ICloud Account appears twice in Calendar & Notes

A few of my iCloud Accounts appears twice in Calendar & Notes but when I go to system preferences I see them only once.
So, in both applications I see all duplicated — I can deselect a calendar in iCal but it's more annoying in Notes where you can't click what you want to see.
When I want to go and delete the duplicate account from the main preferences I only see each account once.
Crazy, huh?

On the iCloud website I see everything alright, one of each, no duplicates.
On my Mac:
- Notes, no notes at all...
- iCal: no duplicates, but I see a few calendars twice. When I click Preferences - Accounts, I see no duplicate accounts!
- Address Book is a mess, some contacts appear like seven times, I looked for duplicates and merge them many times.

Ok.
Open System Preferences, Apple Logo icon in the menu bar and then System Preferences or the Sys Pref iocon in the Dock and go to the Internet Accounts area and look at your iCloud account. It should list what is and isn't synced by a checkmark next to each item.
Also in the Contacts app click on Contacts in the menu bar and select Preferences then accounts and make sure your iCloud account is listed. You can also do that from the Internet Accounts area in System Preferences.

Depending on whether you want to stop using iCloud on all or only some devices, do one or more of the following:
On your iOS device’s Home screen, go to Settings > iCloud, then at the bottom of the screen, tap Delete Account
Once you've performed this step go back to Settings and add the correct iCloud account.

Birthday's appearing twice in calendar app after adding to contacts

Hi all,
I recently started adding birthdays to my contacts on my phone. After doing this, each birthday appears twice in the calendar app (on the birthday calendar with gift icon). This also creates a duplicate of that contact in my contact list. These duplicates do not appear on iCloud.com, just my phone. Any ideas on how to resolve this?

Check Settings > General > Restrictions, and check out Contacts toward the bottom under the privacy restrictions.
That sounds like the probable cause you cannot add contacts.
Regarding the iCloud behavior, that sounds like it got huge (35,000) because of incorporating other contacts (from social media, perhaps). Also contacts sync has nothing to do with iCloud behavior. The whole idea of keeping your contacts in the cloud is that once you change them on one device, they change everywhere. Specific syncs are not relevant.

Whenever a menu choice is grayed out, that is because you have Restrictions turned on in Settings. Be sure to turn it off.
You are confusing an itunes store account with an icloud account. You two can continue using the same ID for itunes (thus sharing purchased music, apps, etc.), but you really should have separate accounts (different IDs) for icloud, since an account is intended for one user to keep his/her devices in sync.
To create a new icloud account, go to

Then go to Settings>icloud and scroll to the bottom of the screen and tap Delete Account. (have restrictions turned off) That will disconnect the device from the account but will not delete data in icloud or other devices. Then sign in using the new ID.

Can I share contacts and notes between two iCloud accounts without sending every contact/note?

My wife and I have been sharing my iCloud account which is very convenient because we automatically get the same calendar, contacts and notes on our devices. If I were to put her on a separate iCloud account, can we automatically share our contacts and notes without having to send every single one every time a change is made? I understand that the calendars can be shared fairly easily with family sharing but the others may be more problematic.

Thanks for the reply. That's how I set it up originally. Although the new iOS 7 update lost some functionality. I found the following on the TUAW website. The Safari Bookmarks and Find My Phone options have been removed from the secondary iCloud accounts options. This is the problem. Everything worked great before we updated. I guess "new way" consolidates the iCloud accounts better with Maverick? Now I will have extra documents on my phone that I don't need. We will both have to share the same iCloud storage and backup space too. Have to try it out and see how it works. Thanks.

Can't get iCloud account to show up in Notes app

Greeting, all.
Not sure whether this is an iCloud issue, but here's the deal:
On my Air, I can't get my iCould account to show up in Notes (the account IS showing up in Notes on my iMac and iPhone, just not on the Air). The iCloud account is enabled on the Air, and in all other ways is functioning and syncing fine. Likewise, Gmail is showing up in Notes and synching on all three devices. The problem appears limited to the just the iCloud account, just on the Air, and just in Notes.
One other strange thing: on the Air, my old MobileMe account is showing up in Notes (but not on my other two devices). I see no way to remove this account from Notes, and the account is not even showing up in the Accounts preference pane.
Any idea why this happening and what I can do to fix it?

Sorry, I was assuming you were talking about an iPad Air. If you mean your MacBook Air, go to System Preferences>iCloud and uncheck both Notes and Mail, then restart it and go back and check them again.

MobileMe inbox and account appear twice

In Mail on the iPad, my MobileMe Inbox appears twice under Inboxes, as does the account under Accounts. And the number of unread messages in the red circle is twice what it should be, reducing by two every time I read one of them.
In settings the account only appears once.
This seems to hav happened since I synched with the MBP a few days ago, although the two might not be related.
Any ideas?

One of my email accounts appears twice in the Folders pane. No idea why.

I have several accounts in Thunderbird. One of them appears twice - I know it's an exact copy becasue if I rename one folder, both accounts have the new name. The other accounts show only once. Mystified.

@christ1 Yes, using the same logic windows limit is something like 16 extbytes. Reality is 4Gb pulls it up.
There has been recent work on the messageid that will be in the next release, might even have made it into a recent security and stability release. But until that happens Thunderbird has 4Gb limited messageid numbers. I am still not convinced a non IMAP folder can be successful in the 4Gb plus range. Only time will convince me all the ugly realities have been fixed.

Two iCloud accounts cause trouble with Calendar

Hello!
Accidentially I set up a second iCloud account on my second MacBook Pro. I know that was stupid... Now I want to fix this and only use one account to sync everything between my two MacBooks and iPhone.
I set up the same iCloud account in the preferences of all apps like contacts and calendar on all my devices as well as in the system preferences/icloud. It works well for contacts but not for calendar. Calendar on my second MacBook and iPhone is not switching to the new iCloud and its evets. It still shows the old events and doesn't sync.
I already tried switching iCloud off and back on after a minute for the calendar. Even waiting for 2 days and restarting the computer doesn't help.
Can I somehow delete the second iCloud account and all its data to maybe fix the trouble by that?
Btw: I have all latest software and updates on my devices.

You could simply set up calendar sharing (see also: https://support.apple.com/kb/PH2690). Justopen the calendar app on your iOS device, click calendars, and then the little "i" icon, here you can add other people and share your calendar.

The iTunes account on my iPad Air was also updated, but I can't change or get rid of the old iCloud account on my iPad and I don't know what the old password is for the old account. How can this account be deleted off my iPad, please help!

If your device is signed into an old iCloud ID that is an earlier version of the ID you want to sign in with, do the following:
If you are using iMessage and FaceTime, make sure you are signed into these services with your current ID. If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID. Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change. (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.) Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID). Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll (unless you are using iCloud Photo Library). When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud). Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was. Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).

Can I share an icloud account with my wife but not share contacts?

My wife and I want to share the same icloud account. We both have iphones, and our contacts are getting messed up. Is there a way of storing our contacts separately? Or do I need to create a new icloud account for my wife? If so, how do I do that, as both our e-mail addresses are already linked to the existing appleID.

I personally would recommend to use two different Apple IDs/iCloud accounts for iCloud. And of course, you would still be able to share calendars, reminders and you could still set up "your" account as a secondary account on her device, so that she could also still access your email address.
To set up a new primary account, please go to Settings > iCloud > Delete Account (This would only delete the account from the device). Then create a new account here. After you set up her new account, you could add your account as a secondary iCloud account in "Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendar > iCloud" and then activate just only Mail (and of course keep contacts turned off).
