ICloud and OS 10.6.8-- only 2 options?

I have an older MacBook that I have kept updated up to OS 10.6.8, but it is now so doggy that I have started using other computers to do much of what I used to do on this one and do not want to update it again. I also use MobileMe extensively.
As I understand it, as of June 2012, I will have two options;
1. stop using MobileMe/iCloud because it won't work with my MacBook
2. Buy a new Computer.
Is this correct, or am I missing some third options that lets me make the move to iCloud and still keep using my MacBook with OS 10.6.8 as my primary computer for a while longer?

If you can migrate your Mobileme account to iCloud using another computer with Lion on it, then:
Your iDisk, website hosting and Gallery will remain exactly as they are up to June 30 2012.
Your calendars, email, bookmarks and contacts will move to iCloud.
Your old Mac will be able to access email if your enter the server settings manually in Mail.
You will not be able to sync your bookmarks or contacts with it.
You may be able to sync iCal with it using the method detailed here - this is an unsupported hack and may not be reliable, and may stop working at some future point.
You can sync with iCloud using BusyCal, which is an iCal-like calendar application with extra facilities: it can sync with the iCloud Calendar while running on Leopard, Snow Leopard or Lion.
You can sync your Address Book with Yahoo or Google contacts: I don't know how reliable this is.

Just a note about the difference between these two things:
* "export" and "import" use an ancient HTML document format that all browsers can understand. When you import bookmarks, Firefox may place them into an Imported Bookmarks folder, or into Unsorted Bookmarks. This does not displace existing bookmarks, and Firefox does not automatically remove duplicates.
* "backup" and "restore" use a more comprehensive JSON data file, which contains extra information about your bookmarks (such as tags) not contained in the traditional export file. HOWEVER, a restore completely replaces all existing bookmarks, so the restore feature cannot be used to merge in a set of additional bookmarks.

Why does Safari (and other OS programs) provide only one option for launching an application?

I greatly appreciate the improvements that came with the Mavericks OS, but either I cannot figure it out, or there is more that Apple can improve. Firefox is my default browser that opens when I click a link. (I do this because I can set Firefox to private browsing, which decreases cookies, history, etc.) When I click on a link in Mail that I want to open in Safari, however, e.g., a link for GotoMeeting, I have only two options: (1) open with Firefox or (2) open in reader. It would be superb if there was at least one additional option to open the link in Safari, where it nicely integrates with Calendar and allows me to keep that event in history. It would be even better if I had more options to open other programs.
Am I missing something? Is this already an option that I have not yet discovered?

Instead of removing the music from the cloud or the iTunes library why not shuffle your music using a Smart Playlist which excludes the holiday music, or tracks that are not checked. For example, use this very simple Smart Playlist:

Obvious question, but have you got 'Find My iPhone' set on both devices? Settings>iCloud>Find My iPhone.

I have two iCloud accounts .mac and .me. My contacts are duplicated 2 and 3 times. I only want one account.

Somehow, I ended up with two iCloud accounts. A .mac and a .me. I only need one but can not make the .me the primeray one (it tells me that the email is already in use). They told me that I have to erase my contacts on the iPhone and iPad and then manually erase the duplicates. Is there another way to do it? How can I set up iCloud so that I only have one account?

You can't delete an iCloud account. You can, however, sign out of that account and just stop using it. Then sign in to your second account on all devices account.

I called Apple and they said that they know about this problem. It's a problem with iCloud which their Engineers know about. (there was a new iCloud release, hence...) No ETA for a fix yet. I asked that this be escalated so Engineering doesn't put it at the bottom of their fix list. I talked to a Senior Advisor and mentioned to them to have QA check their regression tests as this has happened before to me (the problem just didn't take this long to resolve). I like to use green too for important stuff, so I've resorted to creating a new calendar using the normal calendar green for events going forward. They could have picked another color besides green to have this problem with and I wouldn't have been so upset. ;-)

On the iPhone tap Settings > iCloud
Switch Contacts off then back on then reset the device.

I'll get 20-30 minutes of work done and then a sync or something comes on, the color wheel of death shows up, and my productivity is shot. I have to shut the computer down the hard way! when it comes back up, it is still either frozen or slow. I've checked in at the genius bar and all they say is that there have been some problems that Apple is trying to fix. It effects Mail, Contacts, Safari, Calendar....yeah, pretty much everything. My iPhone and iPad are not effected as much so I end up doing what I can with them. I've seen the blogs out there and understand that many have the same problem. I have been waiting to read about a fix but I have found nothing! Any ideas?

Not enough free space on the startup disk can slow the system down.
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
For startup issues... open System Preferences > Users & Groups - Login Items. Delete any apps listed there then restart your mac.
And disable the Lion "resume" feature.
Open System Preferences > General
Deselect: Restore windows when quitting and re-opening apps
And Spotlight may be indexing... you can turn that off > Turning Off Spotlight | Mac Tricks And Tips

I've seen the opposite issue. My wife recieved an email with jpg attachments. She couldn't see or print them on her iPhone 4S but they showed up fine in iCloud or in the mail app. I had her forward the email to herself and then they showed up. I assume there is an issue with how Apple is processing the attachments and resending causes them to get reformatted in a way that makes them easier to handle.
So yeah. Seems like some bugs. Hope Apple fixes them soon.

My iPhone 4 will now sync with iTunes both in its USB-connected mini dock and over Wi-Fi. It's unfortunate (negligent programming on the part of Apple?) that the upgrade to iTunes 11 did not remove all of those files as part of the upgrade process.

I am having the same issue....Same address for years - same as USPS - I tried 5 times (3 macs and 2 iPhones) and now i have 5 CHARGES for 1.00 each on my credit card. I took the credit card info off so they don't charge me anymore. How can they charge me yet still not allow me to download free updates and say I have an invalid address? I'm sure I will spend weeks or months trying to get a credit out of these incompetent idiots.

ICloud and iOS 8: How to store photos on the cloud only?

I Thought iCloud would make me save space on my devices by keeping my photos on the cloud. But it mirrors all photos on the cloud into my device (I know iOS can store lower resolutions of the photos, but they take a lot of your device's space anyway)! You should be able to pick which photos you want to keep localy (so you can access them even with no internet) and wich photos you want to keep only on the cloud. If you want to delete photos on your device to open some space... be careful, they will also be deleted from the cloud. There is no way to erase it only locally.
I bought the 200G plan so I can access ALL my photo library using the photos app in iOS 8.
But how am I supposed to upload my entire photo library (100G of photos) to iCloud and access them using Apple's Photos app?
If I get 100G of photos into iCloud, how my devices will access the photos if all my devices have only 32g and everything should be mirrored?
is there a way to keep photos only on the cloud and not on all your devices?
I'm confused.

Wait for iCloud Photo Library to be introduced later this year. It should allow you to keep full resolution photos and videos in iCloud and access them from your devices without having to have them stored on your devices. It will use your iCloud storage plan.
