IChat works unless encrypted.

I am able to video and audio iChat without encryption, but if encryption is enabled on both machines I get the message:
"Security could not be verified for (person I am contacting).
iChat was unable to establish an encrypted connection between you and the person claiming to be (person I am contacting).
Encrypted conferencing with them will be disabled until the next time they log in."
However, when I click on a buddy name (ie for text messaging) it works normally and shows the message is encrypted.
If encrytion is removed from either machine I can connect.I have trashed plists, revoked and reestablished the security certificate, confirmed that the .mac accounts are valid, rebooted etc. There is an airport on one machine but as mentioned I get through fine without encryption.
Any ideas?

I have looked in the iChat Help item.
I chose New Feature> Encryption > Trouble Shooting
Make sure you have a paid .Mac account and that it has not expired.
Make sure you and your buddies are using Mac OS X v10.4.3 or later.
Make sure the .Mac Secure iChat certificate is in your keychain and has not expired. To check, open Keychain Access, located in Applications > Utilities, and double-click the .Mac Secure iChat certificate to display the expiration date.
Make sure the date and time are correct on your computer.
If your Secure iChat certificate is not in your keychain, and you have used secure iChat on a different computer, sign into your .Mac account to install a copy of your Secure iChat certificate on your computer.
If you are unable to retrieve a copy of your Secure iChat certificate from the .Mac website, you may need to copy your certificate from the other computer and install it in your keychain on the computer you are using. To do this, locate the certificate in your keychain on the computer you have used to secure iChat. Choose Export from the File menu. Copy the exported certificate to your other computer, and double-click the file to open it in Keychain Access. Choose login from the Keychain pop-up menu and enter your administrator password if necessary.
Make sure you are chatting with buddies in your Buddy List, not your Bonjour or Jabber list.

They may be blocking ports other than the standard web surfing, pop/imap email, and authenticated sending email ports. That's why I suggested to Kristin to see about getting a public IPA. You need to see if you can get a public IP address assignment that attaches you outside Hotel Concorde's firewall, too. It has been my experience at Marriott properties, that they seem to block numerous ports (like the non-standard ssh port that I use for ssh and numerous encrypted tunneled traffic of otherwise non-encrypted services), but they have a signin option when you signup for internet access on their signin webpage, to get a public IPA that bypasses their firewall. My experience with Hilton properties is that they did not block any ports. I am not familiar with Hotel Concorde properties. You need to find out if they are blocking any of iChat's ports, or using VoIP or other SIP like services that may be causing you problems. IF you can get a public IPA that attaches you outside their firewall, there should not be any issue.

Infrared Remote not working unless held very close to AppleTV

I'm not sure if there is a problem with the remote or AppleTV. The remote only works if held approx. 8 inches away from the AppleTV. The remote works fine with the computer and will control the Mac from the other side of the room. I was expecting the remote to work from at least a few feet away from the AppleTV. It seems pointless having a remote if you have to get up and hold it next to the AppleTV to make it work. The remote App on my iphone works fine anywhere in the room but I would still like the infrared remote to work. Has anyone had any issues similar and is there something I can do to fix this ?

My iPhone will not work unless I plug it into my wall charger, It is fully charged but only works when it is plugged in to wall charger. When it is turned on it say "Restore needed iphone can not make or receive calls' i tried plugging it up to Itunes but it will not turn on to sync.

First try a hard reset, press and hold the power button and home buttons until the phone restarts and displays the Apple Logo, then let go.
If that doesn't work...
Try forcing recovery mode and then restore with iTunes.

IChat works but not when I want video chat?!

On my MBP the iChat work perfect, but on iMac does not want to go on video. Gives me an error and ask to be reported to Apple( which I do all the time). The network is the same, same firewall same 10.5.2.
Anybody can give an idea.

Go to settings/music/volume limit tap on that. Make sure it is set to OFF and when you tap it that the slider is at max

I got my screen fixed and the day i got my ipod touch 4th gen back the wifi doesnt work unless i hold it right up to my router. Roughly every foot I move back it loses a bar and if i leave the room it doesn't even have a signal completely.

No. Back it up anyway. If you can't use the built-in backup function of iTunes, find the library in the Windows Explorer and back that folder up as you would any other.

Nano will not work unless plugged in

Hello.
I have searched through the help section and through the forums, but I can not seem to crack this problem.
My inlaws told me there iPod nano would not work anymore. They simply told me that they could not get it to come on. I thought I could fix it rather easy. Turns out that it isn't that easy.
The nano will only work when I have it plugged up. It says it is fully charged. When I unplug the nano, the screen dims out for a second and then goes to gray as if it were off. I can not get it to come back on however. When it is plugged in, I can navigate through the nano as if there are no problems. As soon as it is unplugged however it acts dead.
Any suggestions? I've tried resetting. Doesn't work unless plugged in...and didn't solve the problem. I've done the five r's. No problems with the hold button...

Looking for the complete guide to making iChat work

Has anyone put together something akin to The Complete Troubleshooting Guide to Making iChat Work ?
Even just a Top Ten best suggestions would be handy.
Sometimes Screen Share and video works great. But with some people, it doesn't. I'd love to know how to troubleshoot the problem when it occurs.
For me, I finally just set my router to DMZ. From what I understand, this opens up every port in the known universe on my end. I realize that this is akin to leaving the front door unlocked, but I got so fed up with not being able to use iChat.
Given that DMZ is turned on, does that guarantee that the issue is never on my end? Or are there still things that can make iChat video/audio/ Screen Share not work from my end. Or can I assume that the issue is always on the other side.
Last question: where do I find the iChat log? I did searches through the Help menu, but couldn't find out where that resides, and how to get at it for helping report problems.

AOL and iChat work sometimes

I am trying to figure out why AOL and iChat work sometimes and other times it doesn't. I am trying to video chat with a family member and some of the time I can make a connection just fine and other times we get error code 8. If it was a firewall issue wouldn't it never work?

For the last several days, I haven't been able to log onto my screen name. I have a mac book pro and have kept my aim screen name and used it for my ichat as well. I have done this successfully for the last few months.
But now every time I attempt to log on to my ichat or aim I receive the same error message. "You have attempted to log in too often in a short period of time. Wait a few minutes before trying to login again." I waited about 10 minutes before attempting to log into ichat again and the same error message came up. I waited an hour and then attempted to log onto aim and the same error message appeared. I then decided to wait a day and try on a different computer and the same error message appeared when I attempted to log into my aim screen name on the mac and the dell computers.
However, I am able to log onto both ichat and aim using my friend's screen name. Therefore, it appears as though the problem is with my screen name and not with the computers connection or with aim as a whole. I really need to use the screen name as I have had it for over ten years and don't want to change it at this stage. Please help me fix this problem as I seem to have attempted everything.

I get that it's a safety issue and battery drain both, to not allow it unless plugged in but does that mean Google ("Ok Google") doesn't care about our safety?
It's poor implementation I think. Battery drain isn't at all horrible on Android when it's always listening and I'm not starting that argument because i like iPhone and Apple just as well but it seems like there could have been other battery saving things to disable other than one that's very handy regardless of having to be plugged in.
