  • HELP Itunes wont launch after upgrading

I downloaded the latest Itunes, and then tried to launch it.
I keep getting the following message
"error getting file security :\C\program files\get last error 5
I have even tried to remove I tunes through the add & remove section in the control panel, but this also does not allow me to do this and i get the same message.
    Can someone help ???

I just bought a new iPod Nano and installed iTunes 7.02 sucessfully and it wont launch at all...it simply sits there.
    some preliminary questions.
are you getting an error message? if so, what does it say? include error message numbers if you're getting any.
or are you getting no error messages whatsoever when you try to launch itunes?
if you're getting no error messages whatsoever, do you just see the wee hourglass for a few seconds, and then nothing? if so, do you also have Norton Internet Security 2005 installed on that PC?
also, reboot the PC. bring up your Task Manager, and click on the "Processes" tab. now try to launch itunes again.
does an "itunes.exe" process appear in the Processes tab? if so, does it persist in there or does it disappear after a few seconds?

  • Soundtrack wont launch after upgrade to FCE 4

After upgrading to Final Cut Express 4, my soundtrack app from a previous version of FCE does not launch, I get a "Soundtrack quit unexpectedly" error. I tried to reinstall soundtrack from my original DVD but that changed nothing. I took it to the Apple store and they told me that since I upgrade to FCE 4, my old version of soundtrack will no longer work since that is not included with FCE anymore (only the studio version). However, I found an apple support page that says Soundtrack will be left unchanged (http://www.apple.com/support/releasenotes/en/FinalCut_Express_4.0rn/).
    Anyone have any ideas? thanks

I found some other threads talking about it, saying that the problem is with the last ProKit update which came a few months ago. Others suggested installing the old prokit, which seemed to work for some but did not for me. And also, when I installed the old prokit, Aperture stopped working for me so that was no good. I went to the Apple store and they were no help either... So in other words, no I didnt figure it out. Please let me know if you do though

  • Applications wont launch after upgrading to 10.5.8!!!!

Its an iMac G5 2GHz with 4GB of ram. What on earth has happened???? Machine was running 10.4 beforehand and now its useless. HELP!!!!!! Disk permissions repaired minor items. Disk first aid says disk is ok.

Exactly how did you upgrade from Tiger to Leopard? It sounds like you did so when your existing Tiger system was dysfunctional. I suggest you do the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.
You can do this using either Tiger or Leopard. If you want to install Leopard then do the above from the Leopard installer DVD.

  • Indesign wont launch after updates

Hi, I installed updates and now find that indesign software won't launch. I've tried the utilities repair process, but it didn'w work. Has anyone had the same problem or know of a solution?

Hi beadEditor, and a warm welcome to the forums!
I've tried the utilities repair process, but it didn't work.
Not exactly sure what that means, but...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Tiger Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to *re-apply some the latest/biggest updates*.
May even need to do an Archive and Install if you have room on the HD, but saves all your files and gives a new OS...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
I only use Software Update to see what is needed, then get them for real via...
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.
If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107120
Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

  • Ichat wont launch

Iv never used ichat before in my life..... my girlfriend got a mac so i decided to try out ichat to chat with her while im in class.... well i tried to open ichat and it bounced once and then nothing... iv tried everything i could think of to fix this problem and nothing... iv tried repairing permissions, tried restarting/shutdown, tried deleting various preference files, reinstalling iChat, and much more.... if any one has any ideas in how to fix this it will be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
    Welcome to the    Discussions
Starting up iChat for the First time should have got you the Start Up Screens.
This would normally ask you to enter an AIM (with a drop down Option for Apple @mac.com or @me.com names) valid Screen Name.
It also has spaces for your Real Name (Which may be pre-filled with your Address Book My Card entry details).
You can click through this screen (Manage without an AIM name).
There is a further Screen to enter a Jabber or Googlemail ID (GoogleMail IDs work with GoogleTalk and th Google Talk server is a Jabber server)
The Next screen Allows you to Enable Bonjour.
This will let you find other Macs on the Network (Local Area) if they have iChat Bonjour Option Enabled.
They will appear in a Bonjour titled Buddy List as their Address Book Entry.
    Alternatives.
You can click through all the Screens and then set up iChat by going to the App Menu > Preferences > Accounts
Bonjour can be Enables/Disabled here and (other) Screen Names added.
At this point if you clicked through the Start Up Screens and Bonjour is Not Enabled then there will be no Buddy List to Display and apart from iChat being listed as the Current Front App it will look inactive.
    Notes.
iChat can remember where a window was left the last time it was started up.
The Red Button/blob at the top of any iChat windows does not close the App
The ones on Text Chats or Video/Audio chats close the Chat only.
The ones on the Buddy Lists can "Hide" the Buddy List but do Not log you out.
To Re-display a window in this state you should go to the Window Menu and click on the Buddy List name (or use the Keystrokes listed)
At this point your posts tells us nothing about the processes or options you used listed above.
It is difficult to say if iChat was acting properly or not.
As you reinstalled and have not said what Level the Install Disk is Defcom has replied with the more Pressing problem now.
At 10.5.8 iChat has received several Updates that came as part of the OS Updates that you seem to have Installed.
If you use Software Update then these would have been Incremental from the Install Disk Level (either the 10.5 base Level or I think 10.5.5 with some new machines).
So you will need to do the COMBO Update Defcom has suggested.
For iChat at this point it should list itself as Version 4.0.8
There is a further issue in that OS 10.5.8 itself has received some major-ish updates via Security Updates to a sort of 10.5.8+ level.
In the process iChat reports in some places it is Version 4.0.9
Once you have done the basic COMBO Update can you go to the Apple Menu > About this Mac and report what Build number it lists (Click the Line that reads 10.5.8)
Do you use Time Machine ?
As this may be an easier way of getting a correct version iChat back on your Mac.
    Go to the Application Folder
Click the Time Machine icon in the DOCK
Go back in time on the right to before the period when you deleted iChat and highlight it.
    Click Restore.
Can you confirm that in the Applications Folder if you Highlight iChat and do a Get Info (Finder > File Menu > Get Info or the Keystrokes it lists) that iChat is at Version 4.0.8 as listed here ?
Can you confirm that if you highlight iChat in the Applications Folder and do a Quick Look that it reports it is version 4.0.9 and version 4.0.8 ?
If you now Start iChat and go to the iChat Menu > About iChat it should report it is at Version 4.0.9
If it does not we will have to point you to the Security Updates to manually Install them again. (Software Update keeps Receipts and will not find them again)
Can you also confirm how you set up iChat ? (in terms of Screen Names or Bonjour)
Sorry to go on so much.

  • Itunes wont launch after update

After updating Itunes the application will not launch

  • Itunes wont launch after 7.6 install

It appears that itunes installs successfully but when i try to lauch it, I get a message "application failed to start because 3ivx_dec.dll was not found". Reinstalling may fix this problem. I tried reiinstalling and same error.

i had the same problem with vista enterprise edition 32bit. uninstalled and reinstalled itunes 7.6.2.9 a few times and got the missing 3ivx_dec.dll error each time. ditto for quicktime to see if this was the culprit
followed the advice and went to www.3ivx.com and downloaded the codec and it seems to be working now too.

  • Windows wont launch during XP SP2 install

I'm having issues installing XP SP2 (OEM) on my Macbook Pro system w/ Boot Camp 2.0, Leopard 10.5.2. Windows wont launch after 100% of files are copied from the disc during the install process.
Boot Camp partitions HD correctly and asks for the Windows Install Disc. System restarts from the CD and begins installation - I access the blue screen where I select XP partition - 'C: Partition3 (Bootcamp) (FAT32)'. I hit Enter and installation begins. B.C. setup manual shows 2nd blue screen where you select the file system you want (FAT file or NTFS file) - I have not seen this screen yet. Does this appear after installation? Installation begins and progress bar installs through 100% in 20-30 minutes.
At 100%, computer immediately restarts to black screen and "Press any Key to continue" appears. If I press key, original installation screen appears and it takes me through the exact same process I just did. If I don't hit a key, error occurs and the screen freezes at "Press any Key". If I restart, original install screen appears and Windows re-starts installation. I'm stuck in a loop. I erased the partition with B.C., re-partitioned, but still the same result.
Any advice? I need this for school ASAP.
    Thanks,
    j

I watched a Youtube Video about installing so I see where the problem is. I don't see the initial End-User License agreement screen, and after I select 'C: Partition3 (Bootcamp) (FAT32)', the "Select File System" screen that is supposed to immediately show up does not appear. What gives? I know OEM should work with Boot Camp.

  • Itunes wont launch, though it says its running

So heres the deal, got a new comp a few weeks ago and installed itunes on it. I'm running windows XP pro (same as on old one) and when I try to run itunes it wont launch. It says its running in my task manager though. I've tried reinstalling it, but same thing happens. Any suggestions? Thanks!

ok i think we might be onto something here with the first link, the dosent open after upgrade one. Everything went fine until step 7, the main SCinfo file exists, but the SC Info.sidb file that it shows being inside there is NOT there. Could this be a problem with the installation or something else?
Though i suppose if it wasent there at all it shouldent hurt as your supposed to delete it anyways....but if thats the case (I certainly didnt delete it already)and the fix is to delete a file that isnt there anyways, i'm not sure that will help.

  • Itunes wont launch...help.

I've installed and uninstalled itunes a million times, but it still wont open when i click on the desktop icon...will someone that knows about this issue please help?

I dont have nortons antivirus, but i do have modzilla fire fox, avg free and NOD32 could this be causing the problem?
hmmm. i don't usually associate nod32 with error-message-free itunes launch failures (although sometimes i've seen it interfere with itunes writing to library files). and the brief appearance of itunes.exe is more consistent with malware problems than security software interference. but we'd better check on the security software interference angle anyway.
try making sure that both itunes and ituneshelper are being allowed full access to the internet in your nod32. if you have to change your nod settings to do that, reboot the PC afterwards. do you get an itunes launch after the reboot?

Aperture 3 wont launch. I get a message saying opening Aperture library for a few seconds then the spinning wheel shows up, then nothing.... until i click the software update button in the top left drop down, then as if by magic Aperture opens up on the screen. Everything was fine until I updated. Does anybody have any ideas. The same happens with Lightroom 3 also.

And it behaves normally after that? Do you by any chance have Spaces enabled with Aperture assigned to any particular Space? If so, try disabling *System Preferences->Expose & Spaces->Spaces* temporarily and see if there's any change.
