ICloud and Pin Code (Mac Mini)

Hi there,
I have some problem. I have Mac Mini 2010. Now my Mac Mini is blocked...(((
Was so -
I blocked my Mac Mini himself, when i used Icloud - (Find My Iphone-Select My Mac Mini and Remote Lock)
After it - my Mac Mini is rebooted and now is not work - "Please enter Pin code"
But i can't remember my pin code.
How i can recover my Pin Code?
Please help me!
Hope to hear from you soon.
Regards,
Grigory

When you blocked your mini via Find My iPhone, the only way to get it up again is to enter the code.  If you don't have the code, then reisntall OSX as a new machine and later restore from your Time Machine backup.  Without the backup, you can only start from scratch with a fresh install of OSX.  You'll lose all your personal files though.

  • Why can't I get Back To My Mac to work in both directions between my 2011 Mac Book Air and my 2012 Mac Mini?

Why can't I get Back To My Mac to work in both directions between my 2011 Mac Book Air and my 2012 Mac Mini? The network uses a Time Capsule. Everything works when connecting from the Mini to the Air, but the reverse is not the case, none of the Mini's drives are visible, and the screen sharing option is not available. I've tried the measures already suggested in online articles, everything seems to be configured correctly using my iCloud account. I'm at a loss, any suggestions would be appreciated.

I've now managed to get the service running in both directions, but not in the way I had anticipated. I had to create a second account on the Mac Book Air, this also has administrator privilages, everything works fine when connecting from this acccount. However, this is not the way I would expect to work, none of my documents, applications and settings would be available, unless I laboriously duplicated them to the new account.
Also, I've yet to get the service running from outside my home network.

  • Can i connect my iMac to a mac mini (wirelessly) and control the mac mini display on my TV?

Can i connect my iMac to a mac mini (wirelessly) and control the mac mini display on my TV?

Look up "screen sharing" in help
You can control your mini (which I am assuming you are hooking to your TV) complete from your iMac.
After you set up screen sharing, you can go to the finder, under the "go" menu choose "Connect to server" and then browse.  Choose your mac mini's name, and look for the "Screen Sharing" button.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Sharing.
    Select the Screen Sharing checkbox.
To specify who can share your screen, select one of the following:
    All users:
Select this if you want to allow any user with a user account on your computer to share your screen.
    Only these users:
Select this if you want to restrict screen sharing to specific users.Click Add at the bottom of the Users list and select a user from Users & Groups (accounts you have set up in Users & Groups preferences), Network Users (users on your network), or your Address Book. Or click New Person and enter a name and password to create a sharing account. Then select that user from the list, and then click Select.
Click Computer Settings and set the following options:
Anyone may request permission to control screen:
Select this to allow anyone on your network to request to share your screen.
VNC viewers may control screen with password:
Select this and enter a password that VNC viewer applications can enter in order to control your screen. It’s recommended that you not set a password if you only share this computer’s screen using the built-in screen sharing viewer in Mac OS X.

  • How do I  undo an update to pages 2.1 on an iPad 2? I can no longer open a document previously saved, even when I try to open it in the iCloud and on my Mac.

How do I  undo an update to pages 2.1 on an iPad 2? I can no longer open a document previously saved, even when I try to open it in the iCloud and on my Mac.

With IOS Pages v2.0 and v2.1, Apple introduced a new document format that is incompatible with prior Pages versions on IOS or OS X Pages ’09. Opening older documents with these recent versions of Pages will permanently prevent the document from opening in earlier versions of Pages on IOS or OS X.
Nice of Apple to warn people.
There is no undo of an iTunes application update, short of forcing iTunes to restore IOS v6 back on that iPad 2. Even if you did that, you won't find the IOS Pages v1.7.2 in the iTunes store now.
IOS Pages v2+ will allow you to export content in Word .docx format. You do this by first tapping the box with an up-arrow in it (next to the left-most +). A menu will slide up — choose Send a Copy. Select a document icon. Pick Mail, and then Word. Your Pages v2.1 document will now be converted to Word .docx, and attached to an email body. Fill in the to address and send.

  • I downloaded and installed the: Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 on my mac mini running 10.8.1, was I correct in doing this ?

I downloaded and installed the: Mac mini EFI Firmware Update 1.6 on my mac mini running 10.8.1, was I correct in doing this ?
I didn't see this update come up in "Software Update"
If I was not meant to install this update, would it cause ANY damage at all to my mac ( this is my second as I dropped the first )
If I were to re-install ML would this fix any errors that this may have caused ?
The bottom of the page I link to says:
Boot ROM or SMC Version Information: MM51.0077.10
But when I click on "About this Mac" it says:
    Boot ROM Version:          MM51.0077.B10
      SMC Version (system):          1.75f0
What does the additional "B" mean?
My mac mini is the Mid 2011 Model.
I am sorry if I am sounding super paranoid about this, but I don't want to have caused any permanent damage.

    Hello,
It's somewhere between almost impossible & impossible to install the wrong EFI Update with all the checks it does!
Mac mini (Mid 2011) with Intel graphics
    Macmini5,1
    MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)
Mac mini (Mid 2011) with Radeon graphics
    Macmini5,2
    MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)
    Mac mini Server (Mid 2011)
    Macmini5,3
    MM51.0077.B10 (EFI 1.6)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1237
Not sure what the B means.
If I were to re-install ML would this fix any errors that this may have caused ?
No, Firmware is unaffected by any OS change or re-install.

At this moment, that's correct. The OS X license included with a Mac can only be used with that Mac. However, in the case the OP has purchased OS X Mountain Lion in the past, this may change

When I work with a drive to boot many computers, I use the newest model computer I will be booting, and set the system up on that, run all the Apple updates. Normally I will have no issue booting any older computer with the same drive. Unless of course those older computers do not support the operating system on that drive.
If you want to test if the drive will boot the mac mini. Put your MacBook Pro into target mode. Connect the two computers together. And on the Mac Mini, go into system preferences and then under start up disk and see if the target disk mode computer's drive shows up there. Seelct that drive and restart. See if it boots ok. A bit easier then taking the drives out and moving things around.

  • Front Row - Mac Mini - and PowerBook G4, Mac-Mini Multi Media centre.

I will be purchasing a HDTV is the near future and would like to buy a Mac Mini to complement it. ( then sell my DVD player )
    The big question are:
-Can I ( using Front Row ) stream AVI data (film) from my PB G4 to my Mac-Mini and watch the content on my new HDTV. ( over AirPort )
-Do I need to buy a new PB that also has Front Row ? ( I hope not )
-What type of video data can I stream ? (iTunes and iPhoto I already know about)
-What about HD DVD's when they come out. Is the drive in the Mac-Mini HD DVD compatible ?( I don't think so )
Please - If you have any other relevant points or question's about the Mac-Mini usage as a multi media centre, Post them here.
    15" PB G4 SD 1.5 GHz   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

I just tried a AVI film and it work's with QT,
although a mpg film did not.
Now that I think about it, I tried a mpg plug-in for
    QT and was disappointed.
Has anyone had any success with such a plug-in ?
    Another Question:
Must then this AVI data reside in iTunes for
Front-Row to "see" it ? How does this work ?
I guess that when a Blue-Ray drive is added to Apple
products that a HD DVD will not play, or will it play
it but only burn Blue-Ray ?
When shopping for a HDTV I asked about the difference
in Blue-Ray and HD and he told me that the TV will
    play both versions.
I hope that the drive will also play both, although
the way I know Apple it will be Blue-Ray only. (
    at-least in the beginning ) Remember DVD-R
i would not worry about the blu-ray - HD-DVD thing right now. too much still in the air. once they realize consumers are too un-techie to figure it out and just continue to buy DVD's their will be a standard plus their is already other formats being developed. then if you talking about movies and such my guess is downloaded content is the way apple will go with an itunes movie store but thats my guess.
but yes, HDTV's will play either, its the player. I have a 61" samsung 720p DLP and my new mac mini looks good on it at 1280x720. front row is great. I also watched a ton of HD trailers from quicktime's website and they were amazing.
and from what i have seen from front row it only shows content that is in itunes or iphoto not random folders but i could be wrong, still palying around with it.

use the eMac's tiger upgrade to upgrade my mini to Tiger? I know the other versions of tiger upgrades are specific to the hardware, i.e. powerbook, ibook, imac, ect. But seems to me eMac and the G4 mini are very similar. Possible?

How can I boot and run my Mac Mini on my 12" PwrBk display using firewire?

    bwhit:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No reason why you should not be able to do it using Firewire Target Disk Mode. Here's what you do:
    1. With both computers shut down connect both via firewire.
    2. Startup the Mini and hold down "T" key immediately after chime.
    3. Startup the PB and immediately after chime hold down Option key.
    4. Select second HDD icon on the screen and click on the right pointing arrow.
    5. Computer will boot from Mini's HDD.
Be sure to shut down PB completely before shutting down Mini.
Please do post back with an update or with further questions or comments.

  • AE and Airtunes or Mac Mini?

I’ve been “this close” to buying an Airport Express just to be able to listen to music. I’ve been using my iPod connected directly to my stereo via its dock, but I may have killed the battery of its predecessor by leaving it connected too long.
I have an Airport Extreme as my PB’s base station and everything is working fine. With the relatively inexpensive refurbished Airport Express I thought I’d be pretty content.
Then I got on this forum and I’ve been reading about many who’ve had dropout problems with their AEs. The more I looked at it, the minuses appeared to overcome the pluses:
I’d have to leave my PB on whenever I wanted music. This probably should mean no music while editing movies or burning DVDs. I’d have audio dropouts. Somehow it seemed like a poorer choice than I’d first expected.
Then I saw refurbished Mac Minis and thought that might be more useful. I could use the MM, my current Bluetooth keyboard, buy a Bluetooth mouse, and connect the Mac Mini to my TV just when I needed to set up a playlist in iTunes. It all seemed the perfect solution for listening to music without messing with an additional piece of network hardware (other than the MM).
However, now the dollars are adding up -- and I still have to go to the MM and turn on the TV just to listen to some music. This solution that started out at around $100 is now five or six times higher putting this new toy in another category entirely.
So, my two questions: Let’s say I want to kid myself into believing that spending all this on hardware is reasonable, is there some way to control iTunes on the Mac Mini from my PB?
On the other hand, is this entire decision-making process flawed and I should just continue using my iPod until it dies (It’s a 3G non-click wheel anyway) or go with the Airport Express – downside notwithstanding?

Keep in mind that the problems you see discussed in this forum represent only a very small fraction of the total number of users of the Airport Express - the majority of Airport Express owners have absolutely no problems with use of this device. People always post here when they have problems - rarely will people post a message to simply indicate everything is working great.
Yes you can remote control iTunes on the Mac mini (and in fact the entire Mac mini) by running a "Virtual Network Computing" (VNC) server on the Mac mini, and a VNC client on the Powerbook. Usage of VNC is a frequently asked question in many of the OS X Tiger discussion forums - see for example Dirk Everse, "Using VCP and a headless Mini", 04:40am Oct 15, 2005 CDT

  • Do I need an iCloud id on my mac mini server?

I have a home network and have purchased a Mac Mini Server.  It will have a Lacie 2big hard drive attached to it in raid1 for files and time machine back-ups for 3 macbook pro's and 1 iMac.   It will also handle the home printer and itunes & iphoto.
It is asking at the set-up stage for and apple id or to create a new one.  Is it a must to do or is it better to not signup for icloud on the server?

Your get out of jail free back-up comment made complete sense to me so I have decided to add one.
The intended use for the sever is host a two disk external hard drive in Raid 1 so to have a first round of back-up.  One of these wil be swapped out with a spare from time to time and kept at work for a 2nd back-up just in case (already lost some files and learnt the hard way).  The external hard drive will be home to:
    - Time Machine back-up for 3 Macbook Pro's for the kids school laptops and one Imac
    - Seperate secure files for each family member (need to keep some work files private and secure) so will need logon to access the persoanl directories
    - Itunes and movie server for all to use
    - Family Photo files
I could use my Iclould adress or create a new one just for the server.  Not certain is my icloud and email would confuse things or may be easier?
Also can the individuals computer logon credentials be the ones that allows them access to their secure files ont thehard drive?
    Thanks

  • Why does exchange server work for MSN Mail on iPad and not on Mac Mini?

My MSN Mail works great on my iPad and iPhone but will not work on my Mac Mini? I input the same server address but it will not connect. I've even tried m.hotmail.com, etc. but not joy.
    Any ideas please?

At the moment the only way to do this between a Mac and iPad with Outlook/Hotmail would be if you used webmail on the Mac. Anything you do in webmail would be shown on the iPad and vice versa.
It used to be possible with the free GMail to use IMAP on the Mac and ActiveSync on the iPhone/iPad which would have been the sort of solution you are looking for. Now with the free GMail you have to use IMAP on the iPhone/iPad as well (ActiveSync is no longer available in the free GMail). IMAP would sync the changes still.
Unfortunately as IMAP is not available for Outlook.com/Hotmail you cannot do the samething as a workaround.
You could get a free GMail account and have it collect all your Hotmail messages, then you could use IMAP on both.

  • What's wrong with my trackpad? It was working fine, then I installed Lion 10.8.1 and now the mac mini won't see it, when I press the on button, a light comes on after a brief pause, stays on for a second or so, and then goes off, still no trackpad..

Ok, so if you haven't worked it out, this is my first post. My problem is all in the title, but once more won't hurt..
I have a bluetooth trackpad which has been attached to my mac mini for a few months now, with only the occasional connection lost, connection found saga that everyone seems to go through. Earlier today, I used the trackpad to upgrade to OSX 10.8.1 nd when the computer rebooted, no trackpad could be found. I've put fresh batteries in, I've tried rebooting the mac mini, I've checked sys preferences and am currently using an old usb keyboard which is v flimsy so forgive any typos please.
The light comes on about a second after the on button is pressed, (whether the button is held down or not) and then goes off after a second, still no trackpad is found..
    Why?!!!!

No, not paired to anything else, fresh out the box connected to the mac mini I bought at the same time, never been paired with anything else.
I think it's a hardware issue. As I don't seem to be able to get it to turn off.
