IChat Won't Stay Offline Started.

I have the preference set to "When I quit, set my status to offline," but every time I start iChat it logs me in again. Any suggestions for a fix? I want to be offline when I open iChat.

Hi,
In iChat 5 and earlier that setting was one of two sub items to Show Status In Menu Bar (Menu Bar icon)
What is does is sign you out of AIM so that you don't get Off Line IMs.
The "Missing" setting allowed you to Not set "My Status as Available On Launch"
The closest you can get is to use the Menu Bar Icon to Set the Status as the means to Launch the app

  • IChat won't stay on the dock

Every time I put iChat on my dock, it disappears within a minute!
    What's wrong?
    Thanks,
    Ken

    Nope, that's not it.
I put the icon in the dock. A few seconds later it disappears. Poof. Now you have it now you don't.
There is nothing different from this icon and the others.
On my other 2 Macs, the icon stays in the dock. So, something must be corrupt somewhere, though I've just re-installed Leopard and the problem didn't go away.

  • IChat won't start after 10.4.3 update!!!!!

After I installed 10.4.3 iChat won't start. It would look like it was going to Launch and would quit. I looked at all the postings and found a couple of ideas, but nothing that worked. The only way I can get on is by disabling my network connection and then starting iChat and then re enabling my network connection. Any other ideas. Please let me know.

Ralph, no offense, I know you're trying to help this guy, but all you've done to offer him advice is to tell him what he already said he's doing and was trying to not have to perform every single time he wants to use iChat.
In his ORIGINAL post, he said exactly this:
The only way I can get on is by disabling my network connection and then starting iChat and then re enabling my network connection.
Please try and really read what someone asking for help is saying, then offer advice if you've got it. All it looks like here is that you weren't really paying attention to his problem in the first place.
As for me, I'm having much the same problem as a lot of people getting iChat to work, and I clicked on this seeing it had a reply thinking I was going to finally find an answer. It's a little frustrating to see people reply with exactly the same information they've already been given just being repeated back to them.

  • Service won't stay started!

    I'm running ZFH 5.1.
The darn service that runs on the windows servers won't stay started.
It will start up fine, run for about 5 minutes and then stop.
In the event logs there are no entries to show errors or problems.
The servers are Windows 2003 or Windows 2000. I've tried it on both versions.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Cheryl

  • So my iPhone 4S started draining battery after recent update, battery got changed and it worked perfect for 3 days, all of a sudden the phone won't stay on unless connected to mains... Cannot receive any signal "searching" constantly. HELP

So my iPhone 4S started draining battery after recent update, battery got changed and it worked perfect for 3 days, all of a sudden the phone  shut down and now won't stay on unless connected to mains... Claims its at 100% battery but thats impossible as it was at 30% before it shut down randomly.
Cannot receive any signal "searching" constantly.
Turns off as soon as removed from usb ... wont stay on connected to laptop!
    HELP!

The iPhone includes a one year warranty. If an Apple store is not nearby, you can call AppleCare and handle an exchange under warranty over the phone. The exchange will be shipped to your door - someone must sign for the delivery so if no one will be at home, have it delivered where you work. You use the same box to return the existing iPhone back to Apple. Return shipping label and tape to reveal the box incuded - call the carrier with number incuded when the box is ready to be picked up. AppleCare will request a credit card in the event the existing iPhone is not returned within 10 days after the exchange under warranty is received.
Hardware can fail - it happens, which is why there is a one year warranty.

OK, I tried setting Energy Savings to 1 minute. The Mac shut down and would not power back up via the power button, had to pull power plug. So it seems to be tied to the Energy settings.

  • IChat Won't Start

I am posting this for my friend who has a Macbook with Tiger 10.4.11 and iChat av 3.1.9. His iChat won't start up for some reason, that we are not sure of. We would click on the application and it would bounce for a while then come up and say "iChat has quit unexpectedly" then we would click retry, but with the same results. We don't have the initial Mac OS cd, but we tried deleting his current iChat and sharing my iChat(same version) with him. This still didn't work so we need some help to get his iChat up and running!

    Hi,
By default iChat should be in the Applications folder.
However a Previous moved copy may be linked to the icon on the DOCK.
You can find out where it thinks this coy is by Click and holding the iCon in the DOCK for the menu and then selecting *Show in Finder. * This will show the folder where that version is.
Now you should Right Click (Control Click) the name of the window that is open and it will show you the folder(s) that it is in.
    If it reads:
    Applications
    (Hard Drive name)
(Possibly Computer name if showing in the side Bar)
This it will be in the right place.
As the Log (errorLogLevel7) thing did not work I expect it will show it is somewhere else.
I ma not sure why the dyld item shows right after your
    /Applications/iChat.app/Contents/MacOS/iChat -errorLogLevel 7 part.
This may be a typo in entering the TERMINAL instruction.

  • Updated to Lion OS now IChat won't start up.

Updated to Lion OS and now IChat won't work.  When you try to start it you get the top portion of the icon with you picture and the camera icon to video chat but no buddies and all of the options in the menu are grayed out.

Check the hosts file or TCP/IP filtering, which might cause communication issues between iTunes, ports, and servers.

  • HT204075 email account won't stay online

Mac email connects to the internet but can't connect to the POP server or the SMTP server, so I can't send or receive. Checked all settings and they're correct. Settings show the mail account is "offline" but it won't stay online for more than a few seconds when I click "take all accounts online.

Triple-click the word "telnet" in the line below on this page to select the whole line:
    telnet pop.centurytel.net 995
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You should almost instantly get three or more lines of output below what you entered, one of which is this:
    Escape character is '^]'.
If there's no output within ten seconds, consider that a failure. If you get something different from the above, please post it in a reply. You can then quit Terminal.

  • Ichat won't open after leopard installation

I installed Leopard on 3 imacs and on my teenaged daughter's computer ichat won't connect. The message she gets is: "Could not connect to AIM...try again in a few minutes" But every time we wait and try again we still get the same message. The internet connection is fine. Any ideas? Should I reinstall Leopard???

    Hi Barbara,
If the Buddy List does not Appear and the Accounts are not listed in either the Window menu or the iChat Menu > Accounts then I only know of the Activity Monitor route.
The com.apple.ichat.plist (and others) are in Users/(here account)/Library/Preferences
She has to navigate there manually either from the Finder Window side bar or from the hard Drive (or her house icon is the same a Her Account).
I this case if iChat is open (but not showing anything except the menu bar) I would open Activity Monitor and find both iChat (with icon and iChatAgent (without icon)
Quit iChat. It should disappear in Activity Monitor.
iChatAgent stays there for a while. That is why it say Force Quit it.
Once both are quit I would delete all the .plist for ichat
    Then restart iChat.
it will use the Keychain and Address Book to prefill the Start Up Screens which she can click through.
This problems seems to be caused by a sudden drop out of the AIM server and corrupt info being in the .plist
It seems different people find it is different .plist that are effected, which is why I suggest dumping all of them.
    If this does not work.
While iChat is still open go to iChat > Preferences > Accounts > Server settings and change the port to 443 but without the SSL login.
If you do not have access to the preferences repeat the above and restart the computer not connected to the internet and then start iChat. It will still report it can not Login but should give you access to the Preferences.

My spooler won't stay running, I can't add printers.
Not able to figure out even after firewall on/off, network on/off and all setting to default...

    I recommended this step
    1. do printer troubleshooting
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/printer-problems-in-windows-help#fix-printer-problems=windows-8&v1h=win8tab3&v2h=win7tab1&v3h=winvistatab1&v4h=winxptab1
    2. Uninstall antivirus using removal tools (Kapersky)
    3. Registry trick as
JSB43211 suggested, backup your registry before perform this
    1. Open Regedit as Administrator
    2. Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\ key.
    3. If you are on a 64-Bit machine, browse to the "Windows x64" sub-key (else "Windows NT x86")
    4. Under the "Print Processors" sub-key DELETE ALL THE SUB-KEYS EXCEPT "winprint" key
    5. Start the Print Spooler service.
    6. Test to see if you can Add a printer.

  • Folders in Files Panel won't stay collapsed

There are 2 folders in my Files Panel which won't stay collapsed.  When I open Dreamweaver, they are expanded.  If I click the arrow next to them a few times they will eventually collapse, but then as soon as I open any other file or folder they re-expand themselves.  This first started back when I was using Dreamweaver CS5 with one folder which refused to collapse. A year later, I had updated to Dreamweaver CS6, and now had 2 folders which wouldn't stay collapsed. This morning I updated to Dreamweaver CC, and the same 2 folders still won't stay collapsed!
I searched the forum and found people with the same issue going back to 2007, but have yet to find any solution.  A few people recommended editing the Windows Registry - but I'm using the Mac version.  Several people said that they had some luck completely deleting the site settings and re-creating it - but that seems a bit extreme, plus several people said that it just started happening again later with another folder!
Does anyone have a permanent solution??
Here are a few of the other posts regarding this issue:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/4418090
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/975917
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/3596836
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/938616
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/809937
Also - just as an FYI.  If I rename the folder, it stops happening.  I can close and restart Dreamweaver and it stays collapsed. But, as soon as I rename the folder back - even if I do so after closing and reopening the program - it starts doing it again!!
Not sure if this is related either - but I saw in someone else's post that setting Related Files to Automatically, instead of Manual, fixed the problem.  I did try this, to no avail.  I even tried many times to turn off Related Files (by unchecking the Enable Related Files box in Preferences) but it keeps re-enabling itself!

As Jon Suggested , try rebuilding the site Cache
Allow me to Quote another DW user
First let me add here that I did find that when I upgraded to the new Creative Cloud version of DW and it imported my 12.0 site settings, the problem followed those settings into the 13.0 version.
Im on a Mac so these instructions would need to be taylored to the PC in regards to the location of the file referenced. And I am not sure if it's even the same file on the PC. So I can only speak for my experience on the Mac.
I've fixed my 12.0 version and my 13.0 version this way.
It was a corrupted "Site Prefs" file. I tried to fix it, but the entries where so mixed up that there was no way that was going to work. So I deleted the "Site Prefs" file and let DW recreate it.
In order to recreate the Site Prefs file, it meant loosing all of my site settings.
    To make things less painful...
Open DW and go to Manage Sites. Select all sites and do an export of all .ste files, with passwords and user names, into a temperary folder and close DW.
Now find file folder called "12.0" or 13.0" in the Library/Application Support/Adobe/Common/12.0 (13.0 for the cloud version)/Sites/ and rename it to "12.0_old" or whatever. (Note: you may need to Option-click the Go Menu in the Finder in order to get the Library choice to appear).
Reopen DW and it will recreate a new blank "Site Prefs" file. Go to "Manage Sites..." and click on "Import Site". Select all of the .ste files and import them.
DW will update the site's cache the first time you open each site and it might also ask you to give permission to access the password stored in you keychain. Choose "Always Allow" for each one.
That's it. Now my corrupted folder doesn't pop open every time I click on another folder.
    Mac OS 10.7.5
    DW CS6 (12.0 build 5861) &/or DW CC (13.0 build 6391)
As I said, this worked great for me. But use these steps at your own discretion.

  • MBP display won't stay off, wakes from sleep

I have a newish 15" MBP, 1680 display, hooked up to a Dell external monitor when it's at home. When I go to bed I cut power to the display via control-shift-eject, but generally don't put the computer to sleep overnight.
With this new machine, after it's been running for a while (as little as a day, or as long as a couple weeks), the displays will come on again in the night. Once this happens, the displays won't stay off for longer than about five seconds. If I then put the machine to sleep, it'll wake itself up minutes or hours later (generally not long enough to miss a Time Machine interval). The only cure is rebooting.
I tried an SMC reset, but that fix only lasted about as long as any other reboot.
I've since tried systematically removing every peripheral (a USB hub, the external display, any directly-connected iOS devices) and testing display-off after each; no change. I've turned off my Bluetooth keyboard and mouse, then disabled Bluetooth on the computer, turned off wifi, quit every menu extra (jitouch, Viscosity, Dropbox, Pastebot, Fastscripts, Transmit, Teleport), and quit every running application. The problem remains repeatable after every step.
It's repeatable at the moment — any suggestions for other things to try, preferably short of the reboot which temporarily masks the problem? I'm a little concerned that it's going to manifest at some point while I have the laptop sitting in a bag, which will then cook itself.
I'm on 10.6.4 now, the problem started on 10.6.3.
    Thanks.

Try checking the system logs in Applications/Utilities/Console.app for clues. The entries carry time stamps. Usually a wake event will leave some trace. By matching time stamps to the time of occurrence you may find the culprit.

  • Laptop won't stay on ac power..

Earlier today my monitor randomly started flashing from normal to dim over & over for about a minute because it was switching from ac adaptor to battery over & over.  This happened a couple times then stopped.  But soon, it became continuous   It won't stay on ac power now, it just keeps going back & forth & that causes my poor comp to freeze up.  The light on the ac adaptor starts flashing once the comp is turned on, otherwise it's on just fine.  Now I can't use my laptop because my battery doesn't last long enough & I can't keep it plugged in while on or the constant back & forth power struggle will freeze it up, as previously stated!  Is there a short on my motherboard or can I easily fix this problem?  Please help!  I have an HP Pavillion HDX 9300.

This is usually a symptom of a bad power jack.
    The part looks like this:

Sorry to say your jack is soldered to the motherboard and it is a pretty big job for the end user to try to fix it.

  • Mail & iChat won't launch - Please help

    Hey guys
So I was trying to make a clone of a HD from another computer using Carbon Copy Cloner because I was going to wipe it out and install Tiger. I wanted to make a backup copy to my computer so I used Target Mode to bring my computer's HD to the host computer and make the copy. This was the first time I used CCC so instead of making the HD an image file I selected Choose Target or something like that, then it started making a copy of it directly to my computer's HD. I stopped it when I saw it was copying all the files and folder to my computer's HD, I mean, I thought it would make a separate folder with the name of the HD I was trying to make a backup of and put everything in it. But no, I was wrong. Then I was able to make it an image file. Backed it up, everything ready for wipe out. After finishing with the backup I erased it, and then installed Tiger without a problem. Going back to my computer I encountered a problem, Mail and iChat won't launch. My guess is that when CCC started making the clone to my comp's HD it messed up something somewhere on my computer affecting them. So I'm asking you guys if you can give me a hand on how to fix this problem. If anybody knows how to make them work again please let me know as I need them to work, they're part of my work's tools.
Thanks a lot and I really appreciate your help!
