ICloud Address Book iMac Address Book?

Why does my iCloud Address Book have 80 contacts while my iMac Address Book has 182? There's no obvious pattern in the dropped entries. Seems like iCloud just dropped a random bunch of cards.
Any ideas?

Sometimes it's just the simple things. Went into System Preferences > iCloud, unchecked contacts, re-checked contacts. My iMac, my Air, & my iCloud now have the same contacts again.
Thanks for the reminder.  : )
Take care.

  • My iMac address book is different from the iCloud address book. Why

My iCloud address book and the addresses on my iPhones and iPads and a second are different from the address book on my iMac.  My computer seems complete, the others are missing addresses which appear in my iMac addresses.  How can I get the iCloud addresses to synch with my iMac address book?

First check that all your settings are correct, that contact syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the contacts you are adding are added to your 'iCloud' group and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud group (you can do this by checking in groups), non iCloud contacts will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your contacts are in the iCloud group, you might try unchecking contact syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling contact syncing.

  • ICloud / Address book / Calendar

    Hi
I tried to change my iCloud email address as it was based on an obsolete email address that I no longer use. I think I got the new iCloud address set up, but I have now lost all data in my calendar and address book on my iMac. My iPad calendar and contact book seem ok. Anyone got any idea what I need to do to restore this data ?
I got an email from Apple to say that needed to unlock my old iCloud address, as it was temporarily locked. As I wanted this deleted forever I ignored the email. Have I made a mistake doing this ?

Solved it myself. What I did:
    1) I have four Lion OS and two iOS devices.
    2) I kept one computer with the complete address book I wanted to start with but disconnecting it from iCloud's Contact sync via Apple Menu > System Preferences > iCloud uncheck Contact Sync
    3) Logged into iCloud.com and deleted all the contacts and groups manually ( many keyboard shortcuts worked )
    4) On the main computer, using textedit, I replaced semicolons I was using to delimit items in the notes field with backslashes.
    5) Once I confirmed all the other computers and devices had no entries in Address Book, on the main computer I turned back on iCloud Contact syncing. It worked. Correct count of entries and no more breaking notes at the semicolons!
    6) Immediately all the other iCloud computers and devices updated to the correct notes! Finally.

  • How do I overwrite iCloud address book with local mac one?

When I first got 10.7, I had turned on Google sync in address book. Every person with a prefix or suffix on their name ended up with lots of extra cards (where the suffix became the last name, etc). After migrating my MobileMe to iCloud, I cleaned these out in my local address book app. They are still showing up in my iCloud account and iPhone, however.
How do I either reset the iCloud address book or force the sync from my desktop to overwrite the iCloud service's contents?
    Cheers
    J

Pull up your iCloud account on the Internet... log in... and then delete all of your contacts from Contacts.  Then turn on your iCloud sync on your computer (or iPhone)... it will ask you if you want to 'merge' your contacts... say 'yes'... and viola, your contacts from your computer have been merged with you contacts from iCloud (which was empty)... so now your iCloud Contacts should reflect exactly what was on your computer (or iPhone).

  • Replace icloud address book with Mac address book?

I just created my icloud account on my Mac- I already had it set up on my iphone.  When I did this, it pulled my address book from my icloud but my address book On My Mac is most up to date.  How can I replace my icloud address book with my Mac address book on my mac?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Go to users and groups and choose only your On My Mac Contacts to display.
Ensure that nothing is typed in the search field.
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Drag the list of contacts to your desktop.
Delete the contacts from Address Book (using your delete key).
Now choose only your iCloud Contacts to display
Ensure that nothing is typed in the search field.
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Delete the contacts from Address Book (using your delete key).
Make sure your iCloud account is your default account (preferences > general).
Select All iCloud contacts from users and groups.
Drag the file you previously dragged to your desktop back onto Address Book.
You might want to back up all your contacts before you begin.
Select All contacts in users and groups
Click to select the first contact and shift-click the last to select them all.
Drag the list of contacts to your desktop.

  • Is it possible to download iOS  5 from one iMac and not get them totally wiped of apps and stuff. We have an iPad each and a communal email address and an iCloud address each. One iPad now is totally screwed up.

Is it possible to download iOS  5 from one iMac on two ipads and not get them totally wiped of apps and stuff. We have an iPad each and a communal email address and an iCloud address each. One iPad now is totally screwed up.

    Thank you for your reply.
I am somewhat new to iOS and OS having grown up with DOS and Windows. I am not familiar with IMAP and iCloud and I am not even sure which types of servers my various emails use.
The problem I would anticipate with iCloud is that (I assume) it would limit my access to data (including mail) on the iCloud to when I happen to be logged onto the internet. I also assume(?) that large files (photos etc.) would require some time to download whenever I wish to access them from whichever device I happen to be using (I hope I am wrong about this).
I have kept my devices to 500gb - 1TB for OS and 32gb - 128gb for iOS but since I have pretty slow WiFi (shared with DirecTV Whole Home and Netflix streaming) it is my impression that iCloud might be quite limited due to data transfer times.
Perhaps a factor would be that I have 2 DSL lines and my main DSL line is connected to two wireless routers (to also provide WiFi in a metal building that blocks WiFi and Cellular signals)
I may be totally wrong in my assumptions regarding iCloud. My mail is not so urgent that I need access to it instantly and I could wait until I had internet access or I can get it on my iPhone. My main concern with iCloud would be my data files (Word, Pages, Excel, Numbers etc.).
On the other hand, if I wanted to keep my 10,000 emails that would take up a lot of iCloud memory and I don't know how to measure how much storage it would take or how to move Hotmail or even iCloud mail to iCloud.
It may take me some time to figure this out.

  • How to Delete @me and @icloud addresses

How do I delete all content associated with my iCloud account?
I've made two by accident, and now I want to delete the account along with all its information (contacts, calender, email/email address, notes etc. etc...... and the @iCloud.com  and @me.com email addresses I made (Which i dont even use)

    Hi Geoff K,
"An aside; Why does the Apple spell check not recognize iCloud, iPhone, or iMac?"
Amusing observation.  I had not noticed it; I use a browser-native spell check.
As I understand you, you have an AppleID that you use for various Apple services that you wish to change the password for.  In trying to do this, you created another AppleID.  I would recommend ignoring this newly made AppleID and focus on using the first.  There's - as I understand your story - no reason to switch to this new AppleID and it is not possible to transfer your purchases between the old and the new AppleID.  Keep with the old is my advice.
What you want to find out is what the AppleID's username is.  Generally, this is your mail-address.  If you have a mail address that you receive notifications on iTunes purchases or iCloud invitations, that is likely the username you are using.
Go to appleid.apple.com , use 'Manage your AppleID' and login using your username and the 'unsafe' password.  To the left, you'll have 'password and security', you'll be asked for your security questions and be able to change your password after verifying them.
If you have forgotten the answers to your security questions, reset your password at iforgot.apple.com and contact AppleCare Phone Support to reset your security questions.  This is assuming you have not yet set up your two-step verification process.
If you have any questions, please feel free to ask.  Please do not post your email address here.
    Kind regards,

One way would be to e-mail them from yourself to yourself. That would totally avoid the different ID issue.

Help! I have a new iPhone 5s. My husband just lost his 4s, so I want to give him my 4s. We want to use same Apple ID so we both have access to itunes/apps purchases. Want to separate contacts, messages, mail, etc. I cannot change iCloud address on 4s iPhone. Also, when I tried to change iMessage I got a message that if I deleted my id (which seemed to be the only way to get my husband's I'd there), I would not be able to receive iMessages on any device.
Would someone kindly tell me how to set up th 4s for my husband so that we can keep our info separate? It would be most appreciated! Thanks!!

    Hey Fagen!
You will want to see the following article for guidance on achieving the result you wish to achieve:
What to do before selling or giving away your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht5661
I would just follow the instructions from this article to give your unused 4s to your spouse. Since you have already started using your 5s, you will still be receiving iMessages on that phone and will have no need to receive them on a device that has been replaced. Thanks for coming to the Apple Support Communities!
    Cheers,
    Braden

  • HT201342 In Mail, how do I get both my @me and @iCloud addresses to appear in the "From" field?

I have been using my @me e-mail address with iCloud, and I received the e-mail today from Apple which says that I can now use an @icloud e-mail address.  I clicked the provided link and followed the instructions.  Using icloud.com, I'm able to choose which address I'd like to use when composing an e-mail; however, it doesn't appear that I have the same option in Mail app on my Macbook.  While I can receive e-mails to the @icloud address on Mac, if I try to reply, I'm stuck with sending from the @me address.  Any ideas on how to correct this?  I don't want to replace the @me address; I want to make @me and @icloud interchangeable.

In the Mail App  preferences panel under Accounts add the new email address you want separated with a coma. Save the changes.
When you compose a new email you will have the option to select which email you want to use.
    I hope this helps.
