ICloud and keychains

Hi,
So i was attempting to get my mac and my ipad calendars to sync up but having no such luck when after a lot of research i found it was becuase of my icloud and i needed to verify my apple id password. however when I attempted to do that i get a message saying 'keychain "login" cannot be found to store "168404130"' with 2 options of cancel and reset to defaults. when i clicked reset to defaults the message pops up saying 'are you sure you want to reset your keychain? this will delete all your saved passwords, keys and certificates. you cannot undo this operation' with cancel and reset being the two options. if i press reset then i have to enter my login password and this password will be used to create a new keychain. but i still can't get in to verify my icloud.
help please!!

At some point, you reset your keychain to default in Keychain Access. That caused your login keychain to be renamed.
Back up all data.
In Keychain Access, delete the login keychain from the keychain list. Choose Delete References when prompted, not Delete References & Files.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it, then copy the text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C:
~/Library/Keychains
In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V), and press return. A folder will open. Rename the file "login.keychain" in that folder to something like "login-old.keychain". Rename the file "login-renamed.keychain" to "login.keychain".
Back in Keychain Access, select
File ▹ Add Keychain...
from the menu bar. Add back the file now named "login.keychain". If any of your needed keychain items are missing from it, also add back the file you named "login-old.keychain". I suggest you transfer any needed items from that keychain to the login keychain, then delete it. The transfers are made by drag-and-drop in Keychain Access. You'll need to enter your password for each item transferred.

  • ICloud and keychain problem

My Macbook Pro suddenly has this problem, does anybody know how to solve it? I'm on Yosemite 10.10
My iCloud was suddenly signed out for no reason and when I tried to enter my password again, it keeps saying:
I can't reset to defaults because it said that it will delete all my passwords, logins. And the same kind of messages keep appearing all the time (apparently with the logo of iTunes or Safari or something else next to the lock logo).
I ran Keychain First Aid in the Keychain app and here's the result:
Another weird thing is that I think my Mac or at least my Google Chrome app has been compromised. I was trying to log in to my internet banking from the ANZ website (yes, the real one, I double checked it) but then it kept re-directed me to another scamming website. This doesn't happen with Safari.
I remember that all of this only happened after I was trying to use VLC Streamer to stream tv shows from my Mac to my iPhone. Not sure if it's just a coincidence or not.
Can anybody please tell me what to do and which app is the best for scanning viruses and malware on Mac? Thanks a lot for your help!

    Reset iPad and try again.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • Cant sign into icloud and keychain access crashes on opening

I have recently experienced very frustrating glitches in my iMac's operability (2011 model, 1TB hard disk and recent upgrade to 12GB RAM to overcome very slow running).  The machine runs OSx 10.9.5.  I cannot sign into iCloud on this machine (although my iPan and iPhone both work) and every time I open Keychain access it crashes.  Sorry to post 2 issues in one thread, but I have never experienced these before and wonder if  they are  related?

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.keychainaccess.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.

  • ICloud and Keychain

    Hi,
yesterday my little daughter accidentally reset my iPad and I had to set it up from the factory settings.
The first challenge was to type in my (very sophisticated) iCloud-Password. When done the next was to install 1password and dropbox. These two apps are essential to.
Why these and not the Apple counterparts?
Here are my answers that might come along with one or the other hint to the Apple developers.
    Dropbox:
I am working with lots of documents that I like to link to, e.g. when using a note app. However, there is no good way to directly access document stored into the iCloud. I know there is a workaround navigating into the library and then into the folders created by the apps. But this is tricky: I did this once with my pages folder, and when I gained access over the Finder the Pages app didn't find the files anymore. So: Back to Dropbox. As well Dropbox syncs very fast.
    Keychain:
I simply don't understand what it does. Keychain doesn't have a UI that gives me confidence in having at least a bit of control over it. That means when something goes wrong I don't have a possibility to correct it. A couple of times I tried it out and accepted Keychain's proposals when registering to new websites. But when I tried to log into theses sites again Keychain remained quiet – neither offering me the login data nor even showing any sign of life. So: Back to dropbox, where everything works really straightforward.
    One more thing:
I am doing a lot of research utilizing Growly Notes (which ist ugly, but useful) and the Scrapbook plugin in Firefox. These are very good tools. I like the simplicity, the ease when overlooking my stuff and the full text search functionalities. As I heard Microsoft has such thing. Apple, however, doesn't which seems strange to me. It could be an Apple classic simply it's something obvious for many people. Having a carefully crafted app storing websites with a simple click (in Safari, of course) and storing my notes with those links as well as links into the filesystem, possibly with the option of storing all this into the iCloud (users of the Macbook Air with relatively small storage capacity would love it!) would be just perfect!
    Cheers,
    Christoph

Hmm, I think I solved it by making a new keychain. Now I have to type in again my password everywhere, but it seems to be working OK now, including iCloud.

  • ICloud and Keychain Conflict on iMac

When I try to login to iCloud for the first time on my new iMac (I have never had a Mac computer, or an iCloud account), I get "a keychain cannot be found to store..." and then some numbers, and I cannot login.  How can I get iCloud to work?

Try opening the application "Keychain Access" (you can search for it using spotlight, by clicking on the magnifier icon in the top right corner of your screen). In Keychain Access, click File - New Keychain and assign a name.
FYI, since you are new to the Mac: Keychain is an application that stores all your passwords (if you want it to).

  • ICloud and Keychain conflict

I had forgotten my admin password on my iMac so I reset it by using resetpassword in recovery mode. All things went well until I tried to reconnect to iCloud.
When I go to System settings - iCloud I'm asked to enter my Apple-ID password. I enter my password and then a new window pops up "MAC OS-X wants to use the key 'Log in', enter password". But I cannot enter a password, because every letter I type is entered in the previous window! Even when I click with the mouse on the 'keychain'-window, every letter appears in the previous window.
    How can I solve this?

  • Why am i being asked to sign in to iCloud and keychain all of the time.

Lately when i boot up my MBP i am asked to sign into keychain and iCloud. Is this being done by default or do i need to change a setting? I don't really use either of these...as i learn more about Mac maybe i will find a good use for these applications. Any suggestions or ideas out there for me to try? My MBP  13" (late 2012) Model was purchased new through a US Navy Exchange. I am running the latest Yosemite OS X, I am still getting used to the Mac and am enjoying its' features.

  • I just upgraded to Lion. I was trying to set up the iCloud and it asked for my "login" keychain password. I've never been asked for that before. I've tried every password I can think of and nothing works. Is there a way to reset the keychain password?

I just upgraded to Lion. I was trying to set up iCloud and it asked for my "login" keychain password. I've never been asked for the keychain password before. I've tried every password I can think of and nothing works. I'm normally asked for the password to my machine when upgrading software, signing on, etc. but this is different apparently. I tried the same password and it didn't work either. I read a couple of posts and they all want to take me through Applications/Utilities but that requires knowing your password in order to change it. I don't know it. Don't remember ever setting up a keychain password. Does anyone know how to change the keychain password if you don't know the keychain password???

Most of the time your Keychain password is the same as your login password. If you configured your computer to log you in automatically, you may not have used your login password in so long you forgot it.
There is no way to retrieve the "login" Keychain password, but you can reset the Keychain from the Preferences menu: select it in the Keychain Access menu and select "Reset My Default Keychain". This will create a new, empty Keychain but the old one will be saved should you ever remember its password.
The result of this is that you will have to supply passwords for everything that requires it, since without your Keychain they will no longer automatically fill themselves. However, once you supply them and store them in your new Keychain, they will be remembered.

  • I CANNOT change my phone number to an sms capable number to set-up keychain.. I have tried everything. My mobile is stuck set to @icloud and my mac to stuck set to @me and there aren't any options for changing anything. Any help appreciated.

I CANNOT change my phone number setting to an sms capable number to set-up keychain.. I have tried everything. I am on a Mac OSX, Mavericks upgrade and an iPhone 5. My mobile is set to @icloud and my mac is stuck set on @me and there aren't any options for changing either my phone number, account, details or anything. I simply want to set-up keychain and receive an sms to my mobile and not to my sms non-compatible home phone number. Any help sooo appreciated.

On your Mac, Sign Out of iCloud, then Sign In with the ID you want to use.

  • Cannot access to any site with ssl connection and fail to open safari and keychain, unless restart computer and login in with Guest account.

when Update to 10.7.2 ,I cannot access to any site with ssl connection and fail to open safari and keychain, unless restart computer and login in with Guest account.
    OS:10.7.2
    Macbook Pro 2010-mid 13inch

I also have the same problem, however if I use Firefox or Opera sites with ssl connection work fine. Still, I can't use Google Chrome (ssl), Safari (ssl), the Mac app store (generally), or the iTunes store (generally). Both the iTunes store, Safari and the app store won't respond, and Chrome displays this error: (net::ERR_TIMED_OUT). The problem persists regardless of what network I'm using. Also, when trying to access the keychain or iCloud, the process will not start (will hang). I didn't have these problems at all before updating to 10.7.2.
Sometimes rebooting helps, and sometimes not. If the problem disappears by rebooting, then it only lasts a few minutes before it reappears. It is very frustrating, especially since there doesn't seem to be any obvious or consistent way of which to fix it.
    I'm also using a Macbook Pro 13-inch mid 2010.

  • How can I ignore iCloud and Lion and live to tell it

From what I have read about Lion, I just do not like it. I am more than happy with Snow Leopard, with my calendar on BusyCal and my Mail on my Mac.
But I am getting more and more the impression that I am being pushed toward upgrading to Lion since, within six months or so, syncing preferences, mail and calendars via MobileMe will not be possible anymore.
But I just do not want my docs and pics and whatever in some cloud. I am perfectly happy with them having them here on my iMac and MacBook. (And I most certainly do not want to share anything via Google Docs or Google Calendars!)
So, please tell me: can I just stay with Snow Leopard and still be happy, checking my mail and my calendar in my iPhone?

You can migrate to iCloud from MobileMe provided your iOS devices are iOS5. You won't be able to use iCloud directly in Snow Leopard: this is the situation when you've set up an iCloud account -
Your email, calendars, contacts and bookmarks, and 'Find my iPhone' will be migrated to iCloud.
Your iDisk, together with website hosting and Gallery, will continue to work as before until next June.
Syncing of Dashboard Widgets, Dock Items and Keychains between Macs, and Mail Accounts, Mail Rules, System Preferences, Signatures & Smart Mailboxes between Macs & iOS devices, will cease altogether.
You will be able to access email, calendar and contacts on the iCloud website at http://icloud.com provided your browser is reasonably up-to-date.
You will not be able to sync contacts or bookmarks from a pre-Lion Mac.
You will be able to enter the server settings for email manually in the Mail application and access your email.
You will not be able to sync your calendars directly.
Some people have been able to set up calendar syncing by using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point. BusyCal is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
There appears to be no method of syncing contacts (though Address Book on a Mac can be synced with Google or Yahoo address books - I don't know how reliable this is).

10.6.8 cannot access iCloud's facilities - you can set Mail up manually and there is a hack which some people have used to sync calendars (see below) - you cannot sync any other type of data.

  • How do I disable iCloud's Keychain?

I have an iPhone 5S running iOS 8.1.2. When I go into my Settings> iCloud, the Keychain option reads "pending". When I go into the Keychain settings, I see that can disable the Keychain but once I go back into iCloud's settings, the Keychain still reads "pending" and the feature is still enabled.
I don't know how to disable the feature. I have an iPad that has "disabled" marked on the Keychain so I don't know what is preventing my phone's Keychain from disabling. Honestly though, the only thing I care about is getting rid of the popups that plague my phone.

I Had the same issue... 1 Mac, 2 iPhones, and one of two iPads were fine. The newest iPad was doing the "pending" thing as you describe  with those goofy pop ups every day or so. The solution was to tell the iPad when asked that I forgot keychain code, and then create a new one following the prompts. I even used the same code- go figure? Hope it helps.. Drove me nuts!

  • HT204053 i use one apple id for icloud and one for itunes  and now it wont let me since i reset my phone now  i up graded to iphone 4s still the same problem

please help me fix this problem I have one id  for icloud and one for itunes that i share with my husband

If the old ID is an earlier version of your current ID, temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone, even though it prompts you for the password for your old account ID. Then save any photo stream photos that you wish to keep to your camera roll.  When finished go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iPhone when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your current iCloud ID and password.

  • HT201269 I am trying to save memory on my iPhone 4S/ ios6. Can I back up all photos to icloud and the external hard disk I normally use for photos? If I then delete photos from the iPhone do the get deleted on iCloud?

I am trying to save memory on my iPhone 4S/ ios6.
    1) Can I back up all photos to icloud and the external hard disk I normally use for photos? If I then delete photos from the iPhone do the get deleted on iCloud?
    2) Can I back up the newsstand to iCloud and save memory on the iPhone?
    3) Can I back up the bookshelf to icloud and save memory on the iPhone?

    1. What format is the external drive? It sounds like it's ina format that Macs can't write to. Is it a NAS or NTFS?
    2. Easiest thing: just move your iPhoto Library to the external
Make sure the drive is formatted Mac OS Extended (Journaled)
    1. Quit iPhoto
    2. Copy the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to the External Disk.
    3. Hold down the option (or alt) key while launching iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Choose Library' and navigate to the new location. From that point on this will be the default location of your library.
    4. Test the library and when you're sure all is well, trash the one on your internal HD to free up space.
