IChat wont work when I send the invite
iChat used to work fine for me but up until a few months ago whenever I send out an invitation to a non-iChat using person it won't connect. But it will connect if they send me an invite. And even if they send me an invite, the audio wouldn't work, they could hear me but I can't hear them. But it works fine with other iChat users. help? I'm using version 5.0.3

How do I get Video and Audio Chats with PCs ? iChat FAQ 3 (Updated 3/4/2009)
Applies to iChat 2.x, iChat 3.x and iChat 4.x to any version of AIM on a PC before AIM 6.1See bottom section on AIM 6.5 and 6.8 on XP and Vista.
This piece is designed for those trying to connect Mac to PC for Video and Audio chats. Any iChat version Panther and up.
Glossary For This FAQ This bit is designed for clarity.
Video is the sending and /or receiving of pictures and sound.
Audio is the sending and or receiving of sound only.
One-Way is the ability to start either an Audio or Video chat from one end to a recipient who can not match your capabilities (or Vice Versa)
What is needed
At the Mac end
A Mac running OS 10.3.x and iChat AV ver 2.1 or 10.4 plus iChat 3 or Leopard and iChat 4
A DSL/Cable/Fibre (Broadband) connection of at least an up link speed of 256kbs.
An AIM , @mac.com or MobileMe (@me.com) account name.
(hosting Multiple person Mac to Mac AV chats requires higher specs and broadband uplink speed).
At the PC end
1 PC running windows XP (home or Pro). THIS A MUST
The AIM Standalone Application, currently at ver. 5.9 at this link. AIM (the Site) now call this version Classic and it cannot be Installed On Vista AIM is now up to version AOL Instant Messenger 7.5.8.3
Note: there is also Trillian which has a Pro version for $25 that can also Video and Audio chat. The Basic version just Texts and Audio Chats (AIM does not Audio chat) This Pro Version was version 3.2 They now offer version 4
Some need the aimrtc12.exe file from Here Mostly Earlier than XP or Pre Service Pack 2 XP versions of Windows
An AIM account/screen name (AOL or Netscape count as well) http://www.ralphjohns.co.uk/page12.html#_Service
Service Pack 2 info. This info will allow the PC user to enable AIM thorough the XP Firewall (It applies to later versions of WIndows as well).
The Windows Firewall did not exist as such before this.
Between both of you.
At least one camera (Mac end works better)
A sound input device (the camera, if it has one is ok)
Your Buddies screen/account name in each others Buddy Lists.
Other tweaks
For some people, using AIM on a PC, may also have to make sure their preferences (properties) are set in the AIM Buddy list, for their camera and /or Mic. (Tuning at Message 570)
This is an icon button lower right on the Buddy List marked "Prefs" (AIM 5.5). This leads to the Preferences. Drop down the list until you read Live Video. Click on this. In the new window that opens click the button that says Tuning Video and Audio. Follow the instructions in the wizard that opens up. Access in AIM 5.9 for this is in the My AIM menu at the top of the Buddy list and then Options
To Start
You should now be able to chat to each other. If each of you has a camera it can be full Video , as described in the Glossary at the top.
To start from the Mac end, select (highlight) your Buddy with one click. His camera icon should be dark. Click on the icon near his name or the one at the bottom of the Buddy List. (You do not have to start a text chat).
To start from the PC end you need to start a text chat, then select the Video icon at the bottom of the chat window.
If one of you has a camera and the other has a Mic then you will be able to chat One Way but have sound will be both ways.
To start this type of chat from the Mac end you will have to go to the menu item "Buddies" and drop down to the item "Invite to One Way Video Chat" (In later versions of iChat this is added to the right/Control Click pop up menu)
To start this from a PC follow the directions in the paragraph above. You may need to change the tab to the incoming Video at the back of the two to see the Video. These tabs are added when the Video chat starts and the front one normally states you do not have a camera and shows a connection to buy one.
It is also possible to chat One Way if the other person does not have a Mic: replies will have to be typed in a Text chat.
No Camera and No Mic will cause iChat to End the chat with "No Data Received for 10 Secs"
Summary
PC end gets AIM 5.9 or Trillian Pro.
The PC end allows the app through the XP Firewall.
AIM 5.9 needs "Tuning" to Camera and Mic.
For any sort of sound to a PC using AIM, (Talk in PC or Audio in iChat) the Mac will need a camera.
The other person can have a Mic and then live chats with sound both ways and Pictures (Video) One-Way.
NOTE: At This Time It Is NOT Possible to Audio (sound only) between Mac & PC with AIM & iChat Trillian Basic can Audio. Trillian Pro can Video and has a bigger picture and can do Full Screen. Another explanation of the set up can be found Here about AIM 5.5 but is transferable to AIM 5.9. And Also here My Web Pages particularly all of Page 12: What if your Girlfriend Lives a Long Way Away ? have more information.
AIM 6.5 and 6.8 On Vista and XP
AIM 5.9 or earlier can not be installed on Vista.
AIM 6.5 and 6.8 use a new video codec with a description of "Real Time IM" AIM have an FAQ page about this.
Under the title about Requirements is this quote.
What do I need to use Real-Time IM? You and your buddy need to be using AIM® 6.8 or higher to use Real-Time IM. Unfortunately, Real-Time IM does not yet work with older AIM clients, iChat®, or AIM® for Mac®.

have Mozilla Firefox as my browser vs Internet explorer. This morning when I tried to open Mozilla after several attempts it said it had crashed with a window that I could check the box to send the report to Mozilla but it wont even let me send the report I can get on the internet with explorer but dont want to go back to that so would I just delete mozzila and start all over or will that not clear up the problem? Im lost help

When I send Outlook invites to my iPhone (via email) the appointments appear 3 hours earlier? The time setting appears to be EST which is accurate so I can't figure out why the appointments don't appear in real time. Thanks for your help, Ellen
1) The best way to relocate the iTunes library folder is to move the entire iTunes folder with all subfolders to the new path, then press and hold down shift as start iTunes and keep holding until prompted to choose a library, then browse to the relocated folder and open the file iTunes Library.itl inside it.
If you've done something different then provide some more details about what is where and I should be able to help.
2) Purchases on the device should automatically transfer to a Purchased on <DeviceName> playlist, but it my depend a bit on whether automatic iCloud downloads are enabled. If there is a cloudy link then the transfer might not happen. You can use File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. In iTunes you should also check out iTunes Store > Quick Links > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer.
3) Backup the device, then immediately restore it. In some cases you need to add a restore as new device into that equation. Obbviously not to be attempted until you're sure all your media is in your library. See Recover your iTunes library from your iPod or iOS device should it be needed.
4) I believe there is complimentary 1 incident 90-day support with hardware purchases, but no free software support for iTunes itself. AppleCare gets you a different level of support.

Just got a new imac and my iwork software wont work. I have the serial numbers but after migrating from my old mac running OSX tiger it won't even give me that opportunity. I do not have any discs as this was downloaded. Help

The built in email program does sound an alert for new messages.

You could set the iMac to go to sleep after non use. My Macs are
always sleeping when not in use, waking them up takes seconds.
Unlike windoze, never knew if it would be locked up or not.
5. Should I get the extended warranty? I'm usually
against them, but I am expecting this computer to
last me at least 3 years (for $1300 it better!)
before I upgrade, as I got that much out of a Dell
and from what I understand, Mac's do not age nearly
as fast as Windows pc's.
It is well worth the cost. Never know what might happen. Also
it is good insurance for future upgrades. I traded in my G4 tower
purchased two years ago for 75% of what I paid for it. Apple care
transfers, giving the buyer the remainder of your warranty.

ICal can't send the invitation
When I typed the first letters of a contact and then it suggested its full contact name as is in Adress BookI clicked it but got a response that iCal is unable to send the invitation though the contact is in my Adress Book and this is the first time really when it fails to send an invitation: it used to work nicely before. Help me, please to make it work again!

How can i restore my iphone which was erased by iCloud?? I got my phone back but it wont work when i connect to iTunes.

Go to Settings>General>Reset and tap Erase All Content and Settings. This will erase your device. Then you will go through the setup screens again as you did when your device was new, and when given the option, select Restore from iCloud Backup.

I can't get the Siri dictation tool to work when I access the Internet via Wi-Fi at work. It will work if I access the Internet with a cellular connection. What can I do to get it to work on the Wi-Fi?
Thanks for your note. My tech dept could not come up with any explanation for the dictation tool not working. We have about 1,000 employees in our office - I think I will send an all employee message to see if anyone else has the issue.

iChat automatically opens when anyone sends me a message, even after I have quit out of iChat. How do I turn this off? I can't find any settings anywhere related to this.

This is somewhat the default.
I take it that this is an AIM name (Or one that logs in to the AIM Servers) ?
The AIM Service includes Off-Line IMs
By default it is On in iChat.
If the AIM Server is not sure it has your Settings it will ask if you want to receive Off Line Messages in an alongside IM from AIMSysMessage that pops up at the same time.
If you say No your account at AIM has that setting made.
If you do say No and want to change it later you have to Sign In on the aIM Web Site and go to Your Account Settings and change it.
Same if you are not getting Prompted or said Yes and now don't want them.

My iphone wont work - computer text above the apple
My iphone wont work - when I charge it I get the apple sign but it has computer language above it. Its not recongised in itunes so I cannot reinstall the software.
Any ideasProbably a hardware failure. Make an appointment at an Apple store and bring it in to be evaluated.

That tutorial only shows how to upload to a specific location so the image can
be displayed in an iframe.
Search for "php file upload scripts" to see how to upload to a file system and store the metadata in the database.

As you are seeing, DW code is very limited in what it can do. It also generates code that is not up to current standards,and is very difficult to work with if you need to modify it. Basically, it's junk. Forget it and learn how to read and write code. There are tons on tutorials on how to get started with PHP. DW Server behaviors only seem like a time saver in the beginning. In the end, you'll end up wasting more time using them than learning how to code yourself. -
Having Problems Updating iTunes 10.6.3, it wont update when I click the download button to update the itunes. What should I do to fix the issue? And does Anyone esle have this problem?
Just want to update the problem everybody is having downloading the new update. If you waited, and didn't try to reinstall or anything, it looks like a "fix" is coming to you. My previous ITunes was working fine so I decided to just wait it out and see if Apple would fix it. Knew it wasn't my computer because of all the same questions in this forum. And I want to let all to know that when I signed on to my computer today an Apple Software Update window popped up on my desktop. (Not the little one we've all been clicking on from the ITunes screen.). This came up right on my desktop. I clicked on it to download and it worked like a charm. After it was done downloading I pulled up ITunes and all looked great, all my purchases, songs were still there. I then plugged in my IPod and then my IPad and they both synced, etc., ....all is well again! So it you didn't try to re-install or anything, and have just been waiting and using your current version of ITunes, be patient. Looks like the fix will be coming to you, too.

There is a hardware problem. Whether it's worth it to you to have no working phone for 2 months until you can update vs paying for replacement/repair now is a question only you can answer.
