ICloud and ical sharing

For many years my office has used Chronos Systems Group Organizer to share a calendar which can be viewed and annotated by all members. It is no longer supported on all of our machines/systems and I have not yet found anything that will easily replace it - but I am open to suggestions.
I wondered if we could set up an account on iCloud which could be accessed by all staff here. We all have individual iCloud accounts but I'm not sure if we can set up another account in the office name which could then be accessed through a browser using a shared iCloud ID. We don't need the iTunes or email facilities, just the calendar. I realise that the only way to access it would be through Safari etc and would involve logging on every time it is used but if it is possible it does seem to answer our problem
Any suggestions?

Thanks for very prompt reply. I have set up a secondary account on my Lion mac and can see the calendar listed under iCal Calendats - how do I make an entry that is only visible on that calendar?
There are different ways depending on how you use iCal, the simplest way if you aren't going to set this calendar as your default is just to change the calendar setting when you create a new event.
Second, my colleagues are on 10.6.8 (because we have software which requires Rosetta) so can they see the 'Shared' calendar on their macs' iCal or will they have to use Safari?
They will need to use Safari (or whichever browser they use).

  • Problems with iCloud and iCal

I started using iCloud about a month ago...so far it has been quite the headache. I like the concept I put an appointment on one of  my devices and it shows up on the rest (iphone, ipad, iMac). Just recently, when I open iCal on my iMac, all my appointments are gone! I have to then go to System Preferences and recheck the calendar to go to iCloud. And after a bit, then all my appointments reappear. This is getting old. It's defeating the purpose of using iCloud. My question is does anyone know of a glitch that is causing this? I'm about ready to dump iCloud and go back to synching with iTunes. Thank you!

I've now sorted the calendar issue and logged out of iCloud.  Thanks to this link:

    No more iCloud for me...
Would still be interested if anyone else has experienced the mail bug...

  • IPhone 6 downloaded music even when I have iCloud and home sharing off

So I bought my iPhone 6 today. And logged in to the App Store to download a few apps. I later noticed that it had made available to stream and download all my songs that I have in my 5s even though I have iCloud and Homesharing off on both my iPhone 6 and 5s. Why is this?

Homesharing does not transfer media... it simply allows one computer to access the library on another computer.
If you want to move the media from one computer to another, then move it.
Type "move itunes library" into the search bar and you'll find detailed instructions from Apple on how to move the iTunes library.

  • Reminders on iCloud, and iCal on Mac

I'm currently trying to get to grips with iCloud across all my devices, home Macbook (running Mountain Lion) work MacPro (running Lion) and iPhone (iOS6).
My problem is with the duplication of events in iCal. I use Reminders as my to do list and I use the iCloud version as the interface is a lot more usable than the tiny Reminders on iCal. So I create a new Reminder on iCloud, it appears in iCal's Reminders pane, and I'll use this to populate my working week in iCal. Reminders on iCloud pushes to iCal Reminders on the MacPro then I can plan my working weekly schedule, and all this gets pushed to my phone. My only problem is when I drag Reminders from iCal's pane on to the calendar the events keep duplicating. Anyone any idea what I'm doing wrong. I use to work like this in Snow Leopard with no problems

ical on your phone does not go away.  What ever events you put in your icloud.com account will sycn with your iphone and vise versa.it woks best when you add other Apple products that way all your calanderevents will stay in sync reguardless the devise you enter them on.  hope this answered your question.

  • Icloud and ical

Hi, I'm having a problem syncing calendars that I am subscribed to via icloud. My university provides the option to subscribe to the online timetable corresponding to your course (better than importing since the timetable gets updated frequently). I have done that and set the location to "icloud". The timetable appears on my mac in ical but won't sync to my ipad and iphone. It does show up on my ipad and iphone as a checked calendar but the events don't show up. I had this problem before updating to ios 6 and still have it after updating. My other (manual) calendars that are set to the location "icloud" sync perfectly. I can't find a solution for this anywhere and help would me much appreciated.

First check that all your settings are correct, that calendar syncing is checked on all devices (system preferences > iCloud on a mac and settings > iCloud on a iPhone, iPad or iPod).
Make sure the calendars you are using are in your 'iCloud' account and not an 'On My Mac', 'On My Phone' or other non iCloud account (you can do this by clicking/tapping the calendar button in the top left corner of the application ), non iCloud calendars will not sync.
If you are sure that everything is set up correctly and your calendars are in the iCloud account, you might try unchecking calendar syncing in the iCloud settings, restarting your device and then re-enabling calendar syncing settings.

  • Has apple addressed the problems with iCloud and iCal?

I can see there have been lots of complaints about iCal errors in trying to sync on icloud. I'm not finding any solutions to the issues that are clearly affecting a lot of people. Any one know what's going on?

final cut pro 4.5 and final cut express 3 both seem to have the same dropped frames/capture issue once you upgrade to 10.4.9, something to do with spotlight.

Am I missing something? I am trying to create an editable calendar over 10.5 Server. It is enabled on the server. What do I have to do to add users (isn't there a way to make it a default editable cal?). Can I send out an email with a calendar link that is editable?

I have shared my icalendars with family members via icloud and now my calendar on my computer has been stuck saying "Moving calendars to server account" for literally 5 days.  What do I do?

    Hi, Confused As Always CB.
Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
Hopefully I can help resolve this issue for you.  Try removing the preference to sync calendar events in iCloud preferences.  Once this is down enable the preference again and see if this resolves the issue.
Turn iCloud Calendars off and back on:
    Quit Calendar (or iCal).
Choose Apple () menu > System Preferences, then select iCloud.
Deselect the checkbox next to Calendars.
Close System Preferences and wait about a minute.
Open System Preferences and select iCloud.
Replace the checkmark next to Calendars.
    Close System Preferences.
Open Calendar (or iCal) and test to see if the issue is resolved.
Restart your computer. This may sound simple, but it reinitializes your network and application settings and can frequently resolve issues.
If the issue persists, try all remaining steps in the article below.

  • If i have a work ipad with a work email and a shared icloud for all employees, can i set up a second itunes and icloud account with a separate email address on the same ipad for my personal stuff?

i am a teacher and my school has given all of us a ipad to use. it is set up with my school email and a shared itunues and icloud account. they have told us we can use it for anything that can be used for education purposes. i have downloaded books and other items that i have marked up for my use. however if there is ever a problem i cant identify my applications or books if other teachers have downloaded the same apps or books as well as my documents. is there a way to set up a 2nd itunes account and icloud account so that i may use that when backing up anything that would be personalized by me so that i can find what is rightfully mine. they are ok with it but were unsure how to do this, so can anyone help me? thanks

Sorry, you cannot use more than one iTunes account at a time.

  • ICloud Photo Library and Family Sharing

Does anyone know how the iCloud Photo Library and Family Sharing accounts interact?  I'd rather not have to specify what to share with the rest of the family if I don't have to.

Each family member has their own Apple ID, but uses the main one for purchases.  It seems to make sense that each AppleID could have its own Photos library, but I can't find anything in the support area that says this to be the case definitively.  I want each family member to have their own Photos library that syncs between their iPhone and their ID. I hope that's how it works.

  • Family Sharing won't work because I have two separate accounts for iCloud and iTunes

I have two Apple accounts, one that is connected to my iTunes Store purchases, and another for iCloud. I had to do this for reasons related to transitioning from the old MobileMe service to iCloud a few years ago.
So now with Family Sharing, if I use my iTunes account, I can't share calendars or other iCloud type information, and if I use my iCloud account I can't share my music and app purchases.
Is there anything I can do to remedy this? Can I combine everything into a single account somehow?

Under "Setting up Family Sharing" here: https://developer.apple.com/icloud/documentation/family-sharing/ it says:
"You can accept a Family Sharing invitation from any compatible iOS device or Mac where you are signed into iCloud. Or, if the organizer is nearby, they can simply ask you to enter your iCloud Apple ID and password during the setup process. To complete setup, you will also confirm the Apple ID you use for the iTunes, iBooks, and App Stores so you can share your purchases with family members."
This suggests that you can specify a different ID for the iTunes store if you aren't using your iCloud ID for purchasing.

  • HT2513 my iCal calendar that I created with the color green keeps changing to purple.  no matter how many times I change it to green, it turns it back to purple.  Of course this only happens with iCloud and not "from my Mac".  Any ideas?

my iCal calendar that I created with the color green keeps changing to purple.  no matter how many times I change it to green, it turns it back to purple.  Of course this only happens with iCloud and not "from my Mac".  Any ideas on how to correct this?  This seems like a trivial error, but it's super annoying.

I called Apple and they said that they know about this problem.  It's a problem with iCloud which their Engineers know about.  (there was a new iCloud release, hence...)  No ETA for a fix yet.  I asked that this be escalated so Engineering doesn't put it at the bottom of their fix list.  I talked to a Senior Advisor and mentioned to them to have QA check their regression tests as this has happened before to me (the problem just didn't take this long to resolve).  I like to use green too for important stuff, so I've resorted to creating a new calendar using the normal calendar green for events going forward.  They could have picked another color besides green to have this problem with and I wouldn't have been so upset.  ;-)

  • Family Sharing - iCloud and iTunes Accounts

So I have have had an apple ID (just a user name) for an eternity.  That has been the main purchasing vehicle over the years, both in iTunes and more recently, the Mac App store.  But I also have an iCloud account (email address) that primarily has served as my iCloud login but a few times have made purchases.
With Family sharing, I want to be able for everoyne to have access to both accounts, but it doesn't seem possible.  My iCloud account drives the setup of family share, and the account is my legacy user name that has been used for 98% of my purchases.  I have not found a way under family sharing to get both added as Apple sees them as being the same regardless of email I use to add, etc.
    Any thoughts?

Under "Setting up Family Sharing" here: https://developer.apple.com/icloud/documentation/family-sharing/ it says:

  • Can I set up a 2 (or 3) room audio system? I have iphone 3, iphone 4 and ipad 2 and need to know what hardware, if any, I need for this (airport express?, apple TV?) Also, would I use icloud or home sharing?

I need to know what hardware, if any, I need to do this (airport express?, apple TV?)
I simply want to send music from my itunes to 2 different rooms at the same time. Is it possible? I have iphone3, iphone4 and ipad2 if that helps.
Also, would I use icloud or home sharing? Sorry for the noob question, any help is appreciated.
    Thanks!

The answer is not if you use iTunes.
The TC is NOT an iTunes server.. it is not a media device at all. It is a backup location for Time Machine.
You need a computer in the network which stores the iTunes library and you can then play it via the ipad.
A mini with a large USB drive plugged in will work fine.. it doesn't need to be new.. a couple of years old mini will work just as well.
As an extention to this, can we use multiple Airport expresses plugged into mutiple sound systems to simultaneously access different music from the same time capsule?
I am not sure.. there will be network limitations to this.
Look up how to use itunes in a network.

You would do better perhaps posting the question in iTunes section.. if as I guess you are actually using iTunes.
