.  I was told that they are going to release an update making the software compatible with Mavericks and that it was to come out sometime around the end of November.  Because I need to make a plan around it, I wrote back for a closer approximation, since we are now into December.  Here is what I got in the email from Support:
Thank you for contacting Canon product support regarding software for your PowerShot SX50 HS camera.
Canon is conducting compatibility tests for the current versions of Canon digital imaging software with the shipping versions of the new Mac operating system.  Results will be posted soon at www.powershot.com.  For now, Canon is not claiming compatibility with this version of Mac OS.
Mac OS X 10.1 and newer come with Image Capture drivers that support most of Canon's digital cameras with USB interfaces.  When a compatible camera is connected to a compatible Mac computer running OS X 10.1 and newer, the computer detects the camera and automatically launches Image Capture.  This Apple program allows JPEG images in the camera to be downloaded to the Macintosh.  Try doing the following to download the images:
    1.  Click on your hard drive.
    2.  Open your APPLICATIONS folder.
    3.  Open the program that says IMAGE CAPTURE.
    4.  With Image Capture still open, click on the IMAGE CAPTURE menu, found on the top left corner of your screen, next to the Apple icon.
    5.  Select the option that reads PREFERENCES.
    6.  The dialogue box that appears should say something like "When camera connected open."  From the pull down menu select IMAGE CAPTURE and then close the window.
The next time you connect the camera to the USB and power it on in replay mode, Image Capture should come up and download picture files on the camera.
I haven't tried this yet.  Just thought I'd post this info while I had the time.  I hope it helps you.

  • Premiere won't recognize my camera (Can't activate recorder. Try resetting camera.)

Ok I have a very perplexing situation.  I have been doing video editing for years but this is a new one for me.  I just got a new Windows 7 PC (64 bit) I7-8GB RAM Lenovo system.  I just installed Premiere CS5.5 on it and installed a new SIIG firewire card.  I have a Sony Mini-DV camercorder that works great and have been exporting with firewire on my previous 3 systems with no problem (last system was Win 7 64bit as well).  On this system I attach the camera via firewire cable and Windows instantly recognizes the camera and the general dialog box comes up asking me if I would like to capture video with Adobe Premiere, Cyberlink PowerDirector, or Windows Live Photo Gallery.   Both PowerDirector and Windows Photo Gallery I can open and capture video with no problems. However if I open Premiere in anyway (in DV mode) and bring up the capture window while the camera is on I get the message:  "Can't activate recorder.  Try resetting camera."   If I switch the camera off while the capture window is up it then switches to the message "Capture device offline".
So it seems the firewire card, camera are fine, but giving Premiere fits for some reason.   Side notes, I also have a Sony FX-1 HD camera which I can connect with the same firewire cable and inside Premiere and it will capture video but will not display it while capturing (I read this is common with High Def video though).   I also have disabled the Windows firewall as I read about in other threads.  I have tried 2 other firewire cards with the same exact results.  The mini-DV camera I'm trying to get Premiere to capture with is a Sony DCR-PC9 and I have used it in my last 3 systems all running Windows and Premiere. This is really frustating.
Any tips and or advice would be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you, Kirk

  • Ichat won't see isight camera

have had this probvlem in the past and solved it:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=564440&tstart=0
solution no longer works. I tried different isights, different cables. any thoughts?

    Hello Robert,
If I understand your original post correctly, you have the same symptoms using different cables and different iSights. That would seem to indicate problems within your Mac.
If my understanding is wrong, please disregard the following, post back, and let me know what I missed. However, if I have it right, consider any of the following that are relevant to your system. Try them in the order you prefer:
    (1) Check to see whether your Mac's System Profiler > Hardware > Firewire Device Tree recognizes iSight as a Firewire device. If you do not see iSight there, try the suggestions in What to do if your computer won't recognize a FireWire device.
    (2) Possible hardware or software conflicts
    (3) Mac OS X Maintenance
    (4) Try relevant suggestions in Apple's Tech Article titled iSight: How to Troubleshoot. Be sure to include the checks for whether the problem is "application-specific" and "user-specific".
If you need help creating a new user account to check whether your problem is "user-specific" during Troubleshooting, see Mac OS X 10.4 Help: Adding a new user account to your computer
    (5) Try applying the latest OS X Combo Updater as follows:
    - Backup your Home Folder, or at very least, your important files.
    - Repair permissions.
    - Then download and apply the Mac OS X 10.4.10 Combo Update (PPC)
    - Finish with another Permissions Repair, and then check your iSight again.
Users have reported fixes to a variety of audio, video, connectivity, and software conflicts and unreliability issues after properly applying Combo Updates.

  • IChat AV 2.1 on Mac Mini won't recognize iSight Camera

I am helping a friend connect an iSight camera to his new Mac Mini.
The green light on his camera comes on, but iChat's preferences panel claims no camera is detected. No green camera icon is displayed in the buddy list.
His camera works fine on my PowerBook G4.
    Please help if you can.

    Hi Larry,
Welcome to the Apple Discussion Pages.
    1) OK First he should try to kmake sure his computer is functioning as sweetly as it can.
Go Here and force the Cron scripts to run (See Routine Maintenance Tasks). Repair Permissinons afterwards as well.
    2) Also check the View menu in iChat and the Show Video Status should be Ticked. (Also check the Show Audio Status)
    3) In the Video menu the Camera Enabled item should be Ticked.
    4) If this does not help then delete
com.apple.ichat.plist as this holds the Camera details.
    Restart iChat afterwards.
This .plist file is in Users/(youraccount)/Library/Preferences.

  • IChatAv won't recognize my camera

I'm trying to set up iChat but it won't seem to see my camera (iMovie does). I just did a clean install of 10.3 and did all the updates to 10.3.9. My Quicktime is 7.0.1 and iChat is version 2.1. My camera is a Sony VX2000 and I have it turned on in camera mode. Running on a PowerMac G4. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks so much. -Julie

    HI Julie,
To certain extent a upgrade to Tiger would probably sort most minor problems with the way Panther was set up.
However iChat relies heavely on the settings within the OS and iChat to work properly.
    I would start here Gulliver, "kmosx3: Mac OS X 10.3/10.4: System maintenance", 06:15am Mar 27, 2004 CDT
Concentrate on the Routine Maintenance Tasks.
Then I would check the System Profiler > Firewire section to see if the camera is seen.
Then Check that in iChat >Preferences > Video section that the camera Microphone appears in the Microphone drop down. This will prove theat iChat can see the camera.
For the Quicktime issue, try this page of EZ Jim's http://ezjimfortestonly.blogspot.com/2005/07/help-for-ichat-av-3-problems.html
I would also delete the Quicktime Prefernces further down the list (it is best to view this folder in List View)
Have you got any Video add-ons as Quicktime plug-ins or additional input PCI cards ?
    Delicous Library ?
The change from TV to DV output from the camera may only be a menu item on the setup of the camera rather than a switch on the outside. (it might also be an auto selection when the cable is in use as you believe).
I would also open the Activity Monitor (Applications/Utilities) and see if anything is obvious there about any Video use in the background.
