Icloud Account Won't Log on (or allow me to sign out) on iphone

I have a very frustrating issue. I've never used iCloud but tried to set up an account and log-on using my Iphone 6 but it wont let me. When I go to settings and then iCloud on my iphone - it asks me to enter password for my Apple ID - and i enter my password. It then says "Verifying" on top and has the spinning wheel but the entire page is greyed out (I can't click anything). I verified my email for icloud using my computer, and then tried logging on to icloud on my iphone and again just says verifying with the spinning wheel (and the greyed out screen i can't even click on 'log out"). I went to icloud.com and it said that although my user name is valid i need to "set up ICloud on a device" but when i try to do that it again gets me back to square 1.
Does anyone have any clue how to fix this? Thanks in advance!

You've encountered iCloud Activation Lock. Contact you friend and have him follow the directions here:

Welcome to the Apple Community.
You can only locate your device when it is logged into iCloud and 'Find My Phone' is enabled, additionally the device will need to be switched on and connected to a wifi or cellular network.
Unfortunately, you cannot activate iCloud or 'Find My Phone' remotely.
If the device is wiped by you or another, you may not be able to locate the device (although some have reported they can)

You can't. Your mysterious benefactor must remove the device from her (I guess you know it's a her?) iCloud account by logging into icloud.com, going to Find my iPhone and removing from there.

My email recently changed and so I updated my Apple ID to reflect my new email, but my Icloud account still shows the old email as the username on both my Iphone and Ipad and for the life of me I can't figure out how to change or delete it.

You have to go to Settings>iCloud and tap Delete Account, then sign back in with your updated credentials. This deletes the account and your synced data from your device, but not from iCloud. Provided you are signing back into the same account and not changing to a different account, your data will be synced back to your device when you sign back in.

I have deleted the iCloud account under my name on their iPads and replaced with their ones. Apple support said yesterday I needed to click the small 'I' by each name as it came up in the TO box and remove it. After doing rid for each contact under each letter of the alphabet it should remove them from latest contacts. Having done this, although I could not remove groups I had sent, I am not convinced they will not return once I have written a few texts, any ideas?

HT4863 i have Cox cable and all of a sudden my Icloud account won't send messages, only receive. Doesn't recognize my smtp address. Any suggestions on setting up the smtp address?

I have an Imacand Cox Cable. For some reason, recently, I cannot send email from my Icloud account, on;y receive. It says it is not connecting with my smtp.me.com account, but I haven't changed that from when it was working a few days ago. Any suggestions?

You should check that your settings (both directions) match this:
IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

SSL Required: Yes
Port: 993
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
Password: Your iCloud password
SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:
Server name: smtp.mail.me.com

SMTP Authentication Required: Yes

Note: If you receive errors using SSL, try using TLS instead.
Your signature says you have 10.6.8 - is this correct? If you migrated from MobileMe using this your mail settings won't be correct and you will need to follow this procedure to re-enter them:

Apps from old icloud account won't work with new apple id-Help

I restored a number of ipads from an icloud backup, to include both bookmarks and Ipad apps to my team
I then logged out of both the itunes and icloud accounts associated with these apps, and gave the ipads out to team members.
They each made their own Apple ids to the personalise their accounts.
However now some of them are having the problem that the original apps we installed on the first account don't work.
Is this likely this will be a problem for them all? or is it a just a case of those affected having to do a reinstall.

Open Finder, press Option key, select Go > Library, open Preferences and delete com.apple.imessage.bag.plist and com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist

Installed iMessage beta, cant log on, iCloud now won't log on either.

The subject tells the tale. iCloud was working fine on my MacPro running 10.7.3. Yesterday I installed iMessage beta. Once I rebooted I tried iMessage but could not log in. I went to System Preferences to check the settings for iCloud and saw I was logged out. Trying to log in resulted in the dreaded "This Apple ID is valid but is not an iCloud account.".
I removed iMessage beta, but nothing changed. I checked the forums and deleted the networkconfiguration.plist file and rebooted. No change.
Sigh.
Any ideas on how to get iCloud and hopefully iMessage working?

There are two issues here.
1) Messages beta after the Install and restart will ask for an Apple ID.
It does not have to be an iCloud one.
2) On the iCloud front can you log in on the web site rather than via the Mac itself in System Preferences > Mail, Contacts and Calendars ?
Notes.
On both the iOS 5 devices and the Mac the relevant apps are called "Messages"
They Send iMessages (to iPhones, iPads, certain Touches and Messages Beta using either the Phone Number or Apple ID).
Messages beta on the Mac can also do everything that iChat can do (at iChat 6)
