ICloud and Mail rules

I have set up my computer (2.66 GHz iMac core 2 duo, OSX 10.9.4) with two users to separate my fishing club activities from the rest of my life.  I would like to use different MAIL RULES to sort mail on each of the user accounts.  I would also like to sync some of my activities such as Calendar, Contacts, Reminders, Notes between the accounts.  If I link both accounts over iCloud, the MAIL RULES are synced period!!  Unselecting mail for either or both accounts using the iCloud preference has no effect.  To prevent syncing RULES requires signing one or the other account out of iCloud.  This means, of course, that I am unable to sync Calendars, Contacts, etc.  Does anyone know of a work-around for this dilemma?
Thanks in advance.
TomJF

I'm using the same Apple ID for both accounts to allow syncing.
I use QUICKEN to track finances.  The main reasons I set up two users is to separate fishing club finances from my personal finances and to separate documents.  At this point I have decided to combine the two accounts; sort documents; and open separate QUICKEN accounts as needed.  I do think that Apple Mail needs attention to correct inconsistencies such as the one I pointed out.
Thank you for your Comments

  • Wrong password in Vacation notice and  Mail rules in web interface

I have just set up a new Snow Leopard server to try it out. I especially wanted to test the calendarserver and mail and corresponding web interfaces.
I can access the My Page without any problem, but when I try to access the Settings->Vacation Notice and Mail Rules, I am presented a login dialog. When I enter my credentials, it just shakes its head like the password is wrong. I tried with different accounts, and when I used the system admin login I could access those pages, but not for the standard account. What's wrong?

Yes, the problem is the accented caracters !
I had the same problem until I remove the accent in the user information (Workgroup Manager > Users Tab > "user" > Info Tab > Firstname + Lastname).
So it's an encoding error in WPSession python module, and this problem drive the script EmailRules.py around line 162 (wpUser = wpSession.userNamed(username)) to go on the hasLocalEmailErrback def, and so give an error and refuse the authentication, even if we have a local email account.
It's boring that USA developers do not write code that manage well international strings !
It's like this forum : because I have an "é" in my lastname, I was unable to create an account for this forum, until I create a new Apple ID without the "é"
Or like the iPhone Developer certificates at the beginning...

  • I'm having a problem with iCloud and mail.

My account says I've used up my free 5gb. 2.1 gb was in mail. I went into my iCloud account online and deleted all of the email message as I don't use it for my mail. It still shows this as 2.1 gb of used space within mail. I have no idea  how to fix this. Anyone have any ideas?

The right way to set up an iCloud mail account is to sign in via the iCloud preference pane and then check the box marked Mail. Is that what you did? You should not be trying to set it up or change it in the Mail application.
Uhm... set it up?  I have had this iCloud mail account for years and I've been using Mail as the app nearly as long.  This mail account was MobileMe before iCloud and something else before that.  All I did today was update my OS from Snow Leopard to Mt. Lion.
IAC, what I ended up doing was: (1) disable the iCloud account in the accounts list of the Mail app and then (2) set up a new account in the Mail app with all the same values, and (3) delete the old/disabled account.
I don't know what it was unhappy with before that -- everything I set up in the 'new' account was exactly the same as the old one — but it seems to have worked.

  • I am having problems getting into ICloud and Mail etc from System Preferences.  Do I have a virus or malware problem?

A few months ago, I had a problem with my Mail app going offline constantly.  Since then, for no apparent reason, that problem has gone away and another has taken its place.  Now I cannot get into ICloud or Mail, etc. from my System Preferences on my MacBook Pro.  Do I have a virus or malware?  Should I immediately take my notebook in for repair or can I wait a couple of weeks until I return home?

Probably not a virus or malware, as both are relatively rare on Macs.
Probably not a hardware problem that requires "repair".
This is probably a software problem that can be fixed with a little thought and routine maintenance maneuvers and troubleshooting.
Here are some basic troubleshooting and maintenance maneuvers:
    1. restarting your computer
    2. repairing your hard drive When to Run First Aid in Mountain Lion's Disk Utility - For Dummies
    3. repairing permissions About Disk Utility's Repair Disk Permissions feature
    4. starting up in safe mode OS X Mountain Lion: Start up in safe mode
    5. a test user account Isolating an issue by using another user account
If you are not comfortable with this then you could take it in to your local "geniuses" at the Apple store. You could certainly wait a few weeks. Make sure you have a backup of any important documents that you don't want to lose, first.

  • TS2446 blocked icloud and mail 2nd time--how to prevent?

This is the 2nd time this year I have been blocked out of icloud and macmail application.
Both times the symptom was macmail asking over and over and over for the password and not accepting it.
The 1st time was Jan 4 or so, grave consequences: by the time I troubleshot it with an apple-savvy friend, I had lost a full time job interview oppty.
Have now changed password approx 15 times, a password management Nightmare.
I work a lot online, and internationally.
Have had a mac.com address professionally for 10 years or so, have used it for all job correspondence and job search.
All my professional network have it and I really do not want to switch permanently to gmail.
Is there any way to prevent this from happening again?

Thanks for suggestions, but no luck... Moving the Event and Project folders to root stops them from showing in FCP X completely.
    According to the User Guide...
Final Cut Pro X - User Guide
Your Movies folder is the default location for all project and Event files:/Users/username /Movies/
    http://manuals.info.apple.com/en_US/final_cut_pro_x_user_guide.pdf
So they are in the right place, but not updating at start up.
    Any other thoughts?
btw.. smylink is a Symbolic link from my users folder on the System disk (which runs from SSD) to my Movies folder which is on another  HDD

  • Question about iCloud and mail

I totally do not understand all of this iCloud stuff.  I hope you can help me.  I have a .mac account that I know can be pushed to the Cloud.   In the Mail Program I have two other accounts with different providers.  One is an IMAP and the other a POP account that I understand can be changed to an IMAP account.  I get e-mail from all three accounts in Mail.  Is the Cloud only for .mac or me accounts?  Will my other accounts be in the Cloud as well?  If not, will I still be able to read my e-mails in Mail on both my computer and iPad?  Also if I switch over to iCloud, does every device have to be synced the same way?  I have a Nano and iPad.  I do not want my music synced to my iPad.  I only want it synced to my Nano.  Will I never be able to sync with iTunes once I switch to the Cloud?

I understand about the POP account.  Will the .mac account and my other IMAP account show up separately as two different accounts in iCloud as they do in Mail or will they be merged together?  Will I even be using Mail to view my e-mail?  I never attached my two other accounts to my .mac account.  They remained separate accounts and were viewed separately in Mail.  I have had my .mac account for several years and know that I will lose it if I do not convert over to iCloud by the end of June.  I mainly used it for Mail and the iDisk.  I have an iPad, Nano and iMac.  If I can still sync my IPad and Nano via iTunes, is it worth all of the trouble people are having with iCloud to convert over to it?   I do not use ICal and have a very small address book.  Will I be okay with what little I have or would it just be better to let go of my .mac account and not merge over to iCloud at all or will i eventually be forced to do it?  I also have another iMac that is running Snow Leopard.  I am sorry I am so ignorant about this.  I just don't understand it all.

  • Applescript and mail rules:

I'm trying to do something with rules that I can't easily do in preferences.
I want to create a rule that does does the following:
If from equals [email protected] OR  [email protected]
    AND
message contains  "lawn"  or "Lawn" or "LAWN" or "XYZ" or "xyz" or "ABC"
    move message to mailbox M
Or, do I just have to create a ton of rules?
Also, assuming the answer to the above is true, I guess I could write a single apple script that did all my mail processing.
I've searched and searched for such a script. Can anyone point me to something?
I'm an applescript beginer.  I just ordered a book, but not here until next week.
    Thanks!
    Dave

do it this way with an applescript (attach this to a rule action that checks all messages - will probably need some tweaking):
    set senderList to {"[email protected]", "[email protected]"}
    set keywordList to {"lawn", "Lawn", "LAWN", "XYZ", "xyz", "ABC"}
    using terms from application "Mail"
on perform mail action with messages theMessages for rule theRule
                        tell application "Mail"
                                  repeat with thisMessage in theMessages
if sender of thisMessage is in senderList then
                                                      repeat with thisKey in keywordList
if thisKey is in content of thisMessage then
                                                                          move thisMessage to mailbox "M"
                                                                end if
                                                      end repeat
                                            end if
                                  end repeat
                        end tell
end perform mail action with messages

  • ICloud and mail

When I load up mail or the iCloud pane in System preferences, I get the popup asking for my password
stating that the program (sys pref or mail) wants to make changes to my system and is asking for an
administrator password. When I load mail, I end up getting this 4 times.
I tried logging my os x account out of iCloud thru system preferences and logging back in but I still
get the same problem. (I do not get prompted when loading mail if I a don't have the system logged into
    my iCloud account).

You might try asking this in the iCloud forum, too.

  • ICloud and Mail on iMac

When I got my iMac (first one) I set up my *@me.com email account so that I could check my emails on all my iDevices and iMac.
I have noticed that if I use the Mail program on the iMac - as opposed to logging into iCloud directly - when I delete an email from Trash, and close Mail (hitting the red X as opposed to "quiting", the next time I open Mail, the "deleted" items from Trash will be back and have to be "deleted" again.
Any reason why? This does not seem to happen if I clear the Trash from either my iPhone, iPad or when logging in directly to iCloud from the iMac.
    Thanks,
    Steve

So, I've noticed that in Entourage, the messages don't 'disappear'. They are moved to the normal Inbox and deleted from the new Inbox that was created when I set up the new IMAP account. If I set preferences to only *mark* the messages rather than 'delete' them, then they stay in the IMAP Inbox with red 'x' marks next to them, and they show up in the normal Inbox, marked as 'read'.
However, once that happens, and I don't know why it happens, then the messages are deleted from the iPad and iPhone immediately, and they're not moved anywhere else; just deleted from those devices.
Again, the iPad won't let me view webmail, but at least I know what's happening in Entourage.

  • Icloud and mail - not connecting

My mail is failing to connect to the icloud server. Just happened. This happens about every  6 - 9 months for no reason. Worked fine earlier today. Any suggestions?

and this is great, if I go to iCloud support it won't let me contact them without a HARDWARE serial number! For a mail account connection error!

  • Regular expressions or "wild cards" and Mail rules

I'm working on building several rules to deal with various emails types i get during the average day at work. some of them are automatically generated by our servers, others are from customers etc. Some of the messages generated by our servers have a blank subject line. Mail won't let me build a rule with a blank subject line (or anything blank for that matter)...is there a way around this?
Also, does mail allow for use of regular expressions? I really don't know anything about regular expressions, but was hoping to learn enough to accomplish some more complex rules if it's possible. If not, i won't bother trying to tackle such an obscure language
    Thanks in advance!

No, there is no provision for this in Mail's rules.
However, Mail's Junk Filter is based on a much more sophisticated method (Latent Semantic Analysis) that typically is more effective at detecting this sort of thing, in part because methods based on Regular Expressions usually have an unacceptably high false positive rate if they are made general enough to catch all the possible misspellings.

  • ICloud and mail on Mountain Lion

Hi, I can't set up iCloud on my Mountain Lion. Everything turns on (calendar, address book etc etc) except for Mail. It says to try later since it can't turn it on now. I'm doing it simply from the preference. How can I set up the mail?

it finally worked, after few days.

  • Notifications and Mail Rules

I am experiencing some bizarre troubles with Mail. Specifically, I have a complex set of rules in Mail; some of them, automatically move an email from the inbox folder to another folder I created if a specific name or subject is met. Now, when an email that match a rule arrives it is automatically moved according to the rule but it is not notified. An email is notified only if it is not subjected to a rule. Is there a way to get notified whenever an email arrives?

    madHelloKitty wrote:
just cutting/pasting the symbol into the rule doesn't work. Ideas?
The symbol may be representing something else in the underlying text.  You could try View > Message > Raw Source to see what that is.

  • I upgraded my iMac with mountain lion. I can't now use iCloud and Mail. I have the error message : impossible to activate Mail wait a moment and try another time (This is translation from French).

I've made the operation several rtimes withoiut any success

From the Mail menu bar, select
    Window ▹ Connection Doctor
Look for the unwanted SMTP (outgoing mail) account in the window that opens. Double-click it. Another window will open, showing a list of all the outgoing mail accounts. The unwanted one will be selected. Click the minus-sign button to delete it, then click OK.
If there's more than one unwanted account, repeat.
